00:04I had the great idea of maybe we should throw a party.
00:08It would be nice to get everyone to come over and celebrate with us once the house is finished.
00:16I'm currently in hospital waiting for the prognosis.
00:19A double break in the leg is extremely serious.
00:25My dad has come over for a working holiday.
00:31Chaz has definitely pulled it out of the bag.
00:34Shall we?
00:38It is so cool.
00:44That inflammation is not good.
00:47Not just the normal swelling that you would expect from a broken leg.
00:51The tiles have just arrived and they don't look the right colour to me.
01:01You're just cutting the snail bottom off, aren't you?
01:04Being in a vegan house, you can't be chopping off the animal's heads.
01:10Can I go in?
01:11Let's go in and I can't wait to see what you think.
01:15Oh!
01:19I love it.
01:21I want to swap bedrooms with her.
01:31It's been seven weeks since John's accident.
01:35And he's now able to move around a bit more.
01:40While builder Carlos hasn't been well, he and his team have been doing little bits in the family bathroom.
01:47And having done a great job in Albion's bedroom, Jasmine's dad, Peter, is now cracking on with joys.
01:54Despite the hiatus John's leg break has caused, it's time to face the challenge and get this build back on
02:01track.
02:03We've had some serious delays.
02:06And I think it really jeopardises the chances of us having everything finished by this summer.
02:13Because at the moment we are hugely behind schedule.
02:23Martin, do you want a coffee?
02:27Carlos, no.
02:28No, for Carlos, yes, for Martin.
02:34With milk or Americano?
02:39Americano.
02:42I was going to bring them a bit of chocolate eclair, but I can't actually carry them either.
02:46I'll carry it.
02:48John's leg is doing really well.
02:51I mean, it's still quite swollen, but he's able to get around much more.
02:58You know, he's not confined to the bed anymore, which is actually a big, big thing for him.
03:06You have to keep the workmen happy.
03:10Keep the troops fed.
03:12It's so nice now that he can get up and get into the kitchen again, because I've definitely missed his
03:18cooking.
03:20The thing I can't actually get upstairs to do any work with Jaz's dad.
03:23The least I can do is make him a sandwich while I'm hobbling on my crutches.
03:29That's true.
03:33Ridiculous dog.
03:34You know, a lot of love goes into John's cooking, and he's also a very visual person, so he always
03:40has a beautiful presentation.
03:42It's a cheese and cucumber sandwich for Jaz's dad.
03:47You can take the decorator out of England, but you can't take England out of the decorator.
03:52Thank you very much.
03:53There you go.
03:55Refueled and refreshed, it's back to work.
04:01This is Joy's room, and the paper is going on this wall behind me.
04:06Of course, we've got the problem of the air conditioning, which is kaput anyway.
04:11I've got it this far off the wall.
04:12It's not connected to any electric, you'll be glad to know.
04:15But now I've found a metal pipe inside there, which has got to be cut or something,
04:20because otherwise it's never going to come off the wall.
04:21I'm not familiar with these things.
04:23We don't need them.
04:25It's too cold where we are to have an air con.
04:28Is that any good?
04:29I hope you don't know.
04:32God, it is all a mess, isn't it?
04:35Have a look.
04:37Do you want me to hold on to it rather than drop down?
04:42That's Joy's bedroom in safe hands.
04:50When John first broke his leg playing paddle, doctors advised eight weeks of bed rest.
04:56Now, with that milestone in sight, he and Jasmine are heading to the hospital for a checkup.
05:02The leg at this point, I think, feels much better than I thought it would.
05:06So I'm hoping the specialist tells me everything's on track.
05:10I think if the consultation doesn't go to plan, I'll be super disappointed.
05:14I think seven weeks in, I'm desperate to be of more use to jazz and to the kids and the
05:18renovation.
05:20Hola, how are you?
05:22How do you feel?
05:23Good, how are you?
05:25I am almost certain that the doctor's going to say he's made amazing progress because I can just see it
05:30in the way he's able to move and get around.
05:33So, fingers crossed, he'll be back on track because, to be honest with you, I need his help.
05:41I've been struggling to keep my head above water, keeping, you know, with work, with looking after the kids, with
05:48the pets, with the renovation.
05:53You have a lot of inflammation here, okay? What happened on morning?
05:57What happened this morning?
05:59Yes, when you wake up, the inflammation is in your leg? No.
06:04No.
06:05No.
