00:00CBBC would like to state that no braineese or insects were harmed in the making of this program,
00:04and that none of the training you're about to see be attempted unless under expert supervision.
00:10Eight braineese, one challenge.
00:12To use complex mass of 100 billion cells we call Brain for chance to win Brain Jitsu Black Brain Belt.
00:20This is Brain Jitsu.
00:28Born in Lancashire, trained in Japan, with mind as sharp as samurai sword.
00:34He is Brain Master. He is the Sensei.
00:38Konnichiwa.
00:39And welcome to Brain Jitsu.
00:43Mental training specially designed to boost brain power and focus.
00:48My trainees, or braineese, have been following a basic program of training in the comfort of their own home.
00:54A brain-boosting routine of exercise, sleep, and enough fruit and veg to stock a greengrocer's.
01:03I'll tell you, I promise you, I'm going to win that black belt if it's the last thing I do.
01:08Yeah, I really want that black belt. I don't want any of the others to kind of get it.
01:13I'm confident and I'm going to win.
01:15Come on!
01:15Now my braineese must put their training into practice.
01:19By testing a part of their brain we use every day.
01:22Level 1. You're no fault!
01:26Take a look at this fish tank.
01:28How many white fish are there?
01:32Did you get two?
01:35Congratulations!
01:36You've just used your occipital lobes.
01:39This area, the same part of our brain, allows us to recognise and separate images from each other.
01:46The seven braineese who use their occipital lobes the best will be allowed to enter my brain jitsu dojo, where
01:53their training will continue.
01:55The one who fails, will be left outside.
01:58Oh! Feel the burn.
02:01Enter the dojo!
02:05Braineese must answer four questions by counting the different team kits on the board in front of them.
02:10Get them right and they'll be left with a four-digit code, which they must then use to unlock a
02:15piece of brain and secure their place in the dojo.
02:19But with only seven pieces of brain and eight braineese, one of either Mustafa, Nehal, Kuzil, Karabjeet, Amandeep, Anna, Jessica
02:30and Alfie, will be left outside uneliminated.
02:34The atmosphere in the noodle bar is more strained than a sumo wrestler's waistband, as the four questions are revealed.
02:41How many players have blue shorts?
02:48How many players have red shorts?
02:57How many players have striped tops?
03:09How many players have non-matching shorts and top?
03:15The answer our braineese are looking for is 3977.
03:21Anna is first to reach a piece of brain, with three boys following close behind, but haven't they got the
03:27code right?
03:30Soon, there's one braineese to each piece of brain, but Anna is already back at the noodle bar, having another
03:35go.
03:37The key to this task is to stay calm and really focus on getting the answer right.
03:41Don't rush and don't be put off by the others around you.
03:45Jessica's cracked it already, and Anna's second try at the lock has proved fruitful.
03:50Don't forget, the code our braineese are looking for is 3977, as there are three players with blue shorts, nine
03:58players with red shorts, seven players with striped tops, and seven players with non-matching tops and shorts.
04:06A man deep success means that three out of four of the girls have already finished.
04:11The boys seem to be struggling.
04:13When Parabjip cracks the code, there's smiles all round. They know they've beaten the boys.
04:19Fuzil and Nehal take the fifth and sixth places in the dojo, leaving just Alfie and Mustafa to battle it
04:27out for that final yellow piece of brain.
04:30Mustapha's got an answer, and he's so eager to try it, he's queuing up behind Alfie.
04:39Mustapha gets his goal, but it's the wrong code, and he heads back to the bar to try again.
04:45The code again, 3977.
04:52Battered tempura. Alfie's cracked it, and Mustapha can't believe it.
04:56Alfie's in, and he's out.
05:00So, as Sevin entered the dojo for a chance to survive six more grueling levels of brain training,
05:06for Mustapha, the dream of the black brain belt has ended before it even started.
05:11It was the last question that I couldn't get it right.
05:13I think Fuzil might get the black belt because he's focused and can do Tosk really fast.
05:20So, with six levels to go, only Jessica, Anna, Amandeep, Farabjit, Fuzil, Nehal, and Alfie have achieved the first of
05:30their coloured brain belts.
05:32The feeling when I won was just amazing. I really want that black belt.
05:38I'm watching out for Jessica because she was the first person to go through to the next round.
05:44Whee!
05:45Rain Titu!
05:48In this next level of training, things are going to get really hard.
05:52Level two.
05:54Orange vault.
05:56We do things every day without even thinking about it, like kicking a football.
06:02But you try kicking it with the putt.
06:04Whoa!
06:05You don't normally use.
06:06Not easy, is it?
06:10If you manage to do that, you're using part of your brain that deals with problem solving.
06:15The frontal lobes.
06:16And that's what level two is all about.
06:20Taking something you normally do without thinking and doing it differently.
06:24Work it!
06:25To prepare them for using their frontal lobes in the next challenge, my brainees are going to need some training.
06:32Room of Mental Nourishment.
06:36The Room of Mental Nourishment is where our young hopefuls will train their brains to help them to progress to
06:41the next levels of the dojo.
06:43The more seriously they take their training, the better chance they'll have.
06:46And in level two, that challenge is all about getting their brains to think in a new way.
06:52Brain training.
06:53Take it in turns to call out the action on your cards.
06:56Everyone has to do the opposite.
06:58Both arms down.
07:01This training makes our brainees work their frontal lobes,
07:04as they have to really think about something they would normally do without thinking at all.
07:09Oh, you're out!
07:11That's Jessica out.
07:12Touch nose with left hand.
07:15And Alfie.
07:18Touch left shoulder.
07:20Oh, you're out!
07:22Yay!
07:22And Nehal makes three.
07:24Looks sad.
07:26Woohoo!
