00:00We've referenced this Draymond article a number of times and I jotted down a few things that are
00:06sort of they're broad strokes but to me these were five things that I wanted to point out
00:11from the article they're not just like one-liners or whatever but five observations from from the
00:18Draymond article okay and let's go through these because really kind of in-depth piece on where he
00:25sits within the organizational structure his future the awareness of it all of those things
00:30my number one observation and again you're like some of this is opinion on their part so you could
00:37disagree but Draymond and Steve Kerr both very much presented his repeated blow-ups or as they are
00:48called by the fan base his histrionics they presented them as a choice not something that
00:57Draymond just falls into but a strategic choice at one point Anthony writes as fourth quarter hope
01:08melted away in one particular game Draymond thought about erupting at a referee a coach or an opponent
01:15in an attempt to change the inevitable a favored top tactic of his to shock his team's system but he
01:23said quote no it's not the thing to do I can raise the temperature level of a gym an arena
01:32a team like
01:34crazy like that whenever I want to I started thinking about all the things that Draymond has been
01:43involved in on the court through the years sometimes feeling like they're at the absolute worst time
01:48so I'm not going to say that I buy that his emotions are not part of this at all but
01:54they very much
01:55presented what Draymond does as a strategic choice I think at times it is at other times I do think
02:02that he
02:03loses his his control and there are there's been a couple of games where he's gotten back-to-back
02:09techs in the closing seconds of a ball game that have actually cost them the game and I think there
02:14was one in Charlotte a few years back where you know he just gets uno dos free throws you lose
02:19I
02:20don't think that those are the ones that they're referring to I think sometimes like any manager
02:25right where you're down nine to two and your team is playing lethargically and so you burst out of the
02:30dugout and you you kick dirt on the ump and you get thrown out hoping to send a message to
02:34the team
02:35and that happens with coaches too in the NBA where you get a tech and you're trying to fire up
02:40the
02:40squad and it might be intentional so I do think that some of the things that Draymond does would
02:45fall under that umbrella but not all of them in my opinion no not all I agree with you not
02:48not all of
02:49them um and you know even if like sometimes you might make a choice and go do it and then
02:56realize
02:56once you're doing it oh that didn't work the way that I thought it was going to work or that
03:00didn't
03:00play out the way I thought that it was going to play out like earlier this year when he gets
03:05in a
03:05shouting match with Steve well he was the one doing the shouting and then he just stormed off to the
03:10locker room I don't think that was him intentionally turning up the heat in the gym no I think that
03:15was
03:15him uh the way I read that after reading today what both he and Steve Kerr said about it I
03:23feel like
03:23yes there was some underlying frustration in what was going on with him and the team but I read that
03:29as
03:30his way of being like this isn't working for this team yeah and I am in an overly emotional space
03:37it would be better for me to get out of here before this gets worse and goes somewhere where
03:44we really shouldn't go I thought that was the case uh when that first happened but I don't think that
03:49he intentionally got that mad so that he could leave to send a message that was one of those ones
03:55where he lost it um okay number two the Warriors the Warriors still believe that Draymond is huge
04:06and imperative for winning just not in a lot of box score ways so this is kind of the rub
04:17I think
04:17right now with Draymond and the fan base we watch the game we're seeing the turnovers rise and we'll get
04:24to the turnovers in a second but we're watching somebody who does all of the the non-box score
04:31things he does the non-tangible basketball stuff and it's always been about being a champion well
04:39now this is not even a championship contender so for a lot of fans all the things that he does
04:44now
04:44they're just annoying and it doesn't look like they're tied to winning at all well um I think that
04:52there are some points there but I I found it interesting to kind of bring out what is being
05:00said behind closed doors within the organization and uh I don't think it would surprise anybody that
05:06Steve Kerr still thinks that I wonder if it would surprise any of you that Steph Curry absolutely will
05:13put a flag in the ground and argue with you if you think that Draymond no longer positively affects
05:22winning well you look at the the stats and I know he put this in his article about his plus
05:27minus how
05:28he's I think 14th or 15th all time all time in career plus minus and a lot of that is
05:34you play with
05:35really good players and you're going to have a better plus minus but you see it this year where
05:39he's been a net negative because he's not playing with good players around him when he plays with
05:43good players and Draymond's your I don't know fifth best offensive player and your best defensive
05:48player you're going to have a good team uh Steve Kerr said quote Draymond is the most powerful force