06:05Yesterday and Saturday, I did quite a lot of walking.
06:10Okay, because it's important in rest, when appear the inflammation in your leg, okay?
06:17Okay.
06:18Put your leg in up, okay? And move your ankle, okay?
06:23Right.
06:23Because that inflammation is not good.
06:27It's not good.
06:28Okay, lay down. Lay down a minute.
06:31I'll give you an echography, okay? Because it's probably, with that kind of inflammation, you have a thrombosis, okay?
07:10Okay.
07:10Okay.
07:10Down your, your leg, to come here, okay?
07:14Oh, until I see you again.
07:16Yes.
07:16Okay.
07:17Yes, yes, yes.
07:17Okay?
07:18Okay, gracias.
07:18De nada. Adios.
07:20So the bad news is, the doctor's orders for the next few days, is I need to elevate my leg
07:26and go back on the bed until later in the week.
07:30I think he's been overdoing it, but haven't you?
07:32Yeah, I think, I think maybe I've been too eager to get back on my feet and to get back
07:37at helping around the house.
07:38Yeah, I think I'm going to just have to be a bit more patient. I mean, neither of us are
07:42very patient people, are we?
07:44No.
07:44And you're not one to sit down ever. I think in the 21 years that we've been together, I've never
07:51seen you sit down for longer than about five seconds.
07:54So for John, this is, you know, very hard and very weird and I'm not surprised that you've, you know,
08:00you've kind of...
08:01Been overdoing it.
08:02Been overdoing it.
08:04We're going to have to be a bit more patient.
08:05Fully renovation fit yet.
08:08Well, you know, you're the one that needs renovating.
08:13Luckily, your dad's here.
08:15Yeah, thank goodness.
08:16Although he doesn't...
08:17There's one man in my life I can rely on.
08:19He's the person I've been running around after, making him tea and breakfast and dinner.
08:26That's John out of action for at least another couple of days until he can go back to the hospital
08:31for an ultrasound to confirm whether he does indeed have thrombosis or not.
08:42But there's nothing like a long-awaited delivery to Ray's spirits.
08:46All the bits and pieces we've been ordering for the bathroom upstairs are arriving.
08:54Yeah, they're different to what I was expecting.
08:58There's still none.
09:00The tiles have just arrived and they don't look the right colour to me.
09:08I mean, they're nice.
09:09They're fine.
09:10They're just not the colour I was expecting.
09:14That'll be annoying, won't it?
09:16Is the wrong one?
09:17I'll speak to Andrew.
09:18We'll bring them in for now.
09:19Yeah, bring them in.
09:20Make sure that the right ones, and if needs be, we can get them quickly anyway.
09:25Because basically, but you see from that picture, it looks a lot better.
09:27Yeah, no, it does look a lot more green.
09:29We saw a kind of bluey-green tile in the shop that looked really nice, and I said, oh, have
09:34you got this in more of a green?
09:36So we looked and we ordered this in more of a green.
09:38This, to me, still looks like a bluey-green.
09:41I kind of was imagining a warmer green that would look nice with the wood and the gold.
09:47Kind of more like a natural green, like a leafy sort of green.
09:53Yeah, so these are definitely the ones, yeah?
09:56Okay.
09:58Yeah, yeah, no, it does.
09:59The ones that he showed me in the catalogue, he didn't have a sample.
10:02Yeah, no, I'll send you a picture now.
10:04Okay, see you in a bit.
10:05Bye-bye.
10:05You can't trust what you see in a picture or in a catalogue.
10:10You need to see it.
10:11You need to hold it and touch it and see it with your own eyes, in the flesh.
10:15Whatever it might be, it doesn't have to be tiles, it could be absolutely anything.
10:18You need to see it in the flesh, and then you can decide.
10:24Upstairs, with the air-con unit now removed, Peter's got another amazing wall covering going up in Joy's bedroom.
10:31Joy chose this lovely sort of jungle-looking paper,
10:35because she likes all the animals on there.
10:37I'm just a bit worried that I might have to chop the head off an animal or something like that.
10:41And also afraid that the elephant might be behind the bed and you're not being able to see the elephant
10:49on the wall.
10:49You know, so obviously you don't buy elephant wallpaper and then put a bed over it.
10:56And after her experience in Albion's bedroom, Jasmine is continuing her apprenticeship in the family trade.
11:02So that matches with that, we know.
11:04So does this one match with the one underneath it?
11:08If we pull the two of them across, Jess.