07:26Yeah!
07:27Woohoo!
07:28Pastifuzeel's got the moves.
07:29Time for a training tip.
07:32Don't rush.
07:33Pause for two seconds to think before you react.
07:36Turn head right.
07:38If you want to work your frontal lobes at home,
07:40why not try this exercise with your mates or your brothers and sisters?
07:44It's great fun and will help improve your all-round focus.
07:47Look, Alfie.
07:48Woohoo!
07:49Woohoo!
07:52Check left eye.
07:54Parabjik, you cheat your switched eyes.
07:58Touch mouth with right hand.
08:01Oh, you two!
08:03Oh, well, she's out now along with Alfie again.
08:06And soon, feisty Fuseel is the last man standing.
08:10Hang on.
08:11I seem to be reigning champion.
08:13I think the person next going to be eliminated is...
08:20Alfie.
08:22I'm quite 50-50.
08:24I'm nervous and confident.
08:25I think that was a really good tip because I always think before I act.
08:30Oh, Fuseel thinks he's king at training and he's predicted Alfie will go out.
08:36Lucky Parabjik said she'd use the tip in the next challenge, but will it help her through?
08:41Time to find out as our seven brainies now put their training to the test.
08:47Guardian of the Dojo and Task Adjudicator the Sheehan will now demonstrate the level two challenge.
08:53Big ball, Karadnatt.
08:56Each brainie must pick two balls.
08:59By calling out pair of coordinates from grid.
09:03For example, B2 and D3.
09:06Aim is to find two balls of same colour, matching not word on each ball, but colour that word is
09:13written in.
09:14So, in this case, they will have to remember that this ball was red and this one blue.
09:19If brainies uncover match, they will progress to next level.
09:24Last brainy to find pair will be eliminated.
09:26My brainy tip for this task is to focus the mind on just one letter and not the whole word.
09:33What's important here is not the word, but the colour that it's written in.
09:40Here are those colours now.
09:433, 2, 1, go on the gong.
09:47First to pick a pair is the winner of the first task, Jessica.
09:54A2, D4.
09:58No pair.
09:59Now Anna's turn.
10:00B, 3.
10:02Brainy's must ignore the word and remember only the colour the word is written in.
10:06That's orange.
10:07C, 2.
10:10And that's green.
10:12C, 2.
10:16Amandeep's picked a green too.
10:18She did pretty well in the training, but will she use it to get the pair?
10:22D4.
10:26So, Amandeep's the first through to level 3.
10:28She used her training well to see the green and not pink.
10:31Well done.
10:32Now, Parabjit.
10:34D3.
10:38B2.
10:41Parabjit has uncovered another orange.
10:43Can Feisty Fuzil use his training to find Anna's pick from a few moves ago?
10:48A4.
10:50No, he hasn't even gone for it.
10:52C1.
10:56D2.
10:59Nehal has uncovered another black.
11:01Surely this will be a pair.
11:03B4.
11:06No, he can't have been paying attention to Fuzil's goal.
11:10B2.
11:13An orange for Alfie.
11:15He's struggled in the training.
11:16Can he focus on finding Anna's orange ball?
11:19D.
11:212.
11:24He's not made it either.
11:26This lot really seem to have forgotten their training.
11:29A few more moves.
11:30He's a missed orange pair for Jessica and a missed blue pair for Anna.
11:33A3.
11:35Can Parabjit use the training tip to uncover the other yellow?
11:39B4.
11:42A3.
11:43Oh dear, she's only seen the word yellow.
11:45No pair.
11:47Feisty Fuzil, Nehal and Anna both get pairs, leaving Parabjit, Alfie and Jessica to battle it out for the last
11:54two orange brain belts.
11:55Here are the remaining colours.
12:00A4.
12:01Can Parabjit find a pair this time?
12:04A3.
12:06Finally she gets it.
12:08Now just Alfie and Jessica left.
12:10Alfie only scraped through in the first challenge, but Jessica was first to enter the door jaw.
12:15This will be interesting.
12:17B1.
12:21OC.
12:27That's it.
12:28Red means go for Alfie as he just makes it yet again.
12:32Lucky lad.
12:34Jessica was first to enter the door jaw.
12:36Now Alfie's in and she's out.
12:40Walk of eternal regret.
12:44To get through that round I should have done a bit more brain training on my memory.
12:49I think Anna would have a good chance of getting the black belt because she got through on the first
12:55round and on the second round she's done really well.
12:58So with five levels to go, only Anna, Amandeep, Parabjit, Fuzil, Nehal and Alfie are through.
13:07Well, it's the second one.
13:08Yes.
13:09I'm just really relieved that I'm definitely in the third round.
13:13I've been nearly out two times in a row.
13:15I'm so relieved that I'm not out this time.
13:19Brain T2.
13:23Brainy, not so brainy.
13:27Who's the clever clogs and whose brain needs a lot more training?
13:311903.
13:321903.
13:32Two American brothers, Orville and Wilbur, have a go at flying.
13:35Impressed?
13:36You should be.
13:37Inspired by a toy helicopter made from a few bits of wood and a rubber band, the brothers only went
13:42and invented the first passenger plane.
13:44Without the Wright brothers, you would never have had this, this or this.
13:49Thanks, Wright brothers.
13:50I'm off to Sonny's fame.
13:52Now, take a look at these chaps.
13:53Every year, they earl themselves off Bognar Pier.
13:56The rules are simple.
13:57Fly the furthest and win a cash prize.
14:00Come on, son.
14:01You can do it.
14:02Oh, dear.
14:02Back to the drawing board with you, mate.
14:05Brainy, the Wright brothers.
14:07Not so brainy.
14:08Bird brain, bird men of Bognar.
14:12Brain Jitsu.
