00:15Well, I heard at the fair that, uh, she overdosed on heroin.
00:21Sheila just was like, well, I had sex with Dylan Conaway.
00:25I was like, why would you do that?
00:27Why?
00:31Sheila said, Skylar was mad at me.
00:34Do you think maybe Skylar would have hung out with Dylan to make me jealous, to spite me?
00:43We thought we'd start interviewing these people that are being brought up in these rumors.
00:48We kept getting the name Derek Conaway, and we decided, well, let's go talk to him.
00:55Derek Conaway's criminal background, he had a very large rap sheet.
01:00Drug use, and, um, one domestic battery charge.
01:06This guy's dangerous.
01:09He saw us pull up.
01:11We got out of the car.
01:11He was, uh, out in the backyard shoveling something.
01:15And we told him, you know, hey, we're state police looking in, you know, to the bank robbery.
01:22And, uh, this kid was eyes wide open, breathing hard, like, scared to death.
01:30Ronnie, he goes, why are you so sweaty and breathing so hard?
01:33Are you trying to bury a body?
01:36And he stopped, and the way his reaction was, you would have thought he saw a ghost.
01:42Ronnie said, do you have any weapons in the house?
01:45And he goes, what type of weapon?
01:47We got a revolver.
01:50It looked similar to the one that we saw in the video of the bank robbery.
01:55We got a search warrant, and we found a lot of drugs, heroin.
02:01There was videos in there of parties revealing pictures of girls on the couch.
02:07It looked like they were under the influence, obviously, of a drug or alcohol, but to the point of passing
02:13out.
02:14And it was just kind of weird, um, creepy in a way.
02:19With the girls already, um, tied in with the Conaways,
02:24Ronnie and I were thinking, what are you doing?
02:27You're in danger, and you don't know what he could do to you.
03:02We didn't know what was happening with Scholar or the investigation.
03:08You have that sense of loneliness, but you can't, you can't grieve.
03:15You can't hope for the best, because then you might be delaying the inevitable.
03:20So you're just kind of stuck.
03:22You're in limbo of, there's no way to react yet.
03:29It was rough going back to school without Scholar.
03:32And, um, you couldn't turn around a corner without feeling it,
03:37because there was a missing poster in your face.
03:47Skylar was a good student, and she cared about her grades.
03:50And so the hope was that she would show up for the first day of school.
03:55And when she wasn't there, everyone kind of was like, that's not good.
04:05Rachel and Sheila stopped talking to a lot of people.
04:08They had their schedules changed so that they could be in the same classes with each other.
04:15It literally felt like they did not leave each other's side, like, the entire school day.
04:20Before my dining heart
04:27Before my dining heart
04:33Before my dining heart
04:48I was in a class with Rachel.
04:51We were in our English class.
04:53It was probably like sixth or seventh period.
04:57It was a very quiet class.
04:59We were just sitting around.
05:01Everyone was sitting around, hanging out, not saying much.
05:04And we saw cops come into school.
05:08They pulled Rachel and Sheila out of class.
05:12I just heard, like, in the hallway,
05:14Sheila and Rachel are getting annoyed by the FBI.
05:17Are they going to ask everyone?
05:21It was scary.
05:24I did feel for Rachel and Sheila.
05:28We thought they know something happened,
05:30and they're scared to tell law enforcement.
05:34And we served the search warrant on them,
05:37and we collected their phones.
05:39We needed to get them at the same time
05:42so they wouldn't be able to erase anything.
05:46Our next step is to go through the text messages,
05:50pictures, and videos
05:51to see were they holding back on anything.
05:55They would message each other about anything and everything.
05:58It was nonstop, constant text messages.
06:02But it was a surprise.
06:04When we found images and videos,
06:07you know, close off,
06:08and you could see instances of sexual relations
06:14between Rachel and Sheila.
06:18They were obviously intoxicated.
06:20There was one of them on the couch,
06:22nothing bad about it,
06:24but they're on the couch banking out
06:25and feeling each other.
