00:00Coach has his breakdown of the 2026 draft class for the quarterback position,
00:05one that is not great.
00:08Yeah, I was going to call it interesting,
00:09but I don't even know that it's interesting in a lot of people's eyes.
00:11It's not great yet.
00:13There's nothing interesting about this quarterback.
00:15It's not great yet, though, right?
00:16It's not going in, but like you said,
00:18there'll be somebody who shows that we didn't think will.
00:20Always happens.
00:21Always happens, and there'll be – unfortunately, that's going to be it
00:24because besides Mendoza, who I'm not as high on,
00:27there's a lot of question marks.
00:28We just know that even if the Browns draft one of these guys,
00:31he's not going to be any good.
00:32Like, we just know that going in.
00:34So, go ahead, Coach.
00:38That's a nice intro.
00:39Great relief.
00:41If they draft one, they're going to stink.
00:43Coach, who would they draft?
00:45Who's going to stink for them?
00:46Well, I will say to start off with this.
00:48I had Trinity –
00:48Who is halfway across the country, but you can smell them from here?
00:53Well, I'll start by saying this.
00:55When I started doing this, I tried to look at next year's two
00:57and kind of do some comparison.
00:58Trinity Chambliss, I had in my top five.
01:01I don't have him in my top, like, 12 next year, right, going in.
01:04Now, that changes a lot, but, you know, when I look at –
01:07obviously, Fernando Mendoza's the number one pick.
01:09After that, I'm different than most.
01:11Fernando Mendoza has all the physical tools you like.
01:13If you think about Peyton Manning, he can make all the reads.
01:17He understands he's a film rat.
01:18I question his athletic ability in the NFL.
01:20If you look at what Ohio State did to him,
01:23it's not an NFL defensive line,
01:24but we've got to see what he can get to second, third progressions.
01:27I would not take Fernando Mendoza with the number one pick.
01:30Why do you think Tom Brady likes him so much?
01:33Because you know Tom Brady has –
01:35you know, he's got the ear of Davis in the front office
01:39and the coaching staff there,
01:41and they're not taking a quarterback without Tom's sign-off,
01:44and it's pretty clear that they've got that with Fernando Mendoza.
01:48So, you know, they did sign Kirk Cousins, that $20 million-a-year contract.
01:52It's really a one-year deal, even though, you know,
01:55the language is what the language is, but it's a one-year contract.
01:58And he's probably going to be the week one starter for them.
02:03But what is it about this kid that you think has sold Tom Brady
02:09putting his neck on the line, right, to say, yeah, that's the guy we want?
02:15Well, if I had to break – you know, you talk about, like, he loves to watch film.
02:18He loves to do all those things that Tom Brady did, right?
02:20He's a film rat.
02:21He loves the game.
02:22So does Dylan Gabriel.
02:23But I would say the thing that separates him at 6'5", 240,
02:25I would say the thing that Tom Brady sees in himself
02:29is the ability to work within structure with what is going on around him,
02:34second, third, fourth progression, because he's going to do all the film work,
02:37because he's going to do all the extra stuff, because he lives at this facility.
02:41I don't know if that's true.
02:43That's what you've heard.
02:43And, obviously, if Tom Brady's signing off and has a lot of him,
02:48he's said that a number of times where I see a lot of myself, a lot of, you know,
02:51he reminds me of me when I'm coming out, blah, blah, blah.
02:54So that tells me the ability to work within structure.
02:57I'm going to be smarter than the defense, and I'm going to find the open guy.
03:00That's what I think he thinks of Fernando Mendoza.
03:02If you had to ask me, that would be it, the ability to work in structure.
03:05Now, after that –
03:06Who would be your number one quarterback?
03:08Well, I'm going to make you the Vegas Raiders.
03:11You have the first pick in the draft, okay?
03:14Who would you pick?
03:15Who would I pick?
03:16I would go Caleb Downs without question.
03:18No, no, no.
03:18I'm talking about –
03:19I have to pick a quarterback?
03:20Yeah, you've got to pick a quarterback.
03:21So you're saying I have to pick a quarterback, I'm picking Garrett Nussmeier.
03:24I'm not taking Ty Simpson.
03:27There's a lot of things to do, but I think Garrett Nussmeier works a little bit better under pressure.
03:31Now, for me, all these guys, that's where the drop-off, I think, has happened this year when you watch
03:37a lot of them in the fall.
03:38Everybody's pretty good within structure.
03:41Everybody's okay when everything's perfect, but not a ton of them have elite traits.
03:45So when you get in trouble, do you have a rocket arm?
03:47When you get in trouble, can you move your feet and get out of the way?
03:50Lamar Jackson, you know, Josh Allen.
03:52Do you have a rocket?
03:53So, you know, I'm a cam board where I'm just going to flick it.
03:56I don't think any of these guys have that.
03:57If you're not going to a perfect structure, you're going to be in trouble.
04:00Garrett Nussmeier gives me the most, the closest to that, if it was my choice.
04:05He's, once again, though, not elite traits.
