00:00What's going on, guys?
00:01Oh, hey, hey, hey.
00:03Well, listen, I just want to go ahead and start with really the big story of the week
00:07as far as the behind-the-scenes and what the hell's going on.
00:10This Jalen Hurts story with the Eagles and how his medicals were discovered,
00:17handled, him going on a plane to Nick Sirianni's press conference
00:21and having to answer questions.
00:23How do you see all of this playing out, Adam, from what you're hearing behind the scenes?
00:27What is being talked about right now regarding the Philadelphia Eagles?
00:32You know, the NFLPA wants an investigation done.
00:35The NFL feels like it was compliant with the rules.
00:42Roger Goodell says he welcomes an investigation.
00:46And, again, I think right now there's probably more unanswered questions
00:52than there are answers.
00:54I think that that's pretty clear right now.
00:58And, you know, we don't know where this is going to go.
01:01Like, to me, it's continued to take turns all along the way.
01:05Like, he was in the hospital the night before in London,
01:09the night before they played Jacksonville.
01:14And you had a situation where they did the testing,
01:17and they felt like they were doing what was responsible.
01:22They got back in an ultrasound, thought it would come back routine.
01:26It didn't.
01:27The blood clot had moved.
01:30And, obviously, once that happens, then you've got real issues.
01:35Then they thought they could control that.
01:37And they found out on Saturday that there were multiple blood clots
01:41that had traveled to his lungs, placed him on IR, out for the year,
01:47lots of questions.
01:49I don't have all the answers right now.
01:52I just want to ask you, Adam, how often do players play
01:55when the team knows that that player has a blood clot?
02:01I don't know the answer to that.
02:03I think it's probably uncommon.
02:06I think it's never happened would be wrong.
02:10But I don't think that that's probably very common.
02:14Do you think that Jalen Hurts would have any kind of recourse?
02:19Could he possibly sue the team or the NFL if he knew that they had
02:26mishandled all of this with his medicals and they put him in harm's way?
02:31Well, of course, if he felt that way, he could.
02:34But if you'll notice, on Monday, when his agent released the statement,
02:38his agent released the statement on Eagles' letterhead in conjunction
02:43and partnership with the team.
02:46They certainly feel like they're on the same page
02:48and they've been making statements together, going through testing together.
02:52Could it turn out that he decides to do that?
02:54Sure.
02:55But that hasn't been the indication up until now.
03:00Speaking of the medicals, Adam, over to the Patriots,
03:01they've got a bunch of guys that are banged up here or on IR.
03:05Can you give us anything new on – I guess we know A.J. Brown's going to play here,
03:09but how about Romeo Dobbs, Matt Collins, and some of the other walking wounded?
03:13Well, we know Romeo Dobbs is on IR, out for a minimum of four weeks.
03:17Matt Collins is on IR.
03:18He's out for a minimum of four weeks.
03:22They're without their receivers,
03:23and so DeMario Douglas will have a bigger role,
03:25and we'll see how the rest of the players perform.
03:27Were you surprised A.J. came back as soon as he did?
03:30Obviously, his performance was not outstanding this past weekend.
03:34No, I think we talked about the fact that everything that I had heard was he was –
03:39I don't want to say ahead of schedule because he's on IR.
03:42That was the schedule, but I think when it initially came out,
03:45people were saying, what, six to eight weeks,
03:47and it turned to be, what, four or five weeks.
03:50So, he healed at a rather brisk clip and was able to get back out there,
03:55though he didn't struggle while he was out there.
03:57Okay, Adam, I'm going to ask this question before my co-host asks the question,
04:01and that is the gratuitous question we almost ask you every single week is,
04:04now that Bill Belichick is four and two at UNC,
04:06he's coming off a huge win versus Duke.
04:09Duke, I mean, a major, major win.
04:11Do you think that maybe there would be an NFL team
04:14and he wouldn't be an enticing hire for a team?
04:16Like, say, I don't know, maybe the Cowboys that are at right now two and four.
04:20Do you think there would be any interest in Bill Belichick
04:21as a head coach next year in the NFL?
04:25I've always thought that teams should be interested.
04:27The problem is teams haven't been interested.
04:31So, I mean, we can continue to wish it to happen,
04:36but it hasn't happened in the last two years.
04:38That doesn't mean that candidates can't all of a sudden get hired.
