00:00for the browns individually what is more important when we talk about this and that is
00:03either getting more bites at the apple aka getting an additional draft pick if you were to trade back
00:08another shot on one of the prospects in the first or second round or ensuring that when you're
00:13drafting at six or drafting at 24 wherever you're drafting that you are ending up with the top
00:18prospect on the board at the position that you want to take right whether that just be best player
00:23available whether that be the top wide receiver top left tackle but ensuring that you go that's
00:27the guy i think is the best and i end up with that guy whether again do i want to
00:31target a position
00:32maybe do i want to just go best player available maybe but am i making sure that i have the
00:36top
00:36guy that i want to draft because obviously you drop from even if you drop from six to nine there's
00:42a
00:42chance that's not the case certainly when you go back to the 12s the 17s it's almost a guarantee
00:47that's not going to be the case and john yesterday told me that he thought it was you know in
00:52this
00:53draft class specifically a bites at the apple conversation more than it was a getting your
00:57top players and i think i'd probably stand in the opposite viewpoint that i would rather the browns
01:00check off hey this is a guy we've identified as the number one guy that we have to select here
01:05no matter where that be whatever their decision is just go get the guy you feel more most confident
01:10in and i feel like i'd be better from that standpoint well i mean i am concerned about the
01:16tackle class and i know we've had the conversation about the the quality and the depth of that class
01:22they absolutely cannot miss out on one of those top tier players okay i think it's vital um i think
01:32we're it's fair to assume and when you look at a lot of the top 30 visits that they're conducting
01:38right now and just obviously the needs and what they've not done really in free agency they they need
01:44wide receiver help desperately they need an infusion of talent in that room desperately so um you know
01:52i don't have a problem getting another bite at the apple whether that's in the first round or
01:56another early second round pick i think if you're sliding back from six i i need a first round pick
02:02to
02:03make that viable for me uh you know speaking from andrew berry's uh viewpoint there but they've got good
02:11bites at the apple right now you've got five of the top 107 picks in this draft only the miami
02:18dolphins
02:18who i believe have seven of like the top 120 okay only the miami dolphins i think have
02:25more draft capital uh than the cleveland browns do and i realize there's four or five teams that have
02:32multiple first round picks this year but uh when you're talking about quality of of picks i i think i
02:39think miami is in a little better shape there but the browns are right there it's hard to argue with
02:44what andrew berry gets to work with going into this draft you get six 24 uh 39 um 70 uh
02:53and 107
02:54right uh those are all very very good picks that you should be able to fill some holes in so
02:59uh you
03:01know i'm all for moving up and down the board but let's not get too cute let's not miss out
03:06on one of
03:06the the top left tackles that are going to be available in this draft class and then you know we've
03:11had the
03:11conversation about the wide receivers there might be more flexibility in that position group you can
03:16get comparable players uh in that you know first round so maybe tackle is your target but maybe six
03:22is too early to do that and you can get some additional draft capital by sliding back a few
03:28spots and still getting a guy you want whether that's freeling or someone else you know but um i just
03:34don't outsmart yourself that that's my only thing right now i think going from you know i was talking
03:41out uh doing a trade with dallas because the cowboys have two first round picks sliding back
03:46i think their first one's 12 yes i think sliding back from six to 12 though that might be a
03:52little
03:52dangerous because i think you you run the risk of missing out on one of those top tackles well you
03:58know the thing is for me there's there's six guys right for caleb downs jeremiah love bailey reese
04:03styles and reuben bain those to me are the guys that are you stack talent i don't care who you
04:08have
04:09at what position uh i've been uh answering questions about jeremiah love and it's really
04:13not about the position he plays it's not about the position that the browns have with juggins i
04:17think juggins are outstanding but if you keep stacking talent uh stacking guys who when they
04:21get out there they can help you win the game by simply being on the field and how they touch
04:25it
04:25and i look at a guy like jeremiah love i don't look at him as a running back because everybody's
04:28concern is about position value and i've learned that i don't like that i don't like that word i don't
