00:07hello welcome to gangs all here my name is Ryan Sampson that's our Jets reader beat writer Brian
00:12Costello and that's my guy Frankie Viteriti from U Stadium today is Wednesday April 15
00:16fellas we are eight days away from the NFL draft officially starting I know all of us have draft
00:23fatigue but there is still a lot of talk and chatter about the Jets at number two when the
00:29draft really starts but before we get to any of that I'll start with Kaz how are you doing today
00:33eight days away how's it going ready for it to be here Ryan can't wait for it to begin I
00:40know that
00:40feeling too I'm sure Frankie feels the same way Frankie has it going buddy no not really man I
00:46like all these arguments we've been getting into and I've been getting into it's been fun man just
00:51you know getting attacked shooting out you know crazy tweets it's been it's been a good time well
00:56uh Ryan Ryan I went to the uh Badlands event over the weekend and I there was many a person
01:03mentioned Frankie to me Tanky V is quite the topic for amongst Jets fans Kaz I'm sure you got to
01:10see
01:10it firsthand how fans felt about his takes especially with the Reese and uh Bailey discussion yes yeah and
01:19many people tell me to put him in his place Ryan said that he's like when Kaz was there there
01:25was
01:25definitely a ton of people like telling him you better take care of that Frankie guy right
01:29definitely crap talking Frankie but listen Frankie's my guy I love some of it's warranted
01:33no I'll take I'll take bullets deservingly okay it is what it is Frankie's not afraid to speak his
01:39mind which I appreciate on this podcast as well uh but I know Kaz you also tell it like it
01:44is
01:44so look the Reese Bailey conversation is just not going anywhere it keeps getting more and more
01:50interesting I've seen the odds go heavily in favor from Reese to heavily in favor of Bailey now it's
01:55back to even money for both of these guys all the intel that we're seeing and hearing is just like
02:00you said on last week's episode Kaz it's all info outside the Jets organization from from scouts
02:07to coaches to other agents it just isn't the Jets coming out really with these reports these leaks
02:14that the Jets are leaning towards David Bailey um can you set the record straight here is there
02:19any other intel that you can push here to say it's we don't really know where the Jets can be
02:25leaning at too or is there actual credibility that Bailey might be the pick there for them
02:31I mean it's 50 50 in my opinion Ryan right I don't think it's I'd be I'd be shocked right
02:36now if it
02:36was Sonny Stiles or Caleb Downs or Jeremiah Love or anybody else like you pick I think it's those two
02:41guys so you kind of got a 50 50 shot here and you know people around the league are convinced
02:47that
02:48that's like this isn't made up they're convinced that they're going with David Bailey but I don't
02:53think it's because they know this I think it's uh maybe it's the scouting community is talking and
02:59that's what they're saying but you know I was talking to somebody from a team last night and
03:04they were kind of describing the process of like for their team is like basically right now the head
03:09coach and the GM are huddling and they're gonna huddle for like the next week and hash things out and
03:15come up with everything but no like they're not going to tell anyone else what their plan is
03:19including anyone in the building and then they'll probably bring ownership in you know next Wednesday
03:25or maybe Thursday during the day and then slowly they'll probably trickle around the building at
03:30that point I think the Jets process is probably something similar knowing how Mugi and Aaron Glenn
03:35work I'm sure you know Rick Spielman and Robbie Payton probably have some idea of Mugi's thinking but
03:40I don't think they're going to say any definitive until right before it the Jets are in a little bit
03:45different position than other teams because they're basically the start of the draft so they
03:49don't have to risk like losing the player you know what I mean like if you're picking seventh you're
03:53not going to say who you're picking because somebody could jump you the Jets we know Mendoza's going one
03:57so the Jets can kind of be a little more open about it but um still I don't think this
04:01is information
04:02that's coming from the Jets building I think this is people guessing outside the building and those odds are
04:08just based on what's being reported so you know to me odds in Vegas that means nothing other than
04:13just that they're compiling what's being reported out there uh but yeah it's it's it's interesting how
04:20firm people are on Bailey like when you talk people are convinced it's going to be Bailey
04:25um and you know would you be buying those reports at all you think or you think again it's just
04:29it's
04:30really speculation it's speculation but here's the here are the two reasons that people give you when
04:35you press them on like why Bailey over Reese one is AG's job security right they're saying
04:41Aaron Glenn needs to win he needs to win now he he needs a player who's going to be good
04:45in 2026 not
04:46a player who's going to be good in 2028 right that that's what he needs I really hope that's not
04:52the
04:52way the Jets process works because that to me is terrible process right like this Darren Mugee has a
04:57responsibility to the Jets organization to find players that are going to be good in 2027 2028 2033
05:04like you know you want to get a player here who's going to be here for 10 years hopefully that's
05:08what you're doing so this shouldn't be based on saving AG's job and I really from what I've seen
05:14of Darren Mugee I'd be surprised if that's way their way they're operating the second thing you hear
05:20which is a little more valid is that there's no projection with how to use Bailey right he's plug