11:10Hang on.
11:11See, we've got a match there.
11:13There.
11:13Yeah?
11:13Yeah.
11:14And this is the top all the time, so that's got to be up there first.
11:19But, yeah, it was a bit complicated for my little brain.
11:26The bananas...
11:26Wait, let's see.
11:28So, yeah, if we turn this one round, we're going to match the other.
11:31No, but I think we might have to turn them all around.
11:33Let me just quickly look at the picture.
11:35Having my dad here is an absolute godsend.
11:38He knows what he's doing.
11:39He'll always make the right decision.
11:41And this is our first piece to go on.
11:43With the sheets now in the correct order, a starting point picked and the walls already sanded and prepped,
11:50it's time for the paste and then the first sheet of paper.
11:55So that's all the right way up and everything.
11:58It goes on here.
12:01Two inches at the top.
12:06So that's our first piece.
12:07It's very striking, and it definitely has the rainforest theme that she wanted.
12:16The biggest problem here is this, this, this here.
12:22Do you want me to hold these wires out of the way a bit?
12:24If you can, yeah.
12:26Yeah.
12:26Just need to know where they, where they are.
12:30There they are.
12:30There.
12:32Okay.
12:34Yeah, it's a fiddly old thing, but you just have to keep being careful.
12:41But the good news is that the sloth's face is, it's okay.
12:45The stupid things that you end up getting worried and stressed about, you know.
12:51But I just kept thinking, oh my God, she's going to be so upset.
12:59The sloth's got a light coming out of the middle of its face.
13:12I just kept cutting the snail bottom off.
13:15I mean, that's the thing, you know, being in a vegetarian and vegan house,
13:21you can't be chopping off the animal's eggs.
13:23No.
13:25Oh, thanks, Dad.
13:26It looks great.
13:27You know, it is quite handy having a grandad who's so good at decorating
13:33because it means that they've been able to have their rooms looking so fantastic.
13:38I'm sure she's going to love it.
13:51Down on the Costa del Sol, it's now been eight weeks since John broke his leg.
13:56And after a less than positive check-up with the doctor, he's been back for a follow-up scan.
14:01Apparently I have thrombosis, so basically a blood clot in my leg.
14:06So I was hoping I would be up on my feet helping decorate, helping renovate, helping Jazz.
14:14But the doctor's orders are I have to keep my leg up for another week.
14:19So I'm back on the sofa, leg up, Jazz's dad, decorating without my help.
14:29Anyway, onwards and upwards.
14:32Let's hope it gets better in a week or so.
14:34It could have been worse, right?
14:36And I have to be grateful and consider myself lucky that it was nothing worse.
14:41But still, it just doesn't seem fair.
14:43He's got new medication for the thrombosis.
14:48I think he was trying to run before he could walk and probably overdoing it a little bit.
14:55This is another setback Jazzmyne and John can ill afford.
15:00But keen to keep John's spirits lifted as well as entertain the kids, Jazzmyne has an idea.
15:10Someone I met when I first moved here called Gabriella.
15:13She's a vegan chef and she runs a bakery in Estepona.
15:17And she invited us to come down and cook some desserts with her.
15:21And what's nice is at the end of it, we can take some sweet treats back to John.
15:30Hi, Gabriella.
15:32Hi, how are you?
15:33Welcome.
15:35How are you guys?
15:37Are you ready to make some cinnamon rolls?
15:39Cinnamon.
15:39Cinnamon rolls.
15:41Albie, what do you think of that?
15:43Yummy.
15:44Yummy.
15:45Come on, let's go.
15:46That's Joy's favorite.
15:47Come on.
15:48I was quite pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to be plant-based and vegan here in Spain.
15:58In the supermarkets, there are plenty of options.
16:01There are online groups where people share different information.
16:05There's a vegan food truck that goes around.
16:07There's a market.
16:09There's plenty of restaurants with vegan and plant-based options.
16:14So, guys, the ingredients we have here, soy milk, mixture of sugar, yeast, vegan butter, vanilla.
16:23And here we have a flour.
16:25We have here a mixture of cinnamon with sugar and walnuts.
16:32I'm going to say this looks like it's going to be delicious.
16:36There's so many ingredients.
16:44There you go.
16:45Fantastic.
16:46It's like a puff of flour.
16:47Now, you can take this yeast.
16:50See?
16:50And you just crumble it like this.
16:52I've never seen this before.
