00:07welcome to mojo plays and this is gonna be tough the final fantasy iceberg where i'm just gonna
00:12casually cram 16 games into one iceberg oh and spin-offs oh and films i'm a huge final fantasy
00:19fan but i had to really do my research just so i could report back to you guys so please
00:23take everything i say with a grain of salt i will definitely pronounce names wrong if you don't know
00:27the format i'm gonna be running through some interesting facts lore and tidbits on the final
00:32fantasy series and as we make our way down to the depths of this iceberg the entries are going to
00:37get more and more niche if i missed anything let me know in the comments below let's go before we
00:43continue we publish content all week long so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified of
00:49our latest videos tier one this guy are sick
00:59this entry is basically the poster child for old jrpg english in final fantasy 7 there's a line
01:05where eris or erith comments on a man who's hurt and the english version famously comes out as this
01:10guy are sick also it's not just a meme people have tracked it in transcripts and compared it to the
01:15japanese meaning which is closer to he's injured slash feeling bad
01:22suplexing the train
01:27this is the funniest kind of mechanics meat animation in final fantasy 6 the phantom ghost
01:33train is a boss and if you use the right command with sabin you can suplex it like a pro
01:37wrestling
01:38opponent the game fully commits too the whole train flips which looks completely ridiculous
01:42in the best way it became legendary because it feels like the game is accidentally letting you
01:47do something that's impossible even though it's totally intended by the battle system it's just
01:51one of those moments people remember well after they've forgotten the whole plot
01:56final fantasy 2 equals final fantasy 4 and final fantasy 3 equals final fantasy 6
02:04this one is all about the weird history of naming in north america back in the snes days the games
02:09we
02:09now call final fantasy 4 and final fantasy 6 were released as final fantasy 2 and final fantasy 3
02:15over here because actual 2 and 3 never came out in the west at the time so if you grew
02:19up on final
02:20fantasy 2 on the snes you are really playing final fantasy 4 it's confusing until you learn it was
02:25basically a continuity patch so numbers wouldn't skip revive eris revive eris or again erith is one of
02:41the biggest old school game rumors ever after her death in final fantasy 7 people shared all kinds of
02:46wild methods to bring her back weird item hunts super specific triggers impossible tasks praying to any
02:52wild that would listen what's important in the iceberg context is that this rumor culture was real and
02:57huge and major fan resources have archived the whole phenomenon as a kind of early internet folklore
03:03it's basically the perfect example of how a fan base can invent an entire secret quest
03:15phoenix down on undead
03:25this is one of those series logic things that feels like cheating the first time you learn it
03:30in a bunch of final fantasy games undead enemies treat healing really weirdly so healing magic or
03:36revival items can actually damage or outright destroy them it's not always consistent in every single
03:40entry but it's a classic trick players pass around like secret knowledge some notable bosses that could be
03:46cheesed include gira gira in final fantasy 8 and every altana in final fantasy 4
04:00final fantasy 7 date mechanics
04:07here's a classic that even to this day some fans don't know in final fantasy 7 the gold saucer date
04:13isn't just random it's based on hidden affection values that shift depending on your choices and
04:18dialogue earlier in the game so the game is quietly tracking who likes cloud most even if you never see
04:23numbers in the original i knew you could go on a date with either erith tifa barrett or even yuffie
04:27if you've recruited her imagine my surprise in the remake when i went on a date with red 13
04:38gogo is darryl
04:42this is one of those final fantasy 6 mysteries that fans just refuse to let go go go is intentionally
04:49secretive and because the game also has darryl's backstory tied to setza people tried to connect dots
04:54and claimed gogo is secretly darryl the connections are pretty loose and it's almost certainly not the
04:59case but it is a popular enough fan theory that has become a part of the community lore
05:08pixel remasters
05:13the pixel remasters are top to bottom updates of the first six games for modern systems with updated
05:20pixel art ui changes and even additional content they're official but still kind of debated people
05:25argue about the art style fonts music changes and what got kept or removed compared to older ports
05:30they're another point of discussion for the final fantasy forums
