00:00I do have some questions, though, about the Giants roster.
00:03Let's talk about it.
00:04Who the hell are these guys?
00:06Like who?
00:06You mean like the bullpen people?
00:08There's a Carson now who got to pitch?
00:10Well, that was because there was a Wilton, and he came up, and he threw,
00:14but he didn't throw the ball over the plate at all.
00:16Wilton.
00:17Ramos.
00:18Wilkin with a K.
00:19Whatever.
00:20Never heard of him.
00:21Thank you, Grady.
00:22I actually saw Ramos in the box score, and I thought at first,
00:26Tab Ramos, the former U.S. men's national soccer team player,
00:29and I didn't think that was right.
00:31It's not Elliot Ramos.
00:32I thought it was Elliot.
00:32No, he's still not ready.
00:34Maybe they, like, threw him in because it was a mop-up spot.
00:37No, so Wilkin, let me get it right, but he, so he came in.
00:42Should he be walking?
00:44Well, he came in, and so, well, actually, no, it's probably a two
00:49because, so the Giants were up 12-3 in a baseball game,
00:53and then they weren't up 12-3 anymore.
00:57Because Elliot Ramos came in.
00:59Correct, and he was throwing the ball very hard,
01:02but he was going in many places, many places.
01:05Not that little box.
01:05No, and so then people kept going to the bases,
01:09and then 12-3 became 12-6, and then it became 12-9 with two people on
01:15in the ninth.
01:16And they're like, we better, I think we better go to a different pitcher.
01:19And they brought in a different pitcher, and then the hitter swung,
01:21and he hit the ball high and deep to center field.
01:25And then that hip thruster kid, he went back there on the warning track,
01:28and he caught it.
01:30And that ended the game.
01:31Drew Gilbert.
01:32But the Giants learned their lesson.
01:33They're like, let's not have Wilkin Ramos on the team anymore,
01:37so let's send him out of here.
01:39And then they brought up Carson Seymour.
01:42But don't get to know these bullpen people too well,
01:45because they're not staying.
01:47Not for long.
01:48Those guys aren't.
01:49Guess who's about to come back?
01:51Guess who's back?
01:53Back.
01:54Again?
01:54Back.
01:55Back again.
01:57It's got to be, who's that one guy that I loved?
02:01Oh, Bivens.
02:02Nope.
02:03By the way, he's not back, but he going to be.
02:06He going to be back.
02:07So I'm breaking this.
02:10I'm not really breaking it.
02:12Like, the signs are everywhere.
02:13But I want everybody to brace themselves,
02:15because this is about to happen,
02:17and I want Giants fans who are still activated by the season and caring,
02:21I want you to be ready for this now,
02:23because this is going to take some gumption.
02:29Brian Walker?
02:31No.
02:32Yeah.
02:32No!
02:33Yeah.
02:34No!
02:36Why?
02:39He's been crushing it down on the farm.
02:41Really?
02:41And they think he's got it figured out.
02:43Okay.
02:44So he's going to be back.
02:46I don't know who the closer's going to be,
02:48this Jason Foley that they signed in the offseason?
02:50Who?
02:50Jason Foley.
02:51He used to be a closer for the Tigers years ago.
02:53And that Smith guy got a save yesterday.
02:55He sure did.
02:56Dominic Smith, right?
02:58No.
02:59No, Dylan.
03:00Dylan.
03:01It's Dylan Smith?
03:02Yes.
03:02I saw him come in, and I was like, I got questions.
03:05I can't wait to get to talk to my guy, because he has answers.
03:10Ask more.
03:10What other questions do you have?
03:11Dylan Smith would be one.
03:14Does Jung Hoo Lee ever get out?
03:16No.
03:16No, they changed that, too.
03:18So while you were gone.
03:19In the last two weeks, he's batting five bills?
03:21Right.
03:22Yeah, he gets a lot of hits.
03:25All the hits.
03:26Yeah, and he's now top five in the National League in batting,
03:29along with your guy, Arise.
03:33So Jung Hoo Lee, while you were gone, he lived up to his contract.
03:38Yes.
03:39Okay.
03:40And so now we like him again.
03:42And so now, Hooligans and Jung Hoo Cruz and all of these things.
03:48We're back.
03:49It's a homestand.
03:50Starts tonight.
03:50Right, and now people can feel good about that again.
03:54Matt Chapman gets death threats, and now all he does is hit home runs?
03:58Now he's good again.
03:59Exactly.