16:54I prefer this one because it's giving more structure.
16:57We're getting all the secrets now.
16:59All the inside secrets.
17:02Every day is a school day.
17:03I love it.
17:07It smells delicious.
17:10Is it?
17:10It hasn't even started cooking yet.
17:12It's so fast.
17:13I love the smell of fresh dough.
17:16It's really, really nice to be able to do something like this with Joy and Albee.
17:20It's not something that I would probably do at home with them because my baking skills are useless.
17:27Mummy, have a little go, please.
17:29Yeah, let mum have a go.
17:30I haven't tried yet.
17:34Take a machine.
17:36Who needs one of those machines when you've got a mummy?
17:40My dad was vegetarian when we were growing up.
17:43My mum wasn't, so we all ate meat at home.
17:46But I think I had an awareness that vegetarianism was an option.
17:52We are ready to roll.
17:55Here we go.
17:57That's it, Albee.
18:00Look at this.
18:01See how cute it is.
18:03Giant.
18:04This is going to be so...
18:05Cinnamon roll.
18:07When I was six, nearly seven, I decided that I didn't want to eat meat anymore.
18:13And then became vegan just after Joy was born.
18:18So, over 11 years ago now.
18:21Oh, wow!
18:23Be careful.
18:24Yes?
18:25They, like, rose up.
18:26They are gigantic.
18:31These are the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had in my life.
18:35Are they?
18:36By a country mile.
18:37They are amazing.
18:38Oh.
18:39Thank you so much.
18:41You're very welcome.
18:43It's been my pleasure.
18:44Kids, what do you think about those cinnamon rolls?
18:46Delicious.
18:46On a scale of one to ten?
18:49Eleven.
18:50Eleven!
18:50That is so good.
18:51Best time.
18:52Best I've ever tasted.
18:53So, I think we'd better box them up, the rest, and take them home to Daddy.
18:57Otherwise, he'll never forgive us.
19:02Bye, guys.
19:03Thank you, Gabriella.
19:05Bye.
19:06See you soon.
19:07I couldn't actually believe how amazingly they turned out.
19:11Um, probably because we had a professional helping us, and John loved them.
19:16The kids loved them.
19:18We'll be eating them for days.
19:20There were so many of them, and they were so delicious.
19:23Oh, no.
19:23Oh, we've got a tip for you.
19:25Tell Daddy how to eat it.
19:26Oh, yeah.
19:26You have to eat it from the middle.
19:28Look at the dog.
19:29Is it from the middle?
19:30No.
19:30You take out the middle part, then you break it out, and you eat it from the middle.
19:35Yeah.
19:35So, I have to pull the middle bit out?
19:37Yeah.
19:37Yeah.
19:39So nice, right?
19:41Oh, my God, that is actually amazing.
19:51The next morning, it's back to the grindstone for Jasmine.
19:57I just popped out to get some more paint for my dad, because he just needed a little bit more.
20:04As amazing as Carlos has been, and he's very capable of doing lots of different things, and has already proven
20:11that, you know, maybe I need to start getting some other help in.
20:18It's looking more and more challenging to be finished the whole house before summer.
20:25I just really want to get the main areas done, the bedrooms, the living room, the kitchen, the garden, the
20:31pool, the balcony, the driveway, you know, just the main areas.
20:35Not much to ask.
20:43Hi.
20:44Hi.
20:45Hi.
20:45How are you?
20:48Good.
20:49I've been to the vets.
20:50I've got the dog's cream for his eye.
20:54Glamour.
20:55I know.
20:56I've been there.
20:56I went to the headpiece shop as well.
20:58I've got my dad's paint.
21:01I'm starting to panic slightly.
21:03You know, I was supposed to have someone else coming today to do the underfloor heating, and they've not been
21:08able to come.
21:09Yeah.
21:10I mean, we still will be 10 days away from that bathroom even thinking about being ready.
21:15I think the hill, the mountain that lays ahead of us, I think Carlos needs help.
21:21I don't think we can do it all with Carlos and his guys anymore.
21:25Well, I feel like we've barely gotten started really, have we?
21:28I was expecting the top floor to be done by now.
21:31I'm starting to wonder, what have we done?
21:36Because if we don't crack on with this, we're going to still be living in a building site by the
21:41time it gets to the summer.
21:42I was thinking the same.
21:44I think our dream of doing it floor by floor might be slightly naive and out the window.
21:50We just have to now just crack on.
21:52Crack on with everything we can.