14:16Pressure in Brain Jitsu Dojo Rising.
14:18Now, just six young hopeful remain to compete under what's the lie of Sheehan.
14:24Nehal, clone under radar so far.
14:27Could be one to watch.
14:29Amandeep.
14:30My biggest rival is Faisal because he's really competitive.
14:35Lucky Parabjip.
14:37Came close to elimination in last round.
14:39Can she improve?
14:41Lucky Alfie.
14:42My sister was good at karate.
14:44She maybe even got a black belt.
14:46Hope I get one.
14:48Ana, strong contender for black belt.
14:50And Fuseel.
14:52I'm so relieved.
14:53That game was a nerve cracker.
14:55I was just torn up everywhere.
14:57Challenge is about to get even tougher.
15:00Only two Brady will make two final tests.
15:02Table of supreme focus.
15:04Where?
15:05Must move ball with power of mind.
15:07A chance to win Brain Jitsu Black Brain Belt.
15:10It's time for...
15:12Level three.
15:13Winner.
15:15Now, we all like to chat.
15:17But did you know that using words to communicate is one of the main reasons why our brains have grown
15:23so incredibly powerful?
15:25And that having a conversation exercises both halves of the brain.
15:30Now, if all that's doing, you're heading.
15:32Allow me to explain.
15:34Think of it like air traffic control.
15:36While a pilot has to focus on landing just one plane, an air traffic controller is responsible for landing all
15:44sorts of planes.
15:45It's the same with the brain.
15:47There's the left half, which deals with the details.
15:50And there's the right half, which looks at the overall picture.
15:53This next level of training strengthens my brainies' focus by working one half of their brain under pressure.
16:01Hey, pump it up!
16:03The Room of Mental Nourishment.
16:07It's our second visit to the Room of Mental Nourishment.
16:11Brainies have a choice as to whether they take part or not.
16:14But any extra training they do will help them with the challenges to come.
16:18For level three, it's communication training.
16:22Brain training.
16:24Get into two groups.
16:25One brainy describes how the blocks fit together.
16:28The other groups put them together.
16:31OK, can you see a big blue block?
16:35So, our brainy's are in two groups.
16:38One group should use the right side of their brains to describe clearly how the blocks fit together.
16:44The other team should use the left side of their brains to concentrate on interpreting those instructions to make the
16:50same shape.
16:55How can you even hear each other, brainy's?
17:03The key to this training is to talk one at a time and listen to each other.
17:07But Foozeel and Nehal seem to be doing a lot of shouting over each other, instead of listening.
17:14Parabjit and Amandeep are joining in the shouting too.
17:25One person who's been quiet is Alfie.
17:30Brainies must work as one team.
17:32After all, they might be on the other side of the fence in the next challenge.
17:36Put the blue one on top of that.
17:39Look, there's one on top of each other.
17:41The next to each other.
17:42Anna finally gets a word in, but the shouting ensues.
17:45Training tip time.
17:47Use short, clear instructions.
17:49Imagine yourself hearing them.
17:52Let's start again, shall we?
17:59The training tip seems to have worked for Anna, because Parabjit and Amandeep understand her instructions straight away.
18:05You put the blue cube, it'll be on top of the red cube as well.
18:10Oh yes, the opposites.
18:11Yes, yes, opposites.
18:13Lucky Alfie finally finds his role in this room.
18:17Holding the finished block and amazingly, in spite of all the shouting, it's spot on.
18:22It was hard to work with them, because they get them talking over each other.
18:25And when you think, like, oh, I've got a really good idea, but you don't kind of want to butt
18:29in as well.
18:30I think you're going to be eliminated, because you didn't participate at all.
18:34I think she's right.
18:36So, Fuseel and Nehal talked a lot and very loud in the training,
18:40and Parabjit and Amandeep did a lot of talking too, even though they were on the listening team.
18:46Anna found it hard to get a word in, and Alfie sat back and let the girls take over.
18:51But who will be making the walk of eternal regret?
18:54Time to find out, as our six brainies put their communication training to the test.
19:01Balloon pop, number drop.
19:04This level tests so well our brainies can communicate.
19:07So, our six need to be in teams or two.
19:10The chopsticks will decide the pairs.
19:13There's Fuseel and Nehal, who both talked in the training.
19:17Alfie and Amandeep, who both listened in the training.
19:20And Anna and Parabjit, one of each.
19:24Quickly as possible, teams must burst six balloon, containing number, which go together to form some.
19:30Pairs need to decide who is Guida, who is Poppa.
19:34With Poppa unable to see under helmet, they will be relying on Guida to help them burst balloon.
19:42When all balloon popped, Brainy stop clock by shouting,
19:46Brinjitzu!
19:48Quicker they burst balloon, more time have to pick up number and make some.
19:53Once Brainy are happy with answer, hit gong!
19:57First two team to work out correct answer, get green belts and advance to next level.
20:03One Brainy from losing team will be eliminated.
20:09The key to success here is for the Guida to use the right side of their brain
20:13to follow their teammates' progress and give them clear instructions.
20:18For their partner, it's vital they use the left side of their brain
20:23to focus on these instructions and nothing else.
20:31First to put their communication training to the test are Feisty Fuzil and Nihal.
20:36The boys were both talking over each other in the training.
20:39Can Fuzil learn to listen in order to do well here?
20:44Step forward, two steps.
20:46The right side of Nihal's brain is working well so far.
20:49His instructions are quite specific.
20:53Step forward, two steps.
20:56A bit, just a bit, just a bit.
20:59Bit what?
20:59Oh, but suddenly it's all going wrong because Fuzil seems to be getting frustrated at Nihal's
21:04instructions.
21:04Both Brainy's must stay calm.