04:41You know, when they give him a no and they're not interested,
04:44that's not a permanent no, but Bill gets another year older every year
04:49and he's been out of the league in another year.
04:54And, yeah, of course it could happen, of course.
04:57But, again, the NFL would have to change its stance.
05:00There would have to be a team that would show more interest
05:04than any team has in the last couple of years for that to happen.
05:09Or would it have to be Bill Belichick would have to change his standards
05:12as to what kind of control he has of the team?
05:14Like, if he agreed to just be the coach.
05:16I don't think that ever would have been an issue.
05:21That's me.
05:21But maybe I'm delusional, right?
05:23I don't think that – I know that's a perception out there.
05:28But that's not what Bill has told people.
05:32He's not.
05:35So, again, I know people can think he wants to run the whole thing,
05:40but that's not what he said to other people.
05:42Really?
05:42So he would have been open to just being the coach and that's it
05:46and not having any more power outside of that?
05:50When and where?
05:51What are we talking about?
05:52I'm talking about to return to the NFL.
05:54Like, before he went and coached at UNC,
05:56you're telling me that you had heard that he didn't ask for anything more
05:59other than a position as coach, not any kind of power as GM.
06:04That was the only thing that you're saying that he wanted?
06:08My understanding is that he would have been very happy being just a coach, yes.
06:13Interesting.
06:13Okay, well, that is definitely not the public perception.
06:16So, Adam, thanks for clearing that up.
06:18I do want to ask you about – no team is more shocking this season than the Chargers.
06:22It's truly – I would have never predicted this.
06:25This is why the NFL season is so wild.
06:27What are you hearing about the patience that the Chargers are having with Jim Harbaugh
06:30and Mike McDaniel – Mike McDaniel, that's right.
06:36By week, it's Wednesday.
06:37They haven't done anything.
06:39So, that would seem to indicate that they are not making any drastic changes this week.
06:47I mean, I guess they could always do it Thursday or Friday.
06:49But you guys know the NFL time schedule.
06:52Like, if a team is going to make a change in a by week,
06:54it usually does it the day after a game.
06:57Nothing happened Monday.
06:58Nothing happened Tuesday.
07:00Wednesday, Wednesday, 3.54.
07:02Nothing happened.
07:04So, again, nothing could happen.
07:08But I don't think Jim Harbaugh is going anywhere.
07:10You know, Mike McDaniel is on a pricey contract that the Dolphins are largely paying.
07:15That's an easy contract to remove themselves from.
07:19So, if that's the change they want to make, whenever they want to make it,
07:23that's a simple one to make.
07:25But they've been the most disappointing team in the NFL this year.
07:30Tomorrow night, Adam, it's Drake May and Caleb Williams.
07:33This is a hypothetical, but if you called a bunch of GMs around the league
07:36and asked them to start a franchise with one of these guys now,
07:38who do you think would win that vote?
07:42I think it probably depends on the week.
07:44There are certain weeks that Caleb looks like he'd be the guy.
07:46The weeks that Drake May would be the guy.
07:48Two weeks ago, everybody would have picked Caleb.
07:50Now you're asking me that question, and some people will pick Drake.
07:53So, the fact of the matter is that two great quarterbacks, I think teams would be happy with both.
07:57What have they done to unlock Caleb?
07:59It seems like this year he's made some real strides, particularly with the passing, you know,
08:03percentage, completion percentage.
08:05He made the strides last year, too, I think.
08:07I mean, maybe the completion percentage wasn't as high, but the way he played,
08:11they won the division, they won games, they made a playoff run.
08:15And I just think he's working with Ben Johnson,
08:17and it's unlocked a different version of him, period, over the two years.
08:21Hey, Adam, I don't want to blow up your spot, but I think you live out in Colorado.
08:25And I'm just curious, what are people saying out there about Bo Nix,
08:29the play of Bo Nix, and the partnership between him and Sean Payton?
08:33Yeah, I know people are down on Bo Nix.
08:35They're not happy with the way he's playing.
08:37He needs to play better.
08:38But the fact of the matter is, again, they still believe in him.
08:42I know other people have raised questions.
08:45We'll see if Bo Nix can get it straightened out before the end of the year.
08:48Again, like with Drake, there were people questioning him a few weeks ago.
08:52Got it turned around playing well, questions go away.
08:54But it's up to Bo Nix to silence those doubts and questions that are now out there.
08:59All right.
08:59Thank you, Adam Schefter.
