00:15Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we are taking a look at 20 awesome 7 out of 10 video games.
00:22Now, for some context here, these aren't necessarily games that specifically scored
00:26a 7 out of 10 in the reviews. It's more of a saying, if you will, for above average games
00:32that have so much going for them, so many high notes and are just a lot of fun, but certainly
00:37have their flaws. However, these types of games are often more fun overall than the 9 out of 10
00:43or even 10 out of 10 games out there. Also, this is of course a highly subjective list.
00:48We easily could have featured loads more titles here that fit into this very criteria,
00:53but 20 seemed good to us. Alright, with all of that shenanigans out of the way, let's dive in.
01:06Before we begin, we publish new content all week long,
01:09so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
01:131. Atlas Fallen
01:17Atlas Fallen delivers a flawed but deeply enjoyable fantasy action RPG that shines brightest when you
01:30are in motion. The game's crowning achievement is its exhilarating momentum, allowing you to fluidly
01:35surf across vast beautiful locales and engage in high-flying spectacle-filled combat and parkour,
01:41with shape-shifting sand weapons. Tracking down massive monsters and systematically shattering
01:47their body parts is immensely satisfying, backed by a clever momentum mechanic that rewards aggressive
01:52play with higher damage at the cost of taking more damage. However, the game is weighed down by a
01:58thoroughly generic fantasy narrative, some stiff voice acting, and repetitive quest structures that
02:03make the world feel somewhat empty between the major encounters. It won't revolutionize the genre,
02:09but for players seeking a flashy, fluid, and fast-paced action game with exceptional traversal mechanics,
02:15its high notes more than justify the ride.
02:182. Sleeping Dogs
02:34Sleeping Dogs stands as an unforgettable cult classic that nails its gritty Hong Kong cinema atmosphere,
02:40even if its open-world sandbox feels noticeably dated. Rather than aping standard crime epics,
02:46this game elevated the formula through an emotionally charged undercover cop narrative led by Wei Shen,
02:51backed by a wonderfully visceral hand-to-hand martial arts combat system that turns ambient telephone
02:57booths, air conditioners, and neon signs, and more, into brutal execution devices. Searing street food,
03:04bustling night neon markets, and authentic triad melodrama breathes tremendous flavor into every corner
03:10of the map. The cracks show, however, whenever the game steps away from brawling. Vehicle handling often
03:15just feels floaty and imprecise, the gunplay lacks punch, and the side activities, like repetitive
03:21police, drug busts, and mundane surveillance minigames, drift quickly into formulaic filler.
03:26Even so, its thrilling kung fu brawls and gripping underworld drama ensure that its flaws never
03:32overshadowed the raw excitement of its best moments. Dark Watch
03:51It's an FPS set in the weird west. I mean, you get vampires, supernatural shenanigans, wild west imagery,
03:58gothic horror, and loads of explosive action. It's absolutely great, if a bit by the numbers,
04:04in terms of its actual FPS gameplay. Stepping into the spurs of the newly turned vampire outlaw Jericho
04:10Cross gives the game room to unleash macabre creativity, arming you with blade-tipped revolvers,
04:17crossbow rocket launchers, and supernatural powers like blood shields and vampire vision,
04:22across eerie frontier ghost towns and haunted trains. The visceral shooting mechanics feel crunchy,
04:27fast and remarkably satisfying, complemented by a simple yet engaging morality mechanic,
04:33granting distinct dark or light powers depending on how Jericho takes to them. Now, what drags the
04:38adventure down from the top tier, though, is its razor-thin 4-6 hour campaign, and severe asset
04:44and enemy repetition in the second half of the game. Yet, for an afternoon spent galloping on an undead
04:50horse and blasting zombies with silver bullets, its sheer pulpy bravado makes the ride well worth dusting off
04:56an old console. Alone in the dark.
05:15I constantly champion this southern gothic horror tale for its sublime atmosphere, its sharp character
05:20writing, clever and varied playgrounds of exploration, albeit quite linear, and general sense of dread
05:26and tension. But, if I'm honest, it's often led down by less-than-stellar combat, some uneven puzzles,
05:32and an ending that doesn't really feel all that satisfying, even if it is off-the-wall bonkers.
05:37You can play through two campaigns, as either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood, both strong characters,
05:43with certain sections and intervals being swapped out and mixed about depending on who you are playing as.
05:48Now, this leads to some great replayability and better overall context for the story at large.
