00:00It is crossover time, and that means it is brought to you by Bay Alarm.
00:04Rest easy, we've got you covered.
00:06Bayalarm.com, let's welcome in Mark Willard, Dan Dibley.
00:11It's the crossover.
00:12Just as Ross Tucker calls Stiney, skip Stiney.
00:15He's going in.
00:16I gave him my use check stinks.
00:19And, you know, these meathead blockers all stick together.
00:23Yeah.
00:23So, fullback and an offensive lineman, they came, Ross came down my road.
00:28Yeah.
00:29Not totally unsuspecting.
00:31You deserve that.
00:32You deserve that.
00:33There's no question.
00:35I can live with it.
00:35Yeah.
00:36I can live with it.
00:36How are you guys doing?
00:37Dude, people watching today is pretty bananas.
00:39Man, it is.
00:40Walking through here is pretty bananas.
00:42I was telling somebody earlier, I actually got to meet the people I did New Zealand radio with for 15 years.
00:48Come on, dude.
00:49He sent me a message, and so I just did their podcast, whatever, and they were like, man, you know, what do you think about all these people?
00:55I said, the one way you can tell that somebody is somebody, there's seven people behind you, and one of them has a clipboard.
01:01Yeah, exactly.
01:01Dave Portnoy, I thought it was Gandhi, had like a million people.
01:05I go, who is it?
01:06And it was Dave.
01:07I go, wow.
01:07First time he's been compared to Gandhi, by the way.
01:11Very first time.
01:12Yeah.
01:12And less.
01:13Yeah.
01:14There's something I like about the football players, and that is when you see one, you see six people behind him, and you're like, who is that?
01:22I know.
01:23Because there's guys that you just, they're not as recognizable as hoopers or baseball players.
01:29That's why I love football locker rooms.
01:31Truth of the matter is, in any given, and this could be your own team.
01:36Your own team's got what?
01:37How many people on the roster?
01:3955, yeah.
01:4053, yeah.
01:40Okay.
01:41How many of them, if they just walked up on you at the grocery store, would you be like, I know who that is?
01:48You know who Purdy is.
01:49You know who McCaffrey is.
01:50You know who Kittle is.
01:52The starters, I'm good.
01:54But the starters?
01:55Yeah.
01:56Are you sure?
01:56Well, not the Niners this year, because they were so new.
01:59If Upton Stout walked by, would you be like, that's Upton Stout?
02:03I would not.
02:04I'll be real with that.
02:04The secondary's tough because they are like 5'11", 6'4".
02:08Normal size, yeah.
02:09Yeah, and they're obviously more fit and stronger than we are, but it's not like when you see Dominic Poonie, or you see Trent Williams.
02:16You're 6'6", 3", whatever.
02:18Okay.
02:19And Trent, at like age 37, we've had a minute, and we've had boombox.
02:23Yeah.
02:24I largely think if they're not on anyone's fantasy team, you probably don't know who they are in street clothes.
02:28But if this were the Niners of the, and I'm being real, Merton Hanks era, Eric Davis, the former friend of the show station, I would remember those guys, you know?
02:39Yeah, maybe, but that's also because you've had years of now watching them in the media.
02:43Like, this is a thing that walks through this room, like Dibbs just said, five people following some cut-up dude.
02:50Yeah.
02:51Where you're like, that guy's in the NFL.
02:53Yep.
02:53I have no idea who it is.
02:54We had Bryant Young on right next to me.
02:57He looked like he could go get the quarterback.
03:00Steal.
03:01Like, damn good.
03:01He's so awesome.
03:02Yeah, I like what you were asking him about.
03:04Like, you're so well-spoken and, like, soft-spoken and intelligent, and then you get on the field, and he's like, there's this little green man inside me.
03:12And he comes out, because I was thinking about that, because we've all talked to B.Y., and he really is smart and thought-provoking and so many things, and you watch him play football, and it's just pure violence, as they all are.
03:25And so I thought that was a good question and answer, the way he broke that down.
03:30I appreciate that.
03:31By the way, a guy was walking up with seven people behind him, and Goo goes, sign it, check it out, Justin Jefferson.
03:38And I was like, he's like, see if we can get him over.
03:40I was like, I would.
03:42And Evan goes, that's not Justin Jefferson.
