00:00We're going to get to the hottest topics coming up in the sports landscape right now.
00:03It's the early lineup.
00:05AZ Fudd drafted number one overall to the Dallas.
00:08Is it the Dallas Wings?
00:09It is the Dallas Wings.
00:10But how about this, Joe?
00:12Girlfriend, girlfriend, same team.
00:15What happens if they bicker a little bit?
00:16Do you have to blow up the team and trade everybody away?
00:19This could be a powder keg.
00:21Well, this could be a problem, yes.
00:24But, you know, if I'm the Dallas Wings, it's not a problem to have.
00:27If I have Paige Beckers and Fudd on the same team, I'm probably going to.
00:31You know, winning cures a lot of issues, Donnie.
00:34And Dallas, I think, is poised to win themselves some games this year in the WNBA.
00:40You know, he's not poised to go deep into the playoffs.
00:42It's the Golden State Warriors.
00:44Steph Curry, he's coming back.
00:45Love to see it.
00:46Minutes restriction, Joe.
00:48Tough scene right now at this point for Golden State and that aging dynasty.
00:52Yeah, it is kind of tough here.
00:54But, you know, Steph's probably like, do I really?
00:57I mean, we're going to get bounced here anyway.
01:0012 minutes.
01:00You'll get 12 minutes of my time, Donnie.
01:03That's what Steph Curry's going to give everyone before the game gets out of hand.
01:06And then it's the season over.
01:08Bye-bye.
01:09Thanks for coming.
01:10Now, here in Philadelphia, this might be a story that I like here, but maybe nationally
01:14people get upset by.
01:15Because if I just go back, like, Merrill Reese is the Eagles play-by-play radio guy.
01:19Lost his fastball a couple years ago.
01:21But a legendary voice that you love to hear.
01:23The Flyers TV and radio, absolutely fantastic.
01:26The Phillies radio network, absolutely fantastic.
01:29But the Phillies TV broadcast, horrendous.
01:31The Sixers broadcast on TV, absolutely horrendous.
01:35I welcome the national guys over the slop that we have in Philadelphia.
01:41Yeah, you know, you're not the first person I've heard say that, Donnie.
01:44I don't know what it is.
01:45I've never actually caught a local broadcast of this.
01:48But man, oh man, the hatred is real there.
01:51Like, how bad are they?
01:55Yeah, it's Kate Scott and Allah Abdul-Nabi.
01:57It's like, we went from Mark Zumoff, who was tremendous for decades here.
02:01And then we get the, it's almost like, Joe, when you hear it, it's like, I don't feel like
02:04watching the game right now because I can't stand the telecast.
02:06It's like, just bring me the national guys so I can enjoy it.
02:09Every time in Philadelphia, a Phillies game with Tom McCarthy, who's the TV guy, when
02:13he gets drawn out to an NFL situation or college basketball, it's like music to my ears because
02:17Scott Fransky, the radio guy, takes over TV and he is so much better.
02:21But it is what it is at this point.
02:23I welcome the national people here.
02:25John Moran, sideline during exit interviews.
02:27Does this guy get in trouble when they're not even playing basketball games?
02:30Listen, I still don't know how he's in Memphis.
02:33I mean, I really have no idea, but he won't be.
02:37Somebody is going to trade for him.
02:39He'll be wearing a different uniform and good luck to that team.
02:43My goodness.
02:44Man, Dick Vitale over the past couple of years, anything on social media that pops up is like,
02:48hey, just beat cancer.
02:49And then a couple of months later, oh no, I have cancer again.
02:52This man is going through it all.
02:53What a legendary broadcaster right there that continues to fight.
02:57How many times can he beat cancer?
02:59I bet you, Joe, he beats it another time.
03:01You talk about broadcaster.
03:03I mean, legendary.
03:05Yes.
03:05College base.
03:06I mean, just synonymous with college hoops.
03:08Always has been.
03:09Always will be.
03:10We wish him nothing but luck here in this battle that he's consistently going through here over the last decade,
03:17it feels like.
03:19Boy, I mean, how many times can you just roll with the punches at that point right here?
03:22Always optimistic.