21:07Getting frustrated will only confuse you more and slow you up.
21:13They've finished with a time of two minutes and 33 seconds.
21:16Now, Anna and Parabjit.
21:18Forward.
21:20Anna talked and Parabjit listened in the training and they've gone for the same combo here.
21:24Back a bit.
21:25Pop.
21:26Forward.
21:26Anna did well in the training and here her instructions are clear, calm and quick.
21:33Right.
21:34Pop.
21:36Forward.
21:37Her Abjit is using the listening left side of her brain well.
21:40Forward.
21:40She talked a lot in the training but here she's staying focused on Anna's instructions.
21:45Pop.
21:46Well done.
21:47Joined it, Sue.
21:48With one minute and nine seconds, it's a great run for the girls and they're happy with
21:52their teamwork.
21:55Okay, move a little bit forward.
21:58A man deep did a lot of talking in the training when she should have been listening.
22:01So, the talking side of her brain should be warmed up.
22:04This time with a tiny, tiny bit back.
22:06Pop.
22:08Alfie didn't really participate in the training and he's struggling to follow his partner's
22:13instructions.
22:13A bit forward.
22:15Okay, and now pop but really hard.
22:18This pair's teamwork is about as coordinated as a dancing sumo with two left feet.
22:23A bit more.
22:23It's a tiny bit.
22:24Okay, to the right.
22:26A bit back.
22:27And pop.
22:29A little bit back.
22:32Pop.
22:34Pop.
22:36Brain Jitsu.
22:36They're finally finished but with a time of three minutes, 23 seconds, they'll be the
22:41last to collect their numbers.
22:43The She-Han sends the all-girl team off first as they pop their balloons in the fastest
22:48time.
22:50Here's what our brainies are looking for.
22:52Can you work out the answer in your head?
22:57All the teams are back, but who'll be last to finish?
23:04Feisty Fazil is so excited to be finished, he's knocked the gong down.
23:07Hannah and Parabjit and Alfie and Amandeep gonged at the same time.
23:12All three teams have got the correct answer.
23:1430 plus 2 equals 32.
23:1632 divided by 2 equals 16.
23:19But Alfie and Amandeep's slower time means they'll have to go face to face in the...
23:24Stare off.
23:27With just one green belt up for grounds, both brainies must use all their powers of focus
23:32to fight the urge to blink.
23:34The first to falter will be eliminated.
23:40That's it!
23:41Amandeep's blinked.
23:42So, Alfie's scraped through yet again.
23:45He's in and Amandeep's out.
23:51Walk of eternal regret.
23:55The thing that went wrong in the balloon pop was that Alfie wasn't actually listening
24:00to what I was saying.
24:02I think two people are going to win the black belt, and that's Anna and Parabjit.
24:09So, with four levels left, it's green brain belts for Anna, Parabjit, Fuzil, Nehal and Alfie.
24:18So relieved.
24:19Third time lucky in a row.
24:22I just scraped through.
24:24People say I've got nine lives just like a cat.
24:30Brain Titu!
24:34Level four.
24:36Blue belt!
24:38This fourth level requires our brainies to master a primitive part of the brain called the amygdala.
24:44The area that responds to threat.
24:51Remember the last time you felt afraid or panicky?
24:54Maybe you were just about to sit an exam.
24:56Well, that feeling was triggered by the old amygdala.
25:00Now, stress can make you lose focus.
25:03Fact.
25:04Which is why my brainies must train to keep their emotions under control.
25:10The room of mental harassment.
25:14We're back in the room of mental nourishment, and it's time for our five green belt holders to focus on
25:19overcoming fear.
25:22Brain training.
25:24Brain training.
25:24Form a circle.
25:25Pass the disgusting drink around the circle, only passing it on when you have said a different word, ending in
25:32the letter D.
25:32After one minute, the brainy holding the drink has to drink it.
25:36The gross drink is actually milk, blue cheese and a dash of black pepper.
25:41Shall I start?
25:42You're on.
25:45Oh, that's a bust in.
25:46Flicked.
25:48Jumped.
25:50Pussy.
25:51Punched.
25:53Focus on the word, Alfred.
25:55Flicked.
25:58Flicked.
26:01Anna's pausing too.
26:03Head.
26:04Mind.
26:06Throne.
26:07Eated.
26:08Eated isn't a word, Alfie.
26:13Jump.
26:14No.
26:15Now, Nahal's at it.
26:17Slank.
26:19But it's Anna who gets gonged and has to drink.
26:23OK.
26:24OK.
26:30Is it nice?
26:31No.
26:34But she looks far from cheesed off about it all.
26:36There's chewy bits of cheese in there as well.
26:39Training tip time.
26:42The tip is concentrate.
26:44Try to blank out the time and fear of the drink to avoid panicking.
26:49If you practice this technique at home, it will allow you to keep your emotions under control,
26:54stop you from panicking, and help you focus better in situations like exams.
26:59Anna will be getting some more chewy cheese if she isn't careful.
27:03Panicked.
27:04Regenerated.
27:05Kicked.
27:06Pulled.
27:08He said pulled.
27:10He said kicked.
27:10If he pulled out, he said pulled.
27:12You said...
27:13No, he said pulled.
27:13He said kicked before.
27:14No.
27:15I never said kicked.
27:15He said kicked.
27:16Listen, guys, we're not having a row here.
27:18Let's just concentrate.
27:20Try to knock other people out, but without having a row.
27:24I'm turned.
27:26Held.
27:27The gong means another minute is up, but Feisty Fuseel seems quite keen on the drink.
27:31It was actually me, because Prabjit actually said her word, so then it should be me.
27:37What was it?
27:44Nice.
27:46Based on that, the person I think that's going to be eliminated is a girl.