05:53This game simply nails the vibes through and through, even when the action can get repetitive
05:58and stale. Despite its overall stiffness and super-duper short runtime in one campaign,
06:03Alone in the Dark thrusts you into an engaging Lovecraftian jazz-soaked southern gothic tale that
06:08keeps you on the edge of your seat. Get more awesome gaming content over at our 24-7 gaming
06:23live stream here on MojoPlays. Just scan that QR code on screen. The Saboteur.
06:34The Saboteur remains a stellar example of an ambitious open-world concept that overcomes its
06:39unpolished edges through sheer stylistic brilliance. Pandemic Studios delivered a master stroke with
06:45their artistic direction. Namely, Nazi-occupied Paris begins as a stark black and white noir landscape,
06:52where color literally bleeds back into the streets as Irish mechanic turned freedom fighter Sean
06:57Devlin inspires the local resistance. Climbing historical landmarks to plant dynamite, sneaking
07:03into heavily fortified bases, and engaging in chaotic street-level gunfights offers a playground of
07:09satisfying explosive catharsis. However, the technical structural scenes are hard to ignore here.
07:15The climbing mechanics frequently feel sticky and frustratingly clunky,
07:18the stealth systems can be maddeningly inconsistent, and the driving physics suffer from a floaty,
07:23detached sensation. While it lacks the mechanical refinement of its contemporaries, the striking
07:28visual metaphor of fighting back oppression makes this historical revenge fantasy an unforgettable ride
07:34that's a heck of a lot of fun to play.
07:44Flintlock the Siege of Dawn
07:53Gosh, this one is strange because it's a truly enjoyable character-driven adventure with meaty,
07:59engaging, flashy combat. The world is unique and keeps you exploring, even if your exploration isn't always
08:05rewarded properly. Plus, it's got a narrative that doesn't outstay its welcome, which is nice.
08:10It's honestly really good, but there is this strange overall feeling that the game isn't quite
08:15finished and is missing stuff like you've seen all it has to offer about halfway through,
08:20at least when it comes to things like weapons, tools, items, and all that.
08:24Now, the game shines when you weaponize the unexpected synergy between melee weapons, powder firearms,
08:29and magic. Playing as the vengeful sapper Nor Vanek alongside a mystical, fox-like deity named Enki,
08:36players can fluidly parry blade strikes with gunshot blasts, pull off flashy airborne execution chains,
08:42and even use magical rifts to leap vertically across levels with exhilarating momentum. They're really cool.
08:47A clever high-stakes combat multiplier rewards you with extra experience for chaining together
08:52completely different attack types, adding a great layer of stylistic tension.
09:07Kaya Dark Lineage
09:18Kaya Dark Lineage is an imaginative PS2 sleeper hit that channels the golden era of 3D action
09:24platformers while carving out its own distinct, vibrant identity. Developed by Eden Games,
09:29the adventure captures lightning in a bottle by blending fluid traversal mechanics, tactical, if wonky,
09:35stealth, and a surprisingly robust combo-driven brawling-centric combat system used to cleanse
09:40and liberate oppressed creatures. These lofty multi-genre ambitions are awesome to be sure,
09:46but are frequently undercut by a frustratingly uncooperative camera that routinely sabotages
09:51tricky platforming leaps of which there are many. The game also suffers from padding-heavy economy
09:56loops for mandatory upgrades, and a sudden unresolved cliffhanger ending. Even with these rough edges
10:02though, its gameplay variety and lush worlds ensure that anyone unearthing this classic will find a
10:07highly memorable journey. Burnout Revenge
10:25Where Burnout 3 Takedown is considered the absolute high note of the storied arcade racing series,
10:31and Burnout Paradise being the series' stellar open world swan song, Revenge sits in this strange
10:36middle ground. It's a remarkable, polished arcade racer with all of the thrilling takedowns, crashing,
10:42and speed you'd expect from this franchise. It's got great music, great tracks, great crash scenarios to
10:47engage with, and an unparalleled sense of speed and ferocity moment to moment. Plus, it's got a super
10:52lengthy career mode that will keep you entertained for dozens of hours. So what lets it down then?
10:57Honestly, kinda cause it's just more of the same that we saw in takedown. Obviously that's not a bad
11:03thing by any stretch of the imagination, but it mostly iterated instead of reinvigorated. It went
11:08full pedal to the metal on event to event mayhem instead of finding a brand new path forward,
11:13but it does so with aplomb and style. Many arcade racing fans seem to miss this frantically fun
11:19experience, instead just opting for takedown or paradise. Revenge feels sublime to play and won't let
11:25you down, always tasking you with just one more race or crash event.