05:36the black mages
05:38the black mages were basically what if final fantasy music went hard rock slash prog
05:54they were a japanese instrumental rock band formed in 2002 by three video game composers for square
06:00and square enix when people talk about game music becoming a real music scene this is one of the
06:05easiest examples to point to they have three major albums all completely made up of final fantasy
06:11tracks turned band tracks
06:20tier 2 r equals u
06:29r equals u is shorthand for a final fantasy 8 fan theory that renoa is ultimecia the theory usually goes
06:36time compression grief and sorceress inheritance led renoa to becoming the villain in the future
06:42whether you actually buy it or not it's still one of the biggest final fantasy theory
06:46rabbit holes because it tries to reframe the whole story as a loop research papers have gone into proving
06:51it the director however straight up denied it i hate to be those research papers
07:05chocobo's paradise
07:11chocobo's paradise is basically the kind of hidden endpoint location you only find by sticking with the
07:16hot and cold digging progression learning new terrain abilities and checking weird spots on the world map
07:20final fantasy 9's chocobo questline is so long that it almost feels like a separate game and paradise
07:26is like the you really committed payoff people who love final fantasy 9 know it but casual players might
07:32never see it
07:38final fantasy 1 invisible woman
07:43this is one of those deep cut early game oddities that feels like a ghost story but is just a
07:48bit of a
07:48glitch the invisible woman of cornelia previously known as the invisible man of cornelia patriarchy
07:54is a non-playable character in the original release of final fantasy whose sprite does not appear due to
08:00a bug the invisible woman has dialogue and the player can still talk to her resulting in an awkward
08:05moment where the player seems to be talking to no one obviously this created a lore and fan theory
08:10rather than an acknowledgement of what it actually was again a big old bug
08:16it's a game
08:17final fantasy 4 dev room
08:21developer rooms are like game dev fingerprints and final fantasy 4 has a documented developers
08:27office style leftover area depending on the version or port the appeal at least for me is that dev
08:32rooms tend to break the illusion you'll find jokes credits debug tools and sometimes weird test npcs
08:38it's not usually part of the real world but it's still there which feels like the game admitting it's a
08:42game
08:47squall is dead
09:00this is probably the most famous final fantasy 8 theory after r equals you the squall is dead idea
09:06usually claims he died around the end of disk one and everything after is like a dream slash afterlife
09:11thing. People point at the sudden surreal tone shifts, weird symbolism, and two perfect character
09:16moments as evidence. It's a big enough theory that mainstream game press have covered creator
09:21responses to it. Whether it's true or not, it shows how Final Fantasy 8 basically invites
09:25theory crafting by leaving so much space for interpretation.
09:34Final Fantasy XIV's original release
09:42Final Fantasy XIV's original 1.0 release is basically the franchise's biggest failure turned
09:48into redemption arc. It launched in 2010, got hammered by criticism, and Square Enix ended up
09:53rebuilding it into a new game that replaced it, the version most people know today. The replacements
09:58involved server shutdowns, then a relaunch that basically rewrote its future. Some players,
10:03and even fans of the game, aren't aware that the game looked completely different at release. Even
10:07the lore of the current version has a world in the event, essentially wiping what came before
10:11in the lore, and in reality.
10:19Four White Mage Challenge
10:27This entry refers to one of the more famous player-driven challenges from the original Final
10:32Fantasy. The game allows you to pick classes for your four playable characters, with this
10:37challenge being to ignore fighters, thieves, black mages, red mages, and monks, and just use four
10:42white mages. It's basically because Final Fantasy 1 is flexible enough to allow it, but restrictive
10:46enough that it forces you to rethink the whole game. Damage output, item use, grinding, and boss
10:51pacing all need to be considered. Final Fantasy 9's Excalibur 2
11:04Excalibur 2 should be one of the most infamous speedrun rewards in gaming. In Final Fantasy 9,
11:11you only get it if you beat the game in under 12 hours, so it basically asks you to skip
11:16side content
11:16in a game that is otherwise begging you to explore it. That's why it's such a meme. Final Fantasy 9
11:21has
11:21cozy vibes, then this weapon shows up like, go fast, hurry up, get through it!