06:26There was definitely, like, sexual acts being done.
06:30And then that made me think,
06:32is there more there?
06:33Is it more than just friendship?
06:36Or was it just 16-year-old girls
06:39that were experimenting with each other?
06:42You know, so it was kind of hard to tell.
06:45And it could have been an incident of embarrassment for them
06:49because they both had boyfriends.
06:53Ultimately, we thought maybe that's just not something
06:56that, like, we bring up.
06:58It's none of our business.
06:59It doesn't matter.
07:01That's not what we were looking for.
07:02And it has nothing to do with Skylar.
07:10But then we started getting somewhere.
07:14We found a private message,
07:17and it was on July 6th at 12.30, 12.15 in the morning,
07:23the day Skylar went missing.
07:27Sheila direct messaged to one of the brothers
07:29that we were looking after the bank robbery,
07:33asking if we can buy drugs from you tonight.
07:40It really kind of felt we were headed in the right direction
07:43just because everything was kind of starting to make sense
07:49when nothing was making sense before that.
07:52There was another message, private social media message,
07:57from another user to Sheila Eddy.
08:04And then put initials, which matched one of the brothers.
08:09But we could not verify who the user was.
08:12But that individual definitely had an idea
08:15on what the countaways were into
08:17and what happened at the party.
08:21We said, we know you had these teenage parties.
08:23We're not saying you're in trouble.
08:25We just need to know where Skylar's at.
08:26That's the main focus.
08:28And Rachel goes, why are you guys keeping looking into this?
08:33She told me nothing's changed since Skylar's been missing
08:37and that Sheila and her has told me the same story.
08:42We needed more.
08:45So Star City Police obtained additional search warrants.
08:50And that same day,
08:52we went to the Rachel Schoaf residence.
08:55The scope of our search warrant covered only the electronics.
09:00But as we went through Rachel's bedroom,
09:02I came across her journal.
09:04And she had made an entry the day that Skylar was missing.
09:11Lord, I want to tell you how terribly sorry I am
09:14for doing wrong towards you lately.
09:18I need to ask for your forgiveness once again, Lord.
09:22I love you so much.
09:25I know that you can't do whatever you want
09:28and think it's okay to just come running back.
09:30But I'm sorry.
09:32Amen.
09:55Every morning, me and Skylar,
09:58we rode the school bus together.
10:03It was nice because we would just share headphones
10:06and listen to music on the way to school.
10:13We listened to anything that was popular at the time, probably.
10:19So we bonded over music and things.
10:26The bus would get to school
10:28and everyone would just kind of, like, hang out in the cafeteria
10:32until the first bell would ring
10:34and it was time to go to class.
10:36There was one morning.
10:38Skylar was not there.
10:39Rachel was on the phone with Sheila
10:40and they had contacted Skylar without Skylar knowing
10:44that it was a three-way conversation,
10:46trying to get her to say something
10:48to, you know, kind of, like, incriminate the friendship.
10:52It was just, like, a very mean girl situation.
10:58It felt kind of like bullying.
11:01So the next day when we were on our way to school on the bus,
11:04I told Skylar that, hey, you know,
11:07they were both on that conversation with you
11:09and you didn't know it.
11:10And, you know, she was upset
11:12and said that she was going to talk to them
11:13and confront them.
11:15That's just who Skylar was.
11:17She wasn't scared to stand up for herself,
11:19so she really went for it.
11:21And you guys wonder why I don't trust the shit you say.
11:26I'm not trying to replace you.
11:29You guys have the most unbreakable friendship.
11:32I envy your relationship
11:34and I would never try to do that to you.
11:36I love you both equally
11:38and I hope this doesn't ruin our friendship
11:40because I would never do anything to risk it.
11:44From then, I really started to see them arguing a lot.
11:47You could definitely see the progression
11:50of Skylar slowly being, like, pushed out of the friend group.
11:54It would upset her.
11:56You would see, like, tweets
11:57or a Facebook post about it.
12:01You're a two-faced bitch
12:02and obviously fucking stupid
12:05if you thought I wouldn't find out.
