00:00Alright. Barry. Where's Barry? He's... No. What was that? Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're
00:13looking at the 10 best levels in Resident Evil. Now technically Resident Evil doesn't function
00:18as a levels kind of game but it does have sections, moments and areas that define the
00:23beats of the game. Let's look at those and give them some love. Before we continue we publish
00:27content all week long so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified of our latest
00:33videos. Quick pause before we jump into the list. I finished most of this video before Requiem had
00:39come out so it would feel wrong to not include a level from that. So coming in at number 11,
00:45return to RCPD.
00:53This game was full of fantastic moments and areas and truly the only reason I'm picking this over
00:59anything else in that game is the unbeatable nostalgia factor. Just entering the police
01:04station is cool enough. Exploring the ruins of your old stomping grounds, reminding yourself of Leon's
01:09first day. But this section also includes the orphanage flashback, easily the scariest section
01:14of the game, complete with red-eyed monster kids and this perfect jump scare from yours truly.
01:19Oh my god. But also you have a showdown with an old friend and boy howdy if he ain't just
01:25as cool
01:26all these years later as he was lifting that helicopter in the RE-2 remake.
01:46The Guest House, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard.
01:56Tucked away in the back of the Baker property, by far the worst back of you could ever imagine,
02:01is the Guest House. This section of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard stands out as one of the most
02:05nerve-wracking areas to explore, especially since it's the first thing you do. This opening segment
02:11works as a masterclass in atmosphere, immediately establishing the dread that will define Ethan's
02:16ordeal, and letting players know that the series is officially saved. The building's rotting interior,
02:21littered with spoiled meals and swarming insects, creates a sense of decay that feels so real.
02:27However, the moment that truly locks in the game's oppressive tone is when Ethan watches the VHS
02:32recording revealing the fate of a doomed film crew who previously entered the estate. That sequence
02:37doesn't just provide story context, it shifts the horror into overdrive and signals exactly what kind
02:42of nightmare the series is now going for.
02:44What do you see? What is it?
02:49Raccoon City Police Department Resident Evil 2
03:01In the Resident Evil 2 remake, what should logically be the safest building in a collapsing city,
03:06instead becomes one of the most threatening places you could possibly step into. And it's awesome.
03:11This is probably one of our largest levels on this list, especially considering it's the majority of
03:15the game, but from the puzzles to the threats, it's a whirlwind. Whether you're playing as Leon or Claire,
03:21the Raccoon City Police Department quickly proves that civilization has completely failed. Tight corridors
03:27amplify the tension as zombies stagger through the darkness and liquors lurk overhead waiting to strike
03:33down. And then there's Mr. X, good lord. With enemies surrounding you, limited escape routes,
03:38and constant pursuit, the RPD transforms into a pressure cooker of fear that amplifies what the
03:43original 1998 already did.
03:47Jesus.
03:53Marshalands, Resident Evil 5
03:55To cover up the manufacturing of biological weapons for terrorists.
04:01They were using Africa as a testbed for their experiments.
04:07Bio-weapons were responsible for the deaths of my parents.
04:10Unlike most standout moments that happened early, the highlight of Resident Evil 5 actually shows up
04:15closer to the midpoint during the Marshland chapter. Almost like a little reminder that,
04:20hey, this game's still fun, I promise. Look, look, a good bit. This segment shifts the formula by placing
04:25Chris and Sheva in a swamp region navigating by boat, giving the player a hub-like space rather than a
04:31straight path. Instead of constant forward momentum, you're free to travel between scattered locations,
04:36tackle goals in different orders, and take in the environment at your own pace. That openness provides
04:42a refreshing break from the game's otherwise linear structure, and injects a sense of adventure
04:47the campaign rarely allows. It taught Capcom that open sections are actually pretty damn good.
05:03The Queen Zenobia, Resident Evil Revelations
05:08Incredible.
05:11The Queen Zenobia.
05:15This thing is lucky to be a float.
05:17Resident Evil 7 gets all the credit, but some fans argue that it was actually Resident Evil Revelations
05:23that marked course correction for the series, steering it away from the explosive action-heavy
05:28style of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, and back towards slower, tension-driven survival horror.
05:33The story follows beloved icon Jill Valentine and Parker Luciani as they investigate the Queen Zenobia,
05:39a drifting cruise liner that served as the last reported location of fellow agents Chris Redfield
05:44and Jessica Sherowat. And it's this ship itself that is the perfect horror setting.
05:49Isolated at sea with absolutely no hope of escape, cut off from the outside world,
05:53you couldn't ask for a spookier setting. Its narrow passageways, dim lighting and decaying interior
05:58design create an oppressive mood that constantly reminds players how trapped they actually are.
06:03That sense of confinement only intensifies once it becomes clear the vessel isn't deserted at all.
06:08Color me shocked.
06:14ANTARCTIC BASE RESIDENT EVIL CODE VERONICA
06:17Oh, uh, plane's trashed. Let's split up and find another way off this oversized freezer.
06:24Right.
06:25Resident Evil CODE VERONICA hits its strongest stride during the Antarctic BASE segment because
06:30it distills survival horror down to its most effective ingredients. Tight hallways that restrict
06:35movement, stark lighting that heightens tension, scarce ammunition that forces planning, and enemies that
06:40quickly punish careless mistakes. The environment is hostile as a mother f***er, making the player
06:45feel cut off from safety, almost as if the game itself is deliberately pushing you into the cold.
