Transcript
00:00Doo, doo, doo, doo.
00:02And it was like this futuristic thing
00:06with the keyboards and the synthesizers,
00:08which was kind of groundbreaking, really.
00:15Hey, what's happening?
00:15I'm Miles Kennedy with Metal Hammer.
00:17And these are my five favorite UK TV shows.
00:21My first memory of UK television was Doctor Who.
00:30As a child, and they would show it
00:33on our public broadcasting system.
00:35So that was the portal.
00:38And for me, the compelling, most compelling thing
00:41about it was the intro, was that the soundtrack was awesome.
00:48Doo, doo, doo, doo.
00:51And it was like this futuristic thing
00:54with the keyboards and the synthesizers,
00:56which was kind of groundbreaking, really,
00:58when it first came about.
00:59So for me, that was in the 80s when I discovered it.
01:02But if you go back and listen to the very first version of that,
01:06if I'm not mistaken, which is from the mid-60s,
01:08that was super ahead of its time.
01:10So mad props to whoever composed that soundtrack.
01:14Black Mirror.
01:17So that is a really cool show.
01:21I think I heard about it on some podcast.
01:23And it's just very, I don't know, groundbreaking, like, themes.
01:29It's all over the map, obviously.
01:30But I feel like when they're putting those together,
01:33they're always something special.
01:34One of my favorite episodes is 15 Million Merits, I believe is what it's called.
01:39It's when you're riding the bike and that, you know, like there's a stationary bike.
01:43And it's been a while since I saw that particular episode.
01:46But I remember it left a lasting impression.
01:47Those first few seasons were gold.
01:50So that would be my number four.
01:53A Place in the Sun.
01:54Yes, very comforting.
01:59There's just something about it.
02:01Both Selena and I, my wife, we, when we come over here, that's one of the,
02:05we're getting into the big three now for us, as far as like one of the things
02:10we really look forward to when we come over here is UK television.
02:13And there's something about A Place in the Sun.
02:16It's just easy to power down and just chill out and watch and relax.
02:21Escape to the country.
02:22It's the same exact thing.
02:23It's genius.
02:24And they, and it made us both really fall in love with, you know, we come to London
02:30all the time and, and, you know, Manchester and all the major cities, but like going out
02:35and seeing just how beautiful it is out there, it seems just so idyllic, you know?
02:41So that's a, that's an awesome show.
02:45Grand Designs, that's, we could talk this entire time about my love of Grand Designs.
02:52I think Kevin MacLeod is incredible.
02:56I love his, his commentary, so much insight and I'm kind of an architecture nerd.
03:03I do really like that sort of thing and I think what's fascinating is just when you see these
03:09people who have these dreams and some of the episodes are just, you know, they're shooting
03:15for the moon and they may not have what it, the things they need, like I guess from a financial
03:20standpoint or whatever it is to make it happen.
03:22But they, but they still have that perseverance to see it through to some degree.
03:26And it's, to me, it's inspiring.
03:28It's like highlights the human spirit and what it can, what it can do when you really
03:31want to achieve something.
03:33But what I also love is how they'll follow them for years.
03:37It's not a show where it's like, you know, it's just a week and they show up to a site
03:42and they've talked with, with the people who are building the house.
03:45I mean, they follow these folks for years.
03:47So you get to see each step of the way and the, and the heartbreak and then the joy when
03:52it comes together.
03:53And of course, when it, it's the very last day and he showed, I love the way he, he'll
03:59walk into a place and you can see how, how it'll affect him.
04:02And my dream someday would be to like, you know, be on Grand Designs and have Kevin walk
04:08through the front door and go, good job.
04:15And, and the way he's a little bit too.
04:19And I'll see you next time.
