Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is making another major change—this time to the Hidden Blade.

Ubisoft confirmed it won’t be a selectable weapon anymore, instead becoming a contextual takedown mechanic.

Fans aren’t happy… and it raises a bigger question:
how far can a remake change things before it stops feeling like the original?

00:00Black Flag Resinked won't let you use the Hidden Blades as a separate weapon.
00:04And I just woke up, read this, and I really wanted to go back to sleep because this is just
00:10so asinine, it's insane.
00:12You could say this is one of those changes that sounds small on paper, but actually cuts right into the
00:17game's identity.
00:18In Black Flag, the Hidden Blade wasn't just a simple tool, it was a part of how you expressed your
00:23playstyle.
00:24Sure, you could go full pirate with swords, and I did that.
00:27Or you could lean into the Assassin's Fantasy and use the blades more directly, which was amazing.
00:33Even the trailer back in the day was showing us how to use Hidden Blades to defend ourselves when Edward
00:38was disarmed, or rather he couldn't use his swords anymore.
00:41So turning this into a contextual finisher in Black Flag Resink basically removes that choice.
00:47And you could say it risks making combat feel more restricted and more scripted.
00:52So if you didn't figure out by now, this for me is a net negative unless they replace that freedom
00:58with something better.
00:59Because at the end of the day, this isn't just about visuals or animations.
01:03It's all about control, and removing the ability to use the Hidden Blade freely takes away a layer of that
01:08control.
01:09This feels, again, like Ubisoft is trying to modernize something that didn't need fixing, and risking losing what made it
01:16fun in the first place.