03:44It looked just like him.
03:45It was.
03:45He didn't have a goal front.
03:46George Jefferson?
03:48Somebody.
03:49Nobody even knows who it was.
03:50Thank you, Jim.
03:51Well, if you need a wide receiver one, I'm on Ross St. Brown.
03:55He's about 100 feet away.
03:58So have you guys had an improv guest to where I did Dr. Oz a couple years ago?
04:03Man, I got hell for that.
04:05He pulled up.
04:06We had to say, Doc, it's time to go.
04:07He wanted to stay.
04:09Have you pulled anybody in yet that wasn't on the marquee that you saw?
04:13Pull up.
04:13That wasn't planned.
04:14Yeah, spontaneous.
04:16Yeah, spontaneous.
04:16Baldy just came up and sat down yesterday.
04:18Oh, well, that's not missed that.
04:20Yeah.
04:20That wasn't planned.
04:22How long did he stay?
04:23I don't know.
04:2415, 20 minutes.
04:25The tough one is, and this doesn't happen as much anymore, and I know you've gone through this, Mark,
04:29where somebody sits down, and you don't know who it is.
04:33Right.
04:33And your producer's either getting a coffee or on their phone, and so you're waving, and
04:39you're waving.
04:39You're like, hey, thanks for joining us.
04:41How's that life of yours going?
04:43I would say, how do you spell your name, fellas?
04:45I mean, there's so many things you get to before.
04:47I'm sorry.
04:48I mean, you don't want to get to, I'm sorry, sir.
04:50Who are you again?
04:50I still remember the man's name.
04:54Damien Square, lineman for the then San Diego Chargers, and we were down at training camp,
05:01and the producer, the worst part about it is the stupid look on the producer's face.
05:05They're all happy that they got you someone.
05:07They come over, and they sit him down, and they pat him on the back, and then they pat you
05:11on the back, and they go, all right, do great radio, and I'm telling you, seven questions
05:18in before, bless him, my partner at the time, Rich Ornberger, finally just goes, who are
05:24you?
05:26Did he laugh at least before?
05:27I mean, what can you do?
05:29He's like, I'm sorry.
05:30You don't have your help.
05:31I don't know.
05:32I don't know who you are.
05:34It's like when you meet somebody, and then you forget their name, and then you see him
05:37like five or six more times, and then the seventh time you see him, you're like, I don't
05:41know this person's name, and so your spouse comes up, and you're like, hey, honey, I want
05:45to introduce you to somebody, and you hope they're like, hey, I'm Jim.
05:48Exactly.
05:48Jim.
05:49There we go.
05:49That's right.
05:50There we go.
05:50But on live radio, it's not as easy.
05:52No, it's not.
05:53But no, so we haven't had that yet.
05:55We haven't had that yet.
05:56And actually, an interesting day, right, because we're probably trying to, our producers
06:02are looking at this a little differently than what they normally would.
06:05We're actually doing the opposite.
06:07They're putting the Heisman up a little bit to like, you know, Babalu, whatever, wants
06:12to come over here and tell us about Wingstop, and they played in the NFL 14 years ago.
06:18We're like, let's talk Draymond.
06:19Yeah, no doubt.
06:20Let's talk Draymond.
06:21What did you make of the game and his comments after?
06:25So many.
06:25Well, the game was pathetic.
06:28That's worse than what I see.
06:29Yeah, I'm glad.
06:30Disheartening.
06:31Glad Steve Kerr just called that for what it was.
06:33That was an awful watch.
06:35I turned it off before it was over.
06:36I was falling asleep.
06:38That was a pointless effort and pointless game.
06:40The Draymond thing afterward was equal parts emotional, interesting, and I'd love to hear
06:47you got, like, why?
06:50Why is he being so open about this and talking at such length about it?
06:57Well, I'll go first.
06:58About it, yeah.
06:59Because it went public, and I shared with you and Dibbs and Stoney yesterday, and I
07:03brought it up on our show today.
07:05It's interesting, and I'm not blaming anybody or saying who did it or leaked it for a reason,
07:10but he's a gladiator.
07:12This we know, Draymond.
07:13And this has to be humbling.
07:15Even if there's no move that the team would put out there or somebody would get that intel
07:21that, Mark, we're finally going to do what you said Monday that hit me, Mark.
