2026 Round 11 250 Heat 1
Transcript
00:00250 East Division, Heat 1 here in Detroit, let's go!
00:05And he gets a flyer on the inside, good start Davies.
00:09That's his teammate though, the rookie Dundee slips up the inside.
00:14Nice work, really nice work from him.
00:17And Nick Romano got away to a great start aboard the Kawasaki.
00:21And this for Caden is a nice comeback because he had a pretty hard fall earlier today.
00:25Well he did and we were down there on the track, trackside I should say,
00:29when he went down and it was a really hard crash at the end of the whoops,
00:33glad to see he's back up and running.
00:35I want to talk about the number 141 and Nick Romano.
00:38He gets a call from that Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team,
00:42Mitch Payton and the crew, to fill in for Drew Adams, who is injured, healing up.
00:49What an incredible opportunity for this young man.
00:52An incredible opportunity for Caden Dundee as well because he got the big promotion,
00:56he got the big call up after running an SMX next.
01:00But he's found a tough going in the mains.
01:02He's yet to crack the top 10 as he leads this heat.
01:05Will?
01:06Just going back to Romano there, Lee and Ricky, it was incredible the ride that he got.
01:11But he told me that he kept himself in the best shape of his life without a ride.
01:16His agent, Jimmy Button, they were putting out the calls,
01:18asking, trying to sort of get a filling spot where they could.
01:21And he said, look, worst case scenario, I'm in the best shape of my life.
01:24Best case scenario, I'm ready when a ride comes.
01:27And it has come.
01:28You said he was on Drew Adams bike there.
01:30Also, Ricky, with his settings.
01:32This week, this past week testing, he said this is tailored now more to him.
01:36And his expectations are higher coming in here tonight.
01:38Yeah, I would agree with that too.
01:40And how he is riding right now.
01:41I mean, this is a kid who's had an unbelievable amateur career.
01:44And he's showed some speed and some promise.
01:46But, man, it is so great to see him.
01:49Track is fresh right now.
01:51And, hey, the rookie, Dudney, out there making it happen.
01:55All right, watch third place.
01:56All in red there.
01:57Here comes Cole Davies.
01:59He will not be enjoying seeing his teammate out in front, nor Nick Romano.
02:04And how about Joe Shimoda, bottom box.
02:07Joe's got some work to do.
02:08He's buried down at seven.
02:10And that's a rare position for Joe to be in.
02:13Rarely do you see him get a bad start like that.
02:17He is so consistent in his starts.
02:19Has been all season.
02:23Looking a little further down the order.
02:25Behind Casey Cochran, who makes his return to racing.
02:28We'll talk more about him in a moment.
02:29He's behind Luke Cloud.
02:31And then you've got Luca Marsalisi.
02:33He is the only triumph rider in this 250 East division here in Detroit.
02:40So he's off to a terrific start as well.
02:46Quick reminder, you see that QR code bottom left of your screen.
02:49Scan that QR code for your chance to win an Insta 360 camera.
02:53It's fast.
02:54It's easy.
02:54Scan now.
02:55Enter the win.
02:55Yeah, fast.
02:56Those things are so cool.
02:58The 360 around.
02:59I use them a lot on my adventure rides that I go to.
03:02You guys got to check them out.
03:03They're great.
03:03There goes Joe Shimoda, bottom box, past Marsalisi.
03:06So Joe's made progress.
03:07Meanwhile, look at the top three in the top box.
03:10Dudney Romano Davies.
03:13Let's talk more about the race leader.
03:15Yeah, it's just an interesting dynamic here.
03:18You think about Caden Dudney's leading out front.
03:20He was a graduate of that SMX Next class just this year.
03:24Nick Romano used to be on Monster Yamaha Star Racing.
03:27That's where that break came in.
03:29And then you have another graduate of SMX Next a year and a half ago in Cole Davies.
03:34So all three of these riders have spent their time on Monster Yamaha Star Racing.
03:37And all three of them were stars in the amateur ranks just a few short years ago.
03:41Hey, massive shout-out to Dudney and Romano right now.
03:46Okay, we just talked about how awesome you saw those stats that Cole Davies is doing,
03:50how well he's doing.
03:50Look at this game right now.
03:52But look at Joe trying to make a move by – what did that be?
03:56Cochran.
03:56Yep.