12:08But it felt like they were
12:10very keen to put their feelings into social media
12:13and let it be known there
12:14rather than in public.
12:17I just don't understand
12:18what the fuck I ever did
12:20to deserve shit like this.
12:32The Conaway brothers,
12:33they were into, like, harder drugs.
12:41And most of us, we just smoked weed
12:43and, you know, drank and stuff.
12:45So there was a select crowd
12:48that would do partying at his house
12:51that were more into doing pills
12:53and things like that.
12:57The rumor was that there was, you know,
13:00this party at Dylan Conaway's house
13:02and, I don't know,
13:05they all did too many drugs
13:07and Skylar did something
13:10and she OD'd
13:12and they, like, just disposed of the body somewhere.
13:24They did pills a couple of times
13:26and that she went through a bad stage
13:28with them at one point.
13:29I don't know that for a fact.
13:31It's just what Sheila and them told me.
13:35So, I'm thinking that they were starting
13:38to move over to the harder drug side.
13:42Sheila said they would mix drugs
13:43and alcohol together
13:44or they would drive drunk or drive high.
13:48Stuff like that.
13:50The rumor was
13:51they apparently had heard something
13:54about that Conaways had ditched her in a mine.
13:57She ran off with somebody.
13:59I mean, they told me
14:01all these different kinds of things.
14:04Derek Conaway became
14:06a person of interest for us.
14:08So, law enforcement developed this theory
14:10that the bank robbery money
14:12was used to purchase drugs.
14:16There was a teenage party.
14:19Skylar was present at the party.
14:21Drugs were supplied to her.
14:23She overdosed on that.
14:26I suspect the bank robbery guys,
14:28they got scared.
14:29They dumped her body in the mine shaft.
14:35So, there's a lot of mine shafts
14:37in the Blacksville area
14:37with the coal mines.
14:39We checked six different mine shafts.
14:42We couldn't find anything.
14:44We would try to locate
14:46the source of those rumors.
14:47So, we'd get a name.
14:49They heard it from another person.
14:50So, we never knew
14:51who was the primary source
14:53of the rumors.
14:54We felt there wasn't enough evidence
14:57to formally charge Derek Conaway,
14:59but all in all,
15:00the case was just circumstantial.
15:04My mind was like spinning
15:06a hundred miles an hour.
15:07It's like,
15:07is there anything we didn't cover?
15:08Is there something
15:09we need to go back on?
15:11What can we do next?
15:27Oh my God, you know what?
15:29I need to tell you a secret.
15:30I just forgot.
15:31You have a secret from me?
15:33Well, I mean,
15:34I've never told,
15:34I haven't told anyone.
15:35Not even Spala?
15:36No.
15:37Okay.
15:40So, I woke up
15:42and Sheila hadn't called.
15:45Turns out her and Rachel
15:46went to the mall.
15:49They couldn't get a hold of me.
15:53I find that so hard to believe.
15:56It killed me.
15:59I feel left out
16:01and unwanted.
16:08One night she came home
16:10after she was working
16:11and she was just
16:13boo-hooing very loud.
16:16So, I went in
16:17and I said,
16:17good Lord, what's wrong?
16:19I didn't know
16:20if something had happened
16:21or what
16:22and she wouldn't talk to me.
16:24She'd just get out,
16:26leave me alone
16:27and whatever was going on,
16:30it definitely devastated her.
16:34Twitter.
16:35It was like
16:35an online diary
16:36for her.
16:38Scott started posting
16:40more open,
16:41like,
16:42things towards
16:43Rachel, Sheila,
16:44the friendship,
16:45the dynamic.
16:46Fucking liar!
16:47You'll regret it.
16:47Trust me.
16:48There's no way in hell
16:49I will ever let someone
16:50Why does Sheila do this?
16:52You would see
16:53more and more,
16:54like, tweets
16:54about each other.
16:55Last time, Sheila!
16:57Hate you!
16:57Hate you!
16:58Hate you!
