00:00Hey guys it's Lucy and here I am in my adult room. This has been my room for
00:04approximately one year now and I have to tell you a story about last weekend when
00:09I went home to the house that I grew up in. Something that you might not know
00:12about me is that before I graduated high school and went off to college I had
00:16lived in one house for my entire life and the only real thing that changed was
00:20that early on in my life I shared a bedroom with my twin sister and then as
00:24we got older we expanded past the bathroom and we made a little Jack and
00:28Jill bathroom where we each had our own rooms with a connecting bathroom and my
00:32parents still live in that childhood house. So this weekend I went back but I
00:37brought my camera because I wanted to take you guys on a tour of my childhood
00:41bedroom. Started off in the bathroom and you can kind of see the Jack and Jill
00:46situation that's going on. The door on the right was my sister Allie's bedroom door
00:50the door on the left was my door and now we're going inside my room. I'm
00:57fortunate enough that when I graduated and went off to college my parents did not
01:00convert my bedroom into a gym and they also did not throw away my belongings.
01:05So if you go back into my room right this minute it looks pretty much exactly the
01:10same it looked as when I was a senior in high school. I have a dresser, a chest, and a
01:15desk right under the window. It's another piece that just sort of holds books and
01:19items. And if you're ever really looking for the good stuff in my room it can all be
01:23found in this cabinet. And the walls of my bedroom are almost entirely filled with
01:28posters of every single play that I was in in high school. And there are tons of
01:32pictures all around my room of me, my sister, my brother, my boyfriend, and
01:37remember my boyfriend Michael who lives with me right here was my high school
01:41boyfriend. So there are pictures of him here and also there. Kids everywhere. But the
01:49real real interesting thing about this was that I found my diaries from 2003.
01:552003 I was just graduating fifth grade going into sixth grade sort of straddling
02:00the elementary school and middle school time period. The first diary I came across
02:03was one of those password journals. I don't know if you ever had a password
02:07journal or if you don't know what that is but it's basically an electronic diary
02:11where you record a password and it recognizes your voice and the passcode and
02:15then when you try to get in it either says welcome back what's new and opens up
02:19for you or it says your password please. Jitterbug. Password does not match. And when
02:26your password does not match. Access denied. And it beeps like crazy and it's an
02:34intruder situation. A classic intruder situation. And that really came in handy
02:38when I was in high school and my brother was trying to break into the diary. This is
02:42the third password journal I've tried to get into and this one actually said
02:46welcome back what's new but then it didn't open so I'm about ready to smash
02:51it. Oh whoa I broke into the password journal. But aside from the password
02:58journals I also had about three other diaries that were all from the exact same
03:03year. So I went through some of these diaries and I actually learned a lot.
03:07Number one I was extremely offended when my friend did not invite me to her date
03:12with her boyfriend. Hannah had a date today with her boyfriend Brian. I'm
03:16surprised that Ally and I weren't invited. And let me just say this was in maybe
03:21fifth grade so I don't really remember but I guess back then you're supposed to
03:24invite your friends to your dates. The second thing I learned and this is no
03:28surprise to me I really wanted to be a doctor and I was not afraid to write it
03:33out in my diary. I want to be a doctor spelled d-o-c-t-e-r and then crossed
03:42out.
03:43Pretty ironic that I wound up switching from medicine to English but at least I
03:48can now spell doctor. I'm trying to figure out if I was crazy or if you guys
03:51did this too. Did anyone else ever write in a diary at 10 leaving a note to their
03:57future kids? I'm going to show this to my children someday. Whoever my kids are if
04:02you're reading this I love you. I even went so far as to write that I just kissed
04:07my belly to kiss my future children. Was that normal as a kid or was I just a
04:11total weirdo? Would really love your input. And if anyone else did that please
04:15tell me because it would make me feel better. Next thing I learned I am incapable
04:19100% incapable of finishing a diary. Each of them had about 10 pages of text and
04:25then I just completely didn't use the rest of it. I came across my high school
04:29agenda and it was just a burst of color. Highlighters, markers, I was drawing
04:35spongebob characters everywhere. I don't really know how I focused in class with
04:38that kind of beautiful colorful agenda but maybe I did it on my off time. And
04:42something that was a little bit sad to see was that my college agenda was
04:46completely bland. It went from this beautiful burst of life to bleakness.
04:51That's not how the experience felt. Honestly it felt like I was going into this
04:55brave new world of college but I guess my coloring didn't transfer over. I think
05:00it was really cool that I had the chance to go back through my childhood
05:03bedroom and look at some of my relics from when I was a little girl. And I'm
05:06so grateful to my parents for saving all of that because having the experience at
05:1024 to go back and look at that stuff is like nothing else.
05:14I saved that for all these years. I'm loyal. That is good. I think the biggest takeaway from this
05:20weekend at home is that so much of who I am today and my personality as a real
05:25grown woman was right there in that room as a 10 year old. So if you're a young
05:30girl and you're trying to figure out who you're gonna be, just take a look around
05:32your room. You could probably figure it out. And I'd love to know if you have any
05:36childhood diaries that you still have lying around. Comment below. Let us know
05:39what they say. It's always fun to laugh at our younger selves. And I hope you like
05:43this vlog. Let me know what else you want to see me vlog about. And I'll see you next time.
05:47Bye!
