00:29Welcome to Alton Park for highlights of the opening round of the 2026 British Superbike
00:35Championship, a 30th anniversary season for the world's premier domestic Superbike
00:39racing season and with Kyle Ride on a Ducati this year after back-to-back titles on the
00:44Yamaha, providing much of the interest ahead of the opening race.
00:48He qualified on pole position for this one.
00:51Let's enjoy it now in the company of Steve Day and James Whitton.
00:55So many memories over the 30 years in British Superbikes, so many more to come.
01:03The number one plate on the bike of Kyle Ride, the first rider to defend the number one plate
01:07since Neil McKenzie back in the 90s.
01:11We're ready to go racing for the first time in 2026.
01:14It's eyes on the lights and away we go.
01:17So not a brilliant start from Max Cook, unfortunately, but a really good start from Brad Ray.
01:23Kyle Ride has been bumped back a couple of places.
01:26He drops to fourth.
01:27He might even drop to fifth, but Ray got off the line perfectly.
01:30Yeah, he did.
01:31Also, Scott Redding got a reasonably good launch.
01:34Down into Cascades for the first time.
01:37Joe Talbot just a little wide on entry, but they're all through it safely by the looks of
01:40things.
01:41Brad Ray, number 28 leads in the McCams Yamaha from Leon Haslam.
01:44And Storm Stacey up in third.
01:46Yeah, we expected Storm to be quick coming into this meet.
01:48He loves this place.
01:50Really gelling well with that Batham's Ducati.
01:54One or two riders keeping their powder dry over the course of this weekend so far.
01:59I want to play it safe.
02:00Just want to leave here with some solid points because it's a long championship.
02:03One or two others in the pack here who don't care one bit about that and can sense an opportunity.
02:08Exactly that.
02:09Yeah, when you get people being sort of circumspecting, looking at the long season ahead,
02:13then you get others trying to make an advantage of that.
02:16Kyle Wright's put the third now.
02:18Yeah, nice move that.
02:19Yeah.
02:19Down into his ease.
02:21The three men that on paper were listed out for the championship were the three R's,
02:26Ray, Ride and Redding.
02:27Redding at the moment in fifth place.
02:31Max Cook in sixth.
02:32Then it's Skinner, Jackson, Vickers, Talbot inside the top ten.
02:35There is Max Cook, number 30, just up behind the Hager TBM Ducati of Scott Redding.
02:40Yeah, Joe Talbot qualified seventh.
02:42It was brilliant, but he didn't get off the line.
02:43It was a terrible start for Joe.
02:46Winner of the sprint race last year, Leon Haslam in second.
02:48Last year we saw a proper battle actually between Ray and Haslam.
02:51Ride was involved in that at the stages as well.
02:56Here comes the move.
02:59And naturally, the line that you want to take, the optimum line into Old Hall, does open the door, doesn't

03:04It does leave you a little bit vulnerable, doesn't it?
03:07So that's Leon Haslam who leads through turn one with Brad Ray now in second.
03:13This group of six are already just starting to branch away a bit from Rory Skinner in seventh.
03:20Think to Ireland, bend we go.
03:21Storm Stacey now thinking about retaliating on Kyle Wright, but you're not going to do it the long way round.

03:28You never know with Storm Stacey.
03:30Yeah, anything's possible.
03:33With Storm there, of course, switching from BMW to Ducati for this year,
03:37which you would think would mean he'd be more consistent across the board over the course of the season.
03:41Yeah, one of the criticisms of the BMW is the fact that it's a bit inconsistent.
03:46It can be perfect one circuit and then you go to another.
03:48It doesn't work.
03:49Here comes Kyle Wright, slides up the inside of Brad Ray.
03:53Good move.
03:54Completely different bike to the Yamaha that he's ridden in.
03:56In the past as well.
03:58I mean, he's got that poke now, hasn't he, underneath him?
04:00Yeah, the Ducati should be a little bit quicker, but it's a different layout, different weight distribution.
04:04The way the bike works, it's completely different.
04:06He'll feel completely different.
04:07He said that the Yamaha has ridden for four years.
04:10He knew exactly what it was going to do inside and out.
04:13In some areas, the Yamaha is a little bit better, but the Ducati overall,
04:16and given it's a little bit quicker and with a bit more punch out the corners,
04:20he said you can make more mistakes and get away with it.
04:25Fastest lap of the race, the rookie, Joe Talbot, in ninth place.
04:29Unbelievable.
04:30Yeah.
04:31Hopefully, he doesn't overcook the tyres early on in this race.
04:35Here's Kyle having a look.