11:30Urguys
11:35Urguys, God Bless the Ring is basically that fighting game with Final Fantasy 7 characters in it.
11:40It's a real crossover that throws characters like Cloud and Tifa into an otherwise separate fighting
11:45game. A lot of people who love Final Fantasy 7 have heard of Urguys, but have never touched it,
11:49and it sits in that late 90s zone where Square was experimenting with genre stuff around the Final
11:54Fantasy 7 hype. Some players today still believe it was a concept, but nope, it's fully released and real.
12:02Tier 3 The World Is Square
12:07This is the most Squaresoft wink at the camera puzzle ever. In Final Fantasy 6, there's a tombstone puzzle,
12:14where you combine letter chunks, and the result is the World Is Square written backwards as the
12:18password. It's a goofy little meta joke that feels like the devs laughing at their own company name
12:22while you're trying to get a useful reward. It's classic Square, and I guess classic JRPG as well.
12:31Final Fantasy 7 equals Final Fantasy 10.
12:34What are you looking at?
12:36Fireplane data. The more I study it, the more fascinating it gets. There's limitless energy swirling around in there.
12:42This entry is about the Final Fantasy 7 and Final Fantasy 10 share a connection idea,
12:46usually routed through Final Fantasy 10 Part 2 and the character Shinra talking about harnessing life energy.
12:52The theory suggests that Final Fantasy 10 is set many centuries before Final Fantasy 7,
12:58with Shinra being one of the ancestors of the Shinra company founder,
13:02and the Farplane being just an early idea of the life stream.
13:05Apart from some easter eggs and similar themes, it's nothing more than a theory, but still a fun one.
13:21From the mouth. From the horse's mouth.
13:23It's official. It's official. 7 and 10.
13:27Laguna is Cypher's hero.
13:35Here's one of those subtle character building things in Final Fantasy 8 that's easy to miss if you don't
13:39connect the dots. Cypher's whole romantic dream of being a sorceress's knight lines up with an
13:44in-universe movie role that Laguna ends up playing, and the stances and poses that Cypher uses seem to
13:49emulate Laguna, suggesting that this film Laguna made was a big influence on Cypher.
13:59Chicken Knife
14:06In Final Fantasy 5, you have to choose between the Brave Blade and the Chicken Knife, and their power
14:11is tied to your behaviour, especially running from battles. The Chicken Knife actually has the ability
14:16to be the strongest weapon in the game, with the highest damage output when maxed out.
14:26March is the villain.
14:37This is the eternal Final Fantasy Tactics Advance argument. March is technically the hero trying
14:43to return everyone to reality, but a lot of people read him as the villain because he's destroying a
14:47world that other characters desperately want to stay in. The game itself gives you enough emotional
14:52tension that fans can argue that March has one real reason to try and return the world to normal,
14:57and it's that this isn't real, and we're avoiding the things in life that are hard to live in a
15:02fantasy. Completely ignoring the much more solid argument of who gives a flying f**k.
15:14King of Jump Rope
15:19This hidden minigame reward is bananas, but true. In Final Fantasy 9, the Jump Rope minigame is simple,
15:26you just time a button press every time the rope is low, kind of like real jump rope.
15:31Actually just like real jump rope. If you somehow hit 1000 jumps, you get the key item king of jump
15:36rope.
15:36It's mostly bragging rights, but it's why it became infamous, because it asks for near perfect rhythm,
15:42for a marathon of time, and for a pretty useless reward.
15:50Aerith's Ghost Glitch
15:56This is one of the creepiest Final Fantasy 7 weird moments, because it feels half intentional,
16:02and half broken. After Aerith's death in Final Fantasy 7, some players can see her appear briefly in the
16:07Sector 5 Church, until she eventually flickers away. Major fan documentation treats it as both an
16:13event and a glitch, with odd trigger conditions, and even ways it can be accidentally disabled.
