00:00it's interesting like there's i don't know about 10 wins that is that is going from five wins to
00:0510 wins that is a that's a pretty hefty amount to kind of to jump but do i think it's
00:12outlandish
00:12to say the browns could be in the mix in the you know seven eight nine ten range of the
00:19afc this
00:20year i don't and i think the only real thing you can say is well but the quarterback spot which
00:25is
00:26fair but i look at the rest of the roster and the rest of the roster is is a lot
00:31better than i think
00:32people might realize well we just don't i mean we don't even know who the quarterback is is the hard
00:35part i'm having with this like i i want to give it an honest assessment i want to really try
00:39to find
00:39what exactly i think this team is i think the defense will take a step back from last year i
00:43think losing schwartz is a part of that even if it's a lot of the same actual players i just
00:47think
00:47that's a reality and i i don't know i don't know how this offensive line is going to work but
00:51it's
00:51got to be better than what it was last year and i would think the receivers are going to be
00:54better
00:54than what it was last year so you have to at least start at five and go upwards i just
00:58think
00:59like i think there are a lot of people treating this like it's outlandish if today you're thinking
01:03to yourself you can see you can see the browns being an eight win team next year which is a
01:07three win adjustment that's a nice step forward is is 10 really that outlandish not in the nfl these
01:14days uh we just have way too many teams that have outlier seasons one way or another now i guess
01:19if you want to say that they're consistently going to be a 10 win season maybe that's a different
01:22conversation oh yeah yeah i mean we uh i that is that's got to be proven right you didn't do
01:29it
01:29during the baker stefanski dashawn era so you the browns have to prove that they can be functional for
01:36that long but like functional for a season functional and man is that part of the fun of the nfl
01:43is that
01:43the idea that in any given season you can have uh just a different collection of games that kind of
01:49go your way or you're on the right side of whether that's fumble recoveries and turnovers and all of
01:55a sudden you're looking up and you're like yeah you found a you found a team that was vegas right
01:59now says six and a half wins that ended up winning nine games it's not unheard of and it's just
02:03not
02:03that hard to have a functional offense i think we've been so beaten down over the last two years
02:08offensively yeah we have that we think it's some herculean task to be acceptable on offense we've had
02:14in two different seasons we've had streaks of trying to just get to 20 points yeah oh no no that
02:19have exceeded way more than what any team should ever have to go through i get it but i think
02:23that's
02:23where it's it's it's not haterism but it's certainly the reverse homerism where we have this recency bias
02:30that that you know competitiveness in the nfl is some far-fetched thing some unattainable thing
02:36plenty of teams go right around 500 with uncertain quarterback positions i mean look at i mean aaron
02:42rogers was not it wasn't very good last year it wasn't very and they were a playoff team yeah
02:47and it's funny i thought steelers too in this discussion well yeah consistently this is a great
02:52point good keep making it oh you got it the chores go ahead because it's not even just last year
02:56it's
02:56like the last decade yeah and and where do they spend all their money defensive side of the ball
03:00they consistently have a top defense mixed with a questionable quarterback spot post ben
03:06roethlisberger and an offense that is at the end of the day pretty underwhelming all things
03:10considered and they always end up out of the playoffs first round but they're in the playoffs
03:15now if we're being honest i don't love the look at me louis doing their flip-flopping and now because
03:24browns fans are excited now suddenly they're excited thing i don't love that that feels like i have
03:30suffered you can understand you want it to be your corner is that what you're saying i think i get
03:34credit you get yes it's your corner if you want it i since january i've seen and again which i
03:40still
03:40think was incredibly early to make the bet that you made it's not that hard though i know but it
03:44is hard it is hard though because we don't know what the quarterback is going to be but it's not
03:48hard for other organizations my my answer on all this completely changes if you're telling me it's
03:52deshaun watson at quarterback or shador sanders at quarterback in week one i don't think deshaun
03:56can do anything if you tell me deshaun watson's the quarterback week one i'm siding more with vegas at
04:01six and a half i think they're telling me it's your door sanders i might have a different answer
04:04for you i they have okay i don't believe in quarterback proofing nfl teams because at some
04:10point the nfl is going to correct your ass if you've got something something rotten at quarterback
04:16or something the saints built their whole team around trying to quarterback proof as you're
