00:08Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're taking a look at 10 of the toughest boomer shooters that you can play
00:15right now.
00:24Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to MojoPlays, and ring the

00:33Wizzordum
00:41On the surface, Wizzordum looks like it could be the easiest boomer shooter on the market, what with its cheery
00:47visuals and whimsical music to match the high fantasy aesthetic.
00:51However, there is quite a bit of challenge hiding within.
00:55Wizzordum places a heavy emphasis on magic, uncovering secrets, and avoiding environmental hazards,
01:00making spatial awareness a key part in your survival, as well as a bit of thinking outside of the box.
01:11Things do start getting more harrowing after a few levels as you acquire new spells and abilities,
01:15but the difficulty spike is par for the course in this FPS subgenre anyways.
01:30Star Wars Dark Forces
01:41What makes Dark Forces truly shocking in its challenge first and foremost is just how accurate the Stormtroopers are.
01:49Man, where were you guys in the movies, huh?
01:51Joking aside, the biggest hurdle you'll face in Dark Forces is not the variety of Stormtroopers and Imperial officers, but
01:59the levels themselves.
02:09A lot of the maps you'll encounter feel a bit haphazardly thrown together, so a lot of your time might
02:15be spent wandering around and trying to figure out where exactly you are.
02:19Hey, at least the gunplay and the movement feel just as good as Doom.
02:29Heavy Bullets
02:36One might look at heavy bullets and dismiss it as the antithesis of boomer shooters.
02:41In some cases, it is, as you will only ever use a single weapon, your trusty six-shooter.
02:47But what makes this a difficult boomer shooter is how you move at considerable speed, much like the famed Doom
02:53guy, only to be forced to conserve your ammo.
03:02Should you miss a shot, you'll have to retrieve your bullet before enemies can chase you down, and if you're
03:07not paying close attention to where enemies are at, and where your misfired bullets landed, you can wind up with
03:13either a very light chamber, or worse, one hit away from death.
03:26Nightmare Reaper
03:36Speaking of boomer shooters that try to limit your power, Nightmare Reaper is excellent in both its gunplay and how
03:42it maintains the pressure on the player.
03:43While you'll come across a litany of unholy weapons to shred enemies with and carry you to the exit, you
03:49are only allowed to keep one weapon from your inventory to carry into the next level.
04:02This adds an element of strategy to Nightmare Reaper, as you'll have to consider each weapon's utility, ammo count, DPS,
04:09and whatever else you deem important.
04:11Upgrades may help mitigate your losses later once acquired, but even so, you'll have to enact some careful pre-planning.
04:26Sprawl
04:34If you're looking for a boomer shooter that relies on quick aiming and a ton of wall running, then Sprawl
04:40will definitely give you a run for your money.
04:42Enemies can overwhelm you so quickly that wall running becomes a requirement in maintaining the high ground.
04:48Refine your skills enough and you can wind up reaching insane heights, thus making you a harder target to hit.
05:01But for those of you who aren't wired to comprehend ridiculous game speeds, you might find yourself struggling a bit.
05:07Trust us, once you get the hang of Sprawl, it is immensely satisfying to play.
05:22Ion Fury
05:31Those who are familiar with the classic Duke Nukem 3D might feel right at home with Ion Fury.
05:36Although, one key difference between the two games here is the almighty power behind alt-fire abilities.
05:42Many of Shelly's weapons carry powerful alt-fires that can make mincemeat out of your targets.
05:55Of course, this level of power comes with a caveat, these alt-fires can eat up quite a bit of
06:00ammo if used too frequently.
06:03That said, you may want to use them only when you feel you're outnumbered and outgunned.
06:08As soon as you realize the best situations to use them in, Ion Fury becomes a ton of fun to
06:13play.
06:22Doom 2 Hell on Earth
06:32Many folks, perhaps including some of you out there, probably thought Doom Eternal was going to make this list given
06:38how many folks deemed it to be this super hard entry in the franchise.
06:41No, the hardest game in the Doom franchise goes to Doom 2.
06:56What many don't seem to remember about this game is that it was filled with so many trappings that players
07:02often found themselves soft-locked out of progressing any further in certain levels.
07:07Couple that with Doom 2's handful of new enemies, like the Pain Elemental and the Labyrinth-esque level design, and
07:14suddenly, Doom Eternal looks like mere child's play.
07:17And let me tell you first hand, Doom Eternal is child's play compared to Doom 2.
07:22It's that bad.
07:23ρί SECOND
07:30Seleco
07:41In most Boomer shooters, you may not have to worry too much about being super precise with your shots.
07:47Obviously, you still have to aim, but when you play Seleco, you'll notice there's a higher level of precision needed.
07:52Think if Call of Duty tried its own boomer shooter spinoff.
08:05You'll have to utilize cover and ADS a lot more often than you may be used to,
08:10depending on your level of expertise in FPS games in general.
08:14Not only that, but even Solico's most basic grunts can deplete your health in a moment's notice.
08:19Yeah, you're going to have to be a lot more tactical in your approach here.
08:33Ultra Kill!
08:42Of the boomer shooters to come out in recent years,
08:45Ultra Kill is absolutely the hardest one that you can possibly play.
08:48In order to make it out of every level alive,
08:51you're going to have to think at such a breakneck speed
08:54that it will be almost borderline impossible to comprehend
08:58what you're doing, why you're doing it, and how you're even doing it.
09:07Jump, crouch, slide, wall jump, shoot like a madman,
09:10do anything you can without hesitation, or else you'll be knocking on death's door.
09:14That is the moment-to-moment gameplay of Ultra Kill,
09:18and that level of difficulty is why so many people still play it to this day.
09:30And yet, there's one ancient boomer shooter that still reigns supreme as the hardest of the subgenre.
09:37Blood.
09:47Take everything you know about boomer shooters and what makes some of them hard,
09:51and you have Blood.
09:53The game that tops Doom 2, Ultra Kill, and every single game that came after it in terms of difficulty.
10:00Whether you're playing the original or the fresh supply remaster from Night Dive Studios,
10:05you will find that Blood pulls every single trick in the book.
10:17Enemies hidden around corners,
10:19rooms containing hordes upon hordes of enemies,
10:23trap doors,
10:24tanky enemies,
10:25environmental hazards,
10:26frenetic combat,
10:27so much crap being thrown at you
10:29that you will have to make save scumming your best friend.
10:32This should go without saying, but when it comes to Blood,
10:35there will definitely be a lot of it.
10:39And most of it is going to be coming from you.
10:50But tell us, what's the hardest boomer shooter you've played?
10:53Doom 2 is definitely my pick.
10:55Let me tell you, the second you get softlocked out of a level,
10:58that game gets insanely aggravating.
11:01But did your pick make our list?
