The powerful storm system that will emerge from the Rockies to the Plains Friday will bring both significant snow and numerous severe thunderstorms.
Transcript
00:00Sometimes in spring, storm systems have two very different faces.
00:04We're looking at significant snow and also severe thunderstorms at the same time as the week comes to a close.
00:11Snow will be falling in parts of Colorado.
00:12Now, the heaviest snows in the mountains, but there will also be some snow even in Denver and into parts
00:17of the High Plains,
00:17while severe thunderstorms erupt across the plains and the Mississippi Valley.
00:22It's a very volatile storm.
00:23This is the storm system that will also bring a big cool down to the East Coast eventually.
00:28But Friday, look at the snow in Casper, even Chadron, Nebraska, Rapid City, up into Bismarck, a wintry mix with
00:35rain and snow.
00:36Meanwhile, we take one step southeast.
00:38We're into the 80s with strong and severe thunderstorms in Kansas City, and it's going to be a very volatile
00:44setup here in the plains.
00:45So severe thunderstorms will be a concern to the East, but the snow will be piling up.
00:49We're looking at 6 to 12 inches of snow in the mountains, tough travel weather for sure,
00:54and some modest accumulations real close to the city of Denver.
00:58But the severe thunderstorms will bring damaging winds, hail, and a tornado threat.
01:02We have a high risk.
01:03That's three out of four on the AccuWeather Severe Threat Index from places like Kansas City, up into Des Moines,
01:08Iowa, St. Joseph, and Lawrence, Kansas, as well.
01:11Destructive hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.
01:14Very volatile pattern as we close out the week.
01:16And then out the stormtro summer.
01:16It's a good one here in the lake.
01:16It's a good one here.
