00:03we've only got a week until the kitchen is arriving so all of this needs to be done before
00:11then walls and ceilings are really important actually underrated sometimes good boy what
00:20keeps us going in between the highs and lows of the whole renovation project is when we can get
00:27together and do things as a family they're bringing it out any little tiny mistake and the whole glass
00:35tabletop could shatter into a million pieces I'm getting nervous now that's the end whose idea was
00:43is about a hundred feet of lights with some guests coming in a few weeks it's going to be really
00:49nice
00:49to have the Sun Terrace finished finally yeah first feels like a big moment at the end of a long
01:05journey that's leprechaun green beautiful color I love the colors though I share but but yeah it's
01:11not it's too bright the intensity at the moment so close to the end is ridiculous well if he doesn't
01:22do it on Thursday it won't be done in time because he's only got Thursday in front it's pushing it
01:27already I'm just having to leave it all in John's hands I don't it just couldn't be worse timing really
01:39we'll do it we'll do it we're fine
01:44so lucky we are I think it's pretty touch and go as to whether everything will be finished on time
01:51for the housewarming party it's too close to call
02:07on the Costa del Sol the renovation project is heating up with the first floor and basement
02:13finished the heart of the house is starting to near completion the kitchens in now the fun starts
02:23because we feel like we're so close to the end of the renovation we thought it would be nice to
02:28hold a little summer party slash housewarming and just a way of saying thanks to all those
02:34people that have helped along the way the party is in a little over a week away and there's still
02:41a long list of jobs left to complete I do feel like if we're gonna get this party across the
02:48line
02:48for the start of summer to sort of celebrate the end of the renovation we might be cutting it down
02:53to the wire slightly as they approach the finish line the jobs that are left are largely skilled
03:00building work that Jasmine and John aren't qualified to help with there are lots of jobs happening all
03:08at once there's work going on in practically every corner of this house but needs must we've got to
03:16get it all done but what she can do is try and keep Dominic and his team to their schedule
03:22after an
03:23extensive hunt to find balustrades to finish off the exterior staircase he has managed to source ones
03:29that match the 30 year old design of the originals in a local builders yard ah that's good yes it's
03:38like
03:38looking for gold this slightly what it's like looking for gold how do you mean getting one of these in
03:44stock oh you managed to find one yeah and they've got the rest of these lovely but um something like
03:52that we'll just get rid of that last part yeah how do you attach it to the chemical anchor chemical
03:58anchor and because it's big and square it just puts that last bit of strength in there amazing it's
04:04worked really well oh thank you elsewhere outside the tiling of the stairs down to the basement is
04:13proceeding at pace you can hear you can hear the tile cutting going on they're doing the stairs stair
04:21rises which is brilliant I'll be so happy when they're done it will set the whole thing off but
04:26as you can hear it's super noisy here there is no escape from this racket
04:39I've chosen quite a traditional tile for the stair risers because I think it's in keeping with the
04:46traditional style of this house I think those stairs would be so boring if you had the same tile on
04:54every
04:55single part but the fact we've got quite a modern tile on the top which extends down to the patio
05:00but then a really beautiful traditional style tile on the risers it just makes them much more of a feature
05:09however one feature they have had little control of is the neighbor's wall it remains unfinished as their
05:15builder has become ill are we going to do about the wall in the garden but we can't really go
05:20any control over that
05:21have we no shall i phone my neighbor and see i just i phone her and just sound it out
05:28and see what's happening now
05:32with the wall stalling the garden progress for now the attention is on getting the exterior of the house
05:38up to scratch there are lots of areas of the house that haven't been painted yet carlos and martin did
05:47the front
05:48of the house and so there's still the side and the back of the house to do
06:12so i think it's going to be quite a dark color i think that's the idea i think i need
06:16to see the paint
06:17in the flesh rather than looking at it on a screen to see if it's going to work because that's
06:24probably
06:24a bit too green i can already see yeah it's too dark in it it's not too dark it's too
06:30green it needs
06:31to be more of a gray green it's hard to have the confidence to paint a wall green i think
06:38revamping
06:39them by painting this beautiful really deep green color will really make them look much more attractive
06:47once you've got beautiful things on the shelves and you know it'll make the fireplace really stand out
06:53so it's just a question of finding the right shade of green
07:07the next day dominic has painted the alcoves in the new green that jasmine wants
07:12to test how the color looks on a big surface so we've had a color match
07:19for this green and it hasn't matched that well jasmine's come up it it should have a hint of
07:28gray in it and it doesn't it's really green we're not happy with it but jasmine hasn't seen it yet