05:27and play as an edge rusher so if you're if you're sitting there and you're going we really don't know
05:33what we're going to do with Arbel Reese like we like the player but like where does he where does
05:37he start as in in 2026 is he where do you play him do you play him off ball linebacker
05:43do you do you
05:44put do you go to the edge rusher do you move him around that makes a little more sense to
05:48me
05:49but I don't I just think coaches have a certain arrogance about them that they'll they can figure
05:55this stuff out and they like figuring this stuff out like I wrote a column that that should be up
05:59on
06:00the post site soon or I'm like I doubt Aaron Glenn's sitting there going man I really don't know
06:04how I would use this guy who's six foot four 240 runs a four four forty like well what am
06:09I going to
06:09do with him like Aaron Glenn's probably like yeah we do this this this this and this like that's what
06:13you hope at least Aaron Glenn is thinking so I'm not buying those completely but that's that's the
06:20reasoning why people are going that's why they're going to take David Bailey and it's interesting you
06:25mentioned that cause right like that really should be their thought process you would hope and not
06:31the first thing you mentioned there with Glenn and his and his job security going into this year
06:35because we all know Aaron Glenn by all intents and purposes is already kind of on the hot seat he
06:41has
06:41to prove himself as that he can improve this defense and and show that he can coach yeah and had
06:46those chops but like I also think it's flawed logic to think David Bailey is going to save his job
06:51this isn't a quarterback right like like even if let's say David Bailey comes in and has a really
06:56good season what does that look like 10 sacks like that'd be a really good season the Jets I'd look
07:01this up the other day the Jets record for sacks by a rookie is Hugh Douglas 10 sacks oh wow
07:05yeah so
07:06like yeah so and like if you think about like you know obviously Nick Bosa Chase Young there's been
07:10guys who've had impact as rookies as edge rushers but I don't know do they do they change the trajectory
07:16of a team right away like that that seems like a lot to me that's the only position that really
07:20does that
07:21as quarterback so you know to me Ryan I and I I wrote this I just wrote this a little
07:27while ago
07:27should post soon I saw Howie Roseman did his pre-draft press conference and he said the way
07:34they look at it is who's going to be the best player in this third season in the NFL and
07:40that's
07:40how they draft and to me that's this decision if you sit there and you say David Bailey is going
07:45to
07:45be better in 2028 than Arvel Reese then take David Bailey go ahead but if you think Arvel Reese is
07:50going to be better in 2028 than David Bailey you ain't got to take Reese no matter what 2026 looks
07:55like so to me that's what this comes down to and I know Frankie is team Bailey but when I
08:02look at
08:03these draft guys and put the stock in whatever you want to put stock in they all have Reese ahead
08:08of
08:08Bailey except for Jeremiah Jeremiah has Bailey ahead of Reese but like Kuyper, Brugler, Jordan Reed
08:15did his Matt Miller did his it's not by much but they all have Reese ahead of him so if
08:21you're sitting
08:21there saying Reese is going to be the better player overall how do you not take him right and I
08:24think
08:25that's that that seems to be the consensus but I do want to make sure I ask Frankie here like
08:30you're
08:31not just thinking about the media production and you're one from Bailey to Reese you truly believe
08:36David Bailey is going to be a better edge player than Reese ever could become because of the prospect that
08:41you would be looking at between the two absolutely man yeah yeah if I agree with you guys and and
08:47if
08:48that's the reason why Aaron Glenn wants David Bailey is because he's a plug and play year one edge that
08:53can give us eight to 12 sacks and that'll help him or help the team win an extra game or
08:59two I don't I
09:00don't believe that should be the reason why you take David Bailey I don't so I'll agree with you guys
09:06there however I do think that David Bailey is going to be a better edge rusher than Arvel Reese
09:12because honestly I don't think Arvel Reese is going to be an edge rusher in this game and in three
09:16or
09:16four years I just don't I did some more diving in I think he's going to play a lot of
09:20that off ball
09:21position I do and I think he's so unique in how you can use him and I was looking a
09:27lot into the
09:28things that Matt Patricia was doing with Arvel Reese I've never really seen a defensive player
09:33be used the way Arvel Reese was used at Ohio State I mean Matt Patricia had him doing delayed
09:38blitzes faking that he was going in coverage coming in faking a blitz going into spying the
09:43quarterback I mean the kid was playing almost everywhere in that front seven to me though
09:48an edge rusher is always greater than all of those other things that a guy in the front seven could
09:54do
09:54it's always the greater than position to me um so that's I think cause why I think people really
10:01like Reese's there is something to be said about on tape he does things cause that I've never seen
10:07honestly and these these these you know scouts are are are you know reiterating that the the whole you
10:15know draft process I've been seeing that um he's just different like some people have called him
10:19like an alien um with that said I don't see him being a full-time edge and I think David
10:25Billy is
10:26going to be an awesome full-time edge or a very good full-time edge like if I had to
10:30put a grade on
10:30him I'd give him like an 8.9 grade as like an edge or a nine flat I'm not as
10:36gonna go like where
