00:00Recently someone commented on one of my videos saying that I should try this Eon Rush thing.
00:06According to their words, it's a fast-paced co-op roguelite RPG, and there is a free demo out now.
00:13So I did just that. I downloaded it, I played it, and this is going to be my first impressions
00:20about how I felt playing the game. So what is Eon Rush? Well, according to Steam, Eon Rush is a
00:27co-op ARPG with 20-minute competitive runs. Evolve your build mid-run, unleash decisive power spikes,
00:35and change synergies to climb global leaderboards. No 100-hour grind required. Master heroes from
00:41across the eras and conquer brutal gauntlets and colossal bosses together. From what I can tell
00:48initially, Eon Rush mixes ideas from several genres. You have Diablo-styled ARPG combat,
00:55MOBA-like heroes with unique abilities, roguelite runs lasting about 15-20 minutes,
01:011-4 player co-op, PvE with optional PvP segments, and heavy emphasis on ability combinations rather
01:09than loot grinding. Now this all sounds nice and fine, but as far as I'm concerned, the biggest
01:15problem this game has is the execution of all these elements. For starters, I couldn't try the
01:22co-op because I couldn't find the match. Simple as that. I waited around 5-10 minutes to be matched
01:28with people, but apparently that's never gonna happen. I don't know if this is a problem because
01:33it's still a demo. Maybe this particular feature isn't unlocked yet or operational, but as first
01:40impressions go, this is already a problem. Next element that I'm gonna talk about is this so-called
01:45Diablo-styled ARPG combat. Now I play Diablo games, especially Diablo 3 and now Diablo 4 to no end,
01:54and as far as I'm concerned, this isn't a Diablo-styled ARPG combat. First problem with this
02:01is the weird input scheme. For some strange reason, your basic attack and movement are two separate
02:08buttons. You attack with left mouse button, while you move with the right mouse button. To me, more
02:15intuitive system would be that you attack and move with the same button. Because what happens is there
02:21is this delay between you attacking and closing the distance between you and your target. It feels
02:28very fucking awkward. You first need to get to your target with one button, and then when you are
02:35nearby, you attack with the other. To me, like I said, this is very counter-intuitive and contributes
02:41to overall jankiness of the game. And speaking about jankiness, there is plenty of it in the game.
02:47Stuff doesn't feel fluid, there are these weird delays when you're trying to use your abilities,
02:53and overall, I think the game is very slow compared to what it claims it wants to be.
03:00Now, don't get me wrong, Diablo 4, for example, isn't the fastest game there ever is,
03:05but compared to this, it's basically lightspeed fast, no question about that. So, I suppose the
03:11biggest problems with combat at the moment are sluggishness, weird input scheme, and overall
03:18jank, which for some reason I cannot properly describe. You need to play the game in order to
03:24see it, but again, there is footage that I recorded, so maybe you can see what I'm talking about.
03:29When it comes to MOBA-like heroes, at the moment you have four of them. They usually cover certain
03:35archetypes, whether it be this woman that's basically Jaina from Heroes of the Storm,
03:41then you have this variant-looking guy with swords, some kind of a cyber wolf, and finally this ogre
03:48tank woman. Yes, you can say that they have unique abilities, but again, the issues with combat
03:55overshadow their kit. I tried all of them, and again, because of combat issues, I tend to gravitate
04:01towards characters that are mostly ranged. Essentially, you don't need to close distance,
04:07you just bombard from far away, and you're good to go. Now, when it comes to roguelite runs lasting
04:13about 15 to 20 minutes, I did try this mode where you have these sort of endless waves,
04:20and the roguelite elements comes from you upgrading your abilities based on what's there available at
04:26the moment. Is it an interesting system? Well, you can say it is. That's basically what roguelite is
04:32all about, you never know what you're gonna get. But when you get a certain upgrade that kinda
04:37evolves your kit, then it feels really amazing. Also, for those of you who are interested how the
04:43game looks like, well, tough luck. I don't really give a shit about how these games look. As far as
04:49it looks decent enough, I'm okay. I would say nothing breathtaking, nothing special, it's basically
04:54serviceable. If the looks are the main thing for this type of game for you, well, you're never gonna
05:00play it. It's as simple as that. And that's why I usually ignore the graphical segment, and mostly
05:06focus on what you are actually gonna do for the most time, and that's basically combat. Now, again,
05:12I couldn't play with people, so I cannot really tell you about the PvE aspects with optional PvP
05:18and the co-op setting, as well as this heavy emphasis on ability combinations. I know, game is
05:25still in a relatively young stage, maybe later they are going to fix it, or rather make PvE and co
05:32-op
05:32available. But for now, for me, this element of the game is going to be a mystery. Also, before I
05:39forget, this game has the item section, where you can equip certain items to your characters based on
05:44the currency that you earned while playing the game. For example, you can get this item called
05:48Stone Guards, which gives you plus 15 max health and plus 7 damage reduction. So I reckon these are
05:53the fixed modifiers that you can equip that can help you later on, as opposed to having everything
05:59being roguelite to begin with. On top of that, you have these guardian abilities, which are fixed
06:04abilities that you can equip on your character. For example, this haste ability, which increases
06:09movement speed temporarily, or healing, or whatever there is, which is basically another layer of fixed
06:15customization that you can apply to your character. In the end, I could say, based on the first impressions
06:21that I had with this game, is that I would definitely not recommend playing this, at least in that
06:25state. The biggest problems for me are combat and input scheme, which you cannot really change to
06:32accommodate your playstyle. And since that's the most interaction that I will ever have with the game,
06:39it's safe to say that I will not play this. I don't feel comfortable playing it, I think certain design
06:45decisions make absolutely no sense whatsoever. And overall, in the present state of the game, which is
06:51version 0.35.26, I don't think this game is worth your time. If you want a better MOBA, you
06:59can always
06:59play Heroes of the Storm, which is for free. And if you want an ARPG experience, well, you can choose
07:05from free options like Path of Exile, or you can go and jump into Diablo 4. Or even better, you
07:12can try
07:12Last Epoch. It all depends how much complexity do you want in your ARPG game. And that's basically it,
07:19that's my first impressions for Eon Rush. Interesting ideas, interesting concepts, but very
07:26bad execution. Who knows, maybe it will become better in the future, but right now, it's a hard
07:32pass for me. But enough about me, I wanna hear what you think about Eon Rush. Have you played the
07:38game,
07:38and do you agree with what I just said? Post your comments down below, so I can see what you
07:43think
07:43about this whole situation. And if you enjoyed the video, don't forget to like, subscribe,
07:48all that good stuff. And that's it from me, until the next one.