16:21Yuffie Warping
16:26In certain PC versions of Final Fantasy 7, if you set things up correctly, you can abuse the game by
16:31taking advantage of the game's load mechanics. In a process that we have no time to explain,
16:35involving the recruitment of Yuffie, you can use this moment to skip giant portions of the game and map.
16:40This has most famously been used to skip Aerith's death, and to replay old sections multiple times.
16:52Tier 4
16:54Final Fantasy Agito
17:03There was an actual mobile title called Final Fantasy Agito, tied to the Final Fantasy Type
17:08Zero universe. The servers were shut down only a year after release, making it fade into a somewhat
17:13unknown spin-off failure. Although it's considered a failure, among fans it's considered a decent
17:18mobile game with solid mechanics including turn-based combat that feels as good as Final Fantasy combat
17:22where it should. And a day-night cycle with real in-world effects. Could have been pretty cool.
17:33Return to the World of Balance
17:42Here's some Final Fantasy 6 glitch mythology that's weirdly unknown. There are documented cases,
17:47especially in older versions and bug write-ups where you can end up back in the World of Balance
17:52from the World of Ruin via odd loss-slash-trigger conditions, like the Opera House Scaffold Rat Battle
17:57scenarios. It's the kind of thing that feels impossible, but is actually completely true.
18:15In Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Square Enix did a collab where you can acquire a playable unit inspired by
18:22Ariana Grande, specifically Dangerous Ariana. There's an official Square Enix press release
18:28about it and major fan resources catalogue the unit like any other character. It sounds fake,
18:33but it's literally official marketing from the time. Square really don't give a f**k what people
18:38think of them. And I kind of love it.
18:40So, we have three orchestrated attacks. Please check it out.
18:45100%ing Final Fantasy 10 Part 2
18:48If we all attack at once, we can do this. We need to split up.
18:52Leave the legs to us.
18:53100% completion in Final Fantasy 10 Part 2 is basically a rite of passage for people who love
19:00pain. The game tracks story completion percentage and the requirements are famously strict. Miss a
19:06tiny conversation or choose the wrong branch and you can lock yourself out of 100% in a single run.
19:11That matters because 100% is tied to seeing the perfect extra ending sequence, so completionists
19:17follow guides like they're defusing a bomb.
19:23But I like it.
19:26Final Fantasy 7 Disc 1 Skip
19:31This is modern speedrun tech that sounds like a creepypasta title.
19:35The Disc 1 Skip for Final Fantasy 7, often discussed as Ocean Fly, is a recently documented route that can
19:41take you from the early world map access to near the end of Disc 1, skipping huge chunks of the
19:47story.
19:47Articles and explanations describe it as exploiting world map collision slash geometry behaviour to
19:53cross places you shouldn't be able to cross. There's also the famous Calm Skip, used essentially
19:58just to save Aerith, as most skips in Final Fantasy 7 do.
20:09Final Fantasy 4 Perfect Game
20:14Perfect Game for Final Fantasy 4 isn't one official checklist, it's a fan-made obsession category.
20:21In practice, it usually means stuff like complete bestiary, rare drops, max stats, secret summons and
20:26side stuff, depending on the version, and generally just seeing everything. That's why you'll see
20:31people argue over what qualifies, because different ports have different extras and even different
20:35rules. It's a little pocket in the community that is super contentious.
20:47Final Fantasy 8 Demo Music
20:58There were demo versions of Final Fantasy 8 that used different music, and sometimes different mixes
21:03of certain tracks, and even had a prelude variant in the demo menu that isn't in the final release.
21:08It's an interesting look at how certain scenes evolved substantially from development to release,
21:13right up to the point demos were being given out.
21:19Reviving General Leo
21:28Everyone has heard of the never-ending adventure to bring Aerith back to life, but a lesser-known
21:32attempt at necromancy comes from Final Fantasy 6. General Leo is beloved in Final Fantasy 6. He dies,
21:40and fans immediately went, okay, what if we revive him? That spawned two streams, totally fake playground
21:46rumors, do 500 battles in Dino Forest kind of vibes, and more technical glitch routes that can make Leo
21:51appear under weird conditions via sequence breaking.