07:25It was profound.
07:25You know, they've never stood up to him.
07:27I think this is just a little nuggy-nug of you're expendable, and we see a way where
07:34we can move on without you, Dibbs.
07:36You have no choice, basically, but to just take it and do what he's doing, because I
07:41like what he's saying, being honest.
07:43But there is something eating at me that if there is no trade, how does he change?
07:49And I'm pointing at Dibbs like he's Dray after, because I'll be able to tell if there's
07:53any change.
07:54But you've got to be humbled.
07:55Kendrick Lamar, just by them saying, we would include you if we got the right deal.
08:00I think it's humbling just being where he is in his career, honestly.
08:04Thirteen and a half years in one spot.
08:06So for me, yesterday, it wasn't so much an absolute final goodbye as much as it was a
08:11man who is circumspect.
08:14He's looking at the whole thing and saying, this has been great.
08:17What a great blank and run.
08:18Thirteen and a half years.
08:19And if this is it, if I end with that performance and that's my last warrior game, well, he was
08:25kind of looking back, I think, with pride and joy and no remorse, no sadness.
08:29And if he stays, I wouldn't expect him to suddenly be a changed man.
08:34Dre's got a Dre.
08:35He would continue to play the way he's always played.
08:37And I don't think that he's apologetic about the way he's played.
08:40But, okay, how does that conversation go?
08:44Is it, look, you're in the deal for Giannis, and it's Giannis, or is the conversation, we're
08:54including your name in conversations in a more general sense.
08:59That's a difference to me.
09:00Like, that I do, that I wonder about.
09:03I have no concerns over whether or not Draymond will still do whatever he does if he's not
09:08dealt.
09:10But that conversation clearly happened.
09:13I think it must be on some level therapeutic for him to put it out there because it didn't
09:18need to be.
09:19He's made it more public than it was.
09:22Very clearly.
09:23As did Steve Kerr.
09:26And if you look at their past behavior with Draymond, it's almost like they really felt
09:32we better smooth this out before it happens, just in case it happens, because of his standing
09:42within the organization.
09:44Yeah, I think that's fair.
09:45And he deserves that.
09:48I mean, he doesn't deserve to be blindsided by a trade.
09:52And I do think it's a million different things coming to the fore.
09:57One is, you know, he's coming to the end of his career, and he's seen so much and been
10:05on the other side of it that I think he is thinking, you know, I've been immune from this
10:10for my whole career.
10:11And now I realize that when your name gets mentioned, it affects you.
10:19I didn't even really have to deal with my name ever getting mentioned because I was never
10:23going anywhere.
10:24And he's probably like, I'm still probably not going anywhere.
10:27But now if it happens, you know, I get why.
10:32And I gave him love, Draymond, for not going, quote unquote, Draymond by this news getting
10:39out.
10:39And that's why I think not he shocked a lot of people, but I was surprised.
10:44But then I took some of that credit away.
10:46I went to Equifax.
10:47I took some of that away because I'm like, what other way could he act?
10:52Go up there like, I can't believe my name was in the trade.
10:55So he handled it presidential.
10:57But I think that's the only way you one could handle it.
11:01You couldn't go up there punching a, hey, what's he had to be.
11:04He's doing what he reflective like Dib said.
11:07You could have said nothing.
11:08Wow.
11:10Could have said nothing.
11:11Now, with you saying nothing, are you saying that you're mad and don't ask me about it?
11:16No.
11:16Because that's how it would take if you wouldn't mute on it.
11:19Okay.
11:19How easy is it if a reporter goes, hey, there are reports out there about your name being
11:25involved in trade chatter.
11:26Right.
11:27And your response is, I mean, those reports.
11:31Like, there's nothing we can do about those reports.
11:34They're out there all the time.
11:35That's definitely what you could have did.
11:36Social media.
11:37Look, if something like that were to happen, then, you know, okay.
11:40But, like, I mean, I can't control that.
11:43End of story.
11:44Instead, he's like, yeah, we've all been talking about this behind the scenes every day for
11:49the last week.
11:49The front office and Steve and Steph, we're all just, we're around the fire every night
11:55with a cocktail and a discussion and a dream.
11:58Like, he didn't have to do that.
12:01And he did that.
12:01And I'm like, why?
12:03That's what's interesting to me, yeah.
