00:15So you will engage in a guided insect tree tour, hands-on source reduction demonstration,
00:20treatment techniques displays, personal protection education, and showcases of innovative technologies
00:28such as geographic information systems, which are maps, drones, surveillance apps, and adult and larval traps.
00:35In terms of our Health Promotion Activity Ambassador Program, which is our second initiative,
00:40where public health inspectors will guide selected schools and students through source reduction initiatives,
00:46including baseline assessment, trap placements, education sessions, as well as mosquito index monitoring,
00:53and report back to the respective Ministry of Health across the Caribbean and CARFA.
01:04Within this framework, Caribbean Mosquito Awareness Week, led by CARFA, functions as a coordinated regional intervention
01:12to reduce mosquito breeding, limit arboviral transmission, and protect communities from dengue,
01:19chikungunya, zika, and other vector-borne diseases.
01:30Based on the recent resurgence of chikungunya to the region, where we saw in December, January in Suriname,
01:37we had a large outbreak, as well as in Cuba, that chikungunya right now seems to be the one to
01:43keep an eye on.
01:44Having said that, of course, dengue remains endemic to the region, zika as well to the region, as well as
01:50parts of Asia,
01:51continue to be in circulation.
01:53So the good thing about it and why we focus on source reduction is that all three of them tend
01:58to be shared by the same vector, right?
02:00Same mosquito, same strategies that we use for one will apply to the other in terms of prevention.
02:06...of what we call this community, you know, strategic plan 2025 to 2025.
