Transpennine Route Upgrade rail engineering work will be undertaken throughout May and June, with significant disruption expected between Huddersfield and Leeds.
Transcript
00:00Rail passengers travelling between Leeds and Huddersfield are being advised to prepare for
00:05several weeks of disruption as major engineering work takes place as part of the Transpennine
00:10Route Upgrade Programme. Services along the line will be effected throughout May and June,
00:16while crews carry out track renewals, drainage improvements, bridgeworks, signalling upgrades
00:21and enhancements at stations along the corridor. In addition, trains will not call at Huddersfield
00:26on weekends during April to allow further construction to be completed safely. Rail operators
00:32say that wherever possible, customers will remain on trains using diversionary routes or
00:37services running as close as they can to the closure areas, although overall journey times
00:42are expected to change. In some instances, passengers will need to use rail replacement
00:47buses for part of their journey. Brighouse Station will operate as a rail and bus interchange point
00:53for those travelling to or from Huddersfield during the affected periods. The Brighouse Station
00:58car park will close from 30 April until 26 May to make space for replacement bus services.
01:06The programme also includes improvements to station accessibility, longer platforms to accommodate
01:11more carriages and upgraded signalling technology designed to improve overall reliability and reduce
01:17delays. Officials note that the work will support faster, more frequent services in the
01:23future and is part of a wider plan to create a lower emission, more sustainable railway across
01:28the north.
