00:00Here in Orange County, California. I'm here today to talk to you about ankle fractures and the
00:03rehabilitation process that follows. Ankle fractures involve the breaking of the bones
00:08of the ankle, being one bone or several. The first stage of rehab involves really restoring
00:14the range of motion, decreasing swelling, and pain. Oftentimes an individual is in a walking
00:19boot or cast. A physical therapist's job is to gently guide the patient into improving their
00:24load-bearing tolerance. Sometimes this happens early on or later, depending on the surgery.
00:28The second stage of therapy involves improving the strength, balance, and functional ability
00:33of the ankle, doing tasks like squatting, climbing stairs, or even walking. The third stage involves
00:39a little bit higher activities, such as maybe running, jumping, cutting, or heavier things
00:44with exercise, depending on what you want to get back to. So if you're struggling with an
00:49ankle fracture, feel free to click on the link below and see a physical therapy.
