00:26The problem is, I'm beginning to get all types of strange reports from the neighboring

00:46Last year, we had a very significant spike in unusual emergency calls.
00:52I gotta tell you, I've never seen anything like it in my 36 years of police work.

01:39We're heading to the Adam Stevens house in Martinsburg.
01:42As you know, I've been really digging in, trying to find us some way of accessing these
01:47cave systems.
01:48And as far as I know, this is actually the only remaining opening to any of the cave systems
01:53in all of Shepherdstown County.

01:56Paranormal activity in towns for our in Shepherdstown is getting worse.
01:59In all of our cases we've been to lately, there seems to be some sort of dark negative
02:03presence that's very aggressive.
02:05We have a new theory that this dark entity is using these underground limestone cave systems
02:10to travel from one town to the next.
02:14There is a opening in the cave systems underneath the house.

02:19Normally, we don't investigate locations unless we get a call for help.
02:23But after discovering that massive cave system in our last investigation, we're completely
02:27revamping how we do things.
02:29It's not just Charlestown.
02:31There's a whole network of tunnels and caves.

02:36They're completely sealed off.
02:37This negative is down there.
02:39It's huge.
02:40And it doesn't want us down there.
02:42Now we're trying to get ahead of these hauntings by being proactive in investigating this historic
02:46museum in Martinsburg.
02:47It has direct access to the limestone caves that we believe that this dark presence is using.
02:53You know the elements that make up limestone, particularly sometimes quartz is present in it?

02:58It really has the ability to amplify paranormal activity or spiritual energy.

04:19The house was built in the 1780s by Adam Steven.

04:30probably to have an escape route in case there were an attack
04:33by the Native Americans or the British
04:35or some other foes of his.

05:25This is the first time we're seeing the cave entrance.
05:27We've been trying to figure out any access we can gain
05:30to get down there.
05:31We feel a lot of the paranormal activity leading us
05:33to different cases has brought us to this point.

05:44and it's very extensive.
05:45It covers a number of blocks under this part of town.

06:03So we're hoping that getting down into this cave
06:05will give us some answers as to what it is we're chasing.

06:25I was standing up at this building
06:27when I noticed a greenish mist up here
06:31to the right of the stone building.
06:34So to the right of the house over here?
06:41I was walking out the house one evening,
06:44and I saw a strange green glow.
06:52I knew that it wasn't fog or smoke.
06:55Because it seemed to move with a purpose.
07:10The greenish mist floated up that way, went across the tracks,
07:14and into the woods over there.
07:16Oh, wow.
07:17I mean, that's a long, really a long time for something
07:20to be materialized for us.
07:21Yeah.
07:22Was that headed in the direction of the second cave opening?

07:28On the other side of the tracks here.
07:31We know water is a spiritual conductor.
07:33And in some cases, spirits can actually manifest themselves
07:36through condensation.
07:37So the mist that Keith saw could be indicative
07:39to something paranormal.
07:41What I want to know is, is this mist somehow related
07:43to the dark presence we've been following through all
07:46of our investigations?
07:47This house is owned by the city.
07:49It's part of the Adam-Steven complex.
07:51It's like a moonshiner entrance or something.

09:08I mean, this could be the cause of all the paranormal activity

09:14and you do renovations and it seems to stir up activity.
09:16Construction is a well-known trigger for paranormal activity.
09:19It disrupts the foundation and causes dormant spirits to awaken.

09:25for all the activity that's been happening recently.
09:27There have been caves near all of our previous cases.
09:30And if this cave entrance is undergoing construction
09:32and if it's, in fact, connected to all of the other caves,
09:37then that could be really the reason why
09:39we have this rise of paranormal activity
09:41in the towns outside of Shepherdstown.

13:22as well.

