The Transport Ministry on Monday (April 20) said the breakdown of the Baggage Handling System at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 on April 18 was caused by a power-related disruption.

00:09on Saturday was caused by a power-related disruption.
00:12They said a 132-kilovolt gas-insulated switchgear reserve at the Bukit Raja substation tripped at 4.54pm, resulting in
00:22a voltage dip that affected the airport operation, including the baggage handling system.
00:27They said the incident then led to a major system shutdown affecting baggage processing at the departure and arrival halls.
00:35They said the airport processed a total baggage volume of 23,769 pieces from 5pm to 10.30pm,
00:45and while the majority of operations continued, some 1,061 pieces of luggage were reported as short-shipped and 120
00:53pieces were identified under arrival handling loss.
00:57Malaysia Airport's Holdings Berhad and its ground-handling partners had delivered the vast majority of these items,
01:05with a small number of bags remaining in the final stages of clearance or collection.
01:10The Ministry said flight schedules were not affected, with no delays or cancellations reported due to the incident.
01:17They said they will table a Cabinet note on the incident on Wednesday,
01:21and the airport operator had been directed to provide weekly updates on the stabilisation of the baggage handling operation.
