00:00Welcome back to Newswire here on Sports Grid.
00:02Baseball seemingly all about pitching, don't I know all that well?
00:06We're going to preview some games coming up tonight on the baseball slate.
00:09Of course, Kevin Walsh will be along later with game time decisions to break most of these down.
00:14But let's begin with the first start of the season for Jacob DeGrom of the Texas Rangers.
00:20DeGrom was scratched by the Rangers over the weekend.
00:22He'll face off against the Baltimore Orioles and Zac Eflin.
00:26Right now, Texas sits minus 132 on the money line with a total of eight and a half
00:31because generally runs are scored in Baltimore.
00:35Eight and a half the total DeGrom versus Eflin as Texas with a strong start offensively to their season.
00:43Meanwhile, another pitcher will make a start to actually two pitchers that have had some injury issues through the years
00:49who will get to start today.
00:50One in particular that I'm very interested in seeing, I believe it's his first start in almost a year and
00:54a half.
00:54That is Shane McClanahan back on the mound for the Tampa Bay Rays.
00:58They take on the Milwaukee Brewers and Brandon Woodruff.
01:02Tough one to call here.
01:03Brewers are favored in the game, but the total is seven and a half.
01:10Total seven and a half in this one.
01:12Minus 138.
01:13Milwaukee is favored in this one.
01:15And naturally, they're playing very well at home, including a big walk-off shot, of course.
01:19Not walk-off, but a two-run home run winning shot from Christian Yelich over the weekend.
01:24All right.
01:259.40 p.m. Eastern.
01:26As we get later into the day, we'll see if Max Freed can continue his red-hot pitching.
01:32Fared well against the Giants.
01:34And then tonight, he goes up against Logan Gilbert of the Seattle Mariners.
01:38The total in that one is very low in seven.
01:40As you can see, the Yankees favored ever so slightly.
01:44Minus 112 on the money line.
01:46Seattle minus 104.
01:47So you're basically going to be laying one way or the other.
01:51A little bit of minus money.
01:52That should be one of the games of the night.
01:54Should be a good pitching matchup as well.
01:569.40 p.m. Eastern.
01:58The San Francisco Giants won a game yesterday.
02:01They really needed that one.
02:03They get the first win of the game of the season.
02:06Logan Webb will take on Herman Marquez.
02:09Marquez coming over to San Diego from Colorado in the offseason.
02:13As it stands right now, Logan Webb minus 144.
02:17Total of seven and a half.
02:19And the Padres, if you take them, it's a little bit of plus money.
02:22Webb struggled in his first outing against the Yankees.
02:27We'll see if he can do better this time around.
02:29And then the matchup tonight may not be great on paper.
02:33But it is the pitching debut this season for Shohei Otani of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
02:40And, of course, you're going to have to lay big numbers tonight.
02:43They're minus 260 are the Dodgers with a total of eight.
02:46The Guardians, who came up big last night, plus 215.
02:50Total, as I mentioned, of eight in this one.
02:52And the reason why is I think Bibby's a little bit uncertain as to how he could perform for Cleveland.
02:56But Otani naturally expected to go about 75-80 pitches.
03:00So that puts him at the four or five inning mark.
03:03Otani versus Bibby.
03:05Dodgers versus Guardians here today.
03:08Recapping some of the highlights in Major League Baseball yesterday.
03:12It was kind of like a dial-it-back day as Jose Altuve hit a couple of home runs for
03:17the Houston Astros yesterday.
03:18But he wasn't the only one, as a lot of other players had big games.
03:22They would include Paul Messick of the Cleveland Guardians.
03:26Six-innings pitch.
03:27No one runs.
03:28Five strikeouts.
03:29Stephen Kwan, three for five.
03:31An RBI one-run score.
03:32Mookie Betts on the side of the Dodgers went one for four in that one.
03:35Lance McCullers with the win for Houston, by the way, in that game I mentioned with the Astros.
03:41Seven innings pitched.
03:42One-run, one walk, and nine strikeouts.
03:44Altuve with those two home runs also went four for four yesterday and drove in two runs as well.
03:52The Rockies, after being swept in Miami, put up a 14 spot on the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada.
03:59They were getting plus 200 in that game yesterday.
04:01Ezekiel Tovar had three hits.
04:03Troy Johnston of the Rockies hit his first home run of the season.
04:06He was two for five.
04:08Those two teams will face off again tonight.
04:10The Yankees took a loss to the Seattle Mariners in walk-off fashion.
04:14It wasn't home, and it was Cal Raleigh who didn't start the game, but he had a single in the
04:19bottom of the ninth, and they end up winning.
04:21Luis Castillo did not get a decision.
04:23He went six-innings pitch, seven strikeouts.
04:26Ryan Weathers, 4.1 innings pitch, seven strikeouts as well.
04:29The Nationals beat the Phillies 13-2 as the Nats are off to a better start than anybody could have
04:35imagined right now.
04:36They beat the Phillies, and Joey Weimer, a player they picked up off waivers this offseason, ended up getting on
04:44base the most consecutive times to start a season.
04:48Ten straight consecutive on-base streak.
04:51Incredible.
04:52It did end up getting snapped, but the Nationals pick up the win.
04:56Foster Griffin, five innings pitched, five strikeouts.
04:59Meanwhile, if you are getting ready for the NCAA tournament, get ready and download the Sports Grid app, because the