11:37Robocop Rogue City
11:38Rogue City functions as an absolute love letter to 80s sci-fi cinema, channeling a hyper-specific power
11:52fantasy that perfectly offsets its mid-budget clunkiness. The game thrives by leaning into
11:57Alex Murphy's identity. You stomp through Detroit absorbing a comical amount of gunfire while
12:02obliterating gangs with a satisfyingly gory Auto 9 pistol, amongst other powerful weaponry of course.
12:09Authentic touches like slow-paced detective work, mundane police duties, and Peter Weller's original voice
12:14work make the world feel incredibly faithful to the source material. Conversely, this dedication to
12:20immersion comes at a cost, as the intentionally slow, tank-like movement can make exploration feel
12:26agonizingly sluggish over time. The experience is further weighed down by stiff character animations,
12:32frequent visual bugs, and a bloated combat-heavy final act. Yet, for fans of Old Detroit,
12:37its glorious B-movie charm and visceral combat makes it a deeply gratifying shootout.
12:52Visions of Mana
12:53Is that a deer? Look at it jump!
12:56I love Karina's curiosity. It makes the journey interesting for everyone.
13:01I swear, I never hear anybody talk about Visions of Mana, whether in the gaming scene at large,
13:06or even the more niche RPG crowd. It's weird because it's a truly stellar, vibrant, and absorbing
13:12open-zone action RPG with oodles upon oodles of charm and panache. Yes, the combat and character
13:18leveling slash upgrading can get super grindy and is often unrewarding later in the game,
13:23the rest of the components that make up this meaty fantasy romp more than make up for it. The cast
13:28of
13:28characters never fails to capture your attention and imagination, especially as they make their way
13:33through myriad drop-dead gorgeous locations. For a game that can easily take you around 40 to 50
13:39hours to wrap up, none of it really feels like padding or fluff. That is, unless you want to of
13:44course grind out levels and find random MacGuffins to bolster your journey. It's not always rewarding.
13:49I guess its biggest letdown is that it's quite derivative and repetitive overall. But please don't
13:54let that stop you from experiencing this whimsical and emotional adventure for the ages.
14:10Curse of Darkness
14:20Apart from Symphony of the Night, Curse of Darkness is my absolute favorite Castlevania game out there.
14:25Curse of Darkness breaks away from traditional Belmont lore to deliver a deeply satisfying,
14:31mechanics-driven gothic adventure that ultimately stumbles in its lackluster environmental design.
14:36Stepping out of the shadow of its legendary predecessors, Konami cleverly shifts the spotlight
14:41to Hector, a devil forgemaster whose ability to breed, evolve, and command diverse, innocent devils
14:47introduces an enticing layer of strategy to the action. Combining this companion system with a
14:52robust weapon crafting matrix and some crunchy fluid hack and slash combat, even if a bit repetitive,
14:58makes battling through Dracula's legions consistently enjoyable.
15:02Now, the game's structural flaws are hard to overlook. Players must navigate an endless maze of flat,
15:08barren, and visually repetitive corridors that lack the atmospheric genius the franchise is often
15:13famous for. Great set dressing, yes, but Hector seems to just sprint around through samey looking locations.
15:19Even with these aesthetic pitfalls, the brilliant depth of its companion mechanics ensures that
15:24action RPG enthusiasts will find a hidden treasure worth conquering. Oh, and the music is of course second to none.
15:39Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair
15:48This one is a delightfully creative 2.5D platformer that just misses greatness due to a
15:53frustratingly uneven endgame challenge. You know, the eponymous Impossible Lair. Playtonic Games shines
15:59by pairing tight, gorgeous side-scrolling stages with a puzzle-packed isometric overworld where you can
16:05physically alter levels, like freezing or flooding them, to completely transform the gameplay.
16:10Collecting the Betalion to build a living shield for the Impossible Lair creates an incredibly unique
16:16flexible progression loop that should be commended. Unfortunately, though, the game's central hook
16:21is also its biggest detriment. The titular Final Dungeon is an utterly grueling checkpoint-free gauntlet
16:26that demands absolute perfection. This brutal finale introduces a jarring difficulty spike that
16:32alienates casual players and clashes with the breezy whimsical tone of the rest of the journey.
16:37Even so, its exceptional level design and fresh ideas make it highly rewarding for genre fans.