03:24Always back on the call.
03:25Get well, Dickie V.
03:26Joe Buck dismissed the chance to call the 2025 MLB postseason.
03:31I don't think anybody missed that.
03:33Yeah, no, no.
03:35Because, well, now it's into December.
03:36So, I mean, he still has to do football.
03:38So, but yeah, you know, keep going Major League Baseball.
03:41Let's just go 12 months a year and none of these guys will show up.
03:45The one thing I do like when Joe Buck makes the rounds like on local radio is like, understand this.
03:50Everybody thinks I hate their teams here.
03:51It's not the case.
03:52Just try to call it down the line.
03:53And if you're used to your home or broadcast, you don't get that with a national broadcast.
03:57It is what it is.
03:58Jonathan Quick, one of the best goalies of his time.
04:02Champion as well.
04:03He's going to hang him up after 20 years, man.
04:05This guy, LeBron James.
04:07I mean, Jonathan Quick back in the day, man.
04:10Remember with the Kings?
04:12He was really real.
04:13They just couldn't score.
04:14And that was the problem here.
04:16And he never really was able to do anything else beyond that.
04:18But hell of a career.
04:2020 plus years there, Jonathan Quick.
04:22Yes, it was here.
04:24Spreadlines coming up next on a Tuesday.
04:26Fun day right here on the Sports Grid Network.
04:28We will be right back.
04:29Hour number two officially underway on a Tuesday here.
04:32The hot topics will keep rolling in.
04:34Kevin Walsh going to join us in the next segment here to talk a little action in the NBA.
04:38Getting you ready for the play-in rounds and much, much more at this point.
04:41Joe, love the topics today.
04:43Always a good time.
04:44We'll get you to hump day tomorrow and closer to the weekend as we go.
04:48But I can't wait to get this hour started here to get after more of these good stuff topics here.
04:53Yeah, a lot of fun, Donnie.
04:55I mean, a lot of baseball headlines as we head into the week here.
05:00And, of course, the play-in begins before the actual playoffs begin.
05:05So, we've got a lot going on.
05:07I can't believe this weekend the NHL playoffs start, too.
05:10It's kind of a crazy week.
05:12Let's go, Flyers.
05:14Yeah, we'll keep chanting that all the way through.
05:16Been a minute since we were able to have an orange out down there on Broad and Patterson.
05:20However, let's talk about some WNBA action to start here.
05:23Seems like in every league, Joe, nobody likes the commissioners here.
05:27Let's hear what Kathy Engelbert has to say.
05:29Let's hear this one.
05:30Adam Silver was asked last month about just your future as the commissioner of the WNBA.
05:36And he said he didn't know what you wanted to do.
05:38So, I guess I'm just curious, like, what do you, how much do you want to stay the commissioner of
05:42the WNBA?
05:43How much longer do you anticipate to be in this role?
05:46Well, thank you, Maddie.
05:47I do crack up how everybody's focused on me.
05:51And you should be focused on the hundreds of amazing women and thousands of women who run this league outside
05:57of myself.
05:58No men are on the league.
05:59There's our women board of governors, our women GMs and women head coaches and my whole team of, you know,
06:05diverse women and men who are working hard every day to get the 30th season tipped off by May 8th.
06:11But I appreciate that you're focused on me as well.
06:13I wonder whether you would ask that of a man, by the way.
06:15But I realize we get asked different questions than men do.
06:20But, look, I'm so proud of this league.
06:22And we're working, I'm here, you know, working really hard to make the 30th season our best ever and to
06:28continue to, you know, build that sustainable economic model we know we need for the future.
06:33So, nothing else to report, which is probably why Adam didn't report anything.
06:37There's no story here.
06:39I'm thrilled with our trajectory.
06:41I'm filled with the growth, thrilled with what we've done over the past couple of years and really looking forward
06:45to the next few years.
06:47Now, questions are always going to be asked of CEOs all the time.
06:50Now, Roger Goodell, roundly booed, anytime you see him, it's a rite of passage whenever they get to the draft
06:54because nobody relates to the actual commissioner themselves.
06:57You know who does usually like them?
06:59The NFL owners.
