New research has revealed a dangerous level of overconfidence across Britain when it comes to level crossings. The findings come as Network Rail and the British Transport Police launch the first industry-wide level crossing campaign to raise awareness of the dangers. Here are the Yorkshire and Humber stats.

00:29The films are part of the No Second Chances campaign by Network Rail and the British Transport Police,
00:35with new research revealing 78% of 18- to 34-year-olds across Yorkshire and the Humber are confident
00:41they know level crossing risks,
00:43but only 4% know how long it takes a train to stop.
00:47It takes approximately one mile for a train travelling at 80 miles an hour to come to a complete emergency
00:53stop,
00:53and that's not the fastest a train can travel on the network.
00:58More than one in five in the region don't remove headphones when at a level crossing.
01:02Network Rail is urging the public to always read the signs, follow instructions and obey lights and alarms.
01:11The campaign videos aim to highlight the distraction as a common risk at level crossings,
01:16particularly among adults aged 18-34 who are more likely to admit to behaviours that reduce awareness of their surroundings.
