00:00Come and listen to my story about a man named Jed, a poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed.
00:05And then one day he was shooting at some food, and up through the ground come a bubbling crude.
00:11Oil, that is, black gold, Texas tea.
00:16Well, the first thing you know, old Jed's a millionaire.
00:19The kinfolk said, Jed, move away from there.
00:22Said, California is the place you ought to be.
00:24So they loaded up a truck and they moved to Beverly.
00:26Beverly Hills, that is, swimming pools, movie stars.
00:32The Beverly Hillbilly.
01:06Now get a grip upon your chairs and hold your children tight.
01:10A mighty feud is starting and you'll see it all tonight.
01:14The Clampett clan is fighting mad.
01:17Their honor's been besmirched.
01:18Sweet LMA's been courted.
01:20But the darlin' ain't been churched.
01:31It was young Sonny Drysdale that courted her and fled.
01:35And now the Drysdale family will feel hot, clamped lead.
01:39Call stranger, you don't trifle with a hill man's daughter fair.
01:43Or you will face his rifle and he'll deeply part your hair.
01:55Now here's the handsome rascal that started this year's feud.
01:59A Harvard, Yale, and Princeton man.
02:01A shifty city dude.
02:03His game was love and run away, cause that's the way he lives.
02:07But they don't allow such doings with their female relatives.
02:16So now they're on their way next door, a loaded up for bear.
02:20And if my name was Drysdale, I'd be getting out of there.
02:25Cause mountain justice does demand that when a wrong's been done,
02:29the kin of him that done it must also face a gun.
02:38And now Sonny noticed Ellie Mae beside the swimmin' pool.
02:43And when he seen her figure, he lost his yin for school.
02:47He wrapped himself up in a towel and played upon his lyre.
02:51And while he twanged the songs he sang, it set her heart afire.
03:03He drove his fancy auto up and took her out to spark.
03:07And all alone, unchaperoned, he kept her after dark.
03:12He took her in the parlor and he taught her to be grand.
03:16He showed her how to walk and talk and tried to kiss her hand.
03:25He took her to his private room to see his lovin' cup.
03:29And a man that wins a prize for that ain't only up and up.
03:34He wooed her with a tango and a rose betwixt his teeth.
03:38A smilin' on the outside, but a lirin' underneath.
03:49They even had a weddin' dance and he joined in the fling.
03:53He brought along his dancing shoes, but didn't bring no ring.
03:58The Clampetts was a-plannin' for a weddin' in the vale.
04:02But they was duped, he flew the coop, and went runnin' back to Yale.
04:13And now the Clampett clan is here to even up the score.
04:17I wouldn't want to be the man who opens up that door.
04:21He'll have to face their fury.
04:23On revenge they are intent.
04:25And if his name is Drysdale, his life ain't worth a cent.
04:32It's that butler, Helen.
04:35What will you Clampetts learn?
04:37There are no possums to hunt in Beverly Hills.
04:39Ain't possums we've after.
04:40It's Drysdale.
04:42Well, they're not at home.
04:43Mrs. Drysdale returned to Boston with Sonny,
04:46and Mr. Drysdale's at the bank.
04:48Let's shoot him!
04:49There ain't gonna be no shootin' unless there's talk first.
04:52When will Mr. Drysdale be home?
04:54Not until late this evening.
04:56That's talk enough.
04:57Let's go to shoot.
04:58Now, Granny, you can't shoot an unarmed man.
05:01That's right.
05:01I lost my head.
05:03Here!
05:04Now, when death row counts three, we go at it!
05:07One, two...
05:09Now, hold on.
05:10Mr. Butler here ain't done us no wrong.
05:13He's one of their clan.
05:15I said there ain't gonna be no shootin' unless there's talk first.
05:18I'll speak to Mr. Drysdale.
05:20Thank you kindly, Mr. Butler.
05:21Yes.
05:23Thank you very kindly, Mr. Butler.
05:26Why didn't you ask him to dance with you?
05:28I was ashamed of you in front of these young'uns.
05:31Is that any way to learn them feudin'?
05:34Ah, it takes my family to know how to feud.
05:37Why, we drove the Botkins clean out of Napoleon, Tennessee, chased them off, burnt their shack, and shoveled their footsteps
05:44off the path.
05:45Hot diggity dog!
05:47That's what I call feudin'.
05:48I'm sure proud to come from a family like yours, Granny.
05:51That's the Moses family.
05:53Too bad our blood is being thinned out, cooled off, and watered down with the clamped blood.
06:00Now, Granny, you just simmer down to a boil.
06:02Well, I'll see the right thing is done by my daughter.
06:04Jethro, you drive me down to the bank.