12:05You're listening to 95.7, the game, KGMZ FM and HC1 San Francisco on Odyssey Sports Station
12:10in the home of the Warriors and the Valkyries.
12:14Hey, Goo.
12:14So, you feel like Dre handled that last night with grace, with honesty, and, you know, came
12:25off looking good.
12:26Well, I kind of feel like that's the only play he had.
12:29Well, that's fine.
12:30Okay.
12:30I think we can lose presidential.
12:34Because that's not presidential anymore.
12:36Like, being measured, being, you know, you know, you know what, I like that.
12:43I see where you're going, baby.
12:43Let's use another word.
12:44Yeah.
12:45The whole idea of presidential is a very wide swath.
12:48He's taking a shot at somebody.
12:49Yes.
12:50Yes, I got that.
12:51That one did not go over my head.
12:52I got that.
12:53I got that.
12:53I mean, you can go to any number of former presidents and talk about what was presidential
12:58at the time, whether or not it was co-mingling with staff members or other things.
13:04So, the idea of the term presidential, can we leave it as the way he intended it?
13:09See, this is what I was referring to.
13:10Yeah, sure.
13:10Now he was back on the set.
13:12I've seen him somewhere, too.
13:13No, he was on with us yesterday.
13:15Fantastic yesterday.
13:16He does Biden and Trump, and probably other past presidents.
13:20The Trump is funny.
13:21Oh, yeah, he's a riot.
13:23No.
13:23The impersonations of Trump.
13:27Not the man itself.
13:28Let's move on.
13:30We had Jim Gray on, and we didn't get to it.
13:33We didn't ask him who his favorite president of all time was.
13:36I'm glad you didn't do that.
13:36But we got the answer after.
13:38Who's the guess?
13:39Jim Gray's favorite president of all time?
13:41I've interviewed every president since Nixon.
13:42Abraham Lincoln.
13:43I would know.
13:44I would say it would be H.W.
13:50George H.W. Bush would be his favorite.
13:52This is why he's a former athlete at Yale.
13:56And it's funny because my brother-in-law's father-in-law went to Yale with George H.W. Bush.
14:04And so every time we get together with Family Functions, it's stories about George W.
14:10And the Yale baseball team.
14:12I could have sworn you were about to say that you coached Jim Gray at volleyball at Marin Catholic.
14:17I for sure thought that's what you were about to say.
14:19It was a George H.W. Yale thing where, yeah, shout out the in-laws.
14:23Hey, can I, can I, I want to pick your guys' brain on this, too.
14:27Oh, come on, please.
14:28I wonder at a press conference like that, like last night, how does that make fans feel?
14:33Real, real easy, I think, the last couple months to kind of do the whole, like, Draymond's washed, I'm sick of his act, he's not effective anymore, we need to include him in trade talks, and it's the classic you-don't-know-what-you-got-till-it's-gone kind of a thing.
14:52Like, what if that happens in three hours?
14:56What if Draymond Green is no longer a warrior?
15:01And how does that suddenly, like, I think it hits different.
15:05It's easy to say, but Draymond Green.
15:09Oh, no, it would be, it would be.
15:11Draymond Green.
15:12From his standing and what he's meant, humongous, but from the science of basketball and how they're currently constructed.
15:20I get it.
15:21Minute on the court, and I think we, they know it by the plus-minus, but they're riding with him.
15:27Now I feel like if he doesn't get traded and Kerr really knows he's out of here, he'll dibs, you're going to do the same job you've been doing for 14, let's ride this one out, you know?
15:37So I'm trying to connect those dots, but as far as how he's saying it, it's a verbal, and he's not, this is not his intent, but it gives me the verbal white flag of he knows.
15:49This current team right now, we ain't got it.
15:52And he probably hadn't been there like this ever, but that's how I'm taking him being so open and transparent with us that he knows, yeah, this team needs something.
16:02And if I'm in the trade, I wouldn't like it, but I understand.
16:05I think he also knows that it's over.
16:07So let's say he doesn't get traded, and he stays.
16:10They make no trade, and last night is more indicative of who this team is, and so whatever, you're going to wind up to 10.
16:17There's no way you can be 11.
16:19You're losing the play and fine.
16:20Next year will be a last dance feel.