08:21a new shade of green by mixing in some off-white paint
08:26like i want it not the same color as the kitchen but a similar muted sort of gray green but

08:35than the kitchen yeah now now number two mix is this one so it's very close to that right very
08:45very
08:45close that looks much better yeah actually good unfortunately our timber the one for the wood
08:55is coming out drastically that's the same as that no or that no no no i don't think any of
09:02them are
09:02exactly the same i'll give that another coat see how it looks when it's dry just to make sure because
09:08some paints they just a bit more depth when they change yeah i don't think you'll ever paint a piece
09:13of wood and paint the wall and it be identical colors with the same color pattern it just doesn't happen
09:19the decision is made to paint over the area and the wooden doors of the cupboards with the new blend
09:27that dominic has created and then they will assess the overall effect well let me know how you get on
09:33i'll come and have a look once that once we've got that woodwork paint sorted all right okay thank you
09:43after making that big decision another one jasmine made a while ago is being delivered i've been putting
09:51off getting the big furniture for the living room like the sofa because we didn't have space anywhere
09:58to store it and i didn't want it to get ruined before we'd even had a chance to use it
10:03but when
10:04the sofa arrived still a bit too early really we're not ready for it it's really exciting along with the
10:12other jobs on the to-do list the deadline is focusing minds the party's coming up incredibly soon and so
10:21we need to start getting the furniture in otherwise we risk not having it there on the day
10:42in estepona it's a hive of activity at the house even joy and albion are getting involved
10:49you know our old dining room table what about painting the legs green to match the new green
10:56cupboards that mommy's done okay i mean painting is not my forte i think we've learned not a lot is
11:05my
11:05forte when it comes to diy but albion did all those months back painting his bedside table and that came
11:11out looking pretty good so yeah i mean i think the problem with the kids is their attention span i
11:17imagine we'll start the legs and i'll be the one finishing the legs are you ready
11:24that's it look well done this is so satisfying it's satisfying right
11:29that's how satisfying it'll be when you're eating your dinner off your fancy new table that you two have
11:32done yourselves are you looking forward to the renovating ending yes we can finally be in a
11:41house that's not dusty it will finally be in a house that doesn't have lots of tradesmen and
11:50also for the rest of the summer holidays you can have lines without being woken up by hammering and
11:55drilling and cutting and grinding yeah throughout the renovation with the environment and budget in
12:02mind jasmine and john have tried to recycle what they can it's good alps good work this table was one
12:11of
12:11the first things we bought to put in this house it was 80 euros with four chairs
12:19and now we're going to use it again and we're giving it a new lease of life
12:22maybe we could paint your nose green and give you a new lease of life sounds fun i volunteer
12:29do it to joy you've wanted to have your nose painted no to paint his nose
12:34we just roll over any bits where it's like thick over that corner
12:38oh alvie's doing under there like a mechanic this is underneath a car fixing it
12:45you've done well two more legs to go and the backs yeah i do worry that in the last few
12:52weeks of
12:53focusing on renovation we've kind of neglected the kids a bit so even spending half an hour painting a
12:59table leg is nice with the legs requiring a few coats of paint it'll be a few days before the
13:06table is
13:07ready another job jasmine and john want to strike off their to-do list is getting their driveway gates
13:14installed we've had to build a new column just to take the weight of the gate we've liaised with the
13:21gate guy who hasn't got the gate yet it's quite a mechanism hopefully it will turn up we had a
13:28three
13:28week lead time and we're very close to six weeks now so as you can imagine it's not the greatest
13:36from one problem outside that's out of their control to one inside that john can shed some
13:42light on well the one thing we've slightly realized that is because these kitchen is from a showroom
13:49they're obviously giving you the two options of colors of lights a nice warm light
13:58and a much less nice daylight so currently that's my worst nightmare
14:04as a i mean that literally is my pet hey if you stay in a hotel that has mixed color
14:09temperatures
14:09lighting it does my head in so i'll have to solve that somehow this is white
14:16but we want this one
14:19this yes like tungsten okay
14:25yeah it's better warm warm with the housewarming party around the corner jasmine still needs to
14:34tackle an untouched room our bedroom has been the very last priority of everything because we're trying
14:44to get the children's areas done and then trying to get all the communal areas done but what i would
14:52love to see in here is a really calming space where i can just come and relax
15:02that day will come one day i'm sure
15:05so this bed we bought um together with joy's bed and both beds were upholstered with like a gray linen
15:14but underneath was this nice velvet which i actually prefer so i just took off the
15:20linen and we've got a brand new bed i've had to move the bed out of the way because the
15:24electrician
15:25was fitting this light fitting it feels a bit low actually but i think because it's over the bed it
15:30will be fine so i'm going to try and move the bed back into its normal position and then i
15:35can get
15:36all the furniture in place and get rid of all the other junk not sure how heavy it is okay
15:47it's like driving a very big car
15:52when i bent down did that sound like i farted
16:07oh my love with orders for bedside tables and furnishings yet to arrive
16:13finishing the main bedroom will be down to the wire
16:19when jasmine and john started their build they thought it would have been finished by now
16:24however with delays accumulating over the course of the renovation the house is still a building site
16:36so with jasmine's family in town for a special occasion they are taking a much needed break from the
16:43renovation we are having a nice family boat trip today to celebrate my sister's birthday and she's
16:51out here with the rest of the family three two one we had a really nice afternoon out on our
17:05boat
17:07and that was a good break because i had no phone signal