27:50Which girl, then, do you think's going to go?
27:52I think it's going to be Prabjit, because Anna drank it, and I thought I was really good,
27:58because I wouldn't have drank it.
28:00So, Nehal thinks Plucky Prabjit will be going out.
28:03Will she prove him wrong?
28:05Anna was fearless about the drinking, and Feisty Fuseel actually wanted to drink it.
28:10Will this help them in the next challenge?
28:12And will Alfie be in the bottom two four times in a row?
28:15It's time to find out, as our five put their brain training to the test in a fear-filled challenge.
28:22Creepy Crawly Word Grab.
28:25This level real test of mind over matter for brainies, and will push them to really overcome their fear.
28:32Underneath the creepy crawlies lie an assortment of letters worth different points.
28:36Brainies have just one minute to plunge hands into tank, and pick out up to seven letters each.
28:42They then have a further minute to make higher-scoring words they can.
28:48To do well, my brainies must block out the signals coming from their amygdala, and ignore the creepy crawlies.
28:56The quicker they combat their fear, the more time they'll have to pick out the high-scoring letters.
29:10Brainies should dig deep, because underneath the pile of worms are an extra five golden letters.
29:15If they manage to use one in their word, they'll double their score.
29:20All our brainies are overriding their amygdala as well. You can't hear a peep out of any of them.
29:27The minute's up. Our brainies now have a further minute to make the higher-scoring word they can from their
29:32letters.
29:38See if you can make a word from the anagram on the screen now.
29:54So, how have our green belt holders fared?
29:58Neat.
30:00Neat, Anna. Five points.
30:03Hit.
30:03You haven't hit the jackpot with five points, Plucky Parabjit, but it might be enough to get you the blue.
30:09Meal.
30:10Fuzil certainly didn't make a meal out of that. A golden letter and ten points.
30:15Weak.
30:16A very strong eleven points for Nehal.
30:20So, Anna and Parabjit both have five points. This could be a tie-break situation. It all hangs on Lucky
30:27Alfie's word.
30:28Pugs.
30:33Well, it seems that Alfie's luck has just run out, because with no points at all, he's out and is
30:39off to make the...
30:40Walk of eternal regret.
30:44I'm feeling happy, because I got this far, but I just got through that run, because I'm not bad at
30:51the creepy callies.
30:52I think Alfie's going to win the black belt, because he's quite confident.
30:57So, with only three levels to go, Anna, Parabjit, Fuzil and Nehal proudly wear their blue brain belts.
31:04The training was really good, because it helped me concentrate on what I really had to do, instead of what
31:12horrible thing was in front of me.
31:14When she put the worms out, I was like, please, worms, is that the best you can do?
31:19Brain Titu!
31:23Brainy? Not so brainy.
31:26Who's the clever clogs, and whose brain needs a lot more training?
31:30Ah, the good old toilet, WC. What would we do without it? Let's not go there.
31:35Most people credit a British plumber called Thomas Crapper with the invention.
31:38But actually, the idea of the toilet was first hatched just over 400 years ago, when a geezer, John Harrington,
31:45installed one in his godmother's house.
31:47Her name? Elizabeth I.
31:48Well, you can't blame a queen for wanting to be ladylike.
31:51Another name for toilet is bog, and for the last 20 years, hundreds of hopefuls have been headed for Wales,
31:57come summertime, with dreams of becoming the world bog snorkelling champion.
32:01Oh, bog off.
32:02Brainy, Sir John Harrington. Not so brainy, bog snorkelers.
32:09Brain Jitsu!
32:12Tension in Brain Jitsu Dojo is mounting.
32:15Now, just four young hopeful remain, to compete under watchful eye of Sheehan.
32:20Lucky Parabjit, who's keeping eye on prize.
32:25Feisty Fouseel.
32:26The next one, who's gonna go, is definitely one of the girls.
32:30I can see fear in their eyes.
32:32Anna, could be Dark Horse in Dojo.
32:35And no-nonsense Nehal.
32:38I find it really easy, because I'm really good at English, and I'm a boy, and I'm not really scared.
32:45Only two brainy will make final test.
32:47Table of Supreme Focus.
32:49Where?
32:50Must move ball with power of mind.
32:52Brain Jitsu Black Brain Belt is within the grass.
32:56It's time for...
32:57Level 5.
32:58Red Bolt!
33:01Now, if you're learning to climb trees like Tarzan, then you might be interested to know that your new hobby
33:06is doing wonders for the old grey matter.
33:10Exercising both the thinking part of the brain, the cerebrum, and the doing part, the cerebellum.
33:16You see, doing new things increases the flow of blood into your head, which keeps your brain cells topped up
33:23with the oxygen they need to perform at their best.
33:26So, in Level 5, my brainy's are gonna be challenged to learn new skills.
33:31Now, you can speed up how quickly the brain takes in new stuff.
33:36And this is what our brainy's are gonna train for now.
33:40Room of Mental Nourishment.
33:44It's our brainy's fourth visit to the room of mental nourishment.
33:47And for this brain training exercise, they're gonna be really working their brains by learning something new.
33:55Brain training.
33:56Flick the bean bag from the top of your head to the back of your neck.
34:00Come on, let's do this.
34:02Our brainy's are stretching the thinking part of their brain by concentrating on their new skill.
34:08And they're also flexing the doing part of their brain by performing their physical action.
34:14I think I'm the best, no doubt about it.
34:17Feisty Fusil is bursting with confidence as usual.
34:20But to boost the other brainy's, here's a training tip.
34:24Approach this positively.
34:26Laugh out loud for 30 seconds.
34:28Did you know that a fit of the giggles increases your heart rate,
34:32sending extra oxygen into your brain, and helping it work at full capacity?
