00:00Let's shine on football, where the Eagles were making lemonade on draft night.
00:06Hey, why? Philly coming.
00:09It is.
00:11Oh, Philly just traded for you.
00:13I love it.
00:13This is Philly. He just traded for you.
00:16Philly's taking you right now.
00:18Hi. This is Howie Roseman. I'm the GM of the Eagles. How you doing?
00:23Yeah, remember our walk on the field?
00:26Yeah, that was kind of fun.
00:28How about we do that for a living?
00:32Yeah, we just traded up. We're picking you.
00:35You're an Eagle. Congrats, brother. Let's do it.
00:38How about that?
00:40On my SiriusXM radio show, I asked Eagles general manager Howie Roseman
00:45when he started picking up the phone to trade up for Makai Lemon.
00:49Well, for being totally transparent, it wasn't like we were just trying to get to 20.
00:53We were trying to get ahead of that pick as well because when you feel really strongly about a player,
00:58you think at every pick he's going.
00:59And so you've got this kind of heartbeat going through when you hear the pick is in
01:04and you've got to look.
01:05We get it about a couple of seconds before on our computer screen and you get it.
01:10And a lot of times I'm veering over Jeffrey because I don't put it on my computer.
01:14I let him have it on his computer next to me.
01:16And I'm veering over his shoulder trying to figure out, you know, who's going.
01:20And so, you know, to say that we were willing to sit there and just get ahead of Pittsburgh, it
01:25wouldn't be true.
01:25We were trying to get up. We were trying to get the player.
01:28It so happened that we got in front of them.
01:30Certainly, they were one of the teams that we thought would be in the mix.
01:35But more importantly for us than who anyone else wants, it's who we want and who we want to go
01:41get.
01:41And we wanted to get the player.
01:43Man, I couldn't get enough of that.
01:46Howie Roseman, the incredible executive vice president and general manager on my Sirius XM radio show
01:51on Shine On Sports on Mad Dog Sports Radio.
01:54And listen, he gave us a lot there where if you're a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, you got to
02:00love sports.
02:01First and foremost, he told us that he tried to trade up the second the Rams picked Simpson.
02:09Because he thought, I thought, everybody thought, Lemon out of USC would stay in Southern California
02:16and go to the LA Rams.
02:18But once that didn't happen, go time.
02:22Finding a way to work the phones and get his guy.
02:25And look, I think that Lemon is going to be terrific.
02:27I think when you look at, you know, what he did in college with his hands and his speed
02:33and his yak and big plays and big moments and big games.
02:37I mean, it was just incredible if you're a fan of college football.
02:41And now what he's going to be in the pros.
02:45Also, during the conversation with Howie Roseman, he was smart and obviously didn't say,
02:52well, Adam, we're going to trade A.J. Brown.
02:54But we talked about knowing when to hold him, when to fold him in terms of veteran players.
02:59And he basically painted the picture on why it's time to trade A.J. Brown.
03:05And how you know how to build a team with guys like Devontae Smith and guys that you draft.
03:11And then you fill out the rest of the roster with trades and free agency.
03:16And, you know, they're pieces.
03:17And listen, A.J. Brown, phenomenal deal.
03:21Four years ago, they got him from Tennessee, traded a first round pick.
03:25And in four years, A.J. Brown was first or second team all pro.
03:30And three of those four years.
03:32And won a Super Bowl.
03:33So that's a win.
03:34That's a monster win.
03:35And now it's time.
03:37And it's time to cut the cord.
03:39And it's time to make a trade.
03:40And, you know, it's time to move on.
03:43So here's Lemon.
03:44Here's Wicks.
03:46Here's Hollywood Brown.
03:48And the Eagles are still going to be in position to go out and do some special things.
03:53They go make the trade for Jonathan Gennard, who is a terrific rusher.
03:58They gave the fifth-year option, picked up the fifth-year option for Jalen Carter.
04:02By the way, I didn't get the sense of talking to Howie that it's a lot that Jalen Carter
04:07is going to be in Philly long term.