10:36Von Miller was or Miles Garrett but I think he's really damn good and uh the Jets if they're gonna
10:43make that pick uh between one of those two the pick needs to be somebody like Kaz just said and
10:49like
10:49Howie said in year three who's the better player or who's a guy that is gonna be here for 10
10:54years and
10:55has an all-pro trajectory here um you know by year 10 he's he's a perennial all-pro that that's
11:02got to
11:02be the decision there I don't know where is that coming from by the way though like are people just
11:07speculating on the fact that because Reese Kaz is on you know you know at the top of everyone's board
11:14minus Mendoza that uh if the Jets were now apparently rumored to go Bailey it has to be because Glenn
11:22is
11:22looking to save his job I mean again people are just putting two and two together I guess right
11:27I think it's just speculation yeah um you know my my analogy for mock drafts is that it's cotton candy
11:37so there's there's absolutely no nutritional value to mock drafts but yeah I agree they're fun
11:42you know cotton candy's fun and but if you have too much of it you're gonna get sick
11:46so that that's my drafts like really like really good reporting is you know really good reporting
11:51is rice and beans right it's dense nutrition is like when you can report out a really good story
11:57there's no good reporting pre-draft is you know you might get something you know I was actually looking
12:02at mock drafts from last year for some of these guys this I'm trying to figure out if anyone was
12:06really
12:06good but like what what if you did a mock draft what's really good eight eight out of 32 would
12:12you be like that's pretty that's pretty good right pretty so and last year was kind of last year was
12:17kind of set the first four even though Hunter went Jacksonville moved up most people had Hunter going
12:23second to Cleveland you know so you kind of get you get a point for that like it's still the
12:27right spot
12:28people had obviously Cam Ward first they had Abdul Carter Carter third they had um I'm blanking on his
12:34name the tackle to the Patriots fourth with the short with the T-Rex arms Will Campbell Will Campbell
12:40and then Mason Grant fifth some people had but not really got dicey after four but the top four were
12:45kind of set which is a lot of drafts is like like usually know the top this one's this year
12:49is crazy
12:49like you really know number one and nothing else um but yeah like it's these these things are
12:54mock drafts are not science that's for sure because uh what's interesting is while we're talking about
13:00that immediate production and projection the two you want to compare right you're trying to project
13:05this player how good he's going to be in year three compared to the immediate production you might get
13:09in year one I wonder just because of the amount of pressure the Jets have put on themselves now
13:15after coming off such a tough year of only three wins and Glenn is on the hot seat to prove
13:20himself as
13:20a coach and they have this top pick in a draft that doesn't have a quarterback there to take
13:26how much pressure is on both Mugi and Glenn to nail this pick at two and I don't know will
13:33they be
13:33able to see the fulfillment in three years of this pick yeah so there's a lot of pressure
13:42always is pressure right with the draft I got a question today in the subtext of like you know how
13:48is how pivotal is this draft every draft is pivotal like it's always that way they have to when you
13:55look at
13:56the you know big picture when you zoom out and you look at two first rounders this year two second
14:03rounders this year three first rounders next year second rounder next year all that matters Ryan is
14:10if they get a quarterback right because again I'll go back to 2021-22 where the Jets took five players
14:16in the first round and you could argue Sauce Garrett Sauce and Garrett were huge hits I think you know
14:22rookies of the year Sauce was two times all pro whatever you think about the last couple years
14:27but those were good draft picks Jermaine I think is pretty good draft pick ABT hasn't been able to
14:32stay healthy but I'm not going to rip Joe Douglas on picking him I think it was a you know
14:36he's a good
14:36player when he's healthy but who's the fifth guy Zach and then and that's you know that's it man
14:43like so yeah they have to get this right Ryan but the more important thing is getting a quarterback
14:48okay if if they end up getting a stud quarterback next year and they're on their way no one's going
14:55to be too worried if if the guy they pick number two this year is not a superstar he can't
15:00be a
15:00complete bust and be out of the league in two years like that'll be bad but if he's a just
15:04a pretty good
15:05NFL player who's a starter for you people I think will be happy with that you just got to get
15:10the
15:10quarterback right yeah uh I I think I understand what you're saying there uh I just think what's
15:17interesting is is like how bad would it be if Reese ends up going three and the Jets take Bailey
15:22at
15:22two and we find out three years from now Reese actually turned out to be the next Micah Parsons
15:26and well it depends it depends do they do the Jets draft Arch Manning next year and he becomes the
15:34next Peyton Manning again then like the good quarterbacks hide your warts bad quarterbacks expose
15:40them so if the Jets are rolling and and you feel like they've got the best quarterback that they've had
15:45in your lifetime you're not gonna be so worried about David Bailey versus Ardell Reese if if in
15:522028 they it's clear that whoever they drafted in 2027 is not very good at quarterback and you're
16:00like oh and then yeah then Mouji and Lennon will definitely be in trouble after that yeah for sure
16:06Ryan I'll say something with Micah though remember this Micah was traded this past year so as good as