17:19but reality returns as soon as they reach the shore with a few days until the housewarming party
17:26they have received news on the driveway gates
17:30we've had a couple of minor obstacles with getting the driveway finished
17:38um the gates have been slightly delayed the manufacturer has said there's a small complication with the
17:46centre post so they're working on it they're going to get it to us as soon as possible i don't
17:52know how
17:52soon that's going to be but as i'm coming to realize nothing is ever straightforward with an
18:00uncertainty as to whether the gates will arrive in time for the housewarming party there is however
18:06better news in the living area quinn has been painting the wooden elements of the lounge unit
18:11with dominic's new mix of the green paint
18:16uh how's the green i think it's a good match i mean it looks good here yeah exactly so especially
18:23those little handles yeah because that looks very different at the moment today that's got more
18:28natural light on it though it's a really good match oh it's good and it's and i was skeptical
18:33but now it's done it's good yeah i take it back jazz was right again well yeah i do agree
18:38everybody said that everybody's gone no and then looked at it and gone oh no that's fine actually
18:42that's good a few ornaments in there will get even better won't it at this stage of the process
18:47we just need everything yeah we can't change anything god look nice
18:57with the work paused for the evening there's nothing more they can do except continue the
19:03celebrations for the birthday girl and finally put the basement area through its
19:15places it's just a bit tricky because obviously we don't have a proper kitchen and it's really
19:22dusty and the garden is full of mud and tiles and stuff like that but we're not letting that dampen
19:30our
19:38experience we're still enjoying uh time together and we are still celebrating her birthday so it's so
19:47nice to have them here we miss them a lot and wish we could see more of them i can't
20:09imagine how
20:10stressful this is because i've only been here for two days and it's hard work living in a house where
20:17the kitchen is not finished and you're and that kind of thing but it looks like it's going to be
20:22fantastic
20:24we still have quite a mountain to climb and it feels like we've still got quite a lot ahead of
20:30us
20:31and the mountain is tall the time to get up there is very short this renovation has been all consuming
20:41for us over the last few months and the intensity at the moment so close to the end is ridiculous
20:50it's
20:51gone to the next level so it never stops you know we have of course taken some time
20:59off to be with the family but it's straight back into it
21:14on the costa del sol there's good news with the neighbors adjoining wall
21:20allowed builder matt and the team to crack on finally things are starting to happen with this
21:28wall my neighbor's got a new builder who seems to be very good and they've been working on it so
21:35that we can get this side finished so the guys have already um red gripped it ready to be plastered
21:44rendered
21:46the light fittings can but can be on because the electricity is there ready
21:52we've got so little time left before everyone's coming around to see our house and to appreciate
21:59everything it's cutting it really fine now to try and get this garden done in the time that we've got
22:06and that wall well we can just hope for a miracle though it's not finished having the basic wall
22:15constructed work can now begin on the garden we are so lucky with this house because we have the most
22:23lovely neighbors maria and manuel and their children live next door and manuel's a gardener
22:29and when he saw the stay of the garden after the builders had terrorized it he said would you like
22:39me to come and help you with the garden and i was like yes please because i'm so bad with
22:44gardens
22:45preparing the soil is the first step with the garden and we can do that straight away then we can
22:50put in
22:50plants and we can put turf down because the grass is gone now the grass is completely wrecked and when
22:59we have the housewarming party it would be really nice if the garden was green and i think it would
23:04just finish it off to be honest turfing it is a more expensive solution but it is also a much
23:12quicker
23:12solution and at the moment time is of the essence with the builders and gardeners done for the day
23:22jasmine john joy and albion take a step off site and a step back onto the court amazingly it's been
23:31almost five months to the week since i broke my leg playing paddle and yet it feels in the last
23:37few
23:38weeks i finally stopped limping which feels like a good achievement joy yes joy i mean i'm definitely
23:52going to take it easy being that it's the first game back but also today feels feels like a big
23:57moment at the end of a long journey yes joy mommy oh joy got two great returns mommy i can
24:13never get
24:13the hand eye coordination like i think the racket's longer than it is i am hopeless i i i wouldn't
24:23quite
24:23say i'm a lost cause but close so i think if i was to do it more regularly i'd get
24:29better
24:31i i've got some sort of problem with spatial awareness i should have some lessons why don't
24:36you give me some lessons i'm not sure i can teach spatial awareness no then ready
24:47jazz tonight feels like a really pivotal moment
24:51my leg break sort of surprised us all and has genuinely has dominated far too much of this year
24:57so it feels like from this point onwards we can sort of push any leg issues or worries behind us
25:05we can move forward with family life and the life that we intended the reason we moved out here
25:10it feels like it can begin again good game here's to many more happy paddle games yeah
25:17it almost feels like we are coming full circle and we're coming through a pretty dark tunnel
25:27where you know john broke his leg then he got thrombosis then he had a heart attack
25:33and all of that coinciding with all of the renovation of the house i can finally see light at the
25:42end of the tunnel
25:50with the neighbor's wall now heading in the right direction jasmine is hopeful that the garden
25:56will be turfed in time for the housewarming party so she heads off to get some plants
26:03i absolutely love garden centers i could just walk around all day spending money it's a nightmare
26:09i shouldn't be trusted in a garden center the main things that i'm looking for today are some nice
26:16plants for the garden that are colorful indigenous plants that we don't need loads of watering or don't
26:23need loads of maintenance i also need to look into how much it's going to cost me to buy topsoil