16:23Draymond Green next year, no matter where he is, I believe will be his final year.
16:28It'll be year 15.
16:29It's going to be like Saran.
16:31It's a wrap, and so.
16:32But no last dance, because last dance, we thought they had a chance to win it.
16:36This will be last dance.
16:38It depends what they do in the summer.
16:39I mean, and again, I'm not saying it's going to be the same type of last dance, but I think for Draymond, no matter what happens today or tomorrow, it's a year and a half left, and then he's off to broadcast.
16:49Yeah, it's funny.
16:50You guys were thinking, you know, talking about Draymond.
16:52I mean, to me, if they announce that Draymond's been traded, it's really the organization saying this is over.
16:59And I don't necessarily, I don't necessarily talking championships, but this iteration of the Warriors is officially over.
17:06Where Klay was pulling away from this organization.
17:10Right, he wanted to go.
17:12But Draymond does not want to be traded.
17:13No.
17:14He does not want to be traded.
17:15And so, if they trade Draymond, to me, it's like that's the first time that they kind of went against a star.
17:22I mean.
17:23Or specifically this one.
17:25Yes, exactly.
17:26Specifically this one.
17:27He was undefeated, as you had laid out the other day.
17:29That's, to me, I watched that last night, and the first thought, because we don't know yet, is 2.06 in the afternoon.
17:38What do we got?
17:39We got 22 hours to go.
17:41Bobby Marks said a couple hours ago, we're going to know by midnight, and he means Eastern time.
17:48So, that's 9 o'clock.
17:49That's only in seven hours.
17:50He goes, if there's a Bucs trade, we're going to know, in his opinion, by 9 o'clock.
17:55Because these things are complicated and need to come together.
17:59And I'm looking at this thing, and I'm going, this might be the end of an era.
18:05We don't know yet.
18:07But that's kind of where my head is today.
18:09It's like, the Warriors don't play until tomorrow night.
18:13The deadline is tomorrow.
18:14We may have just ended an era.
18:17We don't know yet.
18:18I just, I wonder how that feels to everybody.
18:22It's a mixed bag, for sure.
18:23And I put a poll on Twitter, and I said, do you think Draymond Green's played his last game as a Warrior?
18:2963% no.
18:3137% yes.
18:32Yeah, I'm with the no.
18:33I'm with the no.
18:34I'm going to say yes.
18:35Well, it's kind of, and it's actually been swinging in the yes way.
18:38And so, I think the yes people are, a lot of them are the hopeful people.
18:42People saying, I hope he's played his last game.
18:45And the no people, I think, are, we can still do it.
18:48Let's bring the band back.
18:49And so, it'll be interesting to see what they do.
18:51That whole thing last night hit me in a different way.
18:54I was just impressed with his honesty and his vulnerability more so than I was, like, emotional about it.
19:01It was very much like, here's a man, 13 and a half years, who appreciates what he's had.
19:07One city for his family.
19:09A great plank and run.
19:10And all the rest of it.
19:11And so, I think he's at peace with what the future holds.
19:15I mean, I was watching Mark Spears talk about this a couple hours ago on ESPN.
19:18And I guess he spoke to Draymond one-on-one last night.
19:22And he's like, Draymond is fully aware.
19:24He's like, dude, that was the second-round pick.
19:27And I've turned this into $250 million.
19:31And we've gotten to live in one city the whole time.
19:33So, it's like, this isn't, like, sad, to me at least.
19:38It's not, like, sad for Draymond.
19:40Sad for Warrior fans if this is kind of the end of an era, if you will.
19:46But, I mean, I'm largely with you, Dibs.
19:49Like, I thought.
19:50And, Stiney, I think you started the show by saying this.
19:52I thought he said all the right things.
19:54I think it's impressive that he can stand up there and say that.
19:59But I did continue to ask myself, why?
20:01Like, why did the Warriors decide?
20:05Because Steve did it with us the other day, too.
20:07Why did they decide to be so open with the idea that Draymond might go?
20:13I do think there's something to be said for if you think there's a 10% chance
20:18and it's somebody like Draymond who's different than just your run-of-the-mill player,
20:23a guy who's, you know, been here for almost 14 years,
20:26then you do owe it to him to say, look, you know how it goes.
20:31Deals are, trades are hard.
20:33But, you know, there's an outside chance that something could happen.