16:12these edges are as good as Micah Parsons is these guys can get moved in their prime sometimes and uh
16:20that doesn't happen with quarterbacks obviously and and to what we were talking about earlier look at
16:24Max Crosby the team he's on he had 10 sacks last year had a really good year they're picking first
16:30overall Miles Garrett they're still picking yeah you know at the top of the draft so I mean it doesn't
16:35edge can only bring you so far it's one of the most important positions in football no doubt but
16:39quarterback just trumps all these positions two threefold I think no doubt and also speaking of
16:45quarterback the Jets need to get another weapon for this quarterback in Geno Smith this year uh they
16:50did not address it in free agency right now it's Garrett Wilson Adonai Mitchell Isaiah Williams it's a
16:56pretty bleak depth chart when you look at it Kaz and Frankie uh it seems by all intents and purposes
17:01the Jets could be targeting a wide receiver there at 16 um look Kaz I've seen rumors the Jets you're
17:10not rumors but the the draft talk is they should trade up and go get those big what big three
17:17wide
17:18receivers in Lemon Tate or Tyson it do you think that Glenn and Mugi could be ultra aggressive here
17:24especially with those two second round picks and say yeah we want to get one of those big three
17:29because we don't trust the other two receivers in Cooper or probably uh Denzel Boston that could
17:35be there at 16 yeah I'd rather go for the big three yeah like if their evaluation says like one
17:41of the
17:41one of those three guys or those three guys there's a huge drop off after them like yeah I could
17:45see them
17:45getting aggressive I you know going up to seven or like six I don't think to see that but 10
17:5111 like
17:52if they they had to go up there to get somebody I could see it I think it just depends
17:56on the
17:56evaluation if you feel like Cooper and Boston are not that far off from the other guys then you don't
18:02do it then you keep your picks but they do have the flexibility um I you know I would think
18:0744 would
18:08be in play if you're trading up from 16 and probably packaging 16 and 44 to move up and maybe
18:14something
18:14else if you're really trying to go higher than like 10 but yeah it's it's it's the it comes down
18:20to the
18:20evaluation if you think those were stupid if you think there's five or six receivers that you feel good
18:24about then then you stay put Frankie do you think it's uh a lot closer than what the evaluations are
18:30between the top three and the rest of this wide receiver class there's not much separation or is
18:34there a big drop off after the big three I've um honestly guys I don't think there's that big of
18:39a
18:39drop off as people say the more and more I look into it um some of these receivers Omar Cooper
18:46Jr.
18:46being one of them is somebody that that kid can really ball guys I mean and that kid really
18:52doesn't have a weakness to his game you kind of look at all the stuff that he can do inside
18:56and
18:56out how good he is after the catch I mean I know how good Carnell Tate is but is Carnell
19:02Tate Calvin
19:03Johnson or Tulio Jones or Jamar Chase to whatever Omar Cooper is no he's not there there's they're a lot
19:11closer I think than people think that's why I think guys like Omar Cooper Jr. Jeremy Bernard I really like
19:18Denzel Boston these guys could go somewhere and really be impact players on an offense as a wide
19:26receiver too if you're projecting someone to be a wide receiver one and they need to take the onus of
19:32of the of the looks and and and you know the the the lion's share of the passing targets then
19:39yeah I would
19:40steer more towards a a Tate Lemon or Tyson but if you're just looking for a wide receiver too
19:46because you have Garrett you don't really need to you know jump the gun I don't think and give up
19:52some assets some future assets when you could stay there at 33 and 44 and get someone that like a
19:59Jeremy Bernard who will give you I think 90 percent of the wide receiver to value that you know Jordan
20:06Tyson's gonna give you and I love Jordan Tyson honestly but again the only thing is when you're
20:12looking at those receivers those Jeremy Bernard's Chris Bell's Chris Brazel adding some more names
20:18in there there's like a cluster of them they have a higher rate of they might not even be able
20:24to play
20:24as even wide receiver threes whereas you know for certain Jordan Tyson or Lemon even if they're not
20:31the wide receiver one guys that you think they could at least slide in as a two at worst you
20:36know a two
20:36two to be um so that's the question the Jets have to ask themselves do we want to wait I
20:42I'm 10 I tend
20:43to say if Lemon or Tyson's there take them I don't know if I'm taking Cooper at 16 I if
20:49Cooper is is the
20:50next you might not have an option there Frankie right at 16 and that's what Kaz is saying too is
20:54like
20:55if the big three are gone and if you don't want to trade up to 10 or 11 to risk
20:58those picks
20:59you might be left with Cooper and then what do you do if you're the Jets if you don't value
21:03Cooper as a top
21:0416 on your board you know what I mean well I would say this I have a cluster of players
21:10that I think
21:11if they're there at 16 you just go down the list and you check them off and you take the
21:15one that's
21:15left so my guys there are Carnell Tate Lemon and Tyson so I would take them at 16 if they're
21:22there
21:22and then I would go to Vega Yohane and I might even take Vega I'm not I'm almost you know
21:29I'm almost
21:29prone to say after Carnell Tate if Vega's there take him make that offensive line a real strength
21:35for the future because I do think in my opinion he's one of the best players in this draft he's
21:40he's
21:40right at the top I'm thinking of putting him number one actually on my big board actually because I think