04:00So, and I don't mean to have this coincide with Pride Week,
04:04but, like, is hate the new love?
04:06No.
04:08No.
04:08It's not coincidental.
04:10It's not connected.
04:11Yeah, no, let's not glorify hate.
04:13I'm not.
04:14By the way, but I did a thing, and it was organic.
04:17We just kind of fell into this,
04:18but we were talking about that whole Chapman thing,
04:20and Shasky one morning was like, man, like, you know, I feel for Chappie,
04:26which is kind of the opposite of what you find online.
04:30And I kind of went on a rant about how I'm really bummed that Chappie
04:35or anybody with the Giants is kind of letting social media
04:39and the Internet get to them because I don't think it's real.
04:43No, at all.
04:44Man, I know that you are, like, those of you out there who do that stuff,
04:49I know you exist.
04:51I know you have a laptop and a phone,
04:53but I just think there's two places on planet Earth
04:57where people will totally act aside from who they actually are,
05:03and it's their way of letting their own self-loathing out.
05:08There's two places.
05:09One of them is the Internet, and the other one is inside your car.
05:12Oh, yeah.
05:13Like, nobody's actually like that.
05:16And so I know you're like that there,
05:20but I don't think you're like that in the real world.
05:23I don't think that Matt Chapman walks down the street
05:25and goes to get a bagel in the morning,
05:27and people are like, I'm going to kill you and your family.
05:30No, they're like, can I have a pick?
05:33Can you sign this?
05:34And Matt Chapman has been much more a good giant than a bad giant in the last three years.
05:40And so I kind of wanted to encourage Matt Chapman
05:44and anybody else who may go through struggles with the Giants,
05:47like, man, I know it must be really hard, but I don't know.
05:52Here's $25 million a year to not care about that.
05:56Like, just block that crap out.
05:58It's not real.
06:00For every one of those weirdos on the Internet,
06:03there's 20 people who are rooting so hard for you, dude.
06:05Right.
06:06They're rooting so hard for you.
06:07That guy looked like he had a million pounds fall off his back
06:12when that grand slam went into the basket.
06:15So, anyway.
06:16We just blown out that day, right?
06:18Is it safe to assume?
06:19I think it was, yeah.
06:20Hard to tell.
06:21I mean, yesterday's game, just watching Trevor McDonald
06:25and watching how just phenomenal he was,
06:28even though he gave up some loud contact
06:30and the Cubs kind of gaffed their way into a couple of like,
06:33oh, boy, like, I can't believe that happened.
06:35And the old adage, freeze on a line drive,
06:37apparently, is not being taught everywhere.
06:39So, yeah, the Giants kind of got, quote, lucky.
06:42But McDonald is the real deal.
06:44Just watching him pitch.
06:45Well, he's got good stuff.
06:46The slider, the sinker slider, and the changeup was popping.
06:49Doesn't always know where it's going.
06:51Right.
06:51I think our new issue with the Giants for the week is
06:54we just throw the ball over the plate.
06:56There's too many guys, especially bullpen guys,
06:59that come in and walk people.
07:01And I just, there's nothing worse in baseball, I think,
07:05other than like, you know, if you're a Luciano
07:08and you just, you're a big leaguer and you can't catch a ball.
07:10Or you're a pitcher and you happen to underhand a ball 17 feet
07:14over the first baseman's head.
07:15Well, that was right after he came in and walked a guy.
07:17Right.
07:18I don't know which thing was worse.
07:20And then this guy, I love him.
07:23I'll love him all year because he bleep you and bleep you and bleep you.
07:27And so I love Eric Miller.
07:28But as he's walking off the mound after that, that inning,
07:32and he's like, yeah, let's bleep and go.
07:35I'm like, dog, you got so lucky.
07:41It was walk, flip ball over Devers' head, give up a searing line drive.
07:48Double play.
07:49Double play.
07:50And then you got the next guy.
07:52Yep.
07:52I was like, that's not good.
07:54That's not a good inning.
07:55That's not one that you, you know, let's blank and go about.
07:58But, hey, I mean, you got out of it.
07:59And they got out of it a couple times.
08:01Last one for me on, like.
08:02Oh, you got questions.
08:03Kyle Harrison, was he pitching with anger?
08:06Like, how was that?
08:07Because he went out and he struck out 12.
08:09Yeah.
08:10When he shoved.
08:11I just saw the box score because that game was played at, like,
08:14eight my time in Hawaii.
08:15I have no idea.
08:16All these games were, like, over.