07:00Why?
07:00Because every single year their pocket's bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger.
07:03It's like, yeah, you might hate Roger Goodell.
07:05We love him because he makes us money.
07:06So, flip it over to the WNBA is going to be in their 30th season who has never made a
07:10single profit.
07:11I think it's a valid question to ask.
07:13Are you going to stick around any longer because there's growth in the league but not growth in profits right
07:18now?
07:18How do you deal with that?
07:19Ah, you wouldn't have asked a man that question.
07:21She immediately goes, yes, I would have.
07:25And, of course, you would because it's not about you.
07:28It's not a sexist comment.
07:29It's the fact that you're a CEO, essentially.
07:32And every CEO of any company, yeah, it's a legit question.
07:37Are you hanging around or you're not hanging around?
07:40Are you planning on moving?
07:41You're not moving?
07:42What are your goals?
07:43I didn't see anything wrong with that.
07:46She could have just left it at, yeah, you know, I appreciate you thinking about me, but really it's all
07:51about that.
07:51And just left it at that.
07:53I don't know why she had to go down that role.
07:55It's like a tickle.
07:56Hey, earnings report's coming out.
07:58You guys missed your third quarter profitability here.
08:00Answer that.
08:02Yeah, you wouldn't have asked a man that question.
08:04Yes, we would have.
08:05The shareholders want to know where that money is going.
08:08That's always going to be asked at this point.
08:10It's so funny how you turn it on a dial like that.
08:12Instead of saying, like, you know what?
08:13I want to be around for another five years.
08:14I think we're in a great spot.
08:15We're finally hitting our stride.
08:17And thanks for the question.
08:18You move on.
08:18Instead, it was like you wouldn't ask a guy that question.
08:21It has nothing to do with a man or woman at this point at all.
08:24So there's the WNBA commissioner.
08:26Hopefully, we'll get some more good news here about ratings being on the rise once again.
08:31And in those ratings, talking about the early lineup, is AZ Fudd.
08:34Can she help those ratings in Dallas?
08:36Paige Beckers, AZ Fudd, two girlfriends playing together, a powder keg in shorts.
08:41But also, eyes will be watching Dallas.
08:43No doubt about that.
08:45Yeah, I mean, that's impressive stuff here.
08:48And what?
08:49Rookie contract, half a million first year.
08:51Not a bad way to go here.
08:53Yeah, can't go wrong with that.
08:55So that is a huge price increase from what they were getting in previous years.
09:00That's for sure.
09:01By the way, Joe, you remember, like, Steph Curry?
09:03Like, hey, he's going to miss a couple games.
09:04A little banged up, bulky knee.
09:06Turned into a couple months at this point.
09:07And now he's finally coming back and going to be on a minutes restriction,
09:11which can't help them in the playing rounds, Joe.
09:14Yeah, it's not going to help them, Donnie.
09:17And listen, it usually doesn't help 10 seeds one way or the other,
09:21because it's usually one and done in these spots.
09:25And that feels like what this is going to be, whether Steph plays 12 minutes
09:30or 32 minutes or whatever.
09:32It's just not the year there for the Golden State Warriors.
09:37Local media, Joe, sidelined during the NBA playoffs.
09:41And by the way, if you're a local media, like, good.
09:42I don't have to work an extra two months here.
09:44If my team makes a deep run, I can actually sit back and watch those basketball games
09:48and leave it up to the national heavyweights here.
09:50I don't see what the uproar is about at this point right now.
09:54Yeah, I don't either, if we're being honest here, Donnie.
09:57But, and listen, most people watch these games without the sound on any way.
10:02It's usually on a second screen.
10:04It's on a monitor.
10:06It's not, nobody knows who's saying what, where, how.
10:09It's just keep the score on the screen, Donnie.
10:13And that's all most people need to know about when it comes to these games.
10:16And by the way, Joe, when your season ends in professional sports,
10:20you always clean out your locker.
10:21But also, you meet with the coaching staff at the end of the season.
10:24And go, hey, look, here's what I need you to get better for next year.
10:26Keep in touch.
10:27And we'll see what happens.
10:29Where are you going on any special vacations?
