00:01Probably a 1-0 win against Birke Hampstead to move up to second in the league, thoughts on that?
00:06I thought it was a tough afternoon, it was almost the end of the season, everyone looks tired and rightly
00:12so on but the boys are slogging it out and take my hats off to them.
00:17Tempo is slightly slower than usual but the games have just been so relentless and thick and fast.
00:22Birke Hampstead, they're trying to hang on to the last playoff pace so you thought maybe they might have played
00:27at a slightly quicker tempo.
00:28I don't know, they were happy for a point, I'm not sure.
00:31I think that was them, the physical side, powerful up top but I didn't think we allowed them in behind.
00:38Especially in the first half and controlled the first 20 minutes and made them run hard.
00:44I think that paid off in the second half.
00:46In the second half, the space started to open up a bit and really picked on a bit in that
00:50second half and took a bit more control of the game.
00:54Yeah, in a spell. In a spell like when Daz and Matt McKenzie came and we made a couple of
00:59changes at half time like we said we would and the early subs straight away.
01:03And then yeah, we got our goal as it started to open up.
01:06But yeah, after that mark, the 65-70 minute mark, we looked really flat on our feet and we dug
01:12in to hold on.
01:13Yeah, good sort of character mentality to dig in. Presumably there is, much as you don't want to say it,
01:18I guess there is going to naturally be a bit of tiredness for so many games, just relentlessly at the
01:22moment, isn't there?
01:23I don't know.
01:23Yeah, we're trying to not make any excuse because we score so late in so many games like we did
01:28on Thursday night.
01:30But it's been a grueling couple of weeks.
01:33You know, Wednesday, Friday, Monday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
01:36And then we go again on Monday and Wednesday.
01:38So we're trying not to use the excuse and you know, winning is a great feeling and we're grinding them
01:42out.
01:42Yeah, and obviously you're managing obviously minutes as well aren't you? Obviously you have double stuff at half-time, presumably
01:47sort of pre-planned, you know, more on the hour mark as well.
01:50So we're just managing it and keeping everyone as fresh as I guess you can really.
01:53Yeah, yeah, it's difficult as well for the game flow to try and get a bit of consistency, especially when
01:59you're making like five subs as early as we are.
02:01I think five just after half-time on Thursday, then one falls before half-time and obviously two at half
02:06-time and two ten minutes later.
02:08So to try and get rhythm into the game and rhythm into the players is difficult.
02:12But, you know, they're adapting to it, they know the score, they know it's going to happen and yeah, it's
02:17working.
02:18Yeah, Joe Jackson had to come off late in the first half with an injury.
02:21I guess too early to know, sort of severity or that sort of thing really.
02:24Yeah, he went on a great run and as he's got a slight push in the back and as he's
02:28gone down, he's called a back number of players' blade
02:30and it's just nearly open just below quite a deep gash so he's going to get it glued and the
02:36position it's in, it could be a difficult one.
02:40And the message at half-time going into that second half?
02:43It was sort of do the same, we changed it a little bit, do the same, wait for it to
02:48open up and, you know, take our chances with the subs coming on.
02:52And that's what the game plan was before starting the game with Bob and Daz and Owen on the bench
02:56was to, when the game opens up, we get those chances and we took one.
03:01Whatever sort of team you go with, you've always got quality on the bench but you knew today, obviously, loads
03:05of qualities come on when needed really, wasn't there?
03:07Yeah, it was. We know what Berkham said about and how they fight for everything and you've got to compete
03:14with everything.
03:14We just thought it was the best way today with what we had on the bench to come on and
03:17win the game.
03:18And the goal, a good bit of quality from Billy Clifford to pick up Bobby Joe and he sort of
03:22drills that finish into the bottom corner like he does so many times really, doesn't he?
03:25Yeah, a good bit of play, it's a good goal. Like you say, Bill drove into the space and, you
03:30know, the quality of Bill and that's where you can see where he's played levels.
03:34He just bided his time and bided his time and yeah, Bob evolved and put it away.
03:39Last regular home game of the season, obviously, the playoffs have come but another sort of good turnout over, you
03:43know, nearly 850.
03:44You know, another good sort of day off the pitch as well there.
03:47Yeah, it's a great day, you know, it keeps building.
03:50Yeah, it's a tough one when it's the last game of the season because you want to put on a
03:52bit of a show.
03:53But unfortunately, with what we've had to go through it, we couldn't quite do that but we got the win.
03:58Yeah, obviously got the three points and obviously the bonus of lost or losing.
04:01You move up to second and, you know, the last two games, three points required would confirm that, obviously.
04:06Yeah, yeah, so we go again Monday. Obviously, we go down now and assess what we've got and, you know,
04:13it's a difficult one.
04:14You want to go and win the next one and get it done but you've got the cup final on
04:16Wednesday and you look at Tivert and at the bottom,
04:19is that going to be a banana skin with the semi-final? So, yeah, we're going to have a sit
04:22down and see what we've got and plan the weekend.
04:24Yeah, as I say, it's another relentless week but, you know, it's a position you want to be in, really.
04:28You know, you've earned the right, you know, to be second and be in a cup final on Wednesday. That's
04:32what you want, really, isn't it?
04:33Yeah, you know, that's what you get when you get successful but, yeah, I think it's been a little bit
04:38harsh on us with Surrey not moving this cup final with both teams having to do it.
04:42But, you know, that's the hand, like I say, that's the hand we've got and, yeah, we've just killed it.
04:45It was a really classy gesture from Taunton, actually, wasn't it, to move that game to Monday, wasn't it?
04:49Yeah, it was, yeah, fair play to them but, at the same time, I don't think there's too many options
04:53of where else you can play this game. So, yeah, cheers for that.
04:57I presume you've just got to, you know, manage the bodies and manage the minutes and just sort of, yeah,
05:01see how everyone sort of pulls up after today now, really.
05:03Well, yeah, I think, obviously, him struggling the last 15 minutes, could hardly run.
05:07He's done something to his knee and, obviously, he lost Joe Jackson. So, yeah, centre-half is a common issue.
05:13Yeah, don't know about any others coming back yet?
05:15Jack Dean, hopefully, soon, but the dead leg's so severe and the bleeding it.
05:21But, yeah, we hope to have him back by Wednesday.
05:23OK.
