00:00Hey guys, it's Lucy and this is my show. What's up? I posted on my snapchat a
00:05couple weeks ago and I asked you guys to send me your questions about how I
00:09survived high school. I have a whole list of questions. Oh my god, my phone is
00:14rainbow. Lauren Moran 22 wants to know, how did you juggle homework, friends, and
00:19being in all those musicals at the same time? I was in about 17 or 18 shows
00:25during my time in high school. My senior year I was the president of the drama
00:28club and of course at the same time of doing all of that I needed to focus on
00:32my schoolwork so that I could get good grades and go to college. Time management
00:36was key. I definitely spent most of my time during the day focusing on school
00:41work and then I spent most of my time after school focusing on extracurriculars
00:45like the drama club and then I spent most of my time on the weekends hanging out
00:49with my friends. I needed to focus on one thing at a time and when I really
00:53allocated my brain power to that one thing during its designated time period
00:57everything fell into place. The Young N.A. asks, did you enjoy the cafeteria pizza? I don't think my high
01:04school
01:04had pizza. We had pizza bites and it was my favorite ever but pizza squares were a
01:11no-go. Sophia Navas asks, did you lose any good friends while in high school? I didn't
01:17lose any friends in high school but I did do a lot of friend group hopping around to
01:21try to find my people. And high school is really a time to figure that out and to
01:26learn who those people are for you that are going to be your ride-or-die best
01:31friends forever. So I definitely did not lose friends. I didn't burn any bridges.
01:36I'm actually still friends with so many people from my high school and I see them
01:40all around New York City from time to time and we have a great time together.
01:43But I will say that high school is a time to come into your own, figure out who you
01:48are. And stop hanging out with people just because they're popular but start
01:51hanging out with people because they're nice and you actually align with the same
01:55values that they have. Jordan Taylor asks, were you able to balance having a
01:59boyfriend on top of homework and studies? My current boyfriend, Michael, with whom I
02:03share this apartment space, was my high school boyfriend. I started dating him junior
02:08year. He was a year older so he was a senior. I did a great job at balancing
02:12boyfriend with schoolwork in that I always made sure my schoolwork was done
02:16before it was hangout with the boyfriend time. Michael, on the other hand, did not
02:21do the best job and he got a D on his Spanish final because I kept him up on the
02:26phone. And he still holds that against me to this day and you know what? I think I'm
02:30more important than his Spanish final so I'm cool with it. Kaylee O'Brien wants to
02:34know, how did you survive dealing with cliques in high school? High school is like
02:38the jungle. Mean Girls is honestly an accurate representation of what some high
02:43schools in America are like. The way that I dealt with cliques was really trying to
02:48keep into perspective how high school is not the end of the road. I think a lot of
02:53people get stuck in this mindset that high school is the bubble of life and
02:57that's it. That's where you're gonna be forever. I remember all the times that I
03:00felt stressed out or that I felt like I didn't fit in. I reminded myself that there
03:05was so much more life that was to be had and that perspective really helped me get
03:09through the times when I felt like I was being left out. At the end of the day,
03:13most people who are in cliques are sticking to that group of people because
03:17they themselves feel a little bit insecure about not being part of a clique.
03:21Odds are, if you look around a high school cafeteria, the people that are not
03:25part of a set clique, the people that are floating around and have many groups of
03:29friends, those people are probably the coolest ones. Find them and befriend them.
03:35mandapanda0206 asks, did you enjoy your senior prom? You bet I did. I went with
03:39Michael, BRB, let me show you a picture. This is a magnet that's currently on my
03:44fridge from senior prom. Me and Michael. Jake A Roth asks, how did you handle peer
03:51pressure? I think very early on I decided who I was and what I wanted to do and what
03:56I didn't want to do and when someone asked me to do something that I didn't
03:59want to do, I was very comfortable saying no thank you. I was never shaming the
04:05people that wanted to smoke weed or wanted to do drugs or wanted to drink a
04:09lot of alcohol. I found that that was just something that I didn't want to do
04:13for myself. So by allowing other people to do whatever they chose to do and
04:18still hanging out with people who were making different choices from me, I was
04:21confidently able to stay away from being peer pressured but not lose any
04:25friends in the process. The young NA asks, were you the person to hand out or ask for gum?
04:32That is a great question and I was always the asker. I never had gum.
04:36Karlyn Cosby asks, do you have any tips for starting high school? Carry a backpack. I
04:43think a lot of people try carrying like those side shoulder bags and they wind up
04:47getting scoliosis and having really bad back pain. A lot of people think
04:50backpacks are not cool but take it from an adult who's living in the real world
04:53who still carries a backpack. And the truth is the term cool is not a set article of
04:58clothing or a bag that you carry. Cool is a mindset and it's the person who's doing
05:04the carrying or the wearing that makes something cool or not cool. Little Missy
05:08H asks, did you ever have an awkward phase in high school and how did you get
05:12over it? Did I have an awkward phase? Oh my gosh. Let me take you back to my dental
05:19history. I had braces in sixth grade, seventh grade, eighth grade, and ninth grade. Four
05:24years of braces, then they were off and I was like, I'm home free for high school.
05:28Then, in tenth grade, as you guys know from my period vlog, I got my period in
05:33tenth grade, which is when my body started undergoing some developmental changes. And
05:38after I got my period, my jaw shifted. So these two teeth started floating up into my
05:45head and I was about to leave it and my mom was like, you can't leave this. You are
05:50gonna regret leaving this for your whole life. So my junior year of high school I
05:54got braces back on and I had braces for my boyfriend's senior prom. So yes, I had
06:03an awkward phase and I got over it. Truthfully, I didn't know it was an
06:07awkward phase while it was happening. It's now that I look back at the pictures
06:10that I realize how awkward the phase actually was. I think I was more awkward
06:14in middle school though. I'm really happy middle school's over. Hi, it's KTW asked, how did
06:19you stay organized throughout high school? I was obsessed with school supplies. I was
06:25one of those people that ran to Staples right before school started and got tons
06:29of color-coded notebooks and folders. I loved stickers and agendas. I bought all
06:34new pens and markers. I always had a notebook and a matching colored folder. So
06:39red was always for history, yellow was always for science, blue was always for
06:44math, and green was always for English. And that's it! That is how I survived high
06:49school. I went in and I made it out and I'm alive to tell the tale. I know that
06:54high school can be very hard sometimes, but I promise you there is a light at the
06:58end of the tunnel. Do you see it? Stick it out, hold tight, because better things are
07:04coming your way. If there's anything I missed, comment below and let's start the
07:08convo about it right now. And as always, let me know what else you want to see me
07:12vlog about. Bye!