04:09But they know how to replenish and how to dominate.
04:12And this is something where if you're a fan of another team in the NFC East, it just drives
04:17you nuts because Howie's so great at his job.
04:20And they just have this unbelievable ability to handle adversity, to replenish, to have a
04:27plan, to adjust to the plan when need be.
04:29Now, Roseman also told me at the end of the day he is not happy here with regards to all
04:36the critics and the haters and everyone who's been ripping Jalen Hurts, that article that
04:42was on ESPN.com.
04:44Now, Jalen needs to play better.
04:45This is my take, right?
04:47I mean, especially, you know, those over-the-middle throws.
04:49That's the strength of Makai Lemon, who I believe is going to be the next Alman Ross St.
04:54Brown.
04:54So, a lot of pressure on Hurts this year.
04:57New offensive coordinator Sean Mannion comes in.
04:59There's no way, in my opinion, I thought this forever, and especially after talking to
05:03Howie Roseman on my SiriusXM radio show, there's no way AJ Brown's going to be on the team.
05:09The Eagles know exactly what they're doing at all times.
05:12I am just obsessed.
05:14I'm impressed.
05:15I can't get enough.
05:16It's Howie Roseman's world.
05:18We're just living it.
05:19I don't look at the Eagles as a Super Bowl team this year.
05:21Division's going to be tough.
05:22Wouldn't be surprised if Dallas won the division.
05:25I'm very high on the Cowboys this year.
05:27Giants with Harbaugh.
05:29Here's a shot.
05:30They're going to be a really good to great team.
05:32Win eight to ten games.
05:33I don't think that's, you know, crazy in any way, shape, or form.
05:36Washington had a phenomenal draft.
05:38Don't love Dan Quinn.
05:40Don't love that team.
05:41But, still have Jaden Daniels, obviously.
05:43And again, that draft for Washington was really strong.
05:46But man, the Eagles.
05:47I mean, you write their epitaph on your time.
05:51On your terms.
05:53I will never do that as long as our guy Howie Roseman is in charge.
05:57Now, this morning on my SiriusXM radio show,
06:00I talked to Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy about the very latest on Aaron Rodgers.
06:06What can you tell us about the latest with Aaron?
06:08I'm sure you guys are in communication.
06:11Did you talk before the rare tender was placed on him on Monday?
06:16What's the latest with Aaron?
06:18Definitely.
06:18I mean, this is all part of the process that we've discussed all along.
06:23Yes, we're consistently in communication.
06:28So, he's where he should be right now.
06:31You know, he's taking the time, you know, personally.
06:34The things he wanted to accomplish in his personal life.
06:37But yes, I'm sure him and I will talk in the near future.
06:40Yeah, number one, I think the fit is excellent.
06:43I mean, you could see that, you know, from afar.
06:46I mean, I watched, you know, most of the Steelers games last year as a fan.
06:51You know, I watched the Steelers and the Packers and the Cowboys last year, you know, just as much as
06:56I can.
06:57So, I was able to watch it as a fan.
06:58And I thought he fit in, you know, very well, you know, even with, you know, you know, based on
07:04the time that he, you know, he actually came to, came to the Steelers.
07:08So, I thought it was a good fit.
07:09And then, you know, now being here, you can just see the respect and how the locker room feels about
07:14him.
07:14So, I do know for a fact that it would be, you know, a great thing to have him back,
07:19you know, just purely as the quarterback of the team.
07:22And frankly, it's something that him and I have talked about.
07:24We've talked exclusively about what a great final chapter this could be, you know, for both of us.
07:32Man, I just love that.
07:33And Mike McCarthy was incredible this morning with me on my Sirius XM radio show.
07:38And he certainly gave us a lot there.
07:41And if you're a Steelers fan, this is all great stuff.
07:43First of all, the rare tender that was placed on Aaron Rodgers, and this to me is supremely important, Rodgers
07:51in the loop, right?
07:52This was not something that, you know, Adam Schefter broke the story and, you know, Rodgers didn't know it was
07:58happening.