17:01Sheila and I
17:01have been arguing
17:03This hurts so much.
17:06It sucks her not caring
17:07when I care so much
17:09about her.
17:11I'm done with that
17:12being a one-way street,
17:13so I've been crying
17:14for the past while.
17:20Why aren't you
17:21fucking replying?
17:27I tell the whole school
17:28all the shit
17:29that I have on everyone,
17:30which is a lot.
17:32I tell the whole school
17:49that I have on everyone,
17:59musicals together and stuff.
18:01We had a lot of lines together
18:04and we were in the auditorium.
18:06Oh, damn it!
18:07Rachel was having
18:08kind of like a breakdown
18:08and she freaked out.
18:10Oh, my fucking God!
18:11What is going on?
18:12And her mom was there.
18:14She got really angry
18:16and told her to get
18:17her shit together.
18:18In front of the whole theater,
18:20there was at least like,
18:21I think there was like
18:2220 of us in the play.
18:25Your kids having a breakdown,
18:27your first instinct
18:28would be to console them,
18:30not yelling and screaming.
18:32That's what made her mom
18:33so intimidating.
18:36It was just shocking.
18:38Rachel had told me stories
18:40to where things would get
18:41a little physical
18:42during fights with her mother.
18:44She would come to school
18:46all the time telling me,
18:47oh, we got in a fight,
18:49you know, stuff like that.
18:50So I felt bad for her.
18:53I remember Rachel
18:55freaking out and crying.
18:56She was really wild.
18:59I really don't know
19:01how to explain it.
19:02It felt like she had
19:03a darker energy to her.
19:08At that point,
19:09I knew something
19:09was really, really wrong.
19:12You really started to wonder
19:14if Rachel and Sheila
19:17knew more than what
19:19they were leading on.
19:21It was really good and crazy.
19:24There was so much posting online,
19:26like Instagram, Facebook.
19:28There were Twitter posts
19:30with gossip about
19:32Rachel and Sheila.
19:34I started to, like,
19:36kind of put my own thoughts
19:39or feelings
19:39or theory together
19:42that those brothers
19:44could have had something
19:45to do with everything
19:46and that Rachel and Sheila
19:49knew something.
19:51Oh, my God, I have to go to singing.
19:53Oh, my God, I have to go to singing.
19:556.30.
19:56That's when I have to go to singing
19:58and do a dance
20:00and do a song.
20:01Two songs.
20:02So then why?
20:03I can't sing when I'm lying.
20:06You've heard me.
20:07So Sheila could get you
20:09to do things
20:10that you normally
20:11wouldn't want to do.
20:13She was pretty good at it.
20:15I thought maybe
20:17something bad had happened
20:18that night
20:19and Rachel and Sheila
20:21were just scared
20:22to get in trouble
20:23because they knew
20:25that it happened
20:26and everything,
20:27but they didn't do
20:27anything about it.
20:31So one night
20:33at play practice,
20:35I mean, I confronted her.
20:40I remember that exact day
20:42because Rachel and I
20:43planned matching outfits.
20:45We were wearing white pants
20:47and blue shirts.
20:50I was standing right with Rachel.
20:53I remember Daniel standing up
20:55and he decided
20:56to make an uprising
20:57in class.
20:58I told Rachel
20:59that maybe she should go
21:02and talk to the cops
21:03and just tell them
21:04what they know
21:04because obviously
21:05they're still questioning her.
21:07But she freaked out.
21:11Rachel had like a meltdown.
21:14Like, just like
21:15started freaking out,
21:17like screaming at people
21:19and just like losing it.
21:23It got really crazy.
21:26She was like sitting
21:27over there crying and stuff
21:28and I was like,
21:29Rachel, why don't you
21:29just go talk to the police?
21:31Like, go end everything.
21:34There's a huge fight
21:35in half the classes,
21:37like on his side,
21:39half the classes
21:39on Rachel's side
21:40and it becomes
21:41this huge controversy
21:42and the teacher's
21:43not even in the room.
