00:00Rolling credits on Ubisoft's nostalgia-fueled Black Flag Remake, I came to a realisation.
00:05Almost everything good in Black Flag Resynced exists in the original game.
00:10It's certainly prettier, has better ship combat, and quality of life changes do help
00:14sand away the rougher edges, but friction in games isn't always a bad thing.
00:19Take stealth for instance.
00:20Resynced's improved sneaking now allows you to crouch anywhere, but it also removes all
00:25fail conditions from stealth missions, meaning you can murder your way through every situation.
00:29Resynced does away with hidden blade combat, fisticuffs and temporary weapons, and while
00:34the new Cutlass-only fighting feels a little harder, it's ultimately bland thanks to fewer
00:38options and damage sponge enemies you have to hack away at.
00:42After 40 hours with Black Flag Resynced, I find myself unconvinced it needed a remake in the
00:47first place, especially when the original has aged so well, and Resynced so often chooses
00:52to change core components over attaining the feel of the original.
00:55It'd be a lie to say Resynced isn't good.
00:58But almost everything good in it is still good in Black Flag.
01:02Better in fact, if a fond nostalgic adventure is your wish, and you'd prefer not to toss
01:06a handful of doubloons in the sand for a game you likely already own.
