Bobby took us Below the Belt to break down which Cowboys players could be a part of some draft trades. He analyzed Luke Schoonmaker, KaVontae Turpin, and Shavon Revel’s value versus draft capital, scheme fits under Christian Parker, and whether holding or selling veterans might better balance the roster for the 2026 NFL Draft.

00:00all right let's get rid of some of these guys we got enough players let's get rid of some here
00:04in
00:04dallas let's talk about it here in below the belt which is sponsored by window nation the
00:10dallas cowboys are getting ready we're what now uh today's april night so we're three weeks to
00:17the day three weeks today before we have the uh nfl draft or is it two weeks actually it's two
00:21because it's the 23rd isn't it yeah damn it's coming up fast this offseason has been moved by
00:26pretty quick uh over at the cowboys wire they were trying to take a look at what the most tradable
00:32cowboys contracts might be or the most tradable players heading into the nfl draft because
00:38you know they've already moved also to gizua for some capital maybe they look at some things and
00:42go all right we can change some resources around or reallocate some things here in order to try and
00:47get more draft capital in place to cover up some of these holes especially given what this draft looks
00:53like which is not very top heavy and sort of dense in the middle uh so at the cowboys wire
00:58they
00:59decided to look at the five players that could be tradable and we're gonna go through them here and
01:04i might have some suggestions for you other than these five uh first one luke schoonmaker
01:12which makes sense in the in the sense of you wouldn't want him here and isn't super expensive so
01:19it wouldn't like hurt your cap to do it yeah i cannot figure a couple things when we were in
01:26combat we were talking to lunda wells the tight end coach well and you remember he made some he said
01:31something about like man you and you really saw luke take a step forward last year and then shoddy a
01:36couple weeks ago said something to the effect of well he needs to like luke schoonmaker come in prepared
01:42to work and then he took a step up and i was talking to somebody the other day and they
01:45were like
01:46yeah i mean they they really feel like luke schoonmaker's progressing like what is this
01:51brainwashing y'all are trying to do right and as somebody said they're like well if he was a fourth
01:55round pick people probably wouldn't feel the way they do about him it's like yeah but that is the
02:00point isn't it like that he was a second round pick yeah like it's a fourth round pick i'd be
02:04like
02:05i still would probably like how is he still hanging around because he doesn't do anything yeah total miss
02:08but that's is that apparently they i don't know if that's just some sort of collective
02:15like new speak or you're trying to like just change the perspective on him or if they really
02:20they must really seem to think internally he did something different or something productive that
02:25they that they saw because i don't know that we saw any of that on the field no but yeah
02:30if you can
02:30find somebody who would be interested in that i just don't think you're eating anything other than
02:33somebody gonna flip you a conditional seventh right if he's on the roster first week you can keep
02:39the seven get anything for him nothing other than that uh next one this is what i think would be
02:43a really strong trade option for them in terms of just i don't believe that there's a spot for him
02:52now the way that there probably was when they re-signed him his profile has definitely declined
02:59but there are probably still teams out there that view him as a weapon and that's kavante turpin
03:03hmm i think turpin could probably not get you like anything super significant but somebody i would
03:08imagine would pay you like a sixth for him as like yeah he's a field position weapon we'll throw it
03:11to
03:11you i would give up i i would give up kavante turpin for a sixth round why because he's been
03:16such a
03:17mess for them last year he was a mess the one thing he does for i mean okay he was
03:22he was fantastic for
03:23them two years ago returning do you feel like he's has he he was a legit pro bowl return two
03:31years ago
03:31has his return has his returning though even lived up to what you think the rhetoric around it is
03:36people talk about him like he's dante hall around here and he not around here people don't around
03:41here nationally they do i cowboy fans they they they got sick of him last year yeah last year but
03:46i was
03:47saying before that people did talk about him like oh my gosh look at him he's a he's a threat
03:51to always
03:51break it yeah but he never does he never breaks i look if he were to i just want him