21:44And finally,
21:45the teacher shows up
21:46and he's like,
21:46stop.
21:50He yelled at me
21:51saying that they're
21:52already going through
21:52enough.
21:54Maybe you shouldn't
21:55lay more on them
21:56right now.
21:57It was very controversial
21:59in school.
22:00It really, really was.
22:02It was definitely
22:03on Rachel's side.
22:06And Rachel's crying,
22:07you know,
22:08you know,
22:09why would he think
22:09that I'm,
22:10you know,
22:11I'm a victim here.
22:15It was very bizarre.
22:19People were
22:20getting suspicious.
22:23They knew
22:24more than they
22:26were saying.
22:29I felt like
22:31I was trying
22:32to do the right thing.
22:34Oh, man.
22:35I,
22:36that had to be
22:36a brutal few months
22:38for her.
22:39Like,
22:40her best friend's
22:41gone.
22:43The school
22:44was basically
22:45at war.
22:46You had the people
22:48that were
22:48team
22:49Rachel and Sheila,
22:51then you had
22:52team Skylar.
22:53People were arguing,
22:55like in the hallways
22:56at the cafeteria.
22:57It was like,
22:58why aren't you
22:59saying anything?
23:01So,
23:02it was like
23:03clashing
23:04all the time.
23:08I felt bad
23:09for Rachel.
23:10I wanted to be
23:11there for her
23:12and comfort her
23:12and do whatever
23:13I could
23:14to make her
23:14feel better
23:15about the situation.
23:16She was really
23:17seemed upset.
23:46when we asked
23:47Sheila and Rachel
23:48questions about
23:49Skylar's disappearance,
23:51the information
23:51that we were getting
23:52was fragmented,
23:54not true,
23:55completely changing.
23:57obviously that was
23:58one of the Achilles heels
23:59of the investigation,
24:00so how could we
24:01mitigate that
24:02from continuing
24:03to happen?
24:05If the girls
24:06had nothing to hide,
24:07surely they would
24:08not object
24:08to a polygraph examination.
24:11Sheila's her best friend
24:13and we talked
24:15to the police
24:15and they told them
24:16to leave Sheila alone.
24:17I said,
24:18Sheila is hurting
24:19as bad as we are.
24:21Will you please
24:22leave that kid alone?
24:23She's told you
24:24everything she knows.
24:50In 2012,
24:51I was assigned
24:52to the Pittsburgh
24:53Division of the FBI
24:54as their
24:55polygraph examiner.
24:58I like talking
24:59to people
24:59and I really like
25:00helping move
25:02cases forward.
25:04My niche really was
25:06people seem like
25:07they like talking
25:08to me
25:08and I really enjoy
25:09talking with them.
25:11Ronnie is there
25:12and we just
25:13have a discussion.
25:15When she was asked,
25:16was that your car
25:18in the video
25:19picking up Skylar?
25:20she finally said,
25:22yes.
25:23It confirmed
25:24what we believed.
25:27That was Sheila's
25:28car in the video.
25:29They were the ones
25:30that picked her up
25:31at 12.32 a.m.
25:32on July 6th.
25:33There isn't
25:34a second person.
25:36So then it's like,
25:38okay,
25:40what happened?
25:42when she was asked,
25:43are you withholding
25:44information from police?
25:46She said,
25:47no.
25:49Of course,
25:49I see her physiology
25:50on my polygraph,
25:52on my laptop.
25:54I go out of the room
25:56and I'll talk
25:57to the state police
25:59and the agents
26:00that are in another room
26:01listening
26:02and I say,
26:03yeah,
26:03she failed that test.
26:05So I go back in
26:07and I say,
26:08hey,
26:08Sheila,
26:09you didn't pass this test
26:10and we have to figure out
26:11what happened.
26:13The best person
26:14for her right now
26:15might be her mom.
26:16So I remember going out
26:18and having a conversation
26:20with Sheila's mom
26:21and saying,
26:22there's something
26:23she's not telling us
26:24and we're really
26:25at that point
26:25where we have to get
26:26to the bottom of this.