34:37I'll have a jelly bean.
34:41Fusil is all laughed out.
34:42But have the giggles helped her brainy's bean bag flicking technique?
34:47It doesn't seem to have helped Anna.
34:50And plucky per object's no good neither.
34:53No nonsense nay, Hal is using an interesting method.
34:56You're not doing it properly because you're rolling it down your head.
34:58Look, look, look, look!
35:00And now, what is Fusil doing?
35:02He looks like a dog trying to find his way out of a neck cone.
35:06Staying positive really can help when you're learning a new skill.
35:09If you get frustrated, it'll make you focus on what you're getting wrong and not on what you're getting right.
35:14You should be positive because, like, if you're all negative, you'll be moping about the place.
35:19You'll be like, oh, I can't do this, I can't do this.
35:21I think Fusil is right because, like, positivity, since the first task, he's been positive about anything.
35:29The first thing that I probably thought was the best was me.
35:31Nah, I disagree with that totally.
35:33It was me.
35:34So, feisty Fusil and no-nonsense nay, Hal both thought they were the best.
35:39Will that confidence see them through the next challenge?
35:42Plucky Parabjit thought the tip was helpful, but will she use it?
35:48All the time will tell, as our four now put their new skills training to the test.
35:55Crazy Brain Buzz Wire
35:58To win Red Belt, Brainy must guide hoop-on-helmet from one end of wire to other.
36:04It's race against clock, but Brainy must take care.
36:07If they touch wire, not only do they collect five-second penalty, they also receive Brain Buzz from Brad-baiting
36:15Helmet.
36:16Most funny.
36:17Brainy with slowest time will be eliminated.
36:20The tip for my Brainy's in this next task is to remain calm and think positive thoughts.
36:28Giving in to frustration will only lessen their focus and slow them up.
36:34So, will our Brainy's remember their training and stay mentally positive, or will they let the pressure get to them?
36:41First up is Anna.
36:44It's a good start.
36:45No buzzes so far, but she's going to have to pick up the pace.
36:54A few buzzes and she's getting frustrated.
36:56She must control her emotions to control her body.
37:00Anna's still going slower than a broken sushi conveyor belt.
37:04You're racing against the clock, remember?
37:08She's finished with only a few buzzes, but was it fast enough to get her the red?
37:13Now, Plucky Parabjeet.
37:16Ooh, it's a bad start.
37:18Lots of buzzes there, but she's staying calm.
37:23Parabjeet is now taking the buzz wire pretty fast.
37:26She knows she's racing against the clock.
37:34Lots of buzzes at the end, but she's stayed calm.
37:37Let's hope it's worked for her.
37:40Now Fuseel.
37:42Feisty Fuseel is naturally confident and thought he was the best in the training.
37:49He's certainly got speed on his side and he's showing more control than a dieting sumo at a cake factory.
37:58He's finished and it was a good run.
38:00Finally, Nehal.
38:02No-nonsense Nehal was also very confident in the training.
38:07Can he use his positivity to master the mental and physical control he needs?
38:20He's staying calm and focused and it's paying off because he's racing through the challenge and not many buzzes so
38:26far.
38:31It's a strong finish, but who's focus has cost them the red belt?
38:35Time for the results.
38:39Anna, 2 minutes and 50 seconds with 9 penalties.
38:42That's 3 minutes and 35 in total.
38:46Parabjeet.
38:471 minute 17 with a rather large 16 penalties.
38:512.37 in total.
38:55Fuseel, 1 minute 20 with 5 penalties.
38:58So a total of 1.45.
39:00Anna's place in the dojo all hangs on Nehal's score.
39:041 minute and 31 with 4 penalties.
39:08So with 1.51 in total, Nehal's in and Anna's out.
39:22Walk of eternal regret.
39:26I'm never disappointed.
39:28I did find the training useful, but unfortunately I didn't get a quick enough time.
39:32I'm not really sure who's going to get their black belt because they're all really strong at the moment.
39:38So with only two levels left, Parabjeet, Fuseel and Nehal stand proud in red.
39:45I'm feeling really jolly and happy.
39:48I'm all emotional basically.
39:50I'm going to cry.
39:51So aesthetic, I can just jump off.
39:53Actually, I will.
39:58Brain T2.
40:02Level 6.
40:04On board.
40:06In level 6, my braineys will draw on all they've learnt so far in their toughest test of focus yet.
40:13That's because it's this level which will decide which two of my remaining braineys will go on to battle it
40:20out.
40:21For the black belt.
40:23Now, imagine you're performing a magic trick.
40:27You've got all the secret little moves to remember and there's an audience watching you.
40:31It's remembering stuff like this under pressure that level 6 is all about.
40:37It centres around three areas of the brain, the occipital lobes, the memory part, the temporal lobes, and the movement
40:48part, the cerebellum.
40:50To the max.
40:52Room of mental nourishment.
40:56With only three braineys remaining, this penultimate brain training challenge is all about improving your memory.
41:02I can't see a thing.
41:04How many numbers are these?
41:06Two.
41:07Yeah, that was actually right.
41:09I can't see them.
41:12Fine.
41:13Close your eyes.
41:15Um.
41:17Hmm, maybe she was peeking after all.
41:20London Reading, Oxford, Nottingham, L-R-O-N, London Reading, Oxford, Nottingham, Bondsley, Thornton.
41:35No-nonsense, Nihal's technique seems to be working.
41:38Not a bad effort, Nihal.
41:39I don't know.
41:41Bristol, Cambridge, Cambridge, Middlesbrough.
41:44After PJ's cheating efforts, Nihal's not taking any chances.
41:49Wait, hold on a second.
41:50How many fingers am I holding?
41:52106.
41:54You people need trust.