14:31About a week ago, I was locking up a museum and I was headed to my car when I
14:47noticed a mist forming.
14:50At first, I thought the cloud was fog.
14:54But clouds don't normally glow.
14:58And then that's when it formed into what I saw.
15:05The mist formed into a figure of a man wearing religious garbs.
15:12In place of his eyes, there was dark black holes.
15:22And I ran in here, locked myself in.
15:26I was questioning my sanity.
15:28I thought I was losing my mind.
15:30And it was quite scary actually.
15:32And what time of day was this?
15:34This was at night, about 9 o'clock at night.
15:36So this is like the same time that you experienced that as well?
15:40It was like 8, 9 o'clock at night?
15:41About the same time at night, yes.

15:47We're getting a major spike on the melt meter right outside
15:49of the entrance of the caves.

16:21where that other cave entrance is.

18:02it says to me that we could possibly be dealing
18:05with some sort of residual haunting.
18:07A residual haunting is an imprint on the space.
18:11It's usually caused by some sort of traumatic event.
18:14This looped playback of something that happened before.

18:20and do a psychic sweep and we can get her perspective
18:22on everything.

23:44And if Lori's right about him being a Catholic priest on this property a couple hundred
23:49years ago, that at least narrows it down for Dana, our local historian, to dig up some
23:54history and really identify who he is.
24:06Catholicism was not common in the colony of Virginia.
24:10The first Catholic church in Martinsburg wasn't built until 1825.
24:15Wow.
24:16But there were a few Catholic practitioners.
24:18They would hold mass in people's houses.
24:22And there's great evidence that Catholic mass was held in the Adam Stevens house when the
24:29O'Farrell family lived there.
24:31Oh, that's interesting.
24:32There's a letter dated 1791 addressed to Bishop John Carroll.
24:39It would appear that Father Dennis Cahill was in charge here at that time.
24:44So in fact, a priest named Father Dennis Cahill did do services in Martinsburg.
24:51And it would have been that house.
24:53That was a Catholic family.
24:56So there is a small possibility that the spirit that everybody has been seeing, this
25:00miss, this priest, could possibly be him.

25:23And now, he tells me they are actually the club that is excavating some of these caves down
25:28there.
25:28Even though there's no official map of the cave systems, the Tri-State Grotto cavers
25:33were able to provide me with a map of all the known entrances here in Jefferson County.
25:37I just hope somehow this information can help the team get ahead of these hauntings.

26:23You guys, you know, every case that we've worked on so far is in close proximity to one of these
26:28cave entrances.
26:29We have Martinsburg, Shepherdstown, Sharpsburg, Harpers Fair, Charlestown.
26:33I mean, all our cases have been directing us to these areas.
26:36The fact that there are cave entrances near all our previous cases is a huge breakthrough for us.
26:42Now we have to get down into the caves at the Adam Stevens' house and confront this negative entity before
26:48it spreads any further.

27:01The reason why I asked Miss Rose to come here is because since she's already seen the apparition of the
27:06priest,
27:06that makes me feel that he's actually comfortable with her already.

27:40Because these caves are tight and narrow, it's going to be hard for anyone to get down there physically.

27:47So dropping this in will give us access to spots that no one will ever see.

32:12or oscillations on the other side of these walls.

32:20and that gives off its own electromagnetic field.

41:41So, we think that what actually stirred up all this activity that you suddenly had was definitely the excavating.
41:48And that's kind of what awoke, who we believe to be Father Cahill, because you both witnessed the same exact
41:55thing running the same path.
41:57We believe he's kind of been stuck in this residual time loop, doing the same thing every night, which is
42:04kind of what we see in a residual haunting.

42:09So, I just did a sweep along the path where you saw the mist and the priest, and I didn't
42:13get any unusual readings.
42:14So, I believe the spirits haunting this location are now at peace.

42:36And he writes, also, one tenant removing floorboards from the kitchen found a natural cave with some skeletons therein.

42:47Dana, finding the fact that these two people actually did exist and died underneath the kitchen is pretty amazing.

42:56Even though there aren't any records proving who these two people were, I think that between Lori giving the last
43:02rites and the offering we gave by the tracks earlier this morning, we've really helped move these two spirits on.
43:08You know, I have to say, I know before you were almost hesitant to really talk about it, but you
43:15coming forward and talking about your experience, I feel really, honestly, helped put the spirit to rest.