26:27Can you go
26:27just talk with her?
26:30The mom was stoic
26:32and they had
26:33a conversation privately.
26:36Sheila comes back
26:38and then that's when
26:39she tells the story of,
26:41oh,
26:41we both didn't go home.
26:43We both went out
26:43to Blacksville.
26:49Sheila said,
26:50when we were out there,
26:52Skylar wanted to go
26:53to the boy's house
26:55to party
26:55and then she left the car
26:57and ran away
26:58from the car.
27:01We looked for her
27:02for 30 to 45 minutes.
27:06We couldn't find her.
27:08So then we had
27:09to drive home.
27:10That's when Rachel
27:11lost her phone.
27:13And then Sheila went back
27:14and grabbed the phone
27:15the next day.
27:16So it would explain
27:18what is bringing them
27:20out to Blacksville
27:21that morning
27:22on July 6th.
27:23And that's why
27:24the phones were
27:24pinging at 4 a.m.
27:26when Sheila went
27:26to go get her phone back.
27:29It would put your head
27:30through the cycle
27:31of being like,
27:31what's true?
27:32What's not?
27:34Towards the end
27:35of her statement,
27:36she made kind of
27:38a big deal
27:39about how Skylar
27:40became belligerent
27:41with them
27:41and got really upset
27:42and demanded
27:43to get out of the car.
27:44And they were really
27:45shocked and surprised
27:45at her acting this way.
27:47And there's a principle
27:49in Detection of Deception
27:50where are people
27:51trying to convince you
27:52of something
27:53or are they trying
27:54to convey information
27:55to you?
27:55So when you're reading this,
27:57you're like,
27:57this just seems off
27:58a little bit.
28:01And I remember shaking
28:02my head and I'm saying,
28:04Sheila, I'm really sorry.
28:05I go, I do not believe you.
28:07And I remember her distinctly
28:09taking her fingernails,
28:11putting them into the top
28:13of the mahogany table
28:14and scraping them down
28:16out of frustration
28:18that we're not believing her.
28:20But that's when you really
28:22see this personality of her,
28:23this very defiant young girl
28:25coming out.
28:28Sheila is not telling us
28:30the truth
28:30and we have to get
28:31to the bottom of this
28:32and now we're going
28:33to have to go
28:33talk to Rachel.
28:52After reading Rachel's journal,
28:54we were confident
28:55that she was,
28:56you could say,
28:57the weakest link.
28:59We felt that she was
29:00more likely to talk
29:02and break.
29:05So we decided
29:06to get Rachel back in
29:07for another interview.
29:09Did you tell
29:10she was visibly nervous?
29:13Unlike Sheila,
29:14who's always calm.
29:17This is when Rachel told us,
29:19Sheila doesn't know
29:20I'm telling you this.
29:22Oh, we were out in Blacksville
29:24and we were smoking weed.
29:30And Skylar was adamant
29:32that she wanted to go
29:34to the brother's house.
29:37So they actually went
29:38to the brother's house
29:39and they drove there
29:40and Skylar got out
29:41of the car,
29:45went up to the front door.
29:47One of the vehicles
29:47was in the driveway
29:48and the door opened
29:50and there was a silhouette
29:51of like maybe a tall guy
29:53or whatever
29:53and let Skylar in.
29:57And then Sheila
29:58and Rachel drove home
30:02and never heard
30:03from their friend again.
30:07We were kept on going
30:09down these rabbit holes
30:10so it felt like
30:11they were covering
30:11for someone.
30:13So it was like a reset
30:16every single time
30:17that we talked to them
30:19because we would get
30:20new information.
30:36Rachel would tell me
30:37kind of a lot
30:38about what went on
30:39in their little trio.
30:42They fought a lot.
30:45I was kind of an outlet
30:47of a third person
30:48that she could tell somebody
30:50that wouldn't tell
30:51anybody else.
30:54I don't know exactly
30:55when it could have started
30:56but Rachel was obsessed
30:58with Sheila
30:58and Sheila was obsessed
31:00with Rachel back.
