This new sulfur chemical reaction opens up a world of possibilities.
Transcript
00:00One of the chemical bonds that's very important in all sorts of commercial applications, especially
00:05plastics, involves sulfur.
00:07It's pretty hard to get two sulfur atoms to hang together into a bigger molecule.
00:13One of the ways you can do this is to heat it to a relatively high temperature, sometimes
00:17up to about 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
00:19Now, however, researchers have figured out a much more efficient way to create sulfur-sulfur
00:24bonds.
00:25It's called trisulfide metathesis, and these new molecules can be easily assembled and
00:32also easily broken apart.
00:34So it makes manufacturing easier, but it also makes recycling easier.
00:39This is an incredible breakthrough and should make recycling a lot more efficient for some
00:43very toxic products.