04:07And if you don't have everything perfect around you, that could be, and we know, we've seen it in Cleveland,
04:12if a quarterback gets beat down enough, sometimes it's hard to recover and get to where you want to be
04:17or could be.
04:18So I have Nussmeier as my number two, quick release, coach's kid, makes all the throws, had a tough year.
04:25A lot of things went into that this year at LSU, including him.
04:27A lot of it was him, but offensive line play, Kelly got fired, receivers struggled.
04:32You go back and watch his junior tape, it's pretty good.
04:34The junior tape was kind of like leading into like what we're talking about next year's class.
04:38He's going to be really good.
04:39Again, though, not a huge guy, and that worries me in terms of taking hits.
04:43Number three, I have Drew Aller, right?
04:45And the reason I have Drew Aller is because none of these guys have traits.
04:49Drew Aller does have those physical traits, right?
04:51He's big, he's 6'5", he's 240, can make all the throws, throw off platform.
04:55Much better athlete than people think.
04:57Watched him in high school, shocked he wasn't great at Penn State.
05:00I still think he can do it if somebody can get him in the right system.
05:04And if he could sit a year and learn a system, he's got all the tools, and he can take
05:08a hit.
05:09Now, here's where I get a little off base.
05:10So at number four, I have Cade Klubnick.
05:12And the reason I like Cade Klubnick is because he's calloused, right?
05:15He's wear and tear.
05:16He's seen a lot of different things.
05:18He's had some different offense coordinators.
05:19So he's been underneath the center.
05:21He's been in the gun.
05:22He understands footwork.
05:23He's had to make huddle calls.
05:25Those little things that kind of speed you up.
05:28So when you can get to practice, you actually can read what you're doing.
05:31Your footwork's not screwing you up.
05:32So I love Cade Klubnick.
05:34And then number five, I have Carson Beck.
05:36And obviously, if you're wondering where Ty Simpson is, I have him at six.
05:39And I'll go over him last.
05:40But I think Carson Beck is better than people think.
05:43Again, more traits.
05:446'4", 220, makes all the throws.
05:47His personality wears you wrong.
05:49Now, for me, that's when you talk about when he left and went to Miami, the personality
05:54doesn't match what a lot of teams want, right?
05:57They want the film rat.
05:58They want the kind of intellectual guy.
06:01He's kind of an outgoing guy.
06:02But he can make all the throws.
06:03He has an elite arm.
06:05He can really make the throws.
06:06I think he's a much better playmaker.
06:09I'm interested to see.
06:10He'd be a guy that, if you ask me who's the biggest boom or bust, I say it's Carson Beck.
06:14He could be really good early, or he may never play, and it could go either way with him.
06:18And then I got Ty Simpson.
06:19And Ty Simpson kind of goes back to my Garrett Nussmeyer.
06:22Really good, nothing's elite.
06:24Good arm, not great arm.
06:25Good feet, not great feet.
06:26He's only got 15 starts.
06:27So, once again, not only is he not callous getting hit, he also hasn't seen a lot.
06:31And that means a lot, especially at Power 4.
06:34Coverages, ends, getting hit, getting up.
06:36He's been in the shotgun a ton.
06:38Obviously, he's been underneath that.
06:40So, he's going to have some good footwork.
06:41He's going to understand shotgun.
06:43He's going to understand run, play, action, things like that.
06:45The 15 starts really turned me off.
06:47And, once again, is that a fair assessment?
06:50Maybe not if you look at the first six games and you watch those tapes.
06:54But I just don't see elite traits yet.
06:57And if you go to a system that doesn't have a lot around you and you get beat up,
07:03you've got to have elite traits to kind of get you out of jail, right?
07:05And those guys who are successful, like Lamar Jackson, he was so good his first year
07:09because he had those feet.
07:10So, his feet could get him out of there, right?
07:12Like, you know, guys who have the big arm.
07:15You know, Brett Favre, if you think about it.
07:16I don't know what I'm reading.
07:17That guy's open.
07:18Boom.
07:18Right?
07:19So, you get away with stuff.
07:20If you don't have elite traits, you've got to be super intellectual.
07:23You've got to understand progressions and coverages and fronts and blitz pickup.
07:26I just don't see a lot of that out of him yet.
07:28And, obviously, he's super well coached at Alabama.
07:31For me, Ty Simpson's just such a rolling dice.
07:34And then, obviously, finishing out my 10, I have Jaden Daniels from Kansas.
07:37Great feet.
07:38Hayden's King.
07:39No one.
07:39Big, tough kid.
07:41Project.
07:41But I love his toughness out of Georgia Tech.
07:43A guy who has incredible tools.
07:45Sawyer Robinson out of Baylor.
07:47Great athlete.
07:47Once again, he's a guy who has tools.
07:49And then Cole Payton, the kid out of North Dakota State.
07:53A lot of physical tools.
07:55Footwork.
07:56Things have to be worked on.
07:57But a really good athlete.
07:58We're going to roll back around to this.
07:59Because I have some questions on the quarterbacks.
08:01But you had the breakdown there.