04:33like the word position value uh it makes sense to me don't get me wrong uh and i understand why
04:37people say it but i don't like it and the reason why is because you're you're missing you could like
04:43daryl saying you could miss out on one of these guys that kind of changed the narrative of how a
04:46game goes uh so if you have to move back and you know i'm at i'm at the point where
04:51if you don't
04:51want to stretch at six for a tackle ellen jenkins can play your tackle i know people don't want to
04:56they're like there's no way i the guy's feet his knowledge his ability to do things both from the
05:00right side and the left side tell me that he can play the tackle in the pinch so if you're
05:05not sure
05:05if you're going to miss on one of those six i would move him out to tackle before i'd miss
05:10on
05:10one of those six that's my opinion and it's funny when you see a lot of different people's views
05:14i don't think they're necessarily wrong either it's just how you want to attack this and what
05:18you want to fill um the position value makes sense to me it's just not the way i do things
05:22yeah because i think it's interesting because we even talk about like right now i somebody had just
05:26put out the report i can't remember for me who it is but it was that they don't see tennessee
05:30going with jeremiah love at four but could see the giants going with him at five that's a team who
05:34just added cam scadaboo obviously dealt with the injuries but looked pretty good in the year that
05:38he was there you might think to yourself you need to add a back like jeremiah love who's going to
05:43almost undoubtedly be a guy who ends up in front of him if he's healthy right i mean just from
05:47pure
05:47value where they were drafted the type of prospects that they are you expect love to be ahead in the
05:51depth chart than scadaboo but they're adding another running back into the room a position you could
05:56argue they already have filled where they have more holes like wide receiver with a giants team that has
06:00malik neighbors but now losing wandale robinson maybe not very much behind it so i see that part
06:07of the argument too i think i just struggle because bites at the apple it does make sense if we're
06:12talking about this class i think there's a legitimate argument to it when you trade back like again i'd
06:16probably prefer to just take the top guy there whoever you think that is but in a class that we
06:21talk
06:21about you know a lack of top end talent where you are probably taking what a you need rattle off
06:26i think
06:27six guys in that list so you are taking the bottom of the barrel in terms to speak of the
06:33very top of
06:34the class everybody else got to take their five you take the last one that's remaining and this is a
06:38draft class that we've talked about is being deep inside the first two rounds first three rounds
06:42is guys that you're going to look at that are well that guy's going to be a starter on a
06:46roster right
06:46like he's almost he's pretty much ready to play or in a year he's going to be ready to play
06:50and they
06:51have solid projections as starters where we usually see a much deeper decline right it's almost a
06:57a much steeper hill that you go off of when you talk about oh that guy was a top 10
07:00pick down to
07:00the guy that you drafted 17 like the talent drop off is immense and that's not this class
07:06i just struggle like whether it is you know jeremiah love for one of those top six or whether
07:09you look at it and go i want carnell tate like that's the guy that i want to go out
07:13there and
07:13get and i think he's a game changer that's andrew barry's mindset it comes down to what you feel
07:19like the gap is in the room but at some point i think if you're the browns you're sitting there
07:23at six
07:24why are you even taking a we think carnell tate's the best and he has the best you know potential
07:28to either be a number one or be a solid wide receiver in the room and let's say after that
07:32they go then it's jordan tyson and there's a three percent chance in our minds right browns love the
07:36analytics we can go to numbers there's a three percent drop off in our mind wait wait they do
07:41they do this just in this just no math don't do math but you know we think that there's a
07:46whatever
07:47whatever percent drop off you want to say there is to like this guy's going to be a starter
07:50compared to this guy or going to be a number one whatever it is why even take that chance why
07:54even
07:55take the margin of error other than we are most confident that guy don't let him go anywhere we
07:59take him at six it's pretty much the argument of the trade back like why would i not want the
08:04top
08:05left tackle on my board why would i not want the top wide receiver on my board or just the
08:08top overall
08:09best player available when i'm sitting there with the ability to draft them more capital is great at
