00:34League and now into the championship and it's happened just like that there's an incredible
00:40thing already happened here arguably one of the greatest stories in the history of football but
00:45if it happens again if there's another promotion up to the Premier League and arguably you've got
00:51the greatest story in the history of sport right sport the whole lot
00:57don't forget where you came from don't forget why you're made of the ones who were there
01:05but no one else would care don't be afraid to cry now even when the world comes crashing in

01:36about this take two marker um all right let's talk about looking ahead to the championship
01:43what do you think the expectations will be what you do after you make history

02:14of where we were headed it wasn't much time to to really bask how long did you bask
02:26I don't think people genuinely realize how difficult it is to get a team from national
02:31league to league two to league one and then for the championship in consecutive seasons
02:35it's a daunting prospect when every other club in the championship this year has played in the top tier
02:44and there's only us that are yet to do it that bears repeating there is only one team in the
02:50championship that hasn't played in the top tier and that is wrexham afc for you to challenge in the
02:58championship with the money of the teams coming down from the premier league you'll find it really
03:02difficult and that's where your supporters will get the shot the games come thick and fast and the
03:07physical demands of of the league obviously a lot higher from the division we'd we'd come from
03:12that is one of the greatest goals you will ever see this is such a tough division i genuinely think
03:20it's the toughest league in the world bar none you know the reality is in the championship you have
03:24any number of what I would call sort of temporarily embarrassed premier league teams like ipswich town
03:30and leicester and southampton all of whom have dropped down from premier league this season
03:34the teams that come down they always come down with a lot of power in their squads
03:38the journey this season is to try and compete with clubs who are running proper big training
03:45centers academies big stadium big atmospheres and massive fan bases championship it's a battle of
03:52the bastards it's well documented it's the hardest league in the world to win the standings in the
03:58championship are often on such a razor's edge every team has the ability to beat everybody else
04:03and a run of a few good results can rocky you to the top of the table a few bad
04:08results can see you
04:09tumbling down into the basement of course our worst case scenario is what happened to Luton town who
04:15recently suffered back-to-back relegations dropping from the premier league back to league one we are
04:21now at a table where we have to put an excessive amount of money on red the red being rexham
04:27if we
04:28don't spin that wheel and put that money on the table we have no chance of winning the prize yet
04:34what does that do to the town of wrexham and its small football club in the event it comes up

04:41it's like you've chased this prize you've chased this dream you've just changed all this success
04:46and now the most daunting power stars
04:54i've watched more football videos in this transfer market than i think i have in any other to be
05:00honest right now we're in the race to the finish line to get ourselves ready for the first home match
05:06of the season against west brom and we're not ready at all we're still putting the finishing touches on the
05:13pitch and the cop is just dirt and boulders we've already had to sign new players like striker ryan

05:27contracts and while everyone at the race course is working their butts off everyone else has to go

08:32the ball came to me on the edge of the box i think i chested it down and kind of
08:36was in two
08:37miles whether to shoot or not defenders kind of read me so we're kind of scrapping for the ball
08:42and then in the middle of it all i just felt a big crack at that point i knew it
08:47was going
08:48to be a serious one yeah finding out that i'd ruptured the ligament ollie rathbone's injury in
08:54particular was one i think that hurt us because going into the season i think most people would
09:02have had ollie rathbone in that start in 11 and not to have him available due to the injury was
09:08a big blow
09:14so in order for us to compete in championship we're going to have to make changes all over the
09:20place but the biggest change is going to happen on the pitch which of course is the most devastating
09:28whenever you're talking about losing a large amount of people beloved players you run the risk of the
09:34supporters no longer supporting them because they're not following a kit they're following
09:39a human being and so making that transition is really difficult mark howard's left with everyone's
09:45best regards he was a great character for us he's starting for salford good luck to him yeah steven
09:51fletcher was released by rex the the clutch man just coming off the bench getting you a goal whenever
09:56you needed it you just felt that excitement the whole stadium believed that something was going to happen
10:02whenever fletch came onto the pitch i'm just blessed we got to see him in a rexham shirt what an

10:07honor it was paul mullin legendary striker for rexham has joined wigan on a season-long loan
10:18i'm gutted i thought mullin was going to be with us a bit longer people say oh you know we

10:23be looking back and we should look forward and it's like well i can't remember the last time we had
10:28a striker like paul mullin have we during the summer um ryan lowe wigan's manager got in touch and
10:40we met up and had a chat and he told me his idea was for me to play every week
10:44again and
10:45then obviously wigan was close to home so that was another tick paul mullin is the face of what
10:51we've just achieved it's a shame one right he scored 100 goals a living legend in our lifetime
10:58you sort of realize that these players have authored some of the greatest moments of your life
11:03it's tough when they leave you know because we're not here if not for paul mullen why is paul mullin

11:10why did parker not give paul mullin a chance there's a kind of an understanding that like they made this
11:15contribution there's a baton that's handed off and the next group goes you know
11:25he's been an incredible servant to the club i think he's you know he has earned the the title

12:04town means to people i still look back now the day of uh boren wood when we get promoted as
12:10a team
12:11and i see gold men on the pitch crying thanking me i think it was the anniversary of of the

12:17game the other day and he put up a clip of his first goal and i text him being like
12:22uh earnestly
12:23saying that's one of the greatest moments of my life

