00:01Telecoms firm BT has been refused permission to install digital display screens on a busy Leeds
00:07road. Concerns were raised that a street hub installation would distract motorists
00:12on Roundhay Road. The hubs are designed to replace payphones and have USB charging,
00:18Wi-Fi and an emergency services button. BT said the screens would carry advertising
00:23at the site near the junction with Beck Road. The council has refused the application for
00:29planning permission and advertising consent. The highways department formally objected,
00:35saying there was a history of traffic collisions in the area and advertisements at points where
00:40drivers need to take more care are more likely to affect public safety.