21:53I think there is virtually zero chance of us getting everything done by this summer without some extra help.
22:03You know, I think we're going to need to bring out the big guns somehow.
22:09I'm going to go and get the kids then.
22:12Bye.
22:13Sorry, I can't do it.
22:14Won't be long.
22:16You'll have to do twice as much.
22:17You hope it won't.
22:18You hope it won't be long.
22:20The last time we did a renovation project on our house in England was just after I had given birth
22:30to Albion.
22:31And this time round, it's a lot harder.
22:33It's in another country.
22:35It's in a different language.
22:36I think we need to get multiple things going on at once.
22:42And the only way we can do that is by having more people working here.
22:58While my dad's been here, he's been trying to find bits and bobs to do.
23:03And one of the things when we were out this morning, he decided you should paint the front door.
23:08What are you doing out here?
23:12Hi.
23:12I'm trying to do a video.
23:18I think the front door is quite important, don't you?
23:22I think the front door is very important.
23:24So that colour is what we've chosen.
23:26And I actually quite like it.
23:27It's only had one coat so far, primer.
23:29When you compare it to the colour that we've got of the other blue around the rest of the house,
23:34it makes me think we might need to change the rest of the house.
23:39It's not a small dog.
23:40There's only loads of scaffolding them.
23:41Gladly.
23:43And upstairs, there have also been some changes.
23:47As despite all the challenges, progress is being made.
23:51Jasmine's finally got tiles she's happy with and Brent on site.
23:55He's an expert tiler who also does underfloor heating,
23:59with 25 years of experience on the Costa del Sol under his belt.
24:04I feel like an end might finally be in sight to this epic saga
24:10that is our family bathroom.
24:13It must be more than two months ago now that John, while I was away,
24:17took the decision to just get the guys to rip out the whole bathroom.
24:21Then when we started to get back on track,
24:23Carlos had someone to do the underfloor heating,
24:26someone else to do the herringbone tiling,
24:28and both of them let him down.
24:31But now I do feel like we're getting somewhere.
24:35Hi.
24:36Hi.
24:37Oh my gosh.
24:39It's so good, isn't it?
24:40I love it.
24:41Yeah.
24:41Yeah, come out well.
24:42Oh, it looks amazing.
24:44Yeah.
24:45I'm so glad I changed the tiles from the other ones.
24:48Yeah.
24:48I didn't like as much.
24:50The first tiles I ordered for that bathroom,
24:53when they arrived, I looked at them and I thought,
24:56actually, I don't like them.
24:59They just looked really sort of fake rustic,
25:02as opposed to genuinely, like authentically rustic.
25:07So I sent them back and luckily I was able to exchange them
25:10for something else.
25:11And the ones that I've got now, I really, really love.
25:14It's looking brilliant.
25:15Yeah, it looks nice.
25:16There's a bit of grout tomorrow.
25:18So that's it?
25:19Yeah.
25:19Then you'll be finished.
25:20Do you want a cup of tea?
25:21Yes, please, yeah.
25:24Yes, we've had a few knockbacks.
25:26Yes, it's taken a lot longer than we'd hoped,
25:30but, of course, in the end it will look amazing.
25:36With the bathroom well underway,
25:38Jasmine has a little post-school pick-up adventure planned
25:41to find ideas for Joy's jungle-themed bedroom.
25:45I've heard that Estepona is known as the garden
25:48of the Costa del Sol.
25:50So it's quite fitting that Estepona should have
25:53its own orchidarium.
25:56It's been around for more than ten years
25:58and has over 1,300 different species of orchid,
26:03as well as nearly 5,000 other tropical plants.
26:07Living here, well, you've got to go and see it, haven't we?
26:17Joy's bedroom is a sort of rainforest jungle theme,
26:22and so hopefully we might find some nice inspiration here.
26:28It smells...
26:29Ooh, this is nice. Joy!
26:32Imagine if we could make your bedroom like that.
26:33Ooh, the glass stones.
26:36The glass stones!
26:38Oh, my goodness.
26:40We, as a family, are very much nature lovers,
26:45animal lovers, tree huggers, you know.
26:49We're slightly...
26:50Well, I'm definitely a slight hippie at heart.
27:00It's like a tropical oasis here, isn't it?
27:11We can use the app,
27:13and then we can see if the app gets it right.
27:19Firestar!
27:19Firestar orchid.
