The political situation in Tamil Nadu remains unresolved as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay struggles to reach the majority mark of 118 seats to form the government. Currently holding 116 signatures, the TVK requires the support of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, which has two MLAs.

00:00It's late into the night but look with a number of twists and turns we've been seeing in Tamil Nadu
00:04we're forced to be live through the night because this night could define who exactly is going to be
00:09the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Is it going to be the TVK or not? A couple of hours ago
00:15we thought
00:15done and dusted. This is a deal that's been sealed now with Vijay going with 118 signatures
00:21but then came in another twist that the VCK's letter of support hasn't gone through to the
00:27Lok Bhavan and so Vijay's numbers right now is 116 not the majority mark of 118. So that is really
00:37the challenge for Vijay that he's too short right now. VCK had two numbers that would have brought
00:43him just to that majority mark of 118. That's the challenge that he's facing right now but what is
00:50the VCK stand? Are they going with the DMK? Are they going with the TVK? Let's get you a news
00:55break on
00:55that because we're hearing that the VCK right now is still undecided remaining non-committal.
01:01The news break coming in is that VCK in the official statement now has said that we will
01:06give clarity only tomorrow morning. Tomorrow morning is when they make the announcement which
01:10way they're going whether they're going to back the TVK as they originally stated or they're going to
01:15stick to the DMK. Some reports do suggest that Tol Turma Vallivan, VCK chief, also met with
01:21Stalin a couple of hours ago. Let's take this across to Anagar Keshav and Apoorva Jayachandran for
01:27more details. Anagar to you first on the VCK statement. We're going to have to hold our horses,
01:33wait a bit longer but what happened? Anagar what changed? You know the VCK seemed to be on board.
01:39Everyone said if the left's on board, the VCK is on board. That's the usual known phenomena in Tamil Nadu
01:44that the left and VCK are a package deal. What's happened here?
01:49In fact, you know, there was a speculation that if the left says yes, then the VCK would also follow
01:56suit. In fact, that's also what Turma Vallivan also said on record. The left said yes and then it looks
02:02like the VCK is still hesitant to give that go ahead. What we are learning is that there is a
02:08power
02:09demand on part of Turma Vallivan. Turma Vallivan wants to become the deputy chief minister. He wants
02:14that post because remember even when he was strongly going with DMK, he had asked Stalin for power sharing
02:21which was then denied. But now he thinks that this is the right time to ask Vijay and get his
02:27share of
02:27power and that has been the ask by VCK to TVK but for now the TVK has not agreed to
02:34that. It has still
02:34now remained non-committal to Turma Vallivan's demands and that is why VCK has sought some extra
02:41time until tomorrow morning. We believe that the VCK will be making its final decision. So now the ball
02:47is in TVK's court. Whether they are going to go ahead and give the demands and asks of the VCK.
02:55This discussion is going to go on throughout the night and post which tomorrow morning we'll get to hear
03:01the final verdict from Turma Vallivan. And until then we are not going to get a clarity about Vijay's
03:07oath taking. And that's also why the governor has still withheld from making it official that Vijay
03:13will be taking oath as a next chief minister. So the discussion between these two parties are still
03:19underway. By tomorrow morning we should ideally be getting a clear picture about Turma Vallivan possibly
03:25joining hands with TVK.