08:18I would wake up and think about the Giants.
08:21And then you pull out your phone, whatever, and a beach break.
08:23It's like, oh, that game's over.
08:25Like, the games are always just over.
08:27That was a night game, though.
08:28Not for me.
08:29Not for you.
08:30But, yeah, you.
08:31I was just kind of off the schedule.
08:33I probably would have started about, yeah, 2.30 your time, probably.
08:36Yeah.
08:36I mean, that was probably one where I just missed it.
08:39We might have been at the aquarium.
08:40A food?
08:41It's, yeah.
08:43Paella?
08:43That's not a food?
08:44That would be P-A-L-L-E-A.
08:47This is P-A-I-A.
08:49That's pronounced the same?
08:50I believe so.
08:51Okay.
08:51Unless I'm saying it wrong.
08:52I don't know.
08:53My Hawaiian is, I'm not super polished.
08:55I haven't been to Maui in at least 20 years.
09:00It's.
09:00Maybe even, yeah.
09:02It's nice.
09:03Oh, I bet.
09:03I'm sure.
09:04And it was great to be able to pump thousands of dollars into Lahaina and the local economy,
09:09three years removed from their fire.
09:12And, you know, just to be able to see.
09:13I love that.
09:14Lahaina, you know, kind of bouncing back.
09:16But the Kyle Harrison thing was like, oh, that's right.
09:18He's facing the Giants.
09:19Yeah.
09:20And you check the score and it's like, oh, he struck out 12?
09:22So, is your question, was he pitching angry?
09:24Was he pitching with a little bit of an edge?
09:26I mean, I'm sure, like, it didn't look any different.
09:29Like, he's just a really good pitcher.
09:30Right.
09:30But he wasn't, like, super pumped up or extra celebrations.
09:34I mean, he wasn't flipping Devers off after he struck him out or anything like that.
09:38I'm sure there were emotions going wild.
09:40And we ended up talking quite a bit the next day because his pops started, like, he texted me the
09:48next morning.
09:49What?
09:49I think he wanted, but they wanted, they wanted it to, I think they wanted.
09:55One more would be good.
09:56Yeah, thank you.
09:58Six was not unnecessary.
09:59I think they wanted the Giants fans.
10:03And, look, like everything is in life, there is a side of the story and another side of the story.
10:09But I think the Harrison family, you know, wanted people to realize, at least from their perspective, that they wish
10:16that this had happened here.
10:18And that there, to a degree, there's an understanding as to why it didn't.
10:21I think that there, you know, the further we get away from it, people, as always, will be able to
10:26talk about it like, oh, here's what went down.
10:28And we didn't have any hard feelings.
10:30It's like, I think you did at the time.
10:34But the message kind of was like, we're heartbroken that this didn't happen here.
10:37And the Giants really, really needed a hitter.
10:42Yes, the Giants could have done a better job developing.
10:47But also, you know, he was hurt when he was a Giant.
10:52Now he's not hurt.
10:53Right.
10:53And the Brewers are a really good organization.
10:55And so, here you go.
10:57Now you've got an all-star lefty.
10:58Exactly.
10:59Going to the all-star game.
11:00For sure he is.
11:00So, phenomenal.
11:01Any thoughts about Vitello from the fans?
11:04Like, the week that Tony Vee had?
11:06I know that there were some interesting moves that were made.
11:09And I was just, you know, trying to follow online.
11:12I wonder what the commentary was.
11:14The highlight was, for sure, in terms of questioning Tony Vee, was that Bryce Eldridge, and was this the...
11:23Okay, so, on Harrison's night, on Tuesday, the Giants sat Bryce Eldridge.
11:32Oh, I hate it.
11:33Yeah, this is after...
11:34So, on Sunday in Colorado, Eldridge is a huge part of that 19-run outburst.
11:40Multiple extra base hits.
11:42Bops went over the center field fence.
11:44And then, what did Bryce do Monday?
11:47He had multiple hits in Milwaukee, right?
11:50I forget what...
11:51Yeah, I think so.
11:52He had a multi-hit game Monday, and then they sat him on Tuesday in favor of Buddy Kennedy.
11:57Ah, that's what I saw.
11:59Buddy Kennedy.
12:00What's that?
12:01What's a Buddy Kennedy?
12:02It's a giant.
12:03Great question.
12:03Yeah, it's a giant.
12:04He's that journeyman guy, right?
12:05Well, no, not a real journeyman.
12:07He's a young kid, too, but he was a...