27:21I've got an app on my phone,
27:23which, when I'm going around and I see beautiful flowers,
27:25I take a picture, and it identifies the flower.
27:29And once, Albion took a picture of me with the app,
27:32and it came out that I was a lady orchid.
27:36Let me see what you are.
27:39Stand there.
27:42Ready?
27:46Albion, you are a lady orchid!
27:48What plant are you, Joy?
27:53Lady orchid.
27:54Oh, we're a family of lady orchids.
27:56We should feel right at home here in the orchidarium.
28:02Look at that stripey one.
28:04It's like a zebra.
28:06And these ones look...
28:07They look like a duck with a hood on.
28:10A duck with a hood on.
28:12Where did that come from?
28:13I love your imagination.
28:17Joy, look at this waterfall.
28:19I want this on my balcony.
28:23All right, Veruca salt.
28:26And I want a pony.
28:30That's beautiful, isn't it?
28:33I think I've read about this one.
28:36It's got a really nice smell.
28:39Have a sniff.
28:40No use.
28:44It's erm...
28:45It's...
28:45No, I don't...
28:45I'm actually...
28:46Let me...
28:46All right, all right.
28:47I'll smell it.
28:47I'll smell it.
28:49Oh!
28:54Oh my gosh.
28:55Smell it.
28:57It smells like rotten meat.
29:01It attracts flies to pollinate it by imitating the smell and the look and the texture of rotten meat.
29:10Shall we carry on through there?
29:16I'm going to take a picture of this plant.
29:22I know it's probably a bit ambitious to think that Joy's bedroom might be anything even close to that, but
29:29it's definitely given me some ideas and some food for thought about what we can do with her room.
29:44Back at the house and in the bathroom, the herringbone tiles are looking great.
29:49And the underfloor heating and suites are in, so the bath surround can be tiled.
29:54While Carlos and the rest of his team bring in the rather sizeable sideboard that will house the sink.
29:59Do you want to remove the legs?
30:04Or not?
30:05No.
30:09Cuidado.
30:11All right.
30:14Hang on.
30:14Hang on.
30:15Hang on.
30:17Hold on.
30:19Cuidado.
30:22Okay.
30:23Look, look, look, look.
30:25Wait a moment.
30:31I think they've done this before.
30:37While there may now be rapid progress in the family bathroom, there's still one first floor room that hasn't changed
30:44a bit.
30:45Whilst actually not in that bad nick, the ensuite bathroom accessed via Joy's walk-in wardrobe should really be next
30:53on the list.
30:54What are we going to do about this bathroom?
30:56Obviously, by now, we'd planned to probably change it.
31:00This was supposed to be done by now, wasn't it?
31:01Mm-hmm.
31:02But, obviously, with the other bathroom having taken so many months to get it done...
31:11And it's still not done.
31:13I'm actually thinking, do we even need to change anything in here?
31:17It's not a very, you know...
31:19It's functional, isn't it?
31:21It's more than functional.
31:22It's fine.
31:23Like, the minimum we could probably do it for is, like, six or seven thousand euros.
31:31I think we should wait, spend that money elsewhere, and then, if we have the time and money at the
31:37end, then do it.
31:38Yeah, our bathroom's leaking.
31:39This one is functioning properly.
31:41So, I don't know, have we just talked ourselves out of doing anything in here?
31:45For now, I think so.
31:46I think we underestimated all the additional costs of just me not even being able to...
31:51Yeah.
31:52..filling a skip.
31:53You know, we've just paid guys to rip out that stuff and fill that skip.
31:57I mean, I was always going to do that, but I just can't do it.
32:00I can't believe you're so inconsiderate.
32:02You broke your leg.
32:03You cost us all this money.
32:05I think, you know, I'm not earning money.
32:07And you're not earning!
32:08I'm not earning money.
32:09I'm costing us more money and manpower because I can't do it.
32:12I think this bathroom...
32:14I forgive you.
32:14I forgive you.
32:18With the decision made in one bathroom and progress continuing over the next few days in the other,
32:23it's not the renovation now causing concern but one of the pets.
32:28Astro is the dog with nine lives because he has so many times done crazy things
32:36that have put his life in danger.
32:39And his latest adventure was jumping off of the roof terrace.
32:47The dog caught sight of a cat in the garden and he decided to jump up over this wall down
32:56onto the roof tiles there.
32:58And then he slipped off and fell down into the pool that's got no water in it yet because we
33:05need to fix it before we put water in it because it's leaking.