03:57Perfect.
03:58Straight up the inside.
03:59As simple as the corners, as it seems, around that right-handed sweeping turn.
04:04You can make up a lot of ground, really trusting the bike mechanically there
04:08to get the job done for you and get some help.
04:11Nice comeback by Joe.
04:12Next one on Joe's list is the Kawasaki-mounted rider, Luke Clout.
04:18Keep your eye on this section right here where Joe is at.
04:21Some guys electing to go over that tabletop over a huge single to triple out.
04:26It is so hard to get over that single.
04:28And if you don't, you flip your back tire,
04:30you have a high risk of going over the handlebars off that nice jump.
04:34So make sure you keep your eye out there all night long.
04:36Had a good chat with Luke yesterday.
04:38He said he's been struggling with his stats,
04:39so he'll be much more pleased with this to be running in the top four.
04:44Look at this.
04:44Nick Romano, Cole Davies.
04:46Positions have not changed.
04:48Again, a testament to how well these two guys are riding.
04:52I for sure thought that Cole Davies would have made the move by now
04:57just with how fast he was early today in practice.
05:01Look at him.
05:02But there he misses the rhythm lane right there,
05:04and those guys just pull out.
05:07Pull out a lead.
05:10I mean, JT, you're watching Davies.
05:13What are you thinking right now?
05:14Yeah, well, you know, I'm wondering, Ricky,
05:16if it's really a product of the track being so fresh.
05:19You know, we know Davies had this big advantage in the whoops,
05:23but if the whoops are brand new, there's really no edge to be had.
05:26Look how quick those guys are going through there.
05:29Oh, that's a massive crash from Caden Duttony.
05:31That's where he went down earlier today,
05:33but on the other side of the whoops.
05:36Very, very hard crash, but he was extremely lucky to roll out.
05:41He didn't come to a complete stop,
05:43and like Lee said, that is exactly where he fell in practice.
05:47If you could imagine what you just saw there,
05:49how he went down to practice was way worse.
05:52Glad to see him back up hustling,
05:54but everything is good.
05:56Bike starts hopping left to right.
05:58Feet come off the foot pegs.
06:00Down he goes.
06:02Oh, boy.
06:03And just like that,
06:05Cole Davies has got by Nick Romano,
06:07and there's a different Monster Energy Star Yamaha bike out in front.
06:11Things happen quick right here.
06:13Romano may have slowed down or was distracted by watching Duttony crash,
06:19but talk about these whoops.
06:21He had a huge advantage in the qualifying practices,
06:24and the whoops were a bit bigger, and I think over time,
06:27and as the SMX track crew have worked on these whoops,
06:30they've flattened out a little bit,
06:31so A.B. Davies doesn't have the advantage like he had early on in practice.
06:36And you see Joe Shimoda has elevated himself to third.
06:40That's because Luke Clout went down right in front of him
06:43and has dropped outside the transfer zone.
06:47Jeremy Hand is in that all-important ninth and final position.
06:50This track is really sticky here tonight.
06:53The rhythm lanes and the ruts are kind of pulling these riders
06:56from one side of the track to the other.
06:59I heard Hunter Lawrence talking about it after practice.
07:02It's going to be difficult.
07:03Davies looks very calm.
07:05He looks like he's cruising.
07:06This is well and truly in his control.
07:08Heath win for Cole Davies, championship leader.
07:12Starts the night the right way.
07:13Well done, Nick Romano.
07:14He went to the LCQ last week.
07:16Fabulous.
07:17So to go straight through tonight, well done to him.
07:18Big gap back to Shimoda.
07:20Here comes the Honda HRC progressive rider.
07:23That's a good comeback for him.
07:25Wow, great for Caden Dudney to get back up and still finish fourth.
07:30And to Casey Cochran.
07:33Here is that pass that we missed
07:35while we were focused on Caden Dudney's crash.
07:37You see that Romano overjumped the first jump of the rhythm
07:40and he got off sequence.
07:42Oh, contact by Davies and Romano.
07:46Cole has a quick look around and say,
07:48what was that?
07:49Anyway, nonetheless, another win to Cole Davies.
07:54How do you see your daughter?
07:56See you next time.
07:56Once more features.nemon,
07:56talk by Davies. How do you
07:57see her? How do you
07:57me Stu Canada. You see her