04:20describing it here and uh spencer rattler was spencer rattler still and then tyra shuck came in and
04:24all of a sudden it looked much better now i do think if you can just get a certain level
04:30of
04:30functional from whatever quarterback there is and i don't know this is where i i don't think
04:36you'll ever get anything quality of deshaun again but do i think deshaun can mimic what a nfl
04:42quarterback looks like he has been in the nfl a decade right and again that's the guy i have the
04:47least amount of faith in him and him and dylan okay it's really shador's the only guy that i have
04:52an amount of faith in yeah but like shador doesn't have to be perfect if shador actually wins the job
04:58and he just makes plays and and can make more good plays than bad plays which i'm sure we'll be
05:05tracking that's a recipe with this team because the other big thing is i agree like the best things
05:11you can give to a young quarterback are a stout healthy offensive line that knows how to play
05:16together so that that's a little bit on george warhop and the the run blocking side of things
05:20sorry not the run blocking but the kind of coordination of marrying the run and pass as it were
05:26but the the second the next best thing you can give them is that defense and i agree that i
05:32think
05:33it makes sense that the defense isn't going to be what it was last year that doesn't mean it can't
05:38still be a good defense and so you like my problem last year was you weren't giving enough you you
05:45know
05:46like you need some mix of i need an elite running back an elite wide receiver elite offensive line or
05:52that defense to overcome all of that at quarterback and i think you can at least maybe split the
06:00difference on not having a franchise quarterback especially when you factor in the one of the
06:06easiest schedules in the nfl yeah but it is going to annoy me like the guys today that have the
06:12real
06:12courage to be like oh i actually see an eight win team you know they're going to be at 10
06:16wins in july
06:17or 10 wins in september i thought it's going to come back down i thought they're going to all of
06:21a
06:21sudden be speaking eight nine and then potentially 10 and then by the time we get to training camp
06:25it'll be back down to i don't know the seven or eight not a chance in hell nope if you're
06:30if the
06:31if the week after the draft you're saying eight wins or if you're saying i'm going to add a couple
06:35more wins very nebulous very specific yeah um i'm gonna say that you you don't get less optimistic
06:42once you get to training i think people i think people riding a high from this weekend though i think
06:46this weekend uh surprised a lot of people especially how aggressive they were we knew they'd be
06:51aggressive towards the offense it's what they've been telling us for months but to see them actually
06:55do it i think did surprise some people and i think they're riding a high from a weekend i i
06:59want to
07:00know what happens when we actually get these quarterbacks going and it looks like we can see
07:03what munkin is doing and then i want to see where the optimism is i just as a i'm just
07:07going to make
07:08an observation very rarely have i seen uh but it's a media specifically get into training camp and go
07:15i don't know you're not wrong but but there's you know this we had people telling us the offense was
07:21not functional but there's always there's always the preseason we still have people saying 10 win
07:25super it's a roller coaster you know this and after the draft is typically when you have that
07:30same training camp spike up that's the same type of conversation you always have this after the
07:35problem with this roller coaster is the draft it continues to go up for a lot of people for a
07:40lot
07:40who are maybe you know faking it to to you know appease themselves to the fans and get over with
07:45the fans i'm not saying who that could be it could be a lot of people that could be a
07:47lot of people
07:48at 216-474-0092 and here's i is 10 wins really that outlandish because you would have thought emory
07:55hunt said the browns were winning the super bowl the browns are going to win the next three super
07:59bowls with the way people reacted to him saying the ceiling for this team was 10 wins it's also not
08:06some crazy benchmark i know it feels like that because we haven't we're not consistently there at 10
08:10wins but like 10 wins is it sounds like a lot it's really in the big picture of things not
08:15especially
08:16if you're one of these 10 win teams that are just an immediate first round exit without a chance to
08:20go deep in the playoffs like it's not it's not that crazy would i bet on it happening no but
08:26it's not
08:26that crazy does feel like a lot of fans and i'm glad at this development have pivoted off 2027
08:33and they're not in the i guess we're just gonna stink that was miserable like there were parts of and
08:39honestly it was the other media members that's okay now i'm really gonna start acting just firing
08:44shots in every direction what i mean is i really got annoyed at how many people just before the
08:49offseason prevailed before the offseason unveiled itself were remarkably negative well we had to see
