00:08welcome to mojo plays and today we're looking at everybody's most hated each entry of final
00:13fantasy is guaranteed to have one boss that feels so hard it's not fun so easy it's disappointing
00:20or so anticipated it ends up being underwhelming it's hard to define worst but we're going to try
00:25it for every game before we continue we publish content all week long so be sure to subscribe
00:31and ring the bell to get notified of our latest videos lich number two final fantasy
00:43late in the adventure of final fantasy the game throws one of its most brutal curveballs
00:47at the player by bringing back the fiend lich for a second round the original encounter earlier in
00:53journey already tests a party's preparation but it's generally fair if you've been leveling and
00:58stocking the right spells or asking your brother for help the rematch however feels like the
01:03developers decided subtlety was overrated and simply cracked every dial to maximum lich returns vastly
01:08stronger packing high tier magic that dwarves what he used before along with significantly increased
01:13durability and fewer exploitable weaknesses what truly makes the battle agonizing is his unbelievably
01:19brutal spell rotation flare stop warp doom these can all rapidly spiral into a little thing i like to
01:27call dying and throwing your nes into the wall by modern standards lich number two should be an
01:31optional boss not a required win
01:41lamia queen final fantasy 2
01:49one of the most aggravating encounters in final fantasy 2 arrives with the lamia queen a boss who
01:55isn't especially threatening in terms of raw strength but instead through brutal and unrelenting status effects
02:01ah status effects the bane of every final fantasy fan's existence on top of your status effects
02:07lamia queen frequently casts blink on herself reducing the chance that physical attacks will land at all
02:13if your party build focuses primarily on melee damage this immediately becomes a major problem
02:18things get worse when she begins unleashing attacks that inflict sleep on the entire group and if that
02:23wasn't enough she'll also throw in confuse causing your own teammates to start attacking each other
02:28like they suddenly forgot whose side they're on it's a boss fight that is a challenge but it's also just
02:32no fun it feels unbalanced in a way that makes you frustrated with the game not the boss
02:38lamia queen more like lamiest queen i hate myself
02:48kraken final fantasy 3
02:57among the elemental guardians in final fantasy 3 kraken is frequently remembered as the odd one out and
03:03not in a good way by the time the player reached this water themed boss expectations are pretty high
03:08here we go an epic water boss i've got my fire ready i've got my potions in stock i'm ready
03:14oh he's dead
03:14instead of delivering a tense strategic encounter the battle often feels strangely toothless a big
03:20reason for this disappointment is how little pressure kraken actually puts on the party his
03:24attacks can deal respectable damage but they lack the devastating punch or tricky mechanics that make
03:30other bosses memorable there are no especially punishing gimmicks no complex status effects loops
03:36nothing that really disrupts the rhythm of combat if your party has been progressing normally
03:40and keeping equipment updated the fight is easy as pie probably easier pie's actually quite hard
03:46have you guys tried to make pie
03:53demon wall final fantasy 4
04:03few boss encounters in final fantasy 4 generate as much irritation as the infamous demon wall the
04:08creature itself doesn't rely on overwhelming damage instead it peppers the party with fairly modest
04:13attacks while steadily sliding closer and closer across the battlefield the real threat is the
04:19looming consequence of letting it advance too far if the wall reaches your party's position
04:23i could guess what happens instant death wiping everyone out in a second because of this mechanic
04:29the fight turns into a tense race against time rather than a strategic battle what makes the encounter
04:35especially draining is the boss's enormous health pool players are forced to abandon careful pacing
04:40and instead unleash non-stop damage in the hope of destroying it before the inevitable happens
04:44endurance can be fun but this is just repetition and pressure it feels super under thought
04:54famed mimic gogo final fantasy 5
05:05one of the most puzzling optional encounters in final fantasy 5 involves the mysterious mimic gogo hidden
05:11deep within the submerged ruins surrounding the water crystal the entire sequence takes place underwater
05:17meaning players must deal with a strict time limit while navigating the dungeon
05:20that ticking clock already puts players on edge before the boss fight even begins
05:24when the battle starts gogo immediately appears overwhelming attempt to strike him
05:29and he retaliates with devastating counter-attacks that can wipe out characters instantly