06:07Drysdale, me, you'll have a man-to-man talk.
06:10Hmph!
06:10Ain't you about a man and a half short?
06:18You wait here, and I'll go and see Mr. Drysdale.
06:20You flush him out, Uncle Jed.
06:21I'll get him on the run.
06:24Now, who told you to bring that?
06:25Granny.
06:26She says there's gotta be one fightin' man in the family.
06:29You just drive around a while and cool off.
06:32Pick me up here in about a half hour.
06:34Okay, Uncle Jed.
06:58Grady!
07:00Grady!
07:02Grady!
07:04Come quick! They captured Uncle Jed!
07:06Granny!
07:11Jekko says they got Paul. Come on, Granny!
07:16The dry steel's got Uncle Jed.
07:18I dropped him off at the bank, and when I come back, they carried him off somewhere.
07:23Ambushed, that's what it was. That butler feller.
07:26He told them he was coming, and they laid a trap for him.
07:29What do we do, Granny?
07:30An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
07:33They took one of ours, we'll take one of them.
07:36Where's your gun, Jekko?
07:38I give it to Uncle Jed.
07:39I reckon the Drysdale's got him.
07:42We lost the first battle.
07:44They took our leader and our best gun, but we ain't lost the feud.
07:48Come on!
07:49What Jeb Stewart says when they think they got you licked, attack!
08:07Now, Jethro, when he opens the door, you grab him.
08:09Ellie, hold his gun, yes?
08:13Okay, Granny, let's go!
08:14Put me down!
08:16Put her down, Jethro! We don't want her!
08:18Who don't?
08:19We don't!
08:20Look what's going on!
08:21There's a feud going on!
08:23You know something, Ellie? Feuding's fun!
08:26Jethro, put her down!
08:27They got one of our men folks, we're gonna take one of their men folks!
08:30How about we take her along as kind of an extra?
08:34No!
08:35Not unless they captured one of our women folks!
08:38Ellie Mae, you go in there and surrender!
08:40I ain't gonna do it!
08:42Jethro, put her down!
08:44How about I towed her as far as home, and then let her escape?
08:47Little at a time!
08:49Wait!
08:50What's the meaning of this?
08:52He's the one we want!
08:53You towed him, Ellie!
08:54My arms is full!
08:56Yes!
08:57Put her down before I take you to the woodshed!
09:00You look awful busy, Granny!
09:01Maybe I should go to the woodshed and wait for you!
09:05Who doesn't?
09:06Hit it!
09:06Oh, I think I'd better call the police!
09:08Stop!
09:09You're trapped while you're able to make them!
09:11Now you turn around!
09:13Walk towards our house!
09:14I refuse to take one step!
09:18Now!
09:19You want to walk or you want to limp?
09:21You better run into the telephone, please!
09:23Never mind her, Jethro!
09:24Shoot the telephone wire!
09:31There's what having your mind on women can do to you!
09:34It took you two shots to get that wire!
09:36Oh, Granny!
09:37I got two wires!
09:49I keep a-telling you and a-telling you, I got twenty-five million dollars in Mr. Drydale's bank!
09:54No, you didn't!
09:55They caught you before you got a penny!
09:58You're patient, Doctor!
10:00Obvious delusions of grandeur!
10:03Now, tell me, about this bank attempt, did you have any accomplices?
10:10Any what?
10:11Confederates!
10:12Oh, yeah!
10:13Granny!
10:14She's a Confederate, she's a Tennessee Moses!
10:19Tennessee Moses?
10:20That's right!
10:22Tell me, did she lead her people out of Tennessee?
10:26Sure did, after they whooped the botkins!
10:30Don't you mean the Egyptians?
10:32Well, they probably whooped the Egyptians, too, if they got in their way!
10:35Granny's folks was fighting food!
10:38They certainly were!
10:39They defeated the best fighters Pharaoh had!
10:42I don't know about that, but they whooped the best fighters Napoleon had!
10:47Napoleon!
10:49Doctor, may I?
10:50You may not!
10:51I'm the one who uncovered this hallucination!
10:55Tell me about Napoleon!
10:57Yes!
10:58You say, Granny's folks won that fight?
11:01They sure did!
11:03Over Napoleon?
11:04Oh, yeah! They tromped all over Napoleon!
11:07Fabulous!
11:07But how were they able to do it?
11:09Did they fight with superior weapons?
11:12Oh, they fought with botkins!
11:15I see!
11:16And Napoleon didn't have any botkins?
11:20After Granny's folks got through with them, Napoleon didn't have a botkin left!
11:25I remember the last day of the feud, they got Leif and Luke and Odds!
11:32Odds?
11:33Odds-Botkins!
11:35Please!
