00:00That's right, Stock Talk on the drive with Sterner and Hughley every Wednesday, every hump day right around this time,
00:063.20 p.m.-ish.
00:09Astros are getting that ass whoop today.
00:10Tattered.
00:11No need to even fret, people. This game is over. It's in the 7th.
00:15Astros just scored their second run of the game, but it is 11-2.
00:19The Dodgers are leading the Astros today in ass whooping, so no need to put yourself through that.
00:23We're keeping you updated anyway right here on the drive.
00:25And we're talking about the Astros for stock up, stock down today.
00:30More specifically, the arms, the pitching for these Houston Astros as the woes continue.
00:35Start with you, Clint Sterner.
00:38I like getting the negatives out of the way.
00:41Let's go stock down for the pitching right now for these Houston Astros.
00:46Well, it's easy for me. Well, the stock down part ought to be easy.
00:49We've got to try to sift through the ashes.
00:53I'm going to go with Tatsuya M.I.
00:55It's a great one.
00:57It just keeps getting worse.
00:58And I'm trying to show grace, guys.
01:01I really am.
01:02I'm trying to just understand coming from a different country, playing in a different league,
01:07a whole different work regimens, a whole different load to manage.
01:11I'm trying to show grace.
01:14But at some point, somebody needs to explain to the guy that every time he explains what he's going through,
01:22it appears as an excuse, and it appears as super weak, and it's not ideal.
01:32And it just seems to continue to happen.
01:35I think most recently it was the pitch clock and something else that was a problem after walking five batters.
01:44The way they game plan over here compared to Japan.
01:48Yeah, which I don't necessarily disagree with that part of it.
01:52I mean, playing to a hitter's weakness instead of me as a pitcher's strength, I could see that being a
01:58difficult pill to swallow.
02:00But, man, it just comes across.
02:02So not only is he struggling in a moment where we expect him to be at least in the starting
02:06rotation,
02:06but it seems like whether it's here or in Sugar Land, when he struggles, which is damn near every outing,
02:13the explanations come across as excuses, and it's just a bad look.
02:18Stockdown, Tatsuya Imai at this point.
02:21Yeah, and there are other people tied to that stockdown, Dana Brown.
02:26By the way, he's the one on the Astros' flagship.
02:30He announced that he will be pitching in the Mariners' series.
02:33I'm about over, Dana, man.
02:35You're wondering how Dana announced.
02:36I am about over, Imai, but I'm definitely about over Dana Brown as GM of this team.
02:41All right, that's Clint Stockdown for the Astros pitching as it stands at this moment in time in the season.
02:47Over to you, Ron, the show.
02:49Stockdown for the Astros' arms.
02:50Stockdown, I'm going to go with the starter from today, and it isn't just today.
02:54Lance McCullers Jr., he is living on that first start that he had, but it has really been downhill for
03:02the most part since,
03:04including today, and now he is – they actually are citing that he left the game due to the finger
03:10issue.
03:11So it's a blister.
03:12It's real scary.
03:14It is cited that he has left the game due to the finger, not the three-run bomb that was
03:22hit.
03:23But, Ron, it makes it even worse on his behalf and Spott's behalf.
03:28If there's a legitimate – clearly there was two visits, there was a blister out there,
03:31and you leave him out there in a 3-1 ball game to give up a bomb to go 6
03:35-1 knowing that was the case.
03:36And he was repeatedly showing you that maybe he didn't have a grip or he was – everything was in
03:41the ground
03:41because his run today, two and two-thirds, four hits, six earned, three walks, four Ks, 70 pitches.
03:48He had three wild pitches that led to three runs.
03:52Literally three wild pitches that led to the first three runs.
03:55And really that's not just it, guys.
03:57Because in his last six starts, he's got 24 earned runs in 23 innings.
04:06My God.
04:07He's pitched – in his last six games, he's pitched 23 innings, and he's given up 24 earned runs.
04:14His ERA is now up to 7.41.
04:17So he has been struggling and kind of hiding just because of the frustrations with some of the other guys
04:24and some of the other dudes that have been pitching.
04:27But it has gone south for Lance here.
04:30So I'm going to go stock down for Lance McCullers, Jr.
04:34Yeah, it's also a good stock down right there.
04:36You give up three runs via three wild pitches and then a three-run jack,
04:40and those are your six runs given.
04:41That's not a good day.
04:43Lance, we're praying for you.
04:45Stock up time.
04:46You're listening to Stock Up, Stock Down right here on the drive with Sterner and Hughley
04:49every Wednesday at 3.20.
04:51Talking about the Astros pitching the arms.
04:54And if you did not know, there's an ass whooping going on at Dyken Park.
04:57Not the good kind.
04:58Dodgers up 11-2.
04:59We'll keep you updated.
05:00Back to you, Clint.
05:02Try to find some stock up for the arms for these strews.
05:06Well, you know, after talking about the stock down, it seems like there may not be much,
05:09but there's some options here.
05:10In fact, we're probably leaving the fastest riser off of both of our decisions here
05:15with old big Peter that showed out last night.
05:17I mean, that was big.
05:18Peter is a fast riser.
05:19But for me, I'm going to go with Brian Abreu.
05:21I'm going to go with Brian Abreu.
05:23I mean, and here again, because he was so bad, so unexpectedly, so early, combined with
05:31the fact that even when you get Josh Hader back, even if we find a way to be competitive
05:37in the division and win a division, even if you get a chance to sniff the playoffs, it's
05:44only going to happen if Brian Abreu is a big part of it.
05:47I mean, and so we need Brian Abreu to turn the corner, and he has not turned the corner
05:52yet, but he is damn sure starting to lean into that first corner, and so I've got his
05:58stocks up a bit on Brian Abreu right now.
06:00Yeah, three outings in a row that have been more and more productive each time out.
06:05Right.
06:05Direction.
06:05Stock up to you, Ron.
06:07Put a lid on this thing for us.
06:08I'm going to go with Spencer Arrighetti, and Spencer Arrighetti, his stock is way up right
06:13now.
06:13Again, there has to be a conversation on who in the hell watched the entire pitching staff
06:20and potential rotation members, and he didn't crack the top five to start the season.
06:25But beyond that, Clint, he is 4-0 with an ERA of 1.96 in 23 innings, and he is
06:34striking
06:36guys out, getting swings and misses.
06:38Now, he's probably, it's why the walks are probably up a little bit much, you would hope
06:42that he can take the next step of going deeper in the game.
