00:00And calling up a player absolutely fits that model of, it could be a spark.
00:06A.J. Ewing looked like that spark.
00:08The speed, the confidence, the triple, the multiple walks, everything that he brought to a baseball field.
00:17It energized a fan base.
00:21Citi Field was electric. It was alive.
00:23It was the exact type of energy that this team needed.
00:28And it's the exact type of energy that this fan base needed.
00:34Enthusiasm, hype, enjoyment.
00:38Ten runs scored.
00:40And A.J. Ewing was at the center of that.
00:43Young players, prospects, when they get called up, they represent a lot of things.
00:48But the biggest thing they represent is hope.
00:50Hope for the present, hope for the future.
00:54And A.J. Ewing, in one game, in one night, he looked like hope.
01:02He looked like a player that can turn this team around this year to be that spark.
01:08The spark they've been looking for.
01:10Because the Mets put up ten runs, and he was terrific.
01:13He passed the initial eye test.
01:16Obviously, he ripped through the minor leagues.
01:19Got to the big leagues very quickly.
01:22Ahead of schedule, no doubt about it.
01:25And now, with Luis Robert Jr. being on the shelf a lot longer than I'm sure a lot of us
01:30expected,
01:31it's going to open up a bigger runway for A.J. Ewing to get playing time, day in and day
01:35out.
01:36He's not going to platoon.
01:37Mendoza made that very clear.
01:38A.J. Ewing is here to play.
01:39He's here to be the starting center fielder.
01:41He's here to be the spark plug.
01:43And when you consider what he did tonight and what Carson Bench continues to do,
01:46there's a lot to be excited about those two young players.
01:49Not only for the future, but for the present.