11:37Just for a minute!
11:39You wouldn't say, Mr Drysdale!
11:41Oh, perfectly safe to look out through the bars!
11:43After all, it's...
11:44Mr Crabbett!
11:45What the war?
11:46Mr Gene, Mr Drysdale, he sure didn't treat me very good over to your bank!
11:50My first visit, too!
11:51Let this man out of here!
11:52He's got 25 million dollars in my bank!
11:55Open this door! Open it! Open it!
11:57Oh!
11:59Lie down, mister!
12:03Lieutenant!
12:04Lieutenant!
12:05Lieutenant!
12:08Ernie Mae!
12:09Any sign of the enemy yet?
12:12Not yet, Granny! All clear!
12:15Sound the alarm if you see a Drysdale coming!
12:19I will, Granny!
12:28You see, all my employees are trained to be on the lookout for bank robbers, so naturally, when they saw
12:33you walk in with your rifle, their first instinct will appear to them that was just...
12:38You're not mad, are you, Mr Crabbett?
12:40Well, no, not about the bank, but, uh, we saw right upset at Sonny for running off at Jill and
12:46Ellie Mae.
12:47Sonny?
12:48Jill and Ellie Mae?
12:49Well, that's what we'd call her.
12:51He sparked her for two weeks running.
12:53Took her driving, dancing, held her hand, kept her out past dark.
12:58Back where we come from, that's just the same as saying, will ya?
13:01Provided the girl is 12 or better.
13:04Mr. Crabbett, you have my word of honor.
13:06I had no idea that Ellie Mae or any of you took Sonny seriously.
13:10Now, the moment we get to your house, I'm gonna telephone Sonny in Boston.
13:13Get him on the first plane, and he'll be here tonight to propose marriage to Ellie Mae.
13:17Well, now, that sure is gonna smooth Granny's ruffle feathers.
13:21She's been madder than a barefoot centipede standing on a hot rock.
13:26She'll be happy when we get there.
13:28Yes, bless her sweet little heart.
13:41Granny, I see them. They's coming.
13:44How many is they?
13:46Miss Hathaway and Mr. Drysdale. They's holding Pa Preston.
13:50Come on down. We'll stomp them at the gate or blast them at the barricades.
13:57Careful, there's a coming. Get ready to do battle.
14:08Wear your head in the presence of the stars and bars.
14:13They's getting to the gate. Take cover.
14:19Everybody inside, we'll shoot at them through the porthole.
14:29You won't hit Pa, will you, Granny?
14:31Don't worry, honey.
14:32I can hit a new laid egg out of the nest without budging the hen.
14:36Stop it, kid.
14:41Stop where you are. I'll tell you right there.
14:47Granny, it's me, Mr. Drysdale. I'm coming in.
14:52Let's get out of here.
14:54That's one of them Yankees who they're feuding with.
15:03Now, here's the Drysdale mansion where he's fleeing like a rat.
15:07Since Granny put a bullet through his $20 hat.
15:11But even here, he can't escape the scourge of Tennessee.
15:15Cause she's got Ellie spying from the tip top of a tree.
15:20Granny, they took Pa over to the Drysdale's house.
15:23Come on down. We'll go get him.
15:30Well, I reckon we'll have to call her on the telephone.
15:33When Granny's feuding, she's sometimes hard to reason with.
15:35Reckon seeing you with that rifle kind of set her off.
15:38But that woman shot at me.
15:41Oh, Mr. Drysdale, she shot at your hat.
15:43If that little old woman ever goes to throwing lead at you,
15:47you'll be casting a polka dot chatter.
15:50Louise, Ravenswood, why don't you answer the door?
15:53Oh, thank goodness it's you.
15:55The Clampets came and captured Ravenswood.
15:58Captured him?
15:58Yes. And Jethro picked me up in his arms.
16:01He held me and held me and wouldn't put me down.
16:04Why?
16:05He said it was feuding.
16:08Well, now, don't you worry, Marie.
16:10We're gonna get this whole thing all straightened out.
16:12Come on, Jethro. We're going back to the Drysdale's house.
16:15Hot diggity dog. That's the part of feuding I like.
16:18They're taking you with us, Mr. Butler.
16:20And if they harmed one hair on Jed, that one hair you got will pay the price.
16:26Oh, Jethro, please listen to me. Mr. Drysdale's not feuding with you.
16:28He's a peaceful man. He's never shot anything but skeets.
16:33Skeets? How many did he get?
16:35We did very well. Ninety-eight out of a hundred.
16:38That's better than we did with the Bodkins.
16:40You ready, Granny?
16:41Come on, young ones. We got our feuding cut out for us.
16:44That Drysdale's our shooting fool.