07:59Mike McCarthy told me he gave Rodgers the heads up on it, right?
08:02It's a rare tender, obviously.
08:04It protects the Pittsburgh Steelers just in case Rodgers wants to sign with a different team.
08:09I don't think that's going to be the case, and Mike doesn't think that's going to be the case either.
08:13I also think when you listen to Mike McCarthy talk about Rodgers, fits in an offense where he won a
08:20couple MVPs.
08:21They won a Super Bowl together, but also the McCarthy guys that Mike brought in, right?
08:29Rico Dowdle, who ran the ball brilliantly for Mike in Dallas and just had a career year in Carolina.
08:34And I think Aaron Rodgers will love him.
08:37And when I say McCarthy guys, think about someone who's tough, like Michael Pittman Jr.
08:42Think about Rodgers, Green Bay, Pittsburgh Jets when he would get angry at guys who don't run the right routes.
08:49I mean, Michael Pittman Jr., he's just so precise when it comes to running the right routes and taking care
08:55of business and execution on third down and in the red zone.
08:59That's the kind of guy Rodgers will absolutely love.
09:02So I think it's important here to note that everyone involved is on the same page.
09:08That, to me, is supremely important, especially when you're talking about Aaron Rodgers.
09:13He knows McCarthy.
09:14They had an unbelievable relationship.
09:16Not perfect at all times, but an unbelievable relationship.
09:19Did a lot of special things, individual awards for Rodgers, winning a Super Bowl in Green Bay.
09:24Mike's got a street named after him in Green Bay.
09:27I mean, he's an accomplished coach, not to mention three straight years in Dallas, won 12 games.
09:33No coach has done that since Jimmy Johnson offered Jared Jones.
09:37So that's a big deal.
09:39And I think that with Mike McCarthy, the Pittsburgh Steelers, we have better position to win playoff games.
09:44You know, Mike Tomlin was just on with Maria Taylor on NBC.
09:48He's going to work for NBC this year, Football Night in America on Sunday Night Football on the pregame show.
09:52And Tomlin admitted one of the reasons he's not there anymore is because of what happened in the playoffs.
09:57Mike McCarthy with Aaron Rodgers will put Pittsburgh in a better spot to win playoff games.
10:04I thought they had a great offseason.
10:06I think if you get past the shock and awe, and we talked to McCarthy about this,
10:11and it was dramatic and it was problematic, you know, the fact that they didn't get Lemon.
10:15You wouldn't have known it or felt as awful as you did if, you know, the cameras weren't rolling.
10:21You just heard what Harry Roseman told us.
10:23It's not like he, you know, there's some kind of conspiracy theory, right?
10:27He was starting to make a call starting at 14 to go up and get Lemon.
10:30So the cameras caught that all happening.
10:34But as McCarthy told me, the offensive lineman that they drafted Max at Arizona State was put on planet Earth
10:40to be a Pittsburgh Steeler offensive lineman.
10:43That's about as great an endorsement as you can get.
10:46You know, he also told me he views Will Howard as a future starter in the NFL.
10:50So a lot of incredible nuggets from McCarthy today.
10:54But man, I was okay to dream today if you're a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
11:00And McCarthy said he told Rodgers that, you know, this would be a great final chapter for Rodgers,
11:06for McCarthy together individually in Pittsburgh.
11:10Great appreciation for NFL history.
11:13And I just think that if they can make sweet music together this year,
11:17and anyone who said Rodgers is washed is not paying attention.
11:21Don't talk to me about the Texans playoff game.
11:23Houston's defense does that to everybody.
11:24Go back to week 18 game 17 where Rodgers went throw for throw and was phenomenal going up against Lamar
11:33Jackson.
11:34It was a main reason why Pittsburgh found a way to make the playoffs.
11:37That was inspiring.
11:38He could absolutely do that again.
11:40So that's my expectation that Rodgers plays and Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers,
11:47win a playoff game this year.
11:49And that would be a great step in the right direction for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