26:30probably need a bit of advice on what to buy because i don't really know much about gardening at all

29:31back at the house builder dominic has completed the balustrade for the stairs leading to the garden
29:37where we've installed the stairs from the ground floor balcony down to the garden level
29:45we obviously had to take out a little bit of the balustrades and so in order to make that
29:50safe and stable we've had to put in a newel post which is like the corner post which keeps everything
29:56stable solid no one's gonna lean on the balcony and it'll all tumble down
30:03john is lending a hand with a job that is within his skill set grouting on the outside of the
30:08basement
30:09window basically we're running out of time there's loads of tiles that aren't grouted
30:16i'm trying to grout them before
30:20we have our party and everything else
30:24i'm not sure grouting is my forte but
30:28if you know right now diy is not my forte
30:38yeah that's feeling that's really too much water
30:45tiny tiny bit more i think i've just used half their brown
30:52just mix my water now
30:57after mixing a fresh thicker batch john can proceed
31:03i'm not sure this is the right colour for this tile
31:06whether it should be more of a pure white last time i actually grouted it was the first flat jazz

31:14the last time i did any grouting and that grouting looked terrible too
31:18i think jazz is going to come back and tell me this should be white
31:24because now i see it against the blue it's not quite right
31:37as he finishes off jasmine is back from the garden center to assess his work
31:43i haven't had grass since that flat i haven't i forgot that you need so little water in your
31:48mixes that i basically trashed like half the bag of kraut and had to throw it down the drain this