08:57them actually make these changes we had to see them actually go through this offensive line rehaul
09:01and then also address the wide receivers the way that they did there's legitimately going to be six
09:05new pieces on offense as far as starters are concerned that is a massive changeover and i i
09:11don't i don't doubt any fans that were skeptical about whether or not the browns were going to
09:14commit to that i i don't doubt fans because fans are i i really mean this fans should be allowed
09:19to
09:19think whatever the hell you want because you guys put your money on the line you guys spend your sundays
09:23you guys spend uh time money and aggravation on dealing with this i do think it was a little hip
09:30to get back to the idea of the uh the cynical cleveland media member who could just sneer about
09:37the organization they just spent the past two years not really giving us much hope though i mean it's
09:41not like it's not as if they were really trying hard for the previous two years but i think the
09:44idea that this whole thing reverted all the way back to who the browns were before barry and
09:49stefanski showed up that was because they fired your boy no but because not your boy but because they
09:54fired previous two years kevin stefanski he was such a steady eddie yeah and he steadily sucked
09:59the last two years and the previous two years though gave nobody enough confidence in the idea
10:03that they were going to actually try and do something like it just it hadn't the the confidence
10:08that this team would make a real run or at least attempt to fix the offense this offseason it was
10:12depleted because you won three games and then five games in back-to-back seasons where you didn't
10:16really do much yeah but you did take a step forward this last year by getting to five wins
10:22like there was there were reasons for encouragement namely the defense but like
10:27it's not that hard to get a functional offensive line in in in a wide receiver group that actually
10:33deserves to be starting in the nfl right but they showed us that they would do it when they want
10:37to
10:37and i think where a lot of the pessimistic uh nature came in was that we didn't know when exactly
10:41the
10:41browns wanted to we didn't know if they were going to go and be like hey draft let's get two
10:46of our
10:46first three picks on wide receivers i just you just you had no way of knowing that you did
10:51they had needs they were like that like the whole they had needs last year too and then they took
10:57mason graham on the defensive line at pick number five overall i think that you needed a wide receiver
11:01but but i think i don't think your needs were as defined last year where that's before you drafted
11:07phantom that's before you drafted swessinger after retirement you didn't need a wide receiver you
11:11needed a wide receiver you needed everything last year your needs were your needs were clearly
11:16you knew you had an offensive line and you needed a wide receivers this year you knew going into last
11:21year's draft you knew what they needed they but they they they had number five overall what defense
11:25again like there was they needed a running back they needed a tight end like they had they they just
11:30had more needs last year this year i think it was easier to forecast what they were going to do
11:34because it was so obvious what the immediate needs were just to get back to functionality yeah but i i
11:41even
11:41within this convo like i i listen if you want to be uh pessimistic about what 2026 is i'm not
11:46going
11:46to stand in your way uh we don't know what these wide receivers are we don't know if the offensive
11:50line they even got is a good offensive line they addressed it because they had to but ultimately
11:54like we do have to swing i think maybe we swung the conversation too far with 10 wins and the
11:58optimism attached to this i'm not saying they should win 10 games this year i'm much more in the
12:02seven eight nine range for for brown's wins but i like honestly listening to people talk about this
12:10team with that traditional cleveland media sneer it has felt like playing the hits it's felt
12:17incredibly lazy when the offseason was in front of them and when they showed you that they were
12:22willing to spend on the offensive line whether you think they spent well or not that's showing a
12:27commitment to this year that half of those same people sneered through that it was all about 2027
12:34it might end up being at some point this year all about 2027 more odds on the not is that
12:39it's going
12:40to end up being about 2027 but like they didn't if no no because if it was all about 2027
12:45from here
12:45they would have found more aggressive trade outs to try and get something for 2027 if it's all about
12:5120 and this is another by the way miles is summer is a great way to tell if if at
12:57any point miles does
12:58get shipped out this summer well then you know what i will have to take my l it is all
13:02about 2027
13:04i think the draft proves they're building a team for 2026 and beyond that felt good or that i mean
13:09rome wasn't built in a day they got to try to build as much as they can for 2027 with
13:13the idea that 2026
13:14is still coming and then they'll address and see who's going to make it to 2027