04:37If he's not clean, he's not going to do it.
04:39This is a big gaggle of riders all grouped together.
04:42Christian Hiddens now joined the party as well in 11th place.
04:45Here comes him in for a pile ride into turn one.
04:48That would be neat and tidy in the background there.
04:50Ray also up into third ahead of Stacey.
04:52Yeah, classic Alton Park move.
04:54Is that, like you say, the correct line, the faster line over a lap
04:57leaves you open to a little bit of a blocked pass up the inside.
05:00Ooh, Max Kirk up the inside there of Scott Redding as well,
05:03but doesn't quite manage to pull it off then.
05:05Now, side by side, he's on the grass there.
05:08Yeah, and that was nothing to do with Max.
05:11Scott ran it a bit wide after close the throttle
05:13to stop going on the grass, really.
05:18I know these are completely different to the little sort of Grand Prix bikes
05:22that Max Cooke grew up on, but they were stiff chassis as well,
05:24and I just wonder if that's played a part.
05:26Yeah, very different, but given...
05:29Yeah, there comes Brad Ray past Leon Houselam.
05:32Given that this is a completely different class,
05:34different weight and all the rest of it,
05:35they're probably as near to that as you can get in this class, I think.
05:38Now, Brad Ray, can he close the gap on Kyle Ride?
05:41He can see on lap 8 of 18, still a long way to go in this race,
05:44that Kyle's getting away here, 1.4 seconds up the road.
05:47Yeah, but I don't think Brad Ray's going to panic.
05:49One thing he said in his interview with me
05:50before this weekend started is he's learnt
05:52that you don't have to be quick every single race
05:55over a championship like this.
05:57Kyle's proved that, and he's proved it to quite a lot of the grid, I think.
05:59Yeah, absolutely.
06:00And also, Brad knows really too well from the championship last year
06:03with the huge lead that he had.
06:05The three DNFs ultimately cost him.
06:07Yeah, I said in the chat before,
06:10if you saw his stats and nobody else's from last year,
06:12you would bet everything you had
06:14on the fact you would have won the championship.
06:22No moves made at the moment.
06:24Is it going to be waiting until the last lap?
06:26Brad Ray equally wants to get through on Haslam himself.
06:28Storm Stacey might just sit back a bit
06:29and see how this unfolds.
06:33The problem for Storm is he is a really safe rider.
06:35He'll not want to upset anybody.

09:21Kyle, that was impressive.

09:24I just did what I've been doing at the test.
09:26And obviously, in practice, 33-4 was my pace.
09:30I did one a little bit quicker than that.
09:31But it was too fast for 18 laps.
09:33It was going to get tiring.
09:34So, I just set off.
09:36Terrible start.
09:38And I got to the front.
09:39The speed we was doing, 34-8.
09:42I sensed somebody wanted me to get to the front.
09:44Or, yeah.
09:46Basically, I just thought they wanted me to get to the front.
09:48And it was, I got there.
09:50And I tried to stretch the gap.
09:51Just for the sake of it being more safe at the end.
09:53I thought, if there's the three of us at the end,
09:54it's a safer race than a big train of six or seven.
09:57So, yeah.
09:57Once I got to the front, did my pace.
09:59And, yeah.
09:59My bike's been good all weekend.
10:00So, it was nice to do what I've been doing.
10:03So, new season.
10:04New bike.
10:05But same old Kyle Ride.
10:06The back-to-back champion.
10:07Showing why he has that number one plate on the Ducati.
10:11And securing pole position for race two.