05:55in the room every night when the team is right and he is right he is just an incredible force
06:00for
06:01winning he raises that temperature our awareness our alertness our preparation Steph Curry quote I think
06:08Draymond would tell you he's not going to take an average team and raise their level but when it
06:13comes to a good team he is going to turn them into a championship team those are the quotes from
06:20Steve
06:20Kerr and Steph Curry I was mostly drawn to what Kerr said there at the end he raises the temperature
06:27our awareness our alertness our preparation these are all things that none of us can see when when the
06:34ball goes up and and the game gets played and the box score gets filled we can't see any of
06:40that
06:40yeah that's that's their take that's right and they play with him and it's almost you know a thousand
06:45games with him for Steph and it's clear that when Draymond is on his game and we've talked about this
06:51when he's engaged and interested and challenged even if he doesn't have good players around him
06:56then Draymond's going to play better and the team is going to play better he is absolutely the engine for
07:00that team uh number three turnovers are no longer accepted yeah I mean no they aren't that's that's
07:09why he's played fewer minutes that's why he has has not finished all the games uh Anthony wrote
07:15Kerr long ago implemented an edict for the basically the dynastic warriors Curry and Green could have their
07:24three or four turnovers per game the reward was worth the risk but in December he had a conversation
07:31with Green and it was the first time that Kerr was telling Draymond turnovers are no longer okay
07:38times had changed and that was right before the Draymond left the bench situation I think there was
07:47maybe a few weeks of a little bit of tension there no doubt and Draymond is number one in the
07:52association in turnover percentage the percentage of possessions that result in a turnover I think
07:59it's 25 percent out of 100 possessions so he turns it over basically one in every four possessions that
08:06he's involved in which is far and away the worst in the league yep yep yep yep um he'd happily
08:14go to
08:15the bench so he says happily says he's told the team this um Green has accepted uh all of the
08:24changes and the choices he has let Kerr and Mike Dunleavy know that he is absolutely willing to move
08:30to a bench role if necessary while still believing there is plenty of positive basketball ahead
08:36yeah it doesn't surprise me he started his career coming off the bench and just because you come off the
08:42bench doesn't mean you can't play 28 or 30 minutes the whole thing about starting for from my standpoint
08:49it's more of an ego thing and if the player doesn't have that much of an ego attachment to it
08:54then have
08:54him come off the bench and you know what maybe the first quarter will start out better well I mean
08:59also
08:59we're like we're sitting here talking about what his future is next year the year beyond um this will
09:05happen at some point at some point I think that that's inevitable that Draymond Green is not going
09:12to be like go out there and start and be this undersized five or or what have you like I
09:17don't
09:18know I mean I it also depends on who the five is if he's going to play the four you
09:22know if it's
09:23Porzingis if it's Al Horford if it's people like that they can knock down a three it's okay uh if
09:28it's not
09:29then that probably doesn't work um all of that and then here was the last the number five observation
09:35he absolutely 100 was completely and totally a part of Giannis Attentacompo trade talks and it was
09:43confirmed um because the team called him about it listen to what Anthony writes despite their post
09:51deadline denials the Warriors front office had Green's name included in conceptualized trades that
09:58would have landed them Giannis from the box Green was alerted to this reality a few days before
10:06quote from Green this is probably it and I've got to be okay with that you see so many people
10:12leave places bad and I just didn't want that and he also said uh he didn't want to go play
10:19in Milwaukee
10:19but he didn't want to go play in Milwaukee right he said he was mad for a second but then
10:23he realized
10:24I got to get over this it's Giannis and you know conceptually I guess this is where
10:28Mike Dunleavy can still say you know he was never he was never named in a possible trade offer it
10:35just
10:35didn't get that close but the concept of it so conceptually Milwaukee if we were to call you um
10:42you know hypothetically about Giannis uh what kind of a of a salary would you be looking to get back
10:47maybe something uh along the lines of 27 million a year huh wink wink nod nod we got one of
10:52those guys
10:53well I mean again the point that I made it right it has to include Draymond or Jimmy right it
11:00has
11:00or you can't do it you're not allowed to do it yeah so I mean conceptually sure but it doesn't
11:07mean
11:07that you wrote down on a piece of paper his name and you gave it to Milwaukee and said made
11:12this
11:12concrete offer but yeah absolutely conceptually he was going to be a part of that deal and you know
11:18Draymond even reacted when he went and had that post-game press conference and he you know was
11:23very circumspect about his whole run here and it's been a hell of a run and the whole thing