22:00Tier 5
22:03NS-GNSNCNO-N-E-N-N-E-N-B-B
22:11This acronym looks like a keyboard smash, until you learn it's a real Final Fantasy 10 challenge
22:16rule set. It is shorthand for
22:18No sphere grid, no summons, no customizing, no overdrives, no escapes, no, no encounters,
22:23and no blitzball. Basically removing almost every safety valve the game gives you. People don't just
22:28mention it as a joke. Challenge communities actually define and discuss the rules clearly. Harder to say,
22:34even harder to do.
22:40Final Fantasy 9 Perfect Game Run
22:50A perfect game run in Final Fantasy 9 is where completionists meet speedrun routing in a super
22:55cursed way. The core idea is, get every missable thing, hit all key side quests, and still meet
23:02strict timing goals if you're also chasing stuff like Excalibur 2. Some perfect game checklists are
23:07insanely detailed, covering letters, unique items, chests, and other one-time events, because Final
23:12Fantasy 9 has a lot of subtle missables. Obtaining Excalibur 2 technically happens before the ending,
23:19so you only need to get it, and then you're free to finish checking off the list without a time
23:23limit.
23:23But a huge chunk of the checklist requirements are timing specific, so they have to happen in the
23:28first 12 hours. It's planning and logistics in a big old nightmare.
23:36Osma ATB Trick
23:42Osma in Final Fantasy 9 is already scary because it's fast and unpredictable, but the ATB trick
23:47is basically learning how the game's timing actually works. The key idea people document is that
23:53Osma's turn flow can feel unfair unless you queue commands during specific windows, like while Osma is
23:58mid-animation or mid-casting, and that understanding those timing rules can finally let you get turns
24:04in a row. It's less a cheat and more ATB literacy.
24:14Mr. Monkey
24:15Mr. Monkey is one of those Final Fantasy 8 side quest details that sounds made up. In the Obel Lake
24:25quest, you basically interact with a mysterious presence, get told to find Mr. Monkey, then go to
24:29a forest area near Dollar and do a rock-throwing routine until you get a clue rock back. It's classic
24:33Final Fantasy 8. Cryptic scavenger hunt logic with almost no hand-holding. And a monkey.
24:45Eggman
24:52There's this bizarre hidden oddity in Final Fantasy 5 where under very specific conditions you can
24:56actually summon something called Eggman using the magic lamp. After summoning Chocobo 19 times,
25:02the game suddenly swaps it out. Every use after that triggers Eggman instead, at least until the
25:08lamp is recharged. But here's where it gets strange. When Eggman is summoned, nothing shows up. No sprite, no visual,
25:15just an invisible presence trying to act. It attempts to use an attack called Egg Chop,
25:19but it always fails with messages like too far away or can't reach.
25:26Final Fantasy Tactics Drag Queen
25:32This is about a specific glitched enemy or unit nicknamed in Final Fantasy Tactics the Drag Queen.
25:37The Drag Queen label is fandom slang for a time mage type glitched character, where the sprites,
25:43the portrait and the voice don't line up cleanly, like a male looking time mage that screams like a
25:48female unit, then changes presentation after recruitment. Major fan resources literally
25:53documented under that nickname, which might not be appropriate, but hey, I didn't invent it.
26:02The Avalanche Fusion
26:09Motomu Toriyama has been working as a game director for Square Enix since 1994, often being responsible
26:15for some of the wildest scenes in all Final Fantasy games, sneaking them in sometimes for devs to find.
26:21Some of his more famous over-the-top and sexual scenes in Final Fantasy VII were found in the game's
26:26data, but one scene took 27 years to find. Originally discussed by the game's director in 2005,
26:34from an in-game mechanic where Cloud would be the central model and his party would emerge from him
26:39during cutscenes, and merge back into him when he needed to control the action. It's just a mechanic
26:43no player would ever think twice about. Toriyama tried to parody this in an unused scene where the
26:48Avalanche trio of Jesse Biggs and Wedge would say let's fuse two and run into each other with a bang.
26:54The actual scene was found in the game's data and restored in 2024.