16:50Darksiders Genesis
16:58While Darksiders 2 is my personal favorite Darksiders game out there, having played through
17:03every single one of them with my wife , I can absolutely still recommend Genesis
17:08as a nice side dish to the main games. Now, Darksiders Genesis translates its spooky and macabre
17:14apocalyptic universe into a punchy isometric spin-off, thriving on the dynamic combat contrast
17:20between Strife's twin-stick shooting and War's heavy hack-and-slash brawling. Obviously,
17:25this is more fun in co-op. Tackling its puzzle-dense dungeons and upgrade hunts,
17:29again, especially in co-op, delivers immediate enticing fun. However, the fixed camera frequently
17:34sabotages tricky platforming intervals. A frustratingly vague map makes navigation a chore at times,
17:40especially when you want to try and collect every goodie, and a lightweight static comic panel story
17:45kinda keeps it from reaching its full potential. But despite these rough edges,
17:49the core combat chemistry and mostly engaging narrative beats makes this detour of the series
17:54well worth playing, especially if you're already a fan of the series at large.
17:57I hope that was cheap!
18:07Alice Madness Returns
18:16Alice Madness Returns leans heavily into its macabre psychological artistry to deliver a gothic action
18:23platformer that captivates your eyes even as its gameplay loop settles into predictable patterns.
18:29Spicy Horse, the developer, constructs a spell-bindingly morbid wonderland,
18:33letting you glide through stunning, twisted landscapes while slicing through corrupt entities
18:37with a vorpal blade, or even blasting them with a pepper grinder. The fluid multi-jump traversal and
18:43psychological storytelling surrounding Alice's trauma offer a genuinely haunting, memorable atmosphere.
18:49It's just really good, I've played through it multiple times. However, the title struggles
18:53significantly with mechanical monotony. The combat encounters and environmental puzzles feel virtually
18:58unchanged from the opening hours to the final credits. This repetition is exacerbated by overly
19:04bloated lengthy chapters that wears out their welcome at times, alongside a lock-on camera system
19:10that frequently loses track of enemies during the hectic brawls. It lacks mechanical evolution, but for
19:15players out there seeking unparalleled dark aesthetic design, plus a gripping psychological narrative,
19:21it remains a beautifully warped journey.
19:32Blur.
19:39Blur is essentially cart racing injected with high-octane nitrous and wrapped in licensed sheet
19:45metal, pitting real-world supercars against each other in neon-drenched projectile-flinging street brawls.
19:51Blur hits upon pure arcade magic with its frenzied multiplayer, where drifting around a bend while
19:57launching homing bolts or dropping shock fields delivers instant white-knuckle adrenaline that just
20:02feels so sublime each and every time. The brakes screech, however, once you step into the sterile,
20:08grind-heavy single-player campaign, which turns the electrifying premise into, I don't know,
20:13more of a checklist of just dry challenges against rubber-banding AI. Its identity crisis between
20:18realistic motorsport aesthetics and cartoony power-ups kept it from mass-market stardom,
20:24but when the chaos peaks with a full grid, this vehicular slugfest is an absolute blast that
20:29tantalizes your senses.
20:39Banishers Ghosts of New Eden
20:50Banishers offers a wonderfully somber, narrative-heavy investigation, action-adventure experience
20:55that cements its 7 out of 10 legacy by contrasting masterclass storytelling with repetitive action
21:01loops. Developed by storytelling juggernauts Don't Nod, the game excels through its gripping 17th century
21:07supernatural setting, where you unravel deeply moral, emotionally devastating haunting cases as Ghost
21:13Hunter's Red and the spirit of his deceased lover Antea. Forcing players to choose between sacrificing living
21:20colonists or peacefully ascending Antea's soul creates an incredibly high stakes, gray ethical dilemma
21:26that drives the plot forward beautifully here. It can be so hard to know what the quote unquote
21:31right thing to do is during these haunting cases, since both sides often tug at you, morally speaking.
21:37While I personally enjoyed the combat quite a bit in this game, I can fully see and understand how this
21:42combat for many players feels largely formulaic and floaty, dragged down heavily by atrocious enemy
21:48variety. Also, the exploration, while mostly fun, can sometimes just artificially feels like it pads
21:53out the map. Yet, even as the tedious mechanical jank and backtracking stretch the runtime a bit too
21:59thin, the sheer emotional weight of its narrative choices ensures a hauntingly memorable journey for
22:05story-driven fans out there.
22:06I can give no order, but you return from the hunt and countermand it.
22:12Lol, the halfpenny redeemer come to save us. Thou may enter, O great savior.
22:20Sunset Overdrive
22:21So, I guess we give up that, right?
22:24Relax, Sam. We'll figure something out.