12:55bailey was a passionate and dedicated wrexham fc fan there's no question the wrexham fc was his number
13:03he would say it is my life our bar was just was just going out the shed just now called
13:11bailey's bar
13:13he'd come home at night and he'd go into his bar and all you can hear is wrexham songs been
13:17sang all night
13:21what's his name have a look at it have a look at it last year before we clinched the championship
13:28at the
13:28charlton match i met a man named jamie jamie made me aware of a tragedy that happened to he and
13:35his
13:36family and they lost their son bailey when did he pass september 2023 age 20. sorry it's not supposed
13:45to happen i'm really sorry that's not supposed to happen we went through the footage and we were
13:53looking back to the first time that i'd ever been to the race course ground wow it shows that i
14:00met
14:00bailey on the first day i was ever here he was one of a group of people who were singing
14:08outside the
14:09race course and we chatted and it was my first introduction to the spirit of wrexham i was amazing
14:16and i'm so grateful for it because it was actually that indoctrination it was that moment where i was
14:20like oh i understand the language of this place and it was actually bailey who delivered that
14:3520 23rd of september 2023 it is stockport away and there is the final whistle wrexham losing 5-0 at
14:47stockport they went to see a band in the pub and off i went to pick him up and he
14:54just got up the car too
14:55quick um lost his footing and he banged his head and he was unconscious um
15:08and he found the ambulance
15:13bailey regained his consciousness and then he was up on his feet and i kept saying are you all right
15:21you're right i said you need to go hospital he said no no dad i'm fine i'm fine i just
15:25want to go home
15:26and we just monitored him that night didn't we because literally every hour or two i was just
15:31going in checking him checking him checking in on him and he was was okay and then then the next
15:37day
15:38he went out um went to meet his friends down in the queenston and then he returned home and
15:43he was okay and then the last words he said to me was i'm gonna bed now dad
15:48um don't forget the bradford tickets comes here 10 o'clock in the morning
15:56they'd identified that he'd actually fractured his skull
16:00he hasn't just got a crack on the brain he's got a bleed
16:17it's been loved helping others so he loved people it was he would want to help as many people as
16:23he could
16:26um because we'd agreed for him to be an organ donor the next morning we were told
16:35his heart and lungs were already on the way to saving two people's lives
16:44my brother was just crushed it was a week after the one year anniversary
16:54i came down one morning and there was the card and letter
17:06to my donor's family
17:10i hope this card and letter find you well on the 28th of september 2023 i underwent heart
17:17transplant surgery at queen elizabeth hospital in birmingham i wanted to write and say how sorry i
17:23was for your loss but to also thank you without your loss i would not have received the second chance
17:29of life that i've been given i will be eternally grateful for this and i cannot express in words
17:38what this has done for myself and my family my name is matthew i live in shropshire with my wife
17:44alexandra and daughter grace grace has just turned 16 and started college
17:49being able to watch her attend her prom and start her new independence at college
17:57is something i will never take for granted the doctors are pleased with my progress and my heart
18:03is working well and healthy forever grateful matthew
18:10just receiving that letter it was just amazing it it just changed everything didn't it yeah it changed

20:46half of them right and and yet here we are i didn't know who to trust i didn't know what

20:51composition was going to look like it's just something gets lost you know with that
21:01wrexham i've seen up there they've gone massive but it's like
21:06do you really gonna do well in this league no we've never spent money like this before
21:12clearly all investments carry risk and there's huge pressure on partners to make sure that we have done
21:20this wisely that we've invested well and we've got it correct come on let's go this is a premier league

26:19things that a parent can go through but matthew was so close to death
26:29autumn 2022 it hit me one morning where it felt like i had woken up with a bag over my

26:44i was diagnosed with left ventricle heart failure at an estimate they'd given him six weeks
26:54i got a phone call a transplant team said to me we think we've found something that's suitable
27:01for your body so the surgeon came to matt's bedside and said it's a go you've got 20 minutes
27:16i was told during my stay in hospital if i wanted to reach out there was a process that i
27:22could follow
27:22to be able to say thank you to my donor they told me about bailey and he was the most
27:29loving caring
27:30kind-hearted young man and son it is truly the greatest gift that i could ever be given and i'm
27:44forever grateful

34:35away didn't he i just got the vibe off him that i i could feel that he was going to
34:42want to meet
34:45that's what i'm going to do so i'm excited yeah bailey was a massive wexham fan he'd followed them for
34:52all of his life and he went to all the games with his dad whether they were home or away
34:58that's when he said which i'm going to get goosebumps now guaranteed yeah um he said it would be the
35:05ultimate respect to bailey to bring bailey's heart back to xmfc and it's just yeah he's just amazing
35:15and he's just so sweet yeah how are you guys how are you lovely seeing you are you okay how

35:33we're very lucky we didn't know how rare it was but when you look at what he's gone through
35:40it's a very very brave move the doctors have said that from the ecg everything looks good

39:05I really do feel like I know Matthew says that Bailey saved him
39:10But I think he really saved us too

39:52When you talk about the heart of the club and you talk about what that is
39:55I think it's the easy and lazy thing to do is to look at it as wins and losses
39:59The score on the scoreboard or that sort of thing, but
40:03What's been abundantly clear and ceaseless since the day we got here was that it's the people
40:11It's not one single entity. It's not one person
40:14It is a continuum of people in the town and now all over the world
40:21Rooting for a team playing for a team
40:24It's those people that are standing shoulder to shoulder
40:27Supporting this club through the hard times and through this enchanted journey
40:33It's not something that we found or it's not that we grew it's something that was always there
40:40That's what the heart of Wrexham is it isn't a football team
40:53It would be utterly surreal to see a Wrexham side lining up against