41:55You can never trust anybody around me.
41:57Wait, my nose is itchy.
41:58Especially him.
42:00Oi.
42:00Come on, training tip time.
42:03Tip.
42:05You should learn from this.
42:06Split the tasks.
42:08Memorise the train line each.
42:10Because you're closer to X, you're in the middle, and I take Bryson.
42:13Let's get on with it.
42:14So, I already know of it, though.
42:17I already know of it, though, so that's easier.
42:20Oh, boys, stop arguing and start memorising.
42:23Memory tests like this are a great way of training your brain.
42:27But don't try and memorise too much, or you'll end up forgetting it all.
42:31London Reading, Oxford, Nottingham, Bondsley,
42:34Nottingham, Bondsley, Cardiff, Stafford, and Edinburgh.
42:38Nope.
42:40Alright, I'll give up.
42:41My turn.
42:42Exeter, Taunton, Cambridge, Leicester, Manchester.
42:48Um, Warcoster, Preston, and Newcastle, is it?
42:52Back.
42:53Back.
42:53Back line, correct?
42:54Oh, yes.
42:563Bs, Brighton, Bristol, uh, Barnsley.
43:00Nope.
43:02Um, first was wrong, not 3Bs, it's 2B.
43:06There's Stafford.
43:07Nope.
43:07That's all the way at the end, though.
43:08We're talking about, you have to go.
43:09Yeah, he turned it in the other way as well.
43:14I think the boys argued and spent a lot of time on that, whereas basically we could have
43:20been getting on with our work.
43:21But I did get all of them right.
43:24He did memorise it quite well, so credit to him.
43:26So, the tip really seemed to help the boys, especially Feisty Fouseel, who got all the
43:31stations correct.
43:32PJ seemed to struggle with the training, but it's probably hard to focus when all you can
43:37hear is boys arguing.
43:38But who'll come out on top of the Dizzy Dash wheel?
43:41It's time to find out.
43:46Super Memory Dizzy Dash.
43:49Each brainy is spin round on Dizzy Wheel, total of 10 times.
43:53The task is to use all power of focus to memorise five images in front of them.
44:00Then, race against clock to cross-balancing beam and collect same five images from 10 hanging
44:07above them.
44:10Then, must arrange pictures in order of weight, starting with lightest.
44:16When brainy happy with selection, hit gong to soft clock.
44:23My tip for the brainy's is to keep focused on the main objective, and use their training
44:29to link the five images together.
44:33So, our final three brave the wheel to compete for their brown brain belt, and a chance to
44:38triumph over the table of supreme focus.
44:40It's time to spin.
44:43Will their memory training help our brainy's ignore the effects of the wheel and memorise
44:47the images?
44:48The order they are looking for is at the bottom of the screen.
44:53Plucky PJ is up first.
44:55PJ struggled a bit in the training, but she seems to be really going for it here.
45:01She looks determined to beat the boys.
45:05This really is the ultimate test of distraction for her brainy's, because not only are they
45:10under pressure as they race against the clock, but they also have to fight the dizziness
45:14to collect only the five images they saw from the 10 hanging above them.
45:18Then, they have to arrange those images in order of weight, starting with the lightest.
45:24PJ changing her mind about the man there.
45:28Every image they get wrong means a five-second penalty.
45:31The brainy with the slowest time will be eliminated from the dojo.
45:36She may not have got the stations right in the training, but she's got a full house here.
45:40No penalties.
45:44Now, feisty Fusil.
45:46Fusil was the only brainy to get all the stations right in the training.
45:50Here, he seems to be struggling a bit with the dizziness.
45:56Don't forget that this challenge decides which two brainy's will go through to the final round.
46:01The table of supreme focus.
46:04Fusil doesn't seem to be in a hurry.
46:06You're against the clock, remember?
46:20Fusil's used his training well to get the right images in the right order.
46:25Can no-nonsense Nehal live up to his opponents?
46:30In the training, Nehal repeated the first letter of the station to help him remember them,
46:35and it seems like he's doing the same thing here.
46:38But will it work?
46:39Fusil.
46:40B-M-F-E-C.
46:42B-M-F-E-C.
46:44B-M-F-E-C.
46:47He's got the right images in his hand, but can he get them in the correct order?
46:51Don't forget, our brainy's are arranging the images in order of weight, starting with the lightest.
47:00No penalties for Nehal either, but was it fast enough to secure his place in the final?
47:06Time for the results.
47:11Parabjit.
47:1257 seconds and no penalties.
47:14A great time.
47:17Fusil.
47:181 minute 22 and no penalties.
47:21We know Nehal had no penalties,
47:23so his place in the dojo all hangs on how quickly he completed the course.
47:291 minute and 10 seconds,
47:31so Nehal's in and Feisty Fusil is out.
47:42Walk of eternal regret.
47:45I really wanted to win.
47:47I was so eager from beginning to end, but that was the end for me.
47:51I think Nehal's going to win the black belt because he's, like, really talented.
47:57So with only one level left to go, it leaves just plucky PJ and no-nonsense Nehal to wear the
48:03brown brain belts.
48:05I can't tell you much, but I can tell you emotions.
48:09Okay, I can't scream really properly.
48:11I'm very relieved because, like, I felt, I thought at the beginning I was going to get out in the
48:15first round.
48:17Brain Jitsu.
48:208 young hopeful arrived at Brain Training Dojo to fight for Brain Jitsu BlackBrain belt.
48:26As challenges got tougher, Brainy gets fewer.
48:30Some crack under pressure.
48:32Others too slow.
48:34One by one they have been eliminated till just two remain.
48:38Lucky PJ.
48:39I can't say, may the best man or may the best woman win.
48:42So I have to say, may the best person win.
48:45And no-nonsense Nehal.