33:08Miraculously, he's completely fine.
33:10He hasn't broken anything and the vets had a look at him and said he seems to be all right,
33:18miraculously.
33:19But that has really shaken me up.
33:21It doesn't really seem possible that he's come out unscathed.
33:24He's escaped.
33:26Are you okay?
33:28Oh, bubba.
33:43Despite numerous delays along the way, there's been a surge of activity in the family bathroom.
33:49And with all the finishing touches now in place, Jasmine's grabbing John to take it all in.
33:57This bathroom has been the bane of my life for the past couple of months.
34:01I mean, at points I thought it would never get finished.
34:04It felt like the kind of room you kind of went in and you got out of it really quickly.
34:08So you went in to have a wee, you do your wee, go out as fast as you could.
34:11Like genuinely.
34:14And that's the bathroom with the very damp ceiling.
34:18What are you doing?
34:20Let's see how damp it is.
34:27That went in my mouth.
34:29I think it's like 10 years of...
34:31Neglect.
34:31Neglect.
34:37It's looking great in here now, isn't it?
34:39Finally.
34:40Finally.
34:42What's your favourite bit?
34:44Those tiles.
34:46And the toothbrush timer.
34:48What's your favourite?
34:49I don't know.
34:50I quite like the massive sink and the wooden unit.
34:53That is beautiful.
34:55But I hadn't actually realised, because I hadn't just seen this.
34:58I brought it the other day.
34:59I hadn't actually realised it's a toothbrush timer.
35:01Well, it is now.
35:02No, no, it's great.
35:03I mean, it feels like it shouldn't have been as painful as it was.
35:08But let's hope the next three bathrooms that we have to do aren't as painful as this.
35:13Yeah, let's hope they don't take three months each, because otherwise we'll be here for a year doing bathrooms.
35:23That bathroom will probably always remain the best bathroom in the house.
35:27Because all the blood, sweat and tears that have gone into it.
35:31There's one tile that when it gets caught by the light of the mirror...
35:35I quite like the fact that they're slightly...
35:37I mean, they're meant to be slightly healed beauty, aren't they?
35:40I like it. I don't think there's any problem with that.
35:43I love it all. I think it's good. You've done well.
35:45I take all the credit.
35:52I really love that bathroom.
35:56I chose everything that I wanted.
36:00I really went with my heart.
36:02You know, everything came from the heart.
36:04There's all these things that have appeared. I've not seen that.
36:06There's a bottle of...
36:08Mmm, fragrance.
36:11Is that when Albie's made a particularly poopy smell?
36:15No, it was for you.
36:17I know they say that kitchens and bathrooms sell houses, but I think it's right.
36:22I think, you know, that bathroom is testament to that expression.
36:27In our last house that we did up in the UK, my favourite...
36:32One of my favourite rooms of the house was our en-suite bathroom.
36:36Straight up.
36:37It was, you know, just nice. You could sit in there for 80s.
36:43Come on then.
36:44Let's go back to our slightly rubbish en-suite.
36:48Our leaky en-suite.
36:52Over in Joy's bedroom, with Peter's decorating done, it's now up to Jasmine and John to transform the room with
36:59lighting, furniture and those all-important finishing touches.
37:03And John's finding his renovation feet again with a bespoke tree-themed shelving unit.
37:12Initially, we started collecting driftwood so that we could build it ourselves, because we thought the tree could be made
37:17of driftwood, because we're so close to the beach.
37:21But that didn't work.
37:22So then we basically contacted someone else and asked them if they could sort of build it and design it.
37:27Which they've done. They've sent it to me.
37:30Now all I've got to do is assemble it and put it on the wall.
37:33And as it cost just over £380, John had better be up to the task.
37:39If this even vaguely works, I'll be amazed.
37:46How am I meant to get that in there? This is like literally a jigsaw puzzle.
38:00Don't worry, it's the man with the broken leg up the ladder.
38:05One shelf up, I've already got the glue out to repair it.
38:10It's all fine, it's all fine. Nothing to see here. There will be shelves by nightfall.
38:17Meanwhile, Jasmine's found a thrifty upgrade to a bed she paid £100 for.
38:23I bought these beds second-hand, mine and Joy's beds,
38:30just in a bit of a rush because we were moving in.
38:33And they were this grey fabric, upholstered with this grey fabric,
38:38which is fine, you know, not offensive.
38:41But underneath it's got a really actually quite nice velvet.