21:45he's that good at his position um and then I have Kenyon Sadiq before I have Omar Cooper Jr. and
21:53Denzel
21:54Boston or Casey Concepcion um I don't know but Sadiq I like because of the athleticism variable
22:04um the NFL combine gave him a 99 athleticism score for a tight end I mean that kid runs a
22:11439 you get
22:12him on a crossing route on a broken play he'll look like you know Isaiah likely 5.0 out there
22:18the kind
22:18of stuff he can do and the league's kind of going in that direction with the you know the big
22:22slot the
22:23tight end playing the slot look at Colston Loveland kind of what they're doing with him and what you
22:28know Tyler Warren's been doing and Brock Bowers I don't put necessarily Sadiq in that regard but
22:36he's more athletic than all those guys and he's more athletic than basically in any tight end that
22:41we've ever seen coming out of the draft so I don't know uh maybe you're better off taking a shot
22:47with
22:47him than Omar Cooper Jr. who maybe you can find on date you know in round two that's kind of
22:52like my
22:52point is is like if you have Cooper in the same bucket as Casey Concepcion and Denzel Boston and
22:58Chris Bell and those other names you mentioned Kaz could you see the Jets maybe taking a swing on a
23:03Sadiq if he does fall to 16 or is that not something you think they might be an appetite for
23:09they might put a premium on the other positions in the draft yeah I get it I love Sadiq like
23:16I started
23:16watching Oregon because of Dante Moore right because when it was like clear the Jets would be taking a
23:21quarterback I started watching Oregon every week and I remember the first game I watched I was like
23:25who the heck is this guy like did he he was the best player on the field like clearly and
23:32um so I
23:33you know I like Sadiq a lot I just wonder if the Jets would do that after taking Mason Taylor
23:38last year right like it feels like not that they're equal I think he said he's a better prospect but
23:43Taylor they're sort of similar they just took that in the second round last year I just don't know if
23:49they would do that so you know Frankie do you think at 16 there'd be a market to move up
23:54to 16
23:55is there a position like would there be a run of tackles at 16 would there be a run at
23:59a position
24:01that like the Jets aren't in the market for where they might be able to like let's say
24:05that the scenario plays out where the three receivers are gone and at 16 they say let's move back to
24:1023 or
24:1124 and maybe take Omar Cooper there but it's like this is because we've had this conversation a lot
24:17at number two that there's no player that's going to drive that market is there do you think 16
24:22there could be a run at positions where they could get some a trade back there I think so man
24:27I
24:28definitely do I mean if Vega's there for example I if I'm the Jets I take them but maybe they're
24:33not
24:33ready to go with the guard right now maybe they want to wait a bit those tackles like you brought
24:37up
24:37if Spencer Fano is there some teams I'm sure there's a team or two that's going to look at Fano
24:43and say
24:44damn that kid would make a hell of a guard or he's a swing you know lineman similar to AVT
24:50we could play him you look at Monroe Freeling he is rumored to go to the Lions maybe at 17
24:57maybe a
24:58team wants to jump up a spot knowing that Detroit's going to take him at 17 and jump up
25:03Blake Miller a lot of teams like and again we're talking tackles here so there's always a premium
25:09on that position for sure yeah I do Caden Proctor there's a bunch of guys right now that I'm you
25:15know
25:15I'm reading about and hearing about that people just love and every mock I'm looking at some team some
25:21mocks and teams are taking Caden Proctor in the top 15 um Monroe Freeling Caleb Lomu like there's a ton
25:28of tackles so um I think if Vega's gone there yeah yeah yeah it's a good yeah back there and
25:36then if
25:36you because if there's a cluster of Boston Cooper Concepcion if you feel like they're kind of similar
25:41you're you're probably going to get one if you trade back a few spots you should and get a third
25:46maybe right on Vega you're saying number one player overall what I was considering for what
25:52well I'm just all right so I'm factoring in I I like guards I just do I'm a left guard
26:02enthusiast I
26:03just really like left guards not right guards am I I'm a guard guy I really think guards are
26:07underappreciated guards you like left guards well yeah because it's you know you're playing with the
26:12left tackle you got that blind side kind of shut down a left guard's an important position but uh
26:17you know whatever I'm not arguing it's not I've just never never met anyone who was in the guards
26:22and specifically left guards well you probably never met anyone that thought your Darian Price was
26:31cause did you see uh cause I don't know we need to get a t-shirt we need to get
26:36a t-shirt Ryan
26:37I love left guard I love left guards Jakey V did use uh cause I gotta send it to you
26:44but uh someone
26:45on Jake's show Jake Asman I went on his show and they made a uh they made a meme you
26:50know uh from
26:51the wedding singer love stinks with my face on it like I'm the wedding singer saying love stinks it's
26:56funny um it's gotta see it cause you would crack up were you saying Vega could be number one
27:02on your board I think and I've I've looked into this and I've spoken to some scouts or people that
27:08do mocks I've spoken to a bunch of people about this they said Vega is the best interior offensive
27:13line and some people that they've scouted or they've looked at since Quentin Nelson he's right
27:18up there since since um um Martin uh Zach Martin in in Dallas like I've spoken to people that have
27:27said
27:27that and they some people think he's better so the positional value isn't there like let's say if