31:02They were very close.
31:04It was like a different level
31:05of something else.
31:07You could tell
31:08in little ways
31:09of the way they talked
31:10to each other
31:10and it made Skylar
31:12very uncomfortable
31:13in a lot of situations.
31:17There was one situation
31:18I guess where
31:19they all were just
31:20hanging out
31:20drinking one night
31:23and I think that
31:25Rachel and Sheila
31:27had Skylar videotaped
31:29them sleeping together.
31:35Tuesday was the
31:36back to school bash
31:38and after Sheila
31:39and I went to Rachel's
31:40we snuck some vodka
31:42and got pretty drunk
31:43and crazy.
31:45Sheila and Rachel
31:46ended up doing
31:47all girls can do
31:49with each other.
31:52It's her first time
31:53having cameras
31:54in her phones.
31:55They just started
31:55to do their own thing
31:56and they wanted
31:57to get it videotaped.
32:00But Skylar
32:01on the other hand
32:02had hardly ever kissed
32:03somebody in her life
32:05and it really made her upset.
32:07I can't imagine
32:08how she felt
32:09holding that camera.
32:11The night ended
32:12with me and Sheila
32:13fighting.
32:14She always favors
32:16the other person
32:17when we're with people
32:18and it was the second time
32:20she made me cry
32:21that night.
32:21We started screaming
32:23at each other
32:24and Rachel's
32:25psycho mom came down.
32:28After that night
32:29there seemed to be
32:31a lot of issues
32:32to be honest.
32:33It was a big deal.
32:35They were frustrated.
32:36with Skylar.
32:38I tell the whole school
32:40all the shit
32:41I have on everyone
32:43which is a lot.
32:48I do remember
32:49Rachel coming up
32:50to me at my locker
32:51just telling me
32:52how annoyed she was
32:53with Skylar
32:54and how she wished
32:55that she wasn't there.
32:58She really didn't want
33:00me to tell anybody.
33:04Lord, forgive me.
33:06For I am lustful
33:08and I am a sinner.
33:11I consciously turn away
33:12from you, Lord
33:13and I do not mean to.
33:18I know that I am a sinner
33:19and I am sorry.
33:26I knew that she was
33:28hanging out
33:30sexually with Sheila.
33:32I just thought
33:32it was exploring,
33:34having fun.
33:35You know,
33:35that's really what I thought.
33:37I said,
33:37hey, do your own thing.
33:39It's fine.
33:45I never heard of a video
33:46of, you know,
33:48Rachel and Sheila
33:50in any sexual manner.
33:53Frankly,
33:55I feel like
33:56that would have been
33:57something that would have
33:58spread like wildfire.
34:02I never saw
34:03anything
34:04that would have, like,
34:08made me think
34:09that they were
34:10having some kind
34:11of secret relationship.
34:14Rachel,
34:15she usually always
34:16had a relationship
34:17with a boy
34:17and if she
34:20did identify
34:21as gay,
34:22she never told
34:23anybody.
34:25I feel like
34:27at our high school,
34:28it wasn't, like,
34:29abnormal
34:29to be in a
34:31same-sex relationship,
34:32but depending
34:33on your family,
34:35it could be.
34:38Especially because
34:39of her family.
34:40Like,
34:41her parents
34:42were very strict.
34:43Her family
34:44was really religious.
34:46She was Catholic.
34:48And, um,
34:50I'm not sure
34:50why they would
34:51have accepted her.
35:14The longer it goes
35:16and as it gets
35:17closer to, like,
35:18holidays and stuff,
35:19you're like,
35:19it's something's
35:20not right.
35:24As it got
35:25closer to Christmas,
35:26you know,
35:26it just felt
35:27more, like,
35:28surreal
35:28that Skylar
35:29was gone.
35:34Mary and I
35:34both were
35:35feeling helpless.
35:38That six months
35:39was hell.
35:41and I didn't have
35:44any more ideas.
35:45They had all
35:45exhausted.