05:34try to play defensively and he may simply heal himself undoing any progress you've made
05:38the trick is that gogo perfectly imitates whatever action the party performs
05:43the bizarre solution is to take no action at all by doing absolutely nothing gogo copies that inactivity
05:50and the encounter eventually resolves itself the developers might have felt real clever
05:54but we all kind of just felt a bit tired
06:04phantom train of final fantasy 6
06:12few encounters in final fantasy 6 are as memorable in concept as the phantom train
06:17the sequence is unusual because the enemy functions as both the dungeon and the boss
06:22waiting at the end the premise is wonderfully bizarre even by the already imaginative standards
06:27of the series the actual boss fight however is pretty trivial the phantom train may look intimidating
06:32as it looms over the battlefield but it possesses a glaring weakness that can completely trivialize
06:38the encounter because it counts as an undead enemy it can be instantly defeated with a single phoenix
06:44down jesus christ why did square enix decide to keep this feature in the series if the idea is to
06:51reward fans of the series who know the law and punish new players may i make a suggestion how's about
06:57flip it around so fans have a decent fight and new players can get a leg up idiots i love
07:04you guys
07:11guard scorpion final fantasy 7
07:21the guard scorpion encounter in final fantasy 7 serves as the first major boss during the opening
07:26mako reactor mission from a visual and thematic standpoint the fight actually does a lot of
07:31things right the towering mechanical scorpion immediately establishes the scale of enemies
07:36players will face and it helps reinforce the industrial atmosphere of midgar and the technological
07:40dominance of shinra well done developers now let's take a look at the actual combat oh my god
07:46because the fight occurs right at the beginning of final fantasy 7 players have barely learned any
07:51abilities or strategic options the result is a fairly slow exchange of basic attacks
07:56while the boss gradually loses health what truly caused problems for many players was a notorious
08:02translation mistake in the english release the game's dialogue incorrectly instructed players to
08:07attack when the guard scorpion raised its tail which as we know caused a devastating counter-attack
08:13what the hell
08:29the guerriguerja final fantasy 8
08:44got nowhere to go. After an intense infiltration sequence involving sprinting across the roofs of
08:50a moving train, dodging patrols and swapping out carriages during the timber resistance operation,
08:54Squall and his team finally confront President Delling in hopes of stopping Galbadia's growing
08:59aggression. The dramatic moment quickly turns bizarre when the President reveals himself to be
09:04a grotesque monster known as, oh god, Garogara? In theory, the battle could play out as a tough
09:11fight involving dangerous status ailments and punishing physical attacks that demand constant
09:15healing and careful strategy. Instead, throw an X-Potion at him and it's goodnight zombie boy.
09:20Huge bummer after that massive build-up.
09:30Necron Final Fantasy IX
09:36The final confrontation in Final Fantasy IX against the mysterious entity Necron
09:40often leaves players scratching their heads, not because the battle is especially brutal,
09:45but because it feels strangely disconnected from the story that precedes it. Mechanically,
09:49the fight isn't the most punishing encounter in the series. Necron possesses a few attacks
09:54capable of inflicting dangerous status effects, but compared to other endgame bosses,
09:58the threat level is relatively manageable for a well-prepared party. What frustrates many fans
10:03is how abruptly the fight appears. The narrative already builds towards an intense climax with Kuja,
10:09but Kuja essentially defeats the party outright. Suddenly, the game introduces Necron,
10:14an entity never previously mentioned, forcing players into a battle whose stakes are pretty
10:18vaguely explained. It's kind of like if Luke Skywalker defeated Darth Vader,
10:22and then Smarth Vader walked in and said, now you gotta fight me too!
10:33Yu Yevon Final Fantasy X
10:47Had we been ranking the worst bosses across the whole series, rather than picking one for every
10:53game, I can promise you this would have taken the top spot. After spending the entire adventure
10:57hearing about this legendary summoner, his creation of Sin, the existence of Dream Zanarkand,
11:02and his connection to Unaleska, we were ready for an epic confrontation. Instead, players are greeted
11:08by a strange floating bug. Although his presence makes sense from a lore perspective, I guess,
11:14the fight itself removes most tension. The party is effectively unable to die, turning the encounter
11:20into a slow and repetitive process of attacking a nearly harmless enemy. Please don't respond with
11:26that's the point in the comments, or it's an allegory. If that's the point, make a different point.