03:57to just
03:58hopefully he has put the receiver idea in the bag just forgotten about it and just go back to being
04:04a
04:04returner he just he never finishes catches his return game got much worse last year i i cannot
04:11get over it's it is just flat out negligence to have that fair catch thing happen to you twice
04:19in a season there are players who they go their whole careers without that happening that doesn't
04:23happen in high school very often yeah he had to happen two times in 10 days yeah the weird jump
04:28turn out of bounds that he did that one game yeah it was just what was that a fadeaway jumper
04:34yeah
04:34no you're gonna have to surprise me with what you offer for me to trade him i'm not doing it
04:38for a
04:38six four and a half million dollars is what he makes too so i mean it i'd rather move off
04:43of
04:44because they dallas was last in the nfl last year in starting field position as a guy who is supposed
04:49to be that's his weapon is their yeah but you can't discount the year before um he was fantastic the
04:56year before i think i can discount it if i'm if i need capital like like six round isn't capital
05:02it's it's it's nothing i got news i got news for you it's resources it's not a resource i would
05:08rather gamble on a sixth rounder than ever again throw him a football that's fine i'm fine with not
05:13throwing him a football but you're gonna have to give me some a little bit more for him not to
05:17return
05:17i would i would i would i would lean more towards him being the returner of two years ago versus
05:25last
05:25year what's weird to me about last year is how the the mental decision making just deteriorated you
05:33would have thought that comes earlier and then it improves and gets better and not goes backwards
05:39that that part is weird he is 29 uh i still assume he's gonna be really really fast but he
05:45is 29 i'm not married to him but not for a six what would the what would the number be
05:49like a fourth a fourth i'm key absolutely then fifth is where you're starting to debate it yeah
05:54okay okay fourth is like no brainer to me okay uh next one here but no one's gonna give a
06:00fourth
06:01malik hooker now this is one that i think if you were to go around the league and just teams
06:09were to
06:09look at all right who do they have on their roster who's got an easy to acquire contract who could
06:14come
06:15in here and potentially do something better than the guys we have on average hooker might be the
06:21answer as like the the most compatible with teams yeah the problem is i don't know in all this mixing
06:28and matching and what they're trying to do in the secondary even though they've added different pieces
06:31they acquired two safeties they might draft a third i still don't know that they very easily want to
06:36just move away from malik hooker because i think they do think he's steady he doesn't have a bunch of
06:41problems like out of all the problems we had last year he's one who didn't have just flat out ugly
06:46busts in the secondary right and can play solid here's the other issue with malik and i'm not
06:54relaying this from a team source but it was someone else who was telling me that um they they heard
07:02that
07:02malik wasn't going to play a lot longer so i don't know whether hooker's making that known i don't know
07:08where he's telling people i don't know whether i just disclose information but um if i was another
07:13not and it could be total bs but i was told from someone who apparently is like kind of close
07:18to the
07:18situation uh that this this like could be malik's last year or two so that would that would um make
07:26a trade more difficult not that he's going to disclose i wouldn't be surprised though yeah his body's
07:30been through a lot right yeah he's he's 30 he's had some yeah he's been through some injuries he is
07:36somebody who gosh what year was he drafted 17 so i mean this will be year 10 for him so
07:42i mean he's
07:42he's been around a little bit but i'd be fine for it throw throw me a round pick like a
07:46fourth i'd do
07:48it did you know he's uh i don't think you're getting a four did you know he's recently published a
07:51book
07:52no of poetry well why don't we get him in studio called when the smoke learns my name and it's
07:57a
07:57series of poems that he's written haiku's i don't know they're just they're they're poems we
08:02should get him on to promote it so at least you can pronounce poem he is uh the people who
08:06say
08:06poem poem poem poem poem poem poem i do have yeah i do have a lot of respect for malik
08:12hooker
08:13somebody in that locker room who i think has has done a really good job being a pro through some
08:18times that have not been easy to be a pro uh next up on this list and i think this