06:50That oppressive atmosphere reinforces the sense of vulnerability that defines classic entries in
06:55the series. On top of the gameplay intensity, this section is also where the narrative fully embraces
06:59its strangest twists, escalating the story's bizarre elements in a way that makes you smile,
07:04like the classics often do.
07:11EDONIA RESIDENT EVIL 6
07:30It's fair to say Resident Evil 6 doesn't earn much admiration overall. Many players feel like Capcom
07:36misread what made Resident Evil 4 successful, resulting first in the mixed reception of Resident Evil 5,
07:42and then a sixth installment that pushed the series even further into chaotic excess. It's honestly
07:47surprising that they could be so out of touch with their community to read their success so wrong.
07:52Still, one segment manages to rise above the criticism, Jake and Sherry's opening trek through
07:58EDONIA. Their introduction stands out because it captures a tone the rest of the game rarely gets. The
08:03setting feels tense without being overwhelming, and the early encounters struck a better balance between
08:08action and atmosphere than most later chapters. What really sets it apart though is the chemistry
08:13between the two leads, which gives their scenario a distinct personality that you don't really see
08:18anywhere else in the game.
08:25HOUSE BENEVIENTO RESIDENT EVIL VILLAGE
08:32Resident Evil Village serves as both a sequel to Resident Evil 7 and the final chapter of Ethan
08:37Winter's story. In the earlier game, he journeyed to Louisiana to rescue his wife. While here,
08:43he ventures into an isolated European village after his infant daughter is taken by mother Miranda,
08:47who plans to use her on a ritual to resurrect her own child. Yeah, it gets a bit out there,
08:51but it totally works. To piece Rosemary back together, Ethan must confront each of the four
08:55lords in their domains, but none leave a stronger impression than Donna Beneviento and her house of
09:01horrors. House Beneviento is easily the most unsettling area in the game. Donna herself isn't
09:07physically imposing, yet her power lies in psychological torment, subjecting Ethan to disturbing
09:12hallucinations. The mansion is already unnerving, filled wall to wall with lifeless dolls,
09:17but when you have the ability to make your enemy hallucinate those dolls into moving, well,
09:21you're kind of boned then. The horror peaks when a grotesque infant creature crawls out of the
09:26darkness, taking the game from Resident Evil 5 to Resident Evil 7 real quick. Raccoon City Streets
09:36Resident Evil 3 Rather than a single building or contained zone, the ruined cityscape itself
09:45is what makes the urban sections of Resident Evil 3 so memorable. Even in the original PlayStation
09:50release, players praised how effectively the game captured the chaos of a metropolis collapsing under
09:56viral outbreak. Although some fans criticized the remake of Resident Evil 3 for feeling shorter than
10:01Resident Evil 2, most agreed that its version of Raccoon City was vividly realized. I for one loved the
10:06third entry, and loved the streets as much as they did in 1999. The horror here isn't built on constant
10:11jumpscares, but on an unshakable sense of dread that lingers as you move through the environment.
10:16Streets slick with blood, wreckage scattered everywhere, distant screams and oh no, Nemesis.
10:28Village Day Resident Evil 4
10:35By the time the series reached Resident Evil 4, many players feared the formula was starting to lose
10:41steam, but that installment completely revitalized things. It managed to feel recognizable to long-time
10:47fans while simultaneously reinventing how the series played and flowed. But nothing highlights what
10:53makes RE4 great more than the opening village section. Dropped into hostile territory, Leon quickly
11:00realizes he steps straight back into a nightmare, surrounded by villagers who move and behave in
11:05deeply unsettling ways. The encounter wastes no time establishing danger, forcing players to survive a
11:10chaotic onslaught with limited resources, no real tutorial or practice, and nowhere safe to hide.
11:16It's an introduction that immediately raises tension and signals that this isn't the same kind of
11:21threat he faced before. Instead of shambling corpses, the horrors now come with writhing parasitic surprises,
11:27proving that Resident Evil 4 was going to be a whole new beast.
11:31Where's everyone going? Bingo?
11:40Spencer Mansion Resident Evil
11:42Is everyone alright? Barry. Where's Barry?
11:50He's…
11:51No.
11:54What was that?
11:55Resident Evil, specifically the remake,
11:57stands as the definitive version of the series' original adventure, delivering the most immersive
12:02way to experience Jill and Chris' nightmare inside the Spencer Mansion. The updated visuals
12:08heighten every shadow and texture, yet the game wisely preserves the classic fixed-camera angles,
12:14letting unseen threats lurk just beyond the frame. After escaping a brutal assault by mutated dogs,
12:19the STARS members rush indoors, expecting refuge, only to realize they've stepped into something
12:24far worse. And that far worse is exactly what made the series what it is, and earned the number one
12:30spot, the Spencer Mansion. The mansion itself is lavish, filled with sweeping halls, ornate furnishing,
12:37and extravagant detail covering nearly every inch. Despite its beauty, an unsettling tension clings to
12:43the air as if the building itself is watching you. And watch you, it does. The majority of the game
12:48takes place right here, and it's perfect. Goddamn perfect!