48:48It's going to be quite a hard battle at the table of Supreme Focus because PJ is good at, like,
48:53some aspects of the game, but I want to pressure.
48:56But who will use Brain Training 2 Max to win final challenge?
49:02Level 7.
49:04Black belt.
49:05So, this is it.
49:08Between my two remaining Brainy's and the black belt stands Brain Jitsu's ultimate challenge.
49:14A mental duel that is head-to-head in every sense.
49:19The battlefield?
49:20A table.
49:21But not just any table.
49:23For this, my friends, is the table of Supreme Focus.
49:27Where our two Brainy's will attempt to move a ball across the table using only the power of their mind.
49:34By getting this far, they've already demonstrated mental control under many different types of pressure.
49:41But now, they must learn to focus their minds by entering a state of total calm.
49:47To prepare them, my two finalists will need to get into the zone.
49:52Room of Mental Nourishment.
49:57We welcome Plucky PJ and No-Nonsense Nay-How to the final room of Mental Nourishment.
50:03For this task, our Brainy's must bring together all their training to achieve ultimate focus.
50:10Mentally prepare yourself for this final task.
50:12Don't let the sounds put yourself off.
50:17So, our two finalists have to block out the noises and focus only on finding their inner calm and concentration.
50:25If you're relaxed.
50:27Yeah, I could sleep through a thunderstorm and still be asleep.
50:31Both Brainy's have done well.
50:33But let's see if a training tip can help them further.
50:37Tip.
50:38Focus on the object in the room.
50:44I wanted Russia.
50:47Made the best person.
50:51Did you find that very easy?
50:53Very easy.
50:55Yeah, true.
50:57What did you focus on?
50:59A glass of water.
51:02I used this to drink because I could hydrate properly and then I concentrated on it.
51:08Because it's see-through and then you look at all the things inside it.
51:11I feel prepared and focused and I'm going to go for that black belt.
51:16Yeah, yeah, we'll see, we'll see.
51:19Both Brainy's seem focused and ready.
51:21The competition is tighter than a lycra-clad sumo.
51:24Who will triumph over the table of supreme focus and get the black?
51:28Let's find out.
51:30The table of supreme focus.
51:35Rules are simple.
51:37Each Brainy must push ball to their opponent's end of table using only power of mind.
51:43Sensors in Brainy's headbands measure brainwaves.
51:46This is converted into electrical signal which moves ball.
51:50More focused mind, stronger signal and faster ball will travel.
51:56See how Brainy's are doing on this readout.
51:59Two lines represent each player's brainwaves.
52:02Lower the line, more concentrated their mind.
52:18To make sure this is the test of all tests, our Brainy's must win the best of three rounds.
52:24So, this is the big one.
52:26Our two finalists must use all their brain training to enter their zone of absolute focus.
52:32This is the reason they came to the dojo.
52:34This is the moment they've been training for.
52:38They're off.
52:39PJ is the first to move the ball.
52:41The lower, flatter green line on the readout shows she has the most focused mind.
52:46Nehal's black line is dipping up and down, almost crossing hers at certain points.
52:52Can he find that extra bit of focus to turn the tables?
52:57Holy mackerel sushi!
52:59Nehal has stopped the ball.
53:03But PJ has regained control and taken round one for herself.
53:12Nehal was so close to getting control there, can he concentrate his mind enough to win the second round?
53:20No nonsense, Nehal is straight off the starting blocks this time.
53:24His flat, black brainwave line shows a focus he didn't have in the first round.
53:29PJ's green line is also low and flat.
53:32It's so close to his.
53:34Is this going to be a three-round battle?
53:38Nehal's nearly got it, but PJ's mind is putting up a good fight.
53:42Can't you turn it around?
53:48Who done noodles?
53:49Nehal's won the second round.
53:51This truly is brain power at its best.
53:54But who'll master the table and grab the black on this final round?
54:01Nehal is first to move the ball again.
54:04And his black line shows his mind is still fighting for that black belt.
54:11PJ doesn't look as focused.
54:13Her green brainwave line is so close to Nehal's, it's almost touching it.
54:17Can she find that supreme focus she had in the first round and turn the tables to take the black?
54:30That's it.
54:31It's all over.
54:32Nehal used his training to the max to prove himself a true master of the mind.
54:37And worthy winner of the black belt of brain jitsu.
54:42I feel very excited and I've loved, like, all the tasks that we've done and it's been a really fun
54:47adventure.
54:48I feel really happy that I made everyone proud, and my family, all my friends, everyone.
54:53And it feels nice.
54:55Glory for one brings disappointment for another.
54:58She fought valiantly, but now PJ must leave the dojo.
55:05Walk of eternal regret.
55:09I started to panic, because, like, I really wanted to win this, but I really didn't.
55:17So, plucky PJ just lost focus in the end, and it cost her dearly.
55:22But it's a triumph for no-nonsense Nehal.
55:25The competition was one of the tightest we've seen.
55:28But in the end, Nehal used his brain training to the max to find that extra focus for the final
55:34mind sprint.
55:35It's a passing PJ to grab the coveted black brain belt of brain jitsu.
55:42I feel very excited.
55:44I'm very proud of myself, and I think I've done really well.
55:46I've really improved in everything, especially focusing and concentrating.
55:50I'm just happy inside.
55:51That's all that matters to me.
55:53Yeah!
55:53Our journey has come to an end.
55:56Another brainy has proven themselves worthy to wear the brain jitsu black belt.
56:02But while brain jitsu might represent the most extreme form of brain training,
56:07its philosophy can be shared by all.
56:11Each and every one of you has it in your power to grow your mind.
56:16All it takes is dedication and practice.
56:19This has been...

56:24Reign jitsu!