38:44So I'm trying to take all of this cover off of it,
38:50so that we can reveal a much nicer finish, I think, underneath.
38:56And that'll mean that, you know, it'll almost be like a new bed for Joy.
39:01Look at those pliers.
39:04It's going to be a long afternoon for Jasmine and John,
39:07but with Albion's bedroom and the family bathroom already looking fabulous,
39:12and Joy's room soon to follow,
39:14phase one of the build and the first floor is nearly complete.
39:18The biggest challenge has been having the time to sit down, decide on things,
39:27do the shopping, going out, finding little unusual quirky things.
39:31I'm feeling exhausted.
39:33I feel quite emotional about it, actually.
39:48It's another sunny Costa del Sol morning,
39:51and Joy's bedroom is now ready to show off.
39:54Right.
39:56It's the moment you've been waiting for.
40:01She wanted this rainforest theme.
40:04I haven't gone too mad with it, but I hope it's got enough for her.
40:10You know, I actually have got a bit of butterflies in my stomach.
40:14Can I go in?
40:15Let's go in and I can't wait to see what you think.
40:17I hope she likes it.
40:19I'm sure she will. It looks beautiful.
40:24Joy's bedroom previously was just meh.
40:28It was nothing, really.
40:30It didn't look very exciting.
40:32It was really dark.
40:34You couldn't open the blinds.
40:36It was just quite bland.
40:40Oh!
40:42Oh, my God!
40:47What do you think?
40:49It's so cool.
40:51It's so cool.
40:55Now it just looks dreamy.
40:58I love it.
41:00I want to swap bedrooms with her.
41:04I mean, the shelf is so cool.
41:07Like, who do you actually know that has something like this?
41:11The Driftwood bookshelf is a really big statement.
41:14It just combines her two loves so perfectly.
41:17She loves reading and she loves nature.
41:20And so that brings them both together.
41:22I think John did have a little bit of a challenge on his hands with it.
41:25But I think he's done a brilliant job putting it all together.
41:31That's pretty.
41:32You like the hammock?
41:34Finally, I won't have to put all of my teddies on my bed and therefore have no space for myself.
41:39Yeah, exactly.
41:40A teddy hammock.
41:42Who knew such a thing existed?
41:43Is it what you were expecting?
41:46Even better.
41:48Is it?
41:50Aw.
41:52I think there's quite a few different styles and different textures in there, which I really love.
41:59But I just love all the little quirky bits and pieces that I found.
42:04And putting them all together in a way that just turned out lovely.
42:10And somehow they all just work.
42:13It's just beautiful.
42:16What about the desk, the chair, do you like all that?
42:19The chair is very pretty.
42:21I like the...this.
42:24It's beautiful.
42:25It's very soft as well.
42:27The desk is basically a slab of natural wood that's been sanded a bit and varnished.
42:33And it just, you know, that whole natural rainforest theme.
42:38You know, what could be more rainforest-themed than a big slab of natural wood?
42:43Do you think the wallpaper looks good?
42:45I think it really fits with, like, everything else in here.
42:49It's just so cute.
42:51There's all those lovely animals.
42:52It works so well with the rest of her room.
42:56I think that was the sort of inspiration, I think, for everything else that went on around it.
43:05Thank you so much.
43:06It's so pretty.
43:11Daddy did loads as well.
43:13Yeah, I heard him drilling, like, 24-7 into the ceiling.
43:19Oh, well, I'm glad you love it, darling.
43:23Her room looks so perfect that it's almost not real.
43:27It's almost like AI has just created it.
43:30But it is real and it's beautiful.
43:35I can't even describe how happy I am to have the rooms finished that we've done.
43:43It's amazing.
43:45I am delighted, obviously, that we've finished some areas of the house.
43:52But, honestly, if we have the same amount of obstacles doing the rest of the house as we did with
43:59the upstairs,
44:00then I could very easily fall out of love with this whole thing.
44:05To get this done by the summer, we are definitely going to need help.
44:13You know, he was here with us from the start, but I think we need a bit more help.
44:20And we're going to take away that bar, add a door, which will go straight through into the gym.
44:24OK. My own gym.
44:31This is that much concrete.
44:34We're essentially breaking these to a bank.
44:37Right. Do you think I look protected enough?
44:40I think you look protected enough.
44:43Those will always be there as part of my house.
44:49Thanks.
44:58I think.
45:11Thanks.
45:14Talk to me.