10:20Kyle Ride looking red-hot in race one with the victory
10:23and the fastest lap of the race
10:25to secure pole position for race two
10:27in the company of James Whistom and Steve Day.
10:30This, a 12-lap sprint, remember.
10:33Big changes made on the Hager PBM Ducati for Scott Redding.
10:37But on pole, on the nitrous coin, nitrous competitions Ducati
10:40is the defending champion, Kyle Ride.
10:46Lights out and away we go.
10:49And, again, just like yesterday, Kyle Ride struggling a bit
10:52as the lights go out.
10:53It's Max Cook immediately on the promoter
10:55that takes the lead into World Hall
10:56ahead of Haslam and Brad Ray.
10:58I thought he made a good launch
10:59as he disappeared out of the drone shot.
11:02So, first time on the front row for Max Cook
11:04at Alton Park.
11:06Now he's got to try and keep his powder dry.
11:08Often he's had the rest of the field behind him
11:10around Cascades and up towards
11:13Island Bedwick going already.
11:14Kyle Ride looking to make moves.
11:15He said on the grid earlier
11:16that he fancies the move down into his.
11:18We'll see if that's where he tries to pick off Brad Ray
11:20on this opening lap.
11:22Oh, contact there.
11:23Redding and Storm Stacey both stay on,
11:25but that was a close one.
11:27Yeah, it did well there.
11:29Always a sort of danger going in there.
11:31You can go in two and three abreast,
11:32but you can then not get back to the apex.
11:35This is where Kyle Ride said he's strong.
11:37Out of British chicane,
11:39over the top of the hill
11:40and down towards his.
11:41He's an already, look,
11:42he's making his move on Brad Ray.
11:44He's up to third.
11:46Bit deep, actually, from Max Cook.
11:48It was a little bit deep,
11:49but when you're running at the front with his.
11:51He chucks it on the cross.
11:52No, they're through.
11:53When you're running at the front,
11:54now Max will not be settled here,
11:56I'll tell you.
11:57He'll be thinking, right, right.
11:58He'll be kind of panicking a little bit,
12:01which is why he dropped it
12:02a little bit deep into his lot.

12:13And here comes Kyle Wright.

12:23as they make their way now to Old Hall Corner.

12:28Yeah, Leon said he had a little bit of a problem
12:30going into the corners yesterday
12:31as the race wore on
12:32and the rear kind of grip went down.
12:35The bike was backing in a little bit.
12:36He couldn't alter the sort of engine braking
12:40off the bike.
12:41It just didn't work.
12:42You can actually alter that on the fly
12:44as the race goes on
12:45and the tires wear.
12:46It didn't work.
12:47It felt like that held him up a little bit.
12:49So they've made adjustments to that now.
12:52Max Cook out front
12:53set his fastest lap of the race
12:55early on yesterday.
12:56Yeah.
12:57Look, did you see the lean?
12:59I know that's a cambered corner.
13:00That's the most cambered airplane in the world.
13:02But did you see the lean angle of Max there?
13:04He's got a bike under him now
13:05but his kind of little bike upbringing
13:08come through the,
13:08like a lot of our mini bikes,
13:10motor three bikes,
13:11where it's all about mid-corner speed.
13:13Well, normally with a super bike,
13:14you can't get away with it
13:15because you can't hold the throttle
13:16with the things that hoverboard.
13:17You've got a chassis
13:18that's stiff like it is on the bermotor.
13:20Then it allows you to do that a bit more.
13:24Yeah, we've not seen this from Max
13:25in super bikes
13:26all through the feeder classes.
13:28This is our Max road to victory.
13:30Exactly.
13:30Same style.
13:31He's back to his own style.
13:32He is.
13:32And it's working very well.
13:33Further back through the pack,

13:47has closed the gap to Max Cook out front.
13:49Yeah, if you look at the speed at times,
13:50the fastest part of the track
13:51going into Island Bend
13:53at the Cascades,
13:55you'll see that both the motors
13:56have been amongst the quickest
13:58the whole weekend.
13:59And the reason for that
14:00is not about where he comes.
14:02Kyle again,
14:03and that should work,
14:04but you never know
14:04with Mr. Haslam, do you?
14:06Yeah, he never knows
14:06when he's beaten, does he?

14:10But he's not going to be able
14:11to retaliate down into Cascades.
14:13Right, so coming out of Cascades
14:14and on this bottom straight
14:15in towards Island,
14:16the fastest part of the track,
14:17that's where the speed trap is.
14:18The Bermotor's been
14:19amongst the quickest
14:20every single session
14:21this weekend.
14:22And the reason is not
14:23because of the power of the engine.
14:24It's a powerful engine,
14:25not quite as powerful
14:26as the Dicati.
14:27However,
14:28it's because they reckon
14:29between the wings
14:30and the chassis,
14:30you're able to accelerate
14:32better out of Cascades
14:34and that's what makes a difference.
14:35Yeah, well,
14:35he's now got to try
14:36and defend from Kyle Ride
14:38and this is going to be key
14:39on this lap
14:39through Britain's,
14:41the number one
14:41in second place,
14:42Kyle Ride.
14:43But Max doesn't need
14:45to defend.
14:46Max, if it's a clean pass,
14:47which with Kyle
14:48it definitely will be,
14:49he just needs to learn
14:51and follow.

15:23could easily dust each other up
15:24and allow Kyle to get away.