27:33there's a punter who's amazing I'm not putting the punter first on my big board because they're
27:38you know at 99 at the position so there is something to be said about positional value when it comes
27:43to
27:43your big board I just think left guards are freaking important man like I don't look at what
27:48Quentin Nelson does for Jonathan Taylor and that Colts offense I just I think it's a little bit
27:53underappreciated but I will say this like yeah it's tough to compare I own to arguably one of the
27:59best guards we've seen in NFL history and Quentin Nelson and Zach Martin was an all-time he's gonna
28:04be a future hall of famer like I'm not ready to go there yet I'm telling you all right Vegas
28:08Vegas
28:09damn good right I'm just saying like out of yeah he's he's nearly in in in what I'm looking at
28:15with
28:15guards and stuff he's he's he's a 96 97 I mean he doesn't have many weaknesses and I'm not the
28:23only
28:23one that's that that that believes that also I mean um I don't know guys I want to ask you
28:29about
28:29the second round because I read your sports plus piece yesterday about pick 33 and how that is a
28:36prime opportunity for the Jets to trade out of that spot because a lot of teams see who is left
28:41over
28:42from the first round and they want to trade up and get their guy uh is that really what you
28:47think
28:48could happen I know you said you wrote this article as more like this which I would do if you
28:52were in
28:52your situation yeah Darren Mouji no no I I think here's how Friday's gonna go April 24th all right
28:59you're gonna wake up there's gonna be all the talk about the first round all that stuff and then maybe
29:05like 10 30 ish or 11 a.m there's gonna be a tweet from Rappaport or Schefter saying teams are
29:13looking
29:13to move up to 33 Jets are fielding calls how do I know this because this is what happens every
29:19single
29:20year right and yeah because I think teams are gonna wake up Friday morning and look at who got drafted
29:27and there's gonna be somebody that they love who didn't get drafted and you know it's funny Frankie
29:32you probably can speak to this more I was listening to um Chris Sims podcast he was breaking he does
29:37the positional breakdowns which are really good and he was all about defensive tackle I was listening
29:41to that one and how there's a lot of these guys who they like he's high on but maybe they
29:46feel like
29:47they're end of first round or maybe they're gonna fall in the second round I just feel like there
29:51might be guys that fall into the second round there at that position or you know who knows maybe
29:56it's Ty Simpson somebody loves and they're they're ready to go but yeah I just think they're gonna feel
30:00a lot of calls um and we'll see if they get a deal done if something is there appealing but
30:07that's that's that's I know the Jets were very happy Ryan when the thing where the way it broke
30:14was they were getting the first pick in the second round they they obviously they wanted the first
30:17pick in the first round but when now that didn't happen um because what the Raiders won the last week
30:23of the season right yep am I remembering that right yeah and that was that was what tied that
30:28the Jets record and that's why so people know if you're tied they alternate positions in the draft
30:34so the Jets were good the Raiders get the first pick in the first round Jets get the first pick
30:38in the second round if the Raiders had lost that game the Raiders would still would have the first
30:42pick in the second round yeah look and I I like your idea of getting a third round pick if
30:46they did
30:46trade back from 33 uh replenish that and and it's supposed to be a deeper class in the second round
30:53on like again a lot of these players and position groups are being grouped together there's the blue
30:58chip players while there may not be as many blue chips in a normal year in this year's draft
31:02there is a huge drop off from what I understand from all the pundits they're grouping them together
31:09and you might have different guys valued at different spots so that second round third round could be
31:13jumbled up with a lot of the same players and values you have there uh but look cause it's
31:19half of the second round too even even 30 30 but like remember the Jets moved up to get Brees
31:23yep right they were like so excited Brees was there um the year Elijah Moore was there they were
31:30they were very fired up that Elijah Moore was available early in the second round I know it
31:35didn't work out but is that text message real it was a bad pick that was just a bad pick
31:40though guys
31:40that whatever what was this what was that one remember the one between Sala and uh and Douglas
31:46that was Malachi Corley wasn't it that was Malachi Corley no matter what sorry not the Elijah Moore
31:53sorry I forget all my wide receiver drafts for the Jets are I mean they're all the same dark history
31:58besides Garrett Wilson right now you know the you know they were you know the craziest thing about the
32:02Jets blunders and day round two or day two with whatever with with wide receiver the most interesting
32:09thing is these guys always stink they go other places it's not like they're good anywhere else
32:13I mean so it's not like we're drafting guys that oh well they go somewhere else Elijah Moore
32:19where is he he was in Cleveland I don't even know where he is now he's on a new team
32:23I mean
32:23I don't know man it's like we just drafted really bad players at those spots and we haven't drafted a
32:29good one and it seems like in a while there yeah Wesley Walker Wesley Walker is that really the last
32:36second second round wide receiver we've yeah receiver that that's hit yeah really yeah yeah I mean
32:47Stephen Hill that's incredible yes that can't be that am I am I believe you you're like Mr. Trivia with
