00:00What is, when you reflect back on that, the process and where you are today, dude, running those miles backwards
00:06and all the work you did after practice, our three-hour practices, I mean, just reflect on how that moment
00:13was for you when you got drafted.
00:15Yeah, you know, I remember that so well. I tell people all the time, I say, I should have sued
00:22Flavor. Flavor, that's my boy, but he stole my gig. You know, I was the first one wearing that clock
00:28around my neck. I kept that clock right there. That's all, I was going to will myself somehow to that
00:36number. I just, I would be taking a test and the clock would move and I'd look at it like,
00:42yeah, yeah, all right.
00:43Even in the midst of my biology, every test, all I was thinking about, I got to get a 45
00:49and I'm running out. Because all the times I've been running in the neighborhood, like you said, running with that
00:5540-pound vest on, four miles forward, two miles backwards, I always said to myself, I got to run. I'm
01:03going to run my family out of this ghetto. I'm going to run us out of this hellhole.
01:07And then it came down to all I have to do is run 4.5 seconds. That's it. That's it.
01:144.5 seconds and a 40-yard dash and I'm going to run right up out of here. So I
01:19play with that, live with that and push myself towards that.
01:24But then when I go back home now and I went walking around my old neighborhood, I still own that
01:30home and I see the marks in the road where I used to train. It's just, it's an incredible thing.
01:36Think about it. I was nine years old and I'm wondering, well, what kind of life will I have?
01:42Then I go back, I'm 59 years old, 50 years later and life's been great. You know, life's been great.
01:51So now I know. Now I know.
01:54Every time you walk on Green Tree, our practice field, what do you think when you walk on Green Tree?
02:00Because to me, that's where champions are made and that's where legends are made.
02:05That is the key too, Dan. And then I was, man, man, I was, when I'm over there the other
02:11day, when I'm over there the other day, because I told you, I went to that pro day, right?
02:17And then, you know, it's very important for me, if I'm going to be on that sideline, that the key
02:24is no, okay, all right, this means something.
02:28So I had to be, I had to be at the pro day. And then I have to show up
02:34at this first practice. So when I come to a kid and say, let's go, I don't want them saying,
02:40get out of my face.
02:41Who the hell are you? I'll be able to say, I was there from the beginning. Let's go. I know
02:46what you can do. You see what I mean?
02:47It's important that they see you there early, not just showing up on game day, because if you just show
02:56up on game day, they won't receive it.
02:58But if they see you're there first practice, you're there when they're doing things and it's not all the cameras
03:06are on and you're talking, then that gives you the credibility and the ability to talk to them.
03:12But then this is what I tell them, D. This is what I tell them. Listen, man, everything that happens
03:16out here, everything that happens out here determines how things will happen out there.
03:22You know what I mean? When you win a green tree, that's what we did. You win a green tree.
03:29You win on game day. You win in life.
03:34This is what we're doing. And then when we get close games, I say this is not just a game.
03:40This determines how you live the rest of your life.
03:43Are we going to win this? Are we going to be winners? Or we're not? Are we going to be
03:47losers? And that's what it did. That's what you got to know. You got to tell them that. I love
03:52it. I love it, D.
