00:00The water leakage incident at KLIA Terminal 1 on Friday was caused by a contractor's mistake
00:08during ongoing roof repair and waterproofing works.
00:11Malaysia Airport's Holdings Berhad, MAHB, said on Saturday that initial investigations
00:18found the leak occurred while major roof rehabilitation work was underway to address
00:23aging infrastructure.
00:25According to MAHB, the contractor had been sealing drainage channels on the rooftop
00:30when lightning activity intensified.
00:34Work was immediately stopped and workers evacuated for safety.
00:38However, in the rush to leave, the contractor failed to remove plywood boards used as temporary
00:43covers, blocking one of the roof drainage systems.
00:46The blockage stopped heavy rainwater from flowing out, causing water to pool on the rooftop
00:51and eventually seeped through the ceiling, affecting parts of the departure hall.
00:56MAHB's ground team managed to clean and secure the area within an hour and a half,
01:02and airport operations continued safely.
01:05The airport operator called the contractor's failure to follow basic protocols unacceptable
01:10and said firm action is being taken.
01:21The understandings were already working on the outside of the marine hygiene system.