32:55the Jets Devin Smith Devin Smith Smith uh back and then back with the Parcells Alex Van Dyke was a
33:01second round pick uh he didn't work out yeah it's and like really they had a run there where second
33:06round picks were awful all together uh after David Harris David Harris was a great one and then it was
33:12a long time um you know Marcus May was okay he started for a few years but yeah and then
33:20and then
33:21obviously Brees has been good but it's it's second round I used to tease Jets general managers just
33:26trade the second round picks it's like they never work out they're better off they're better off uh
33:32you know and then you got Quincy and a nice little run he was a sixth round pick I mean
33:36six rounder
33:37yeah yeah I don't know he was good man he was good it wasn't for what his neck yeah the
33:42neck injuries
33:42killed him uh not sorry not killed him but you know what I meant killed his career uh Jesus right
33:47I am morbid yes uh let's let's he's alive and well I see him I see him we actually had
33:54him on for an
33:55interview uh last year he was awesome he's great speaks very well and I I think he he might want
34:01to
34:01do some of this he's a smart dude he might want to do some of this for tv and I
34:04think he should but
34:05uh cause final thoughts the other thing I saw what you said was Drew Aller obviously potential uh yeah
34:12and that the Jets should take a quarterback on day three just because again they have not added to
34:17that quarterback depth room uh is that you think that's the guy Drew Aller I don't know that's the
34:23guy it feels like to me but you could throw names at me and I'd be fine I just it
34:28feels like he's
34:28Frank Reich type of guy you know the big pocket passer um so he fits uh you know so yeah
34:37I just look
34:38at it and right now it's Gino Bailey Zappi and Brady Cook like that ain't gonna cut it so they've
34:45got some work to do in the quarterback room I think you'd want to I think you're gonna want to
34:49add a veteran and uh I would want a different developmental guy um I've kind of seen enough
34:55of Brady Cook uh I've seen enough of Bailey Zappi um you know one of them could go to training
35:00camp but
35:01I'd want a fourth guy in there that I can you know see what you get someone someone asked me
35:07today
35:07like why would you take a court why would you why would you uh waste a pick right on a
35:12developmental
35:12quarterback and the answer is like Brock Purdy right or Dak Prescott like we didn't they weren't
35:18drafted to be the starting quarterback Russell Wilson's not drafted they got they they hit on
35:24those and you know that's that's rare it's a very low percentage but at that position just keep rolling
35:30the dice man you know you never know and and your worst case scenario like you just move on in
35:36a few
35:36years if it doesn't work out but and like I feel like we exaggerate the hit rate of some of
35:41those
35:42third day draft picks anyway like most of them don't work out so I don't see it as a waste
35:46um
35:47if you're taking a quarterback and just just seeing if he can get some maybe you get a backup out
35:51of it
35:51you know so how do you guys feel about Carson Beck because if you want to go down the checklist
35:58of
35:59the kind of quarterback that Frank Reich likes Carson Beck 6'5 big hands you know well I mean like
36:05he might and I actually think Carson Beck's pretty good I mean I'm not saying he's good where
36:10you're gonna have him uh start but I would love Carson Beck in the fourth round am I in the
36:16minority
36:16there no I'm with you I think that'd be a good one too I like how much football he's played
36:22too
36:22like he's not gonna I feel like the developmental part of it isn't as hard as if you're taking a
36:28guy
36:28who hasn't played a lot of football I mean Carson Beck played so much at Georgia and then last year
36:33at
36:33Miami um so no I I would be I'd be good with them taking back in the fourth round yeah
36:38I mean I won't
36:39lie to you Frankie I try to study the top of the draft for the quarterbacks when it comes to
36:43someone
36:43like a Becker and Aller I just don't I've only seen them when I've watched the actual games Miami and
36:48Penn State when it's a big game uh like it's like I watched him from day one I watched some
36:52Georgia
36:53stuff but I agree with Kaz the experience is definitely intriguing uh and you know it'd be cool to bring
36:58him in I think to that quarterback room and I agree with Kaz just add some depth to this room
37:02because I I agree I cannot watch Brady Cook be the backup to the to Geno Smith here and I
37:06cannot
37:06watch another snap of that guy um fellas I I want to end this on a on a brighter note
37:12and I actually
37:13want to ask both of you but I'll start with Kaz Kaz when you think about the NFL draft and
37:17your time
37:18in covering the Jets and doing this for a while now and being at the you know Florham Park during
37:24these
37:24drafts is any fun memorable things that come to mind for you in your time with the draft
37:33hmm yeah I mean look it's always fun like the draft is fun I the lead up to the draft
37:39can get tiresome as I've expressed like it's just like I said it's just it's a lot of talk and
37:45not
37:46much substance but the like I love the draft like it doesn't I don't feel like it's one of the
37:51best
37:51events of the year right like it's and everyone has hope you know and I remember I think John Schneider
37:57said this the Seahawks GM it's like it's like surgery right the surgeon never walks out and goes
38:02boy I really screwed that up like every GM every GM walks out of the draft going I can't believe
38:10that guy was there we got it like the team is better right everyone as as freaking negative as
38:17the Jets fan base and Jets media can be everyone's gonna feel pretty good about this draft on Sunday
38:23after the draft you'll talk yourselves into it even if you don't love the players so that's fun but