12:09He's kind of a utility type who was really hitting the ball well down on the farm.
12:15He was one for four Monday, but the one hit was a double.
12:19So, Bryce Eldridge.
12:20Yeah, and then he sat Tuesday.
12:21And then he sat Tuesday, but the thing that got everybody, first of all, is that Bryce
12:25has been crushing the ball and showing real good discipline at the plate.
12:29But beyond that, like, are you really going to do this whole lefty-righty thing with Bryce
12:34Eldridge?
12:35Because Bryce Eldridge's numbers are just as good against lefties as they are righties.
12:40So, the thought is, and I think this is one of these kind of sports media deals, I don't
12:45think that pro sports actually thinks this way, but the thought was, you're scared to
12:52put your top prospect up against your former top prospect.
12:55But then, it made it worse because they sat Jung-Hoo Lee also, their other hottest giant.
13:00They sat their two left-handed hitters.
13:02Wow.
13:02And then Harrison shoved, and then when Harrison came out of the game, Eldridge and Jung-Hoo
13:09both pinch hit in the same inning late in the game, both got hits, and brought the Giants
13:14to within one run, and put their rally together.
13:17Did you mention how there was a point in the game where maybe the Giants could have gotten
13:21Eldridge and Jung-Hoo Lee in earlier, but they basically told the Brewers what their plan
13:25was, and the Brewers stuck with the lefty?
13:27Oh, great point.
13:28Yeah, good observation, Grandy.
13:30They told them, like, they sent them an email, or like, they called them?
13:33No, worse, they just said it to them, and I didn't even realize.
13:36Hey, Brewers!
13:36No, Vitello and Pat Murphy, the manager of the Brewers, are really good friends.
13:40I should tell you about this, too.
13:42They had a little pre-series meeting.
13:44How long was I gone?
13:45It feels like forever.
13:46Yeah, so check this out, though.
13:48This was great.
13:49So, Vitello has the pre-game in the dugout, right?
13:53And people are mad, Dan.
13:55They're very mad.
13:56Dan.
13:56Yeah, the Giants put out a lineup, and Buddy Kennedy was in it.
14:00And people were like, Tony, what are you doing?
14:04What the bleep are you doing?
14:05Because Bryce, I don't know if you notice, he goes out there and, boom, ball starts flying
14:10all, right?
14:11And so here comes Buddy Kennedy, and everyone's very upset.
14:14And so, as usual, Tony needs to answer questions in the pre-game dugout.
14:18And so, Sloss or somebody like that is like, hey, I'm going to hold your feet to the fire.
14:24Finally.
14:25Why Buddy Kennedy?
14:27Well, Tony, as he is wont to do, he gets chatty, and he says, so here's the deal.
14:34Well, you know, we got a tough lefty out there, but what we've noticed is that the Brewers
14:41love to go lefty, righty, lefty, righty when they bring someone in out of the bullpen.
14:50So what we're doing, we're going to hold Bryce and Jung-Hoo, but, man, we're going to be
14:55ready when they bring that righty in.
14:57And so then Kyle gets in trouble in the sixth inning, and there's people on base.
15:01And I'll give you one guess what the Brewers did.
15:05Probably went to a lefty.
15:06Brought in another lefty.
15:07With a righty at the plate, Buddy Kennedy.
15:10With Buddy Kennedy at the plate.
15:11So right when they would have brought in Bryce, the Brewers are like, duh, just bring in another
15:17lefty.
15:18Right.
15:18We'd rather face Buddy with a lefty than face Bryce with a righty.
15:23And then Buddy flew out or grounded out or something like that, and that was the end
15:26of that.
15:260 for 3, I'm looking at it here.
15:28Bryce had, he was 1 for 1, scored a run, and drove in a run.
15:32Exactly.
15:33It was a seed, too.
15:34He shot to right field.
15:35Jung-Hoo, 1 for 1 with an RBI.
15:37That's all he does.
15:38When he pitched it for Bericotto.
15:39And that got them back within a run, and then they immediately gave up four runs in the
15:43ninth, or the bottom of the eighth.
15:44Yep.
15:45Because they went to Tristan Beck, which was another head-scratcher.
15:51Right.
15:51Got it to one run.
15:53But I keep, see, this is where I get torn on the Vitello thing.
15:56Because I know that there were people that were like, Tristan, you just brought Tristan
16:01Beck up.
16:01Like, Keaton Wynn was just sitting there, and they go with Tristan Beck, and it blows
16:05up in their face, and they give up four runs.