08:23is a sneaky one but
08:24this one might be your best chance to find somebody who's a little enticed by the mystery
08:32the mystery about him jayden blue and this is from cowboys wire these are the five candidates
08:39five potential candidates heading into the draft jayden blue are you willing to say ah you know
08:44what i saw him play well at the end of the season he had some maturity issues but uh there's
08:48no other
08:48reason why i'd get rid of him or would you say yeah if i can get that exact pick back
08:52if i can get a
08:52fifth rounder back for him i'll take it uh well this answer has to come from within the coaching
09:00offices if i'm jerry and steven and we're having this conversation i asked schottenheimer and the
09:06running backs coach is how much more mature is he how much more of a pro is he and if
09:13they say
09:13he's on the right path we feel good about it i'm not trading him for a fifth and i may
09:18not i
09:18wouldn't trade him for a fourth either uh if they give those if they gave those answers
09:24if they're like yeah still not there then i would consider getting the the pick back and then i would
09:31do it for a i would want a fourth um but i'm i'm have you heard anything about it whether
09:37it's going
09:37in the right direction he he got a little better as the season went along it sounded like but not
09:43enough clearly to pass even malik davis yeah so if if they head into this year and they go javante
09:47and malik are still ahead of him then you're talking about a third running back that's not going to play
09:51again for another year i might try to get a fifth i'm probably saying no a fourth i'm probably saying
09:55yes if it's not enough professional improvement uh and then the fifth name on this list
10:02kaylin carson cornerback seatbelt former fifth round pick uh also amateur rapper uh he's been
10:11he had inconsistency in 2024 he's dealt with some injury stuff and they're clearly full at
10:15cornerback fine makes sense of the name i've got a different name though that i want to throw in
10:20here yeah you're not you may not get a seventh for kaylin carson savon revel i would call teams today
10:26and try to trade revel why because i know what you're getting i'm not attacking you i'm just putting
10:32this out there this is why players don't want to gut it out sure this is why players don't want
10:38to
10:38lay it on the line because now uh we're sitting here and saying uh i don't have and i'm speaking
10:45for myself i don't have that great of confidence in savon revel well how compromised was he and he
10:50still went out versus just shutting it down so that and that wasn't good i give him respect for
10:55going out there to try and get it out yeah but it's impact i was not i was not a
10:59huge fan of his
10:59coming out yeah but what great you didn't have him as a fourth or fifth no i had him in
11:03like the
11:04second that's a damn good player right but he is a press man corner and they are going to ask
11:10him to
11:10do things in this scheme that i don't know that he can do because when i watched him on tape
11:14at
11:15eastern carolina and and seen what he did last year i don't know that he's going to be able to
11:19bait like run through all the different concepts that christian parker wants if that's the case i'm
11:24calling teams i'm like i've already got durant i've got bland i've got a corner that i'm probably
11:29going to draft i've got you know thompson that's going to play inside some at that point i'm just
11:33gonna like all right i i don't know that this is a fit again it comes down to scheme fit
11:37questions of
11:38can i get capital back if this guy's not going to be the right sort of fit that i need
11:42so
11:43revel is the one that i think i would call that i also think revel is the one you could
11:46probably
11:46convince a team to give you something decent for him it's still early enough would you do it for a
11:51fifth or would it have to be a fourth fourth i'd want a fourth i wouldn't want to lose more
11:57than
11:57around value on what i picked him yeah he got picked in the third i'm leaning towards no
12:03like and christian parker answers this for me christian parker did talk him up when his press
12:08conference said he liked him yeah so no and it's not because of the talent i have in the room
12:11it'd
12:12have to be because of injury and man it's kind of unfair to be like you're not going to work
12:17in
12:17this scheme without like seeing him go out there i mean that's yeah just because the guy has it
12:21doesn't mean he can't get it to osa well we have i feel much better about d tackle than i
12:28do corner
12:28no i know but i say they didn't give osa a chance to even show up and then osa thought
12:32he was a fit
12:32osa thought he could have played it below the
12:35you
12:35you