22:31So, what do you get if you smash together Tony Hawk's pro skaters grinding, albeit with soap shoes,
22:37anyone remember those? Ratchet and Clank's wacky weaponry, Marvel's, Spider-Man's fluid traversal,
22:42and um, uh, I don't know, some caffeinated skittles? You get Sunset Overdrive, obviously,
22:49I buried the lead. Yeah, I know, that was a dumb analogy that fell apart at the seams, but I
22:53don't know,
22:53whatever. This gem offers a colorful hyperkinetic explosion of pure fun and mayhem that is often
22:59held back by its repetitive mission structure and dated humor. Its greatest triumph is definitely
23:05its incredible energy-infused traversal system, which forces players to constantly grind on rails,
23:10bounce off cars, and wall run while unleashing an arsenal of absurdly creative weapons against
23:15hordes of mutant soda drinkers. When you are in the zone, flowing seamlessly through the vibrant
23:20cityscape, the gameplay loop delivers a masterclass in chaotic kinetic joy. However, this brilliant
23:25momentum frequently grinds to a halt during tedious tower defense sequences and some generic fetch quests
23:31that fail to match the creativity of the movement mechanics. But the game lets you collect toilet
23:36paper, so that's cool, right? Evil West
23:58Now, I'm going to be fully transparent with you here. The very first time I played Evil West,
24:03I actually stopped playing about an hour or so into the experience, despite absolutely adoring the
24:08whole creepy and macabre Weird West setting, one loaded with vampires, supernatural monsters,
24:13and Wild West electricity-infused gunslinging. Now, I can't pinpoint why I stopped, or at least
24:19can't remember. It just didn't click, I don't think. But when I went back to it a couple of years
24:23later,
24:24it fully immersed me and captivated me. Evil West is all about bombast and action,
24:28thrusting you through a linear narrative that often feels more cheesy than engaging.
24:33But the fulcrum of vampires as the evil baddies, and you as Jesse Rentier,
24:38as the one to combat them with brutal over-the-top carnage ensures the game's fangs stay deep within
24:43you. Evil West just feels and plays like one of those 2000s era games that we often don't see
24:49anymore. Really, I mean, obviously for this list, the epitome of the 7 out of 10 experience.
25:05New Super Lucky's Tale.
25:16Platforming games thrive off of traversal and momentum, with the best ones out there putting
25:20you into a sort of flow state, if you will. That point is so darn evident when you play New
25:25Super
25:25Lucky's Tale. Burrowing underground to then jump and double jump around collecting coins and letters,
25:31all while smacking baddies around just feels so, so good here. And the level design ensures that
25:36flow state is strongly felt as you navigate around as Lucky. Plus, I mean, it's just such a cozy,
25:42charming, and wholesome 3D platformer that never fails to put a smile on your face from start to end.
25:47For me, it's a near perfect 3D platformer. It just feels and plays so well, and I love it.
25:52But if I take a step back or two apart from that flow state and creative level designs,
25:57it is a mostly derivative experience that we've seen dozens of times in this beloved genre.
26:13Vampire, or Vampyr, I still never know how to say it.
26:23Vampire masterfully constructs a dark atmospheric morality play that secures its status as an
26:28unforgettable cult favorite despite its rough-around-the-edges mechanics.
26:32Set against the bleak backdrop of 1918 London during the Spanish flu epidemic, the game casts
26:38you as Dr. Jonathan Reed, a newly turned vampire torn between his Hippocratic oath as a blood
26:44transfusion specialist to heal the citizenry and his insatiable thirst for blood as a vampire.
26:50The game's brilliant high-stakes hook links progression directly to the narrative. Feeding on a
26:55fully fleshed out NPC yields massive experience to upgrade your vampiric abilities, but doing so
27:01actively destabilizes the district, causing sickness to spread and the neighborhood to slide
27:06into chaos, and even locking you out of certain story intervals. This stellar societal simulation
27:12frequently collides with clunky stamina-based melee combat that often lacks real kinetic punch.
27:17This mechanical friction is compounded by tedious backtracking through spawning street thugs,
27:22alongside lengthy loading screens that disrupt the pacing of your investigation.
27:27Ultimately, it sacrifices mechanical polish for superb thematic and narrative ambition,
27:32and for players seeking a rich consequence-driven narrative, its grim worldbuilding delivers an
27:36intoxicating bite.
27:38I have noticed how you suppress your appetite when around the staff and patients.
27:43You need to know you can trust me, Edgar.
27:45I do, dear fellow, I do.
27:47Please then.
27:48So, what did you think of our 7 out of 10 picks for this list?