08:13some point though on your roster the browns have what nine picks standing right now inside of this draft
08:18i feel like you can't add nine young guys to this room and expect even when you're talking about
08:23the top 107 there's five picks what are the odds that you're going to get five guys starting out of
08:27that group even if you drafted all offense or you drafted a guy like caleb downs you drafted a guy
08:32like jeremiah love who are a guarantee the odds that all five of those guys are going to pan out
08:36be on
08:36your roster and make a significant impact day one when they walk into the building i get barry did it
08:41last
08:41year very low chance of it happening again don't you threaten andrew barry with a good time now
08:46don't don't don't challenge him because i mean they they've tried it before they they tried it in
08:512016 they tried it in 2017 so we've seen that uh where they and they have you know it's not
09:01a well-kept
09:02secret that they want to be young this year they want to be one of the youngest teams in the
09:08national
09:08football league both for salary cap reasons and also too from uh a talent standpoint so uh we've seen
09:18it before unfortunately it's not worked before and i think that that has shaped some of the negative
09:24viewpoint of that but um i mean andrew barry is was right when he said at the combine just because
09:33you're young doesn't mean you're not going to be good okay uh the the problem that andrew has to
09:39deal with is that historically when the browns are young it usually means they're not very good
09:45because well they just haven't been good for on a consistent basis for a very very very long time
09:52we get the we get up uh you know a playoff season here in there i mean we we we
09:57got two playoff seasons
09:59within a four-year span like that that was like turning water into wine by brown standards now
10:07elsewhere in the national football league it's just it's a shoulder strike okay you won one playoff
10:11game good for you like but here it's like oh my god the browns actually won 11 games usually we're
10:17used to watching them lose 11 or more games in a season not winning 11 games in a season and
10:21so that
10:22that contempt no big deal they got blown out by the tech they're gonna be back next year gonna be
10:28right
10:28there next year right next year's never promised so um i i don't have an issue with going young
10:34barry showed the ability and whatever processes he had last year to come away with what he did
10:42i hope that they repeat said processes and they didn't change anything because that really was an
10:50outstanding draft and he absolutely needs to have a repeat performance well yeah when you think about
10:58your so think about mason graham right they were they were very good in defensive line you take
11:01mason graham you're never going to be wrong stacking talent and when you talk about like some of the
11:05teams i hear you talk about consistency and you're absolutely right but i think that happens because
11:09you're always looking to fill holes instead of stack talent and when you stack talent the the holes go
11:15away slower and slowly and slowly because you stack talent whether down the line so you have two great
11:21tailbacks you know okay now you have trade value whatever it may be but you're never wrong stacking
11:26really good players that's what you know guys who fill in a gap those those things help you now
11:31but if you stack talent now you're that consistency every year when you talk about teams that are
11:36really really good obviously the quarterback position is always going to be the foundation
11:39of that but you talk about defensive line and secondary guys and o-line and when i think of jeremiah
11:44love i think of uh you know cmc or marshall falk showing my age a little bit but not a
11:49guy who but
11:49that's just a talented guy i don't think of him as a running back and the position value i just
11:53a really
11:53good football player that can score points which the browns never score over 20 right so i don't
11:58know i think they they the idea of stacking talent is very important from them for them moving forward
12:03and i think it's something we're going to look at this year the way that barry approaches the draft
12:06probably will tell you you know in a lot of ways how far away do you think you are because
12:10stacking talent it definitely works when we're talking about you know this team needs to rebuild
12:15this team needs as much talent as they can acquire or you're already in a really good spot
12:19when you go out and you say we need a left tackle we need a wide receiver you're telling me
12:23this team's
12:24that far away we couldn't get in free agency and we think we're getting it right now but we're ready
12:28to compete andrew mary is going to send a message one way or another i think within the early part
12:32of
12:32this draft but 216-474-0092 what's more important to you is it bites at the apple in the first
12:37two rounds
12:38or getting the top players on your board