11:47Absolute Virtue Final Fantasy XI
11:56Few bosses in the series have generated as much frustration and controversy
11:59as Absolute Virtue in Final Fantasy XI. Introduced as one of the game's ultimate endgame
12:04challenges, the encounter quickly becomes infamous, not because it was cleverly designed,
12:09but because it was practically impossible to defeat under normal circumstances. In theory,
12:13Absolute Virtue was meant to be the pinnacle test for coordinated player groups, demanding perfect
12:18teamwork and mastery of the game's mechanics. In practice, the fight often feels less like a
12:22challenge and more like a bucket list entry. The boss possessed an enormous health pool, devastating
12:28attacks and ability to fully heal itself or wipe out entire alliances in moments. Some attempts
12:33even stretched out for nearly an entire day before the developers intervened and forcibly ended the
12:39fight. Elder Worm Final Fantasy XII
13:03The Elder Worm encounter in Final Fantasy XII is infamous largely because of where it appears in the
13:07game's progression. Players usually reach this fight immediately after battling Tiamat, a boss that is
13:13already capable of draining resources and pushing a party to its limits. Surviving that encounter often
13:18leaves players limping into the next battle, only to discover that the Elder Worm is even more
13:23punishing. With roughly one and a half times the durability of Tiamat, the fight quickly turns into
13:28our favorite battle format, Endurance. The real frustration comes from the Worm's relentless use of
13:34Spore Fall Attack. This ability blankets the entire party with a cocktail of debilitating status effects,
13:41including Poison and Confusion.
13:51Barthandolus Final Fantasy XIII
13:53And Lord Sovereign of the Cocoon Fall Sea, your kind feared that...
14:01Yay, more endurance! The Barthandolus encounter is remembered less for strategy and more for how
14:07relentlessly punishing and drawn out it feels. The fight combines two of the most frustrating boss
14:12design traits imaginable, enormous health pools and constant disruption of the player's abilities
14:16to actually deal damage. With a staggering 3.3 million HP, the battle is destined to last a long time.
14:25In his later form, Barthandolus repeatedly unleashes a laser barrage that disables both magical and physical
14:30attacks, effectively preventing the party from mounting any meaningful offense. Instead of brief windows of
14:36disruption, these attacks occur so frequently that players can feel locked into a near-permanent state
14:41of helplessness. I'm truly embarrassed to admit this, but at age 15, when I played this game,
14:47with hormones and teenage depression running through my system, I cried after being locked
14:52in that state of helplessness. Oops.
14:54As I said, I am Lord Sovereign.
15:00Cape Westwind Final Fantasy XIV
15:11Few encounters in the series have become such a running joke as the Cape Westwind trial in Final Fantasy XIV.
15:18On paper, this fight should be a dramatic turning point in the story. Players confront Rattattin
15:23Sassavina, a high-ranking Galleon commander, in what is presented as a serious showdown between the
15:30Empire and the forces opposing it. The scene is framed like a major boss encounter, complete with
15:34ominous build-up and the expectation of a tense multiplayer battle. Unfortunately, the fight itself
15:39lasts only seconds. In its original form, Rattattin barely had the health or damage output to pose any
15:45threat. A coordinated group could eliminate him before he even had the chance to perform his
15:48mechanics. The devs had to get in doing an update and make him a bit harder, because we all brutalized
15:54him.
16:00Titan Final Fantasy XV
16:02The confrontation with Titan in Final Fantasy XV looks incredible at first glance. The scale of the
16:23encounter is massive, with the towering astral looming over the battlefield as the world literally shakes
16:28beneath his movements. Visually, the moment feels like it should be one of the most exciting boss
16:32fights in the entire game. The problem is that the player rarely feels like they're actually fighting
16:37him. Instead of engaging combat mechanics, the encounter largely unfolds to a sequence of scripted
16:42moments and quick-time prompts. Much of the battle involves dodging cinematic attacks, triggering button
16:47prompts and watching elaborate cutscenes play out as the action progresses. While these moments are
16:52spectacular to watch, they leave very little room for meaningful impact. It's epic, but not really.
17:03Hey, are we all still here? Yep, still here.
17:06Titan Lost Final Fantasy XVI
17:20Back-to-back Titans
17:22Titan Lost in Final Fantasy XVI pushes spectacle to such extremes that the battle almost collapses
17:28under its own weight. The encounter is visually outrageous, featuring a colossal monster that dwarves
17:33nearly everything seen earlier in the game. The sheer scale of this creature is undeniably impressive,
17:38but that size comes with a major drawback. The pacing of the fight becomes painfully slow.
17:44Because Titan Lost is so enormous, much of the encounter is spent chasing weak points or waiting
17:49for brief attack windows to appear. Between these moments, players often feel like they're simply
17:53watching the monster move around rather than actively fighting it. The boss also absorbs an absurd
17:59amount of damage, turning the encounter into a lengthy endurance test rather than a dynamic battle.
18:04What begins as a jaw-dropping spectacle gradually drags on far longer than it should.
18:10It's the pinnacle of underwhelming, and it finishes our list. That is, until Final Fantasy XVII
18:16introduces Titan Found. Ha ha! Oh, God.