38:27for me um the one year that always kind of stands out was the Idzik 12 year and um yeah
38:36there was a
38:37uh when they guys you said on a positive no Kaz
38:41so it was fun because how many picks do they have on day three I like uh
38:50oh I'm looking right now so on day three I got one they had nine right nine picks on day
38:58three I
38:58think yeah I got 10 picks unless the third round was on the second day 10 10 picks their rounds
39:05on
39:05the second guy third rounds on the second okay so uh no they had nine picks on day nine picks
39:10on day
39:11three yeah and there was a there was a reporter who Jets followers wasn't me well we'll remember
39:18said if they used all the picks he would hitchhike home from Florham Park and so day three of the
39:27draft can be a little boring you're there all day like it starts at noon you're sitting there all day
39:31there's not as much juice you're kind of tired because you've worked late the day that lasted two
39:36days before so it can be a little it can be just kind of boring just waiting for the picks
39:41so that day though when they when this reporter said that we were like okay like here we go and
39:47then the Jets started using each pick and then I realized at some point that they had nine picks
39:52and there's nine letters in the word hitchhike so I made a sign that we had in the Jets press
39:58room
39:59that was like a it was like hangman right with a with a line for each letter and every time
40:03they made
40:04a pick we put a letter up h i t and they went the whole way and they he used
40:10all nine and so it was
40:11like uh it was like a party in the Jets press room so I'll always remember that one do they
40:18hitchhike
40:19home but he did not hitchhike oh yeah he reneged so yeah but that was a fun one um you
40:28know and it's
40:29it's fun when there's something surprising happens I remember I I this was before I was on the beat
40:35but I actually covered this draft was the Sanchez draft and that was shocking yeah like that was
40:41not something people saw coming no and that I feel like that might have been the last time or one
40:46last
40:47time the draft started at noon on a Saturday back then they used to start it I think they did
40:52rounds
40:52one and two on Saturday and then the rest on Sunday but like I remember being there like noon on
40:58Saturday and yeah and uh pretty quickly they made that trade and that was wild and and quarterback
41:06drafts are always the most exciting first round you know that's that's pretty good for business
41:12when that when that happens so yeah and um you know the some memorable press conferences Rex was
41:20always entertaining at these things and uh through the years but it's um it's cool to
41:27then on day two during the day they bring in the first round pick or first round picks
41:32to do press conference and it's always neat to see these guys like they realize their dream
41:37right they're drafted and their families are there and their families are so excited and
41:42they always say you know I'm I'm here to turn the jets around we're gonna go to the super bowl
41:48baby
41:50and and it's always just it's like you know it's just the optimism is in the air so it's fun
41:55yeah uh
41:56I want to hear Frankie if you have a thank you guys for sharing that the the hitchhike thing is
42:02awesome uh Frankie do you have any fond memories of the draft in your time of since you being a
42:07Jets fan
42:09yeah man I have uh I have a few but there's one that just uh sticks out in particular and
42:16especially
42:16now I keep thinking about it because the uh the quarterback we have right now is the same guy Geno
42:23Smith who I thought back in 2013 uh was the best quarterback in that draft and I wanted the Jets
42:30to do whatever they could to trade up to get Geno Smith so when Geno wasn't there in round one
42:36we
42:37actually had a show called flight five which was uh which was a cool like I don't want to say
42:42ahead
42:42of its time but we were all myself Nick Wesley uh some other fans we would go live and react
42:48to
42:49things news or whatever and um we were live during the you know second round it was a Friday I
42:55think
42:55it was at night cause if I remember maybe by that time it was in prime time yeah yeah yeah
43:02yeah maybe
43:02it was like the first or second year they had been doing that yeah so we went live it was
43:06Friday night
43:06yeah yeah so um man when they drafted Geno Smith man I went nuts on camera I don't know what
43:14we what
43:15we did maybe we chugged a beer I don't even remember but um it was a good time we thought
43:21we found our
43:21quarterback of the future we did we were convinced I was upset that they didn't you weren't upset that
43:27they didn't go left guard instead
43:31well speaking of that you know what guys look I think to summarize that Frankie and Kaz I think we
43:39should all show Jets fans something that Frankie's in love with I think my friend Brian over here
43:44something to show you guys go ahead Brian see I'm into left guards that's Frankie V right there
43:52Tanky V put it on his shirt we got to sell these things where they're gonna be like hotcakes
43:57I'm in I'm I'm 100% in seriously though we I mean Kaz I uh you know we we gotta
44:04we gotta give Olu a
44:05little help over there he's a little he's a little skinny maybe he's gotta come over to to my house
44:09my mom I actually ran I ran into Olu a couple weeks ago uh yeah at a uh at Buffalo
44:15Wild Wings
44:16yes oh no he's bulking up Frankie he's gotta put a little way you know we gotta make him a
44:23little
44:23meaner too he's he's a little he's a little nice and too nice you know he's in a good way
44:27not everyone
44:28needs to be mean on the offense but we we gotta you know get him a little we gotta toughen
44:33him up a
44:34little bit just a little bit you know fellas I appreciate I appreciate the stories I appreciate