03:30No so you know at this point the VCK we understand has been making all kinds of demands Anaka
03:36including a demand for the deputy chief minister post. So is this just really a hard lobbying
03:44almost being used as a bargain tactic by a VCK that they have two seats without us you're nothing you
03:49can't come to power we are the king makers. Is this the VCK driving home that point with this kind
03:54of a
03:54late night twist? Well that's absolutely right. VCK does want more power and they have only two
04:01only two MLAs. If they were with DMK they would never taste power. They would just remain at the
04:07level of MLAs or possibly even a member of parliament position. That's about it. But with TVK they do have
04:13that upper hand to demand because at the end of the day it's Turma Vallivan who is getting to be
04:18the
04:18king maker. Turma Vallivan and the left parties. The left parties have budged unconditionally so but
04:23Turma Vallivan has placed this demand in front of Vijay. You either say yes to my demand or you
04:30don't get to become the chief minister of Taranadu. So it is a very tough ask because Turma Vallivan at
04:35this point has only two MLAs so we're just two legislators in hand. This is the high ask, the tall
04:41ask that Turma Vallivan has placed in front of Vijay that he should be made as the next deputy chief
04:47minister along with Vijay. Vijay is still hesitant to say yes to this matter but if he does not say
04:53yes
04:53then he cannot become the chief minister. So it really is a hard hard bargain that VCK is putting across.
05:01It's a catch 22 situation. I want to bring in Sagairaj for more details on what's happening within
05:07the VCK camp. Sagaira effectively the RUML is out. They've said we're with the DMK. The left is in.
05:13They're saying we'll provide outside support. The congress is of course a part of the government.
05:16They've said we are in an alliance with the TVK. The VCK now there's a big question mark over. If
05:21the
05:22VCK doesn't come on board, what is the option ahead then for the TVK? Is there any other party
05:27that they're reaching out to? Is there any plan B?
05:31The only option left for the TVK is the court. They've already filed a petition in the Supreme Court
05:39and probably they need to knock the door again. They have constitutional rights to go ahead
05:45and form the government with the single largest party in the state. And they have to prove on the
05:51floor of the house that they can get the majority numbers. Or else if they run out of numbers,
05:58that is the only option. Because every single day there are dramas unfolded in the state.
06:03Whether it is Congress or CTI, CPM, or now it is within the election city. So there's a clear
06:10message that not everybody is on the board. One of the other problems people are facing. And today,
06:19after a meeting with his party leaders, Krimavadavan goes to M.K. Stalin's president
06:26and thereafter, a statement released stating that they will announce their decision tomorrow.
06:31They're well aware that Vijay had visited the governor's house today. He has shared the letter,
06:38the support letter which was being given by CPI, CPM and Congress. It was the Vizalit Chakachi,
06:43which is pending. And they have also...
06:45No, so was there a VCK letter, Sagai, was there a VCK letter that was emailed to him,
06:50which he printed and gave to the Lokhbhavan? Is that true? That there were no signatures,
06:54but there was a letter that was emailed, which was sent to the Lokhbhavan, which Vijay had
06:59printed out and given to the Lokhbhavan. Is that true?
07:05No, these are the letters, but not the signature of the ameliers. The governor has categorically
07:10mentioned that you need to send a signature of the ameliers. Yeah, but that letter seeking support
07:13did go through mail. Yeah, the letter that was been actually sent was shared with the media.
07:20We have access to the letter of CPI, CPM and Congress. We seek a letter. Even if they have sent
07:27a
07:27letter to the governor, why are you not making public? When you can issue a media statement,
07:33and when you can share everything on social media, why aren't you sharing this particular letter?
07:39No. See, even TVK had to come out and give up... No, you know, the only question I have here
07:47is Vijay has gone. Vijay has gone to the governor three times now. He got it wrong the first time.
07:53Second time, the governor called him in, asked him for details. Vijay gave explanation. Governor
07:57not convinced. Third time, he's gone and again messed it up. So someone in Vijay's team is
08:02advising him very, very poorly on how this works, on what it takes to form a government. It's pretty
08:09plain and simple. You have to have 118 signatures on paper. You don't have that minus one, minus two,
08:18minus half. It doesn't count. You need 118. And someone in the TVK, outside, legal, luminary,
08:26whatever it is, is poorly advising Vijay on what it takes right now, what are the papers you need,
08:32to go ahead and form a government. This is no joke. It takes certain protocol formalities to get things
08:39in place. And for some reason, the TVK is messing this up. And now.
08:43Hello.