16:50Now, Ellie Mae, you carry the flag high and proud.
16:54If they shoot you, don't too let it touch the ground.
16:57Throw it to Jethro as you're falling.
16:59I'll do it, Granny.
17:02What'd you do that for?
17:03If there's any long-range shoot, they'll think he's one of us
17:06and drop him first.
17:08Forward, march!
17:17Hmm. No wonder the phone wouldn't work.
17:20Maurice said Jethro shot down the wires.
17:22Well, we can go next door and use the Miller's phone.
17:25Yep. Been cut with a rifle bullet.
17:28Kinda ragged, though. Jethro must have been upset.
17:31That's bad shooting, to cut those little wires with a rifle?
17:33Why, when that boy puts his mind to it,
17:36he can pick a gnat off a plate of grits at 500 feet and a heavy fall.
17:42I'm the only one who can out-shoot him.
17:45Except for Granny and Ellie Mae.
17:48Well, what skeet shooters you'd make?
17:50What skeet?
17:51Oh, they're clay pigeons. That's what I shoot.
17:53Clay pigeons?
17:54Oh, it's wonderful. I love it.
17:56Your wife must be a first-rate cook.
18:03Now here comes Granny's little band to free their leader Jed.
18:07And anyone that blocks their path might just as well be dead.
18:11For though their numbers may be small,
18:13a flag that leads their way
18:15is the flag that led Pickett's charge at Gettysburg, PA.
18:24Stop for a minute.
18:25I got an idea.
18:27We'll use Mr. Butler here as a decoy and we'll surprise him.
18:30What you mean, Granny?
18:31You lock on the door.
18:33And you yell to him inside that it's you.
18:35Then we'll rush in and we'll get Jed.
18:36And maybe somebody else too, huh Granny?
18:39You keep your mind on your funeral.
18:41Come on.
18:56It's me, Ravenswood. Open up.
18:59Marie.
19:01You may open it.
19:05Nothing to be afraid of. It's just Ravenswood.
19:07Step aside, decoy.
19:09Ellie, you got him.
19:10Jethro.
19:11When they open the door, we'll rush him.
19:18Yeah.
19:19Where's Jed?
19:19What'd you do with him?
19:21Talk fast.
19:22He's not here.
19:23He's next door with Mr. Drysdale.
19:25Search the house, Jethro.
19:27Jethro.
19:28Jethro.
19:29Jethro.
19:30You get Granny?
19:31Put her down.
19:32She's light as a feather.
19:34Put her down and go look for your Uncle Jed.
19:38Now go search the house.
19:40Jethro, you're unfamiliar with the place.
19:43I'll show you a wrong.
19:45What'd you do that for?
19:47A feud is a feud.
19:52Jenny?
19:52Here comes the point, Mr. Drysdale.
19:56I'll pick that varmint off like I picked a bodkin off a rail fence.
20:02What in the world are you doing?
20:04I'm guarding the decoy, Pop.
20:06Ravenswood, you Boston Yankee.
20:08Bear your head in the presence of our flag.
20:11See your horse flag?
20:12My family came from Tennessee.
20:14Mine too.
20:16Jed, I always did like this man.
20:19Why sure, Granny Ann.
20:20He's gonna make Sonny do the right thing by Ellie Mae.
20:23What does that mean, Pop?
20:24Gonna make Sonny come back here and marry you.
20:26I don't wanna marry Sonny.
20:29You see, Granny, the whole doggone feud was for nothing.
20:32Not altogether, Jed.
20:33Why, we might never have known that Mr. Drysdale here was a fine gentleman from Tennessee.
20:39Tell me, ever hear of the Moses family?
20:43Hear of them?
20:44Why, my mother's family feuded with them for years.
20:47You mean your mother was a bonkin?
20:50Mr. Drysdale, don't ask me why.
20:52I just commenced a running.
20:54You heard him.
20:55Run, you yellow bonkin, I'm a Moses.
21:06For a city feller, he sure can run.
21:08Like a scared rabbit.
21:10Well, let's go home.
21:13Put her down.
21:14Oh, listen, Granny, I heard you and Uncle Jed talking about what to get me for Christmas.
21:18This here will save you shopping.
21:21You can't take her home for Christmas, now put her down.
21:26One of these days, I got to have a long talk with this boy.
21:49Well, now it's time to say goodbye to Jed and all his kin.
21:52They would like to thank you folks for kindly dropping in.
21:56They're all invited back next week to this locality.
21:59To have a heaping helping of their hospitality.
22:03Hillbilly, that is.
22:05Set a spell.
22:07Take your shoes off.
22:08Y'all come back now, hear?
22:20This has been a Filmways presentation.