10:31Where do you want to work out this year?
10:32And away you go.
10:33John Morant was basically told, yeah,
10:34why don't you just stay away from exit interviews?
10:36Might be best for everybody.
10:39Yeah, that would be great.
10:40Like, hey, listen, don't call us.
10:42We'll call you, okay?
10:45How is he still in Memphis is beyond me.
10:47I tend to think he won't be there by the time next season rolls around.
10:53Wasn't there a time, Joe, in Memphis where, like,
10:55John Morant and the boys were like, you know what?
10:57I'm mad at this other basketball team.
10:59And they flashed, like, their gun scopes at that bus a couple times here.
11:04So there's been many of occasions with John Morant.
11:06But this has to be the best one.
11:08We don't want to even meet with you.
11:10We'll see you when you see, which hopefully is never in Memphis again.
11:13Dick Vitale here.
11:14By the way, do you want to get something in on that, Joe?
11:16What do you got?
11:17What do you got on Joe?
11:18You want a last piece of Joe?
11:20Listen, when your father gets banned from the arena,
11:23then there's chances are it's, yeah, you've got,
11:27there's some other issues going on.
11:28Yeah, that's for sure.
11:30By the way, dad looks like Usher, too.
11:32Sensational stuff.
11:33Dick Vitale, diagnosed with cancer for the fifth time.
11:37This guy takes a lick and he keeps on ticking here.
11:39Dick, make it number six, baby.
11:41Let's go.
11:42Beat it again.
11:44Dickie V, the ultimate fighter,
11:47and really is just, you know,
11:48amazing what he has come back from already.
11:52And like he said, you know, he's not quitting on anything.
11:55So it's, we wish him nothing but the best and a speedy recovery.
11:59I'll tell you what's incredible.
12:00Like Dickie V been around for so many times.
12:02You saw him with the glasses back in the 1980s.
12:04Even like Bill Raftery.
12:05These guys are still going strong and at a high level right now.
12:09And also how much energy it takes just to beat cancer.
12:11Maybe one time going to try to beat it for a fifth time.
12:14Let's go, Dickie V.
12:15I know you could do it here.
12:15But Joe Buck, oh, well, I'm not going to call the 2025 postseason.
12:20Who cares, Joe Buck, if you called it or not?
12:25Yeah, nobody cares, Joe, to be honest with you.
12:28And I don't understand the need for 27 guys calling a game anyway.
12:33And like all of that is very strange to me.
12:37But, you know, hey, listen, he's got bigger fish to fry right now, right?
12:42By the way, Joe, his famous call, or his most famous call,
12:45it's not coming from a game-winning situation.
12:47It was Randy Moss doing the fake, I'm going to pull my pants down and moon you in Green Bay.
12:52A disgusting display by Moss.
12:54Really?
12:55Come on, man.
12:55He was having fun with the fans of Green Bay.
12:57Stop the madness.
12:58Jonathan Quick, 20-plus years in the NHL.
13:01He's hanging him up for the time, Joe.
13:03He could never be quick and goal, man.
13:04Man, that guy was lethal back in the day.
13:07He was, and he was just stuck on some teams that couldn't score.
13:11And he made them better than they were, simply because you couldn't get it by him there with those Kings
13:18teams.
13:19But, unfortunately, they just couldn't get it done.
13:21Yep.
13:22Now, come on now.
13:23Put that graphic back up there, Jonathan, quick.
13:25Why are we doing the guy dirty?
13:26I mean, the Rangers uniform at this point.
13:28You're not wearing a Ranger uniform.
13:29Come on.
13:30Stop, Big Joe.
13:31That's not right.
13:32Put the Hextall jersey on the boy.
13:34Let's get after it here.
13:35We want to wear Hextall stuff here.
13:37By the way, shout out Hextall.
13:38He's my favorite goalie and also hockey player in the 1980s.
13:42Then came back as a GM for the Philadelphia Flyers and was horrendous.
13:45And actually chose Nolan Patrick over Cal McCarr, which really stepped back our rebuild here in Philadelphia.
13:50We don't forget, Ron.
13:51We love it, but we don't forget.
