00:09Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we are breaking down the Final Fantasy series to find potential
00:14mistakes and potential inconsistencies. These are the 10 biggest Final Fantasy plot holes.
00:20Grain of salt, I'm sure everyone has a way to explain the plot holes. I'm just out here
00:23having some fun with Final Fantasy. Some fun to see. Whatever. Let's go.
00:28Before we continue, we publish content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell

00:46When you really think about it, the whole Nibelheim Incident in Final Fantasy 7 is way messier than
00:52people remember. Though technically not a full-on plot hole, it is a plot hole that was covered with
00:56tape by the writers. Yeah, we know Sephiroth snapped and burned the town down, but the details?
01:02They're all over the place, depending on who's telling it. In Final Fantasy 7, and even Crisis
01:06Core Final Fantasy 7, you're mostly seeing events through Cloud's perspective. And that's already
01:11pretty unreliable. Sephiroth definitely killed a lot of people, but it's never clearly confirmed
01:15that everyone in Nibelheim died. What's even stranger is how Shinra handled it. They basically
01:20rebuilt the town, filled it with actors, and acted like nothing ever happened. If you want me to believe
01:25that Cloud and Tifa were the only people to escape, and that this incident was covered up this well,
01:30I will, but I'm not happy about it.
01:39Cat Sith, joined by Chance, Final Fantasy 7.
01:50Sorry for the two Final Fantasy 7 entries in a row, but this game is easy to zero in on
01:54due to its popularity.
01:55Let's talk about Cat Sith in Final Fantasy 7, because it is a bit of a weird one. He's this
02:01robotic cat
02:02being remotely controlled by Reeve, which kind of makes sense once he joins Cloud's group. But before
02:07that, yeah, it raises questions. Are we meant to believe that Cat Sith was just hanging out before
02:13accidentally stumbling upon the most useful group of travelers Reeve could have anticipated? And does
02:17this guy not have an actual job to do, rather than secretly controlling a robot on the off chance
02:22that it stumbles upon people who can lead him to eventually betraying them? Again, not a proper
02:26whole, but definitely something we're meant to just ignore. And I refuse.
02:51Leon in Final Fantasy 2 is one of those moments where the story kind of just skips a step and
02:56hopes you don't notice. He starts in your party, disappears almost immediately, and then later you're told
03:02he's working for the Emperor. That's a pretty massive jump, and the game barely fills in the gap.
03:08What actually happened in between? Did he get captured? Did he choose this? Was there some big turning point
03:13we never see? It's never really shown. Then, just as suddenly, he comes back and rejoins the group like
03:18everything's fine. No build-up, no deep explanation, just vibes.
03:30That's Earth Final Fantasy 8.
03:42Laguna's third dream in Final Fantasy 8 already feels weird enough, but then you walk into that
03:47flower restaurant and suddenly things get really, really weird. Sitting there, by the stairs,
03:52is a world map. Except it's not the game's world, it's ours. Like, actual Earth. So now you've got to
03:59ask, what's that doing there? Is this some kind of Easter egg that accidentally breaks the universe?
04:03What does it mean something way bigger? It doesn't. It's just an oversight by the
04:07developers that creates a hole I can stick my finger right into. Gross.
04:14What are Sid and Yang made of Final Fantasy 4?
04:25Final Fantasy 4 has this weird thing where survival just feels completely random. Sid and Yang get caught
04:31in a massive explosion. Like a full-on should not walk away from that kind of explosion. And somehow,
04:37they turn up later mostly fine. Meanwhile, Cecil and Rydia get hit with an earthquake and are
04:41instantly out cold. Rosa gets taken down by a fever so bad she's basically out of commission. And Edge
04:47gets wrecked by fire magic like it's game over for him. So what's the rule here? Explosions,
04:52totally survivable, but everything else seriously damaged.
05:01Let's not get physical Final Fantasy 16.