20:38You know, I'd like to think he appreciated that and they did him a solid
20:42and then at the end of the day he probably won't be moved.
20:44Right.
20:45But then they decided to share that with us.
20:47Right.
20:47Ahead of time.
20:48Yeah.
20:49Ahead of time.
20:50But if he is traded, then he won't have the opportunity after Thursday's game to do that.
20:54I was actually thinking that, too, Dibs.
20:57It's true.
20:57Good call.
20:58It's true.
20:58If he gets traded today, he's probably gone because they're in Phoenix.
21:02Right.
21:02And so this was a nice way for him to kind of sum it all up.
21:07And if he were to get traded, he kind of said goodbye and he's okay with it.
21:12Another thing I saw that I didn't like real quick here is beyond Draymond, our young players,
21:19I'm not mad at any of them.
21:20They are who they are.
21:22But we don't have a lot of what the other – forget the records.
21:24I watch a lot of teams and I'm like, that, that, that.
21:29We don't have a lot of that.
21:30And that was on display.
21:31I think you said the game got born and I was looking around just to myself, like, after the party.
21:36You guys didn't ask me how that went, I'll tell you later.
21:38But I'm just saying to myself, we don't have – there's nothing to look forward to right now.
21:45Like, that was – that's not a good feeling.
21:48They look athletically behind for sure.
21:52Challenge.
21:52Athletically challenge.
21:53I'm mindful of what those players that you're watching, though, are asked to do in the framework of the Warriors.
21:59None of them are ones or twos or threes.
22:02That's not what they are.
22:04Like, I don't know.
22:05Let's go around to the other teams.
22:07Everybody's got dudes that just like Moses Moody.
22:10Just post up over there.
22:11Just wait over there.
22:13And if the ball moves to you, fire that three.
22:15Everybody's got that.
22:17Right now, the Warriors are asking those guys to go get buckets.
22:21Create a shot.
22:21They can't do it.
22:22It looks so hard.
22:23They can't do it.
22:24They can't do it.
22:25So, I would like – if you went to any NBA team, like, okay, let's do Philly.
22:30I know Embiid was out.
22:31Yeah.
22:31What if Maxey was also out?
22:33Man.
22:34You know what I mean?
22:34Yes.
22:35And Grimes, and we could go through the whole list and be like, okay, okay, number eight, go get a bucket.
22:43And they probably wouldn't look very good either.
22:46And that's why here I go before I go.
22:48Yeah.
22:48The Kaminga, had he been further down the road, this would be – oh, there's – you know, we can look forward to that.
22:54Not he's going to be Jordan.
22:55But okay.
22:56Yeah, that's the number seven.
22:57Let's go.
22:58Or maybe if you would have drafted a better player or somebody who was already further down the road.
23:03And, you know, we've been playing a lot of Candyland with a three-year-old.
23:06And, you know, if you get the gumdrop, if you pull the gumdrop, you're down the road.
23:10Yeah, wow.
23:10But, you know, Kaminga was starting at square one, and injuries and inactivity.
23:15He's had some bad – like, he's hurt.
23:17Can you tell where Jim's at?
23:19He's literally at the gingerbread man.
23:20This is right.
23:20Yeah.
23:21Yeah.
23:21Like, the problem with your analogy is that the people sitting at this table all did that, but I can't remember that anymore.
23:29I grew up with it.
23:29That was 20 years ago, and I don't remember the Candyland rules.
23:34The game still hits nice, and I'll say this.
23:36Where are you going?
23:36Three-year-olds who don't win, they still get upset.
23:39Yeah.
23:40That's time-honored.
23:41Just don't confuse it with chutes and ladders.
23:44There's some similarities in those games.
23:46Actually, some, yes, in that you go from space to space, but that's more of a four-year-old game.
23:51Greg Cosell's going to be at this table.
23:53I'm waiting for him.
23:55He's going to be at this table in 45 minutes.
23:57We've got a Super Bowl MVP coming by Vaughn Miller.
24:00Oh, nice.
24:01Yeah, but I want everyone to know, today, actually, we're at Radio Row, but we want to talk to you.
24:07We want to talk to you all about Draymond.
24:09Fair enough.
24:10And you're going to talk about Draymond on 95.7 The Game.
24:13Good job, Stiney.