16:07But also, I feel for Tony in terms of, so let's get someone ready in the bullpen.
16:13All right, who?
16:14I mean, one of these guys.
16:18Like, I don't know who he's supposed to go to.
16:20I mean, you don't have Bo Rucky anymore.
16:21I saw that.
16:22But Brubaker's still around.
16:25Brubaker?
16:25Brubaker.
16:26You got Beck.
16:27You got Wynn.
16:28I mean, you got Dylan.
16:30Right.
16:30You got Dylan.
16:31How many Giants fans?
16:32Dylan Smith.
16:35Giants score last night, national TV.
16:38How many Giants fans?
16:39That camera goes, because the bullpen is inside at Wrigley.
16:42The camera, because they're all thinking it.
16:45Keaton Wynn gets out of the eighth, gets through the ninth, and the Giants take a 2-1 lead,
16:49and we're all looking at our score.
16:51We're like, oh, crap.
16:52Who do we got?
16:53Who are you?
16:54How are we going?
16:55Seriously.
16:56Are we going with Christian Koss?
16:57What are we doing?
16:58And the camera goes down to the bullpen, and they're like,
17:02I don't even know who that is.
17:04Who are you?
17:05Who is that?
17:06Who are you?
17:07It's Dylan Smith.
17:07It's Dylan Smith.
17:08And he got him out.
17:09Of course.
17:09He did it.
17:10Got him out.
17:11He did not look at Pete Crowe Armstrong at second base, which allowed him to steal third.
17:16That's fine.
17:17It's not.
17:18It's really not, because Pete takes his lead.
17:20He takes a secondary, and he's thinking to himself, I might as well just start running.
17:24You work that hard to get the first out and not let the runner get to third,
17:29and then you're just like, sweet, and then he just goes to third,
17:32and it ruins the whole thing that you just accomplished.
17:35Yeah, but a couple pop-outs, and you get out of it.
17:37Yeah, but it's okay.
17:38And Buddy Kennedy, it turns out, he pitched in the game.
17:41Sure.
17:41Gave up four runs in Milwaukee.
17:43Every four days, the Giants score 20,
17:45and then all of these other people just come in and pitch.
17:48Ooh, Landon Roop gave up ESPN the Ocho in Milwaukee.
17:53He had a tough outing.
17:54Yeah.
17:55His back was hurting, he said.
17:56Gotcha.
17:56But he didn't tell anyone.
17:59Interesting.
17:59That was another one that Tony got criticized for,
18:02because he just left him out there.
18:04He's down, and they're just like, keep on pitching.
18:06Yeah.
18:06I kind of supported that, because it was the first day of a,
18:09like you were playing all seven days on the road that week.
18:12You don't want to burn your bullpen right when you arrive in Milwaukee.
18:15Fair enough.
18:16Second inning, he's giving up seven runs.
18:18Like, just chalk that one up.
18:19You're going to lose today.
18:21So Roop's going to have to go out there and wear that.
18:23Roop, there it is.
18:24Yep.
18:25Throw your hundo, and then we'll go from there.
18:27And that's what they did.
18:28Man, just a wild, wild road trip.
18:31You got any other questions?
18:33That pretty much covers it.
18:34Because I got, what I'd love to do is throw at you
18:38some of the questions that I have.
18:41Okay.
18:42Which is things that we're all talking about,
18:45but we haven't had a chance to hear what you think.
18:47Oh, I would love to.
18:48You know what I'm saying?
18:49Absolutely.
18:50Would love to weigh in.
18:51I mean, most of my trip was spent completely in the dark,
18:55checking scores and, you know, watch yesterday's game.
18:57But other than that, it's tough over there to keep up with anything.
19:01Although I will say this, NBA Finals games at 2.30,
19:05that's a yes for me.
19:06I bet you love that.
19:07Oh, yeah.
19:07A little matinee.
19:08You're such an old man.
19:10A little early cocktail, 2.30 tip.
19:12Loving it.
19:12What do you drink during a 2.30 basketball game?
19:15Probably that was a Mai Tai.
19:17Early Mai Tai.
19:17It's funny.
19:18Don't you love Hawaii?
19:19Let's go to Dibs, half of the bag.
19:21All the men with hair on their chest immediately turn into foofy 19-year-olds.
19:27If there's no umbrella in my drink, I'm sending it back.
19:30Can I have a pineapple-infused green drink?
19:34It's going to have to be coconut in this.
