Police are noticing changing patterns to the country's rising murder toll.
That's according to Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander.
As at Saturday morning, the homicide rate was 100, slightly higher than the year prior.

00:00On Friday around 4 p.m., police responded to reports that 50-year-old Joel Plaza of Maturita Trace Extension,
00:07Arima, was shot and killed outside of his home.
00:10This, along with the murder of McDonnell Bailey and Degon Martin, subsequently pushed the country's murder toll for the year
00:18to 100, compared to 98 for the same period in 2025.
00:23Commenting on the continued crime scourge, Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander says there is somewhat of a shifting trend.
00:31I know it might be difficult to say this, but if the police really decide to put out in the
00:40public domain the information that we have about murders, very few of it will be gamulated.
00:48The behavior of some citizens, the anger, the frustration, the hurt,
01:04and most of all, the control of property is resulting in a lot of these things taking place.
01:13He believes society has deviated from love and respect and has become preoccupied with materialistic things.
01:21There are some murders down south. Everybody say, why the man dead? Land issues. Between family, you know, persons are
01:31being shot for money.
01:36Homes, cars. We have become a materialized society.
01:44Minister Alexander again cites parenting as a major contributor to rising crime.
01:49He says it is also leading to the misbehavior being seen in schools, including drug use.
01:56You're still asking how it ended up in the school.
01:58And you're still asking how the child getting involved in the smoking of drugs.

02:17That's a legal firearm. When the police come in, your children see you hiding it.
02:21Alexander is stating the old adage, charity begins at home and ends abroad.
02:26And he's urging parents to caution their children about who they associate with.