31:54okay right that looks really good it's amazing how white that look compared to the stuff when it's
31:59not on a blue tile is it the same same grout same grout looks really good well done
32:06with friends and family coming in a matter of days for their party there's still lots to finish
32:13everything is coming to a head everything is coming to the final decisions the last big push to
32:21get everything across the line to be honest i'm finding it quite stressful and there is an added
32:28complication i've got to go to work in portugal it couldn't have come at worst time really but i have
32:40been postponing this particular shoot until after the renovation was finished but because
32:51we're so delayed now um i couldn't postpone it any longer and i'm literally bailing going away
33:00to work in the last few days before our housewarming party so i'm just having to leave it all
33:12in john's hands i don't it it just couldn't be worse timing really i don't really know
33:21i don't really know what's going to happen whether everything's going to fall apart when i go away
33:27or whether i'm not as indispensable as i thought i was and i'll come back and it'll all be done
33:47on the costa del sol jasmine and john's dream family home is nearing completion but they have
33:54to finish the living area driveway gates the garden wall lay the new turf and add all the finishing
34:02touches but they have to do all of it without jasmine as she is about to leave for a work
34:08trip to
34:08portugal it feels a bit like the shoe is on the other foot i'm normally abandoning jazz for work
34:17and she's got everything on her plate so not only is there quite a lot to do for the party
34:23try and sort out some sort of surprise entertainment some cakes but we also need to finish the house
34:32before she leaves there's just time to do the final handover with the builders to sort out their
34:38plan for whilst jasmine is away the neighbor's wall is now built but needs to be evened up with extra
34:44concrete then rendered and finished this all needs to happen before the garden turf can be laid which
34:51jasmine has already scheduled it needs to be done by wednesday remember remember we spoke about this it
34:59needs to be done by wednesday it can't be done by wednesday i've got the gardener coming to put the
35:03turf down on thursday yeah what's happened then has this changed because i thought it was going to be
35:10done by wednesday i've got like oh god you've got to bring it out and pack it out if it
35:15was a normal
35:16brick wall you just kept it would now be all cappuccine wouldn't it but when you're trying to correct
35:20something else's work yeah exactly yeah bring it out bring it out it's literally about that much in the
35:28and it was full of well if he doesn't do it on thursday it won't be done in time no
35:33no because
35:34he's only got thursday and friday it's pushing it already yeah you know that is exactly how it's
35:38going to go yeah it's definitely down to the wire i mean it was obviously we want to do it

35:44in the first place if we do it even if it's finished and i think he'll get surfing has he
35:50got a moment to
35:50spend though but i think he'll do it because we'll give anybody that needs a handout so but i think

35:57will get there it's just going to be last minute yeah like everything for the last three weeks

36:41she'll just have to leave it up to john and the builders as it's time for jasmine to leave too

38:36the next day despite her departure the work has to continue regardless
38:42with one of the missing pieces of the jigsaw finally arriving

38:51the worktop's arrived the kitchen is very ready for a worktop the worktop company have pulled out
38:56all the stops to get it here in time let's get it in
39:02not kind of fine at all three days before some sort of summer party or gathering
39:09and we've got loads of deliveries still to come the worktop is arriving the tiles for the kitchen are
39:15arriving i mean i've sort of lost track it's all slotting in perfectly bring on next week when it's all
39:22over
39:32it's really hope it fits
39:39wow and i'll my big beef with the old workshop you couldn't see when it's dirty
39:44you're definitely going to see when this is daddy
39:50it looks good i mean i did entirely leave the worktop decision to jazz
39:54i've seen a tiny sample it's good it looks like a worktop that i'll enjoy wiping obsessively every five

40:33this level's nearly done final touches now and then we'll we'll be there yeah fingers crossed i mean
40:38in theory the tiling is not it shouldn't take too long because it's not not that high really

40:52painting so obviously that plaster was wet in a little bit pained dry it seems to put the final

41:13company can now connect the water supply
41:17and dominic's team can start fitting the splashback tiles
41:22john is also on hand to get the all-important lesson on how to operate his new gadget