35:46I mean,
35:47everything I had
35:48hoped for
35:49fell through.
35:52It's tough
35:53to think about
35:54Dave and Mary
35:56not having
35:57their daughter
35:58there with them.
36:00Mommy,
36:00go hide your eyes.
36:02Skylar,
36:03where'd you go to?
36:04She under the tree.
36:08Skylar loved Christmas.
36:10I'm going to see.
36:14We would
36:15while it all stops.
36:18Is that a sleeping bag?
36:21It's a Barbie
36:22sleeping bag.
36:24It's a Barbie
36:25sleeping bag.
36:27Cool.
36:29Barbies.
36:30Oh,
36:31she loved
36:31Barbies.
36:32No,
36:33but it's beautiful.
36:34That's Barbie horse.
36:36Yes,
36:36it is.
36:37Wow.
36:37It's a flying horse.
36:39Wow.
36:40Wow.
36:41What do you think
36:42me?
36:43I don't know.
36:44Christmas came
36:45and went.
36:46No,
36:47Skylar.
36:47I went to the
36:48state police barracks
36:49and the poor girl
36:51behind the counter
36:51knew me
36:52because I was up
36:53there all the time
36:53and I was crying.
36:56I was pissed off.
36:57Dave came to our office
36:59very upset
37:00that we didn't
37:01have answers
37:01and,
37:02you know,
37:03I definitely wanted
37:04to give them answers.
37:05I just didn't have any.
37:07Patience was running thin,
37:08you know,
37:09for their daughter
37:10being missing
37:11and I was right there
37:12with them.
37:14The biggest fear
37:15I had was
37:15never learning
37:16the truth.
37:18It really took a toll
37:20on all the investigators.
37:22It's been months now
37:24and we didn't know
37:26what was the truth.
37:28Someone's protecting someone
37:29and Sheila's lying.
37:31So we asked Rachel,
37:34would you be willing
37:34to take a polygraph?
37:37And she said,
37:39yes.
37:43The next day,
37:45Rachel was
37:46on her way
37:48to the Morgantown
37:49State Police Detachment
37:51to participate
37:52in the polygraph.
37:56I was extremely confident,
37:59excited,
38:00a little bit anxious,
38:01but, like,
38:02I thought today was the day
38:03because she was actually
38:04going to say
38:05what happened.
38:07We might not find
38:09Skylar today,
38:09but we're going to find out
38:11today what happened to her.
38:14So,
38:15as
38:16we're getting
38:17to the time
38:18where she's supposed
38:18to arrive
38:19at the State Police Detachment,
38:21she's late
38:22and she's not there.
38:24And 20 minutes
38:24goes by
38:25and I get
38:26a phone call.
38:29It was her
38:30defense attorney
38:31called me
38:32and said,
38:34Rachel's missing.
38:37What are you talking
38:38about?
38:38Rachel's missing.
38:39And he's like,
38:40we can't find Rachel.
38:42So we were just
38:42kind of looking
38:43at each other,
38:43like,
38:46where did she go?
38:49What is going on here?
38:52He said to me
38:53that Rachel
38:54jumped out of the car
38:54and I couldn't believe it.
38:57I asked him,
38:57you know,
38:58what do you mean?
38:59And he goes,
39:00we got to a stop
39:01and Rachel jumped
39:02out of the car
39:03and we're trying
39:04to find her.
39:04She's missing.
39:09Okay,
39:09Long County 911,
39:10do you have an emergency?
39:11I have an issue
39:12with a 16-year-old
39:13daughter of mine.
39:14I can't control her anymore.
39:15She's screaming.
39:16She's running
39:16to the neighborhood.
39:17Give me the phone.
39:18No,
39:19this is over.
39:20Hurry up.
39:38Rachel had a mental breakdown
39:40and was committed
39:42to a hospital
39:42for evaluation.
39:45Then Rachel's attorney
39:46calls.
39:48We were told
39:50Rachel's ready to talk.
39:55Rachel's ready to talk.
40:31Rachel's ready to talk.