05:05From this, it's only a scratch. All right, the hole.
05:11We'll, we'll find you a healer. Here. Now you won't.
05:34Ultima in Final Fantasy 16 is supposed to be this all-knowing calculated being,
05:39which makes his decision to take a physical form feel kind of questionable the more you think about
05:43it. If he's aware of everything, then surely he understands the risks of becoming something that
05:49can actually be harmed. So why do it? Was Clive really that broken that Ultima felt safe enough
05:54to drop his guard? Or was it just arrogance kicking in? Because up until that point,
05:58he's basically untouchable, existing beyond physical limits, with no real threat to him.
06:03God, this god is so goddamn dumb. Jesus.
06:12Why aren't there more unsent Final Fantasy 10?
06:16Aren't you coming?
06:18I do not belong there.
06:23You're scared. Searching the past to find the future. This is all that is there. I need it not.
06:30The whole unsent idea in Final Fantasy 10 sounds cool at first, but the more you think about it,
06:35the more it kind of falls apart. The rule is simple. If you've got unfinished business,
06:39you can just stick around. No death, no consequence. Just keep existing. But if that's the case,
06:46why isn't everyone doing it? You're telling me that only a handful of people had something left to do?
06:52That logic opens the door way too wide. Then there's Orin, who somehow ages, keeps fighting,
06:58and resists multiple sendings like it's no big deal. The game just treats it like something he can do,
07:03and honestly, the reason comes down to sometimes unsent can do that. And by sometimes, they mean
07:08this specific time because aging will look cool on Orin.
07:12That's why he took all those pictures. To show them to you when he returned.
07:17But as he journeyed with us, and came to understand Spira and Braska's resolve, it happened gradually,
07:26but Jekt changed.
07:28Did they run Final Fantasy 9?
07:36Here's a real final season of Game of Thrones kind of plot hole. After rescuing Hilda in Final Fantasy 9,
07:42the group just casually ends up back in Alexandria. And the game never really explains how. No airship,
07:48no boat, no clear route, nothing. They're in one place, then suddenly they're somewhere completely
07:53different, like it's no big deal. And it's not like there's an obvious path, either. There aren't
07:58any gargant routes that connect Lindblom straight to Alexandria, so that option's off the table.
08:03So what did they actually do? Did they walk? Did they teleport? Did they hitch a ride on something we
08:08never see? It's one of those moments where the story just skips over the logistics entirely.
08:21Squall survived Final Fantasy 8.
08:30Squall getting impaled at the end of Disc 1 in Final Fantasy 8 is one of the most confusing moments
08:35in the entire series. He's literally skewered by a massive eye spike. Like, no ambiguity, that should
08:42be fatal. Then Disc 2 starts, and he's just fine. No explanation, no cutscene, showing recovery,
08:48nothing. The game doesn't even acknowledge how serious it was. Everyone just carries on like he took a
08:53light hit, instead of a full-on impalement. Sure, fans have come up with ideas, ED healing him,
08:59magic intervention, but that's all outside of the game itself. That's completely made up by the player
09:04to fill in the gap. It's such a bizarre jump that this is what sparked the whole squall is dead
09:10and
09:10everything after this is a dream theory. And honestly, the game doesn't do much to shut that down.
09:17Where is Cloud Standing Final Fantasy 7?
09:32Aerith's death in Final Fantasy 7 is iconic, but the more you look at it, the weirder it gets.
09:38Cloud is standing in the water holding her, but where exactly is he standing? The lake is shown as
09:43deep enough for her body to sink out of sight, yet he's just casually upright, like it's gut deep.
09:48Then there's the fact she doesn't bleed after being stabbed, which feels oddly clean for such a brutal
09:53moment. And on top of that, her body sinks, slowly, gracefully. Which sounds emotional, sure,
09:59but also that's not how bodies work. It's one of those scenes where the emotion hits hard,
10:03but the logic kind of quietly falls apart.
