00:00Hello, welcome to the CV's Flight Channel.
00:30He can win on any given Saturday, and he has the potential to get up there in between
00:35Eli Tomac and Hunter Lawrence and wreak havoc in this title.
00:38So good to have the four back.
00:40And what we touched on in the open, Eli Tomac got together with Justin Cooper in the heat
00:45race last week, was able to pull out a pretty clutch start up towards the front of the race,
00:51but just didn't, he just didn't have his best day.
00:54And Eli's great at not pushing when he doesn't have it.
00:58He'll take the points and move on, but I think it was a big mental win for Hunter Lawrence.
01:04He's won three out of four, putting 40 seconds in the Eli Tomac, even though he knows it was
01:09an off day and Eli wasn't riding his best.
01:12I think it's very important for Eli Tomac to remind Hunter Lawrence of who he is, the legend
01:19he is.
01:20And this is a perfect track for Eli to do that.
01:23A little bit faster, a lot of traction.
01:25We know he excels in these conditions and Ken Rockson, he's had this narrative for so long
01:33now towards the end of the season, he drops off.
01:36And even at the end of races, he's dealt with injuries and sickness that he hasn't always
01:41been the strongest guy at the end of the race.
01:44But I believe he's starting to change that narrative.
01:47One of the best rides I've seen all season from him last weekend in Birmingham, 15th to
01:53second, made some inroads on Hunter Lawrence, wasn't able to get too close.
01:58Hunter was riding amazing.
01:59But Ken Rockson, he's starting to change the narrative that he drops off late in the year.
02:04He absolutely has the speed to go out here and win tonight.
02:08Well, and you mentioned that narrative.
02:10He's not happy with that narrative because you think about just a couple of years ago,
02:14he has a bike malfunction, crashes in the whoops, gets injured.
02:16And last year, he has an ankle injury, a foot injury.
02:20So for good reason, he was dropping off towards the end of the season.
02:23He was riding injured as we get this 450 Group A qualifier number one fueled by Kroger underway.
02:29And you mentioned it, AC.
02:30It's so good to see Chase Sexton back on track.
02:33He goes down the left side of the whoops.
02:36And we were watching him yesterday.
02:37I mean, look, I feel like we've watched enough racers go around a supercross track where
02:43we can spot when a guy feels good and does not feel good on his motorcycle.
02:47He looked incredible yesterday.
02:48I know it's just press, but he was having fun.
02:50He was throwing whips.
02:51He looked great on that Monster Energy Kawasaki.
02:53Yeah, and before the last few races, before he got hurt, he just, he didn't look like himself.
02:59He looked like he was waiting for something to happen.
03:01He looked very, looked like the middle of his corner specifically where he is normally so good.
03:08There was a lot of hesitation in the middle.
03:09Looked like he didn't trust the front of the bike too much.
03:12But I think, I think they've made inroads with that bike.
03:15And I think this track specifically having a little bit more traction, having a good flow
03:20to it, whatever it is, it's agreeing with Chase Sexton right now as he starts his first
03:24fast lap.
03:25All right, let's see what Chase Sexton can throw down.
03:28He's working the left side of those whoops.
03:29And I like this because then it opens up the next right-hand turn.
03:33A lot of different option sections out here.
03:35This section right here, the right side of it starts big.
03:38The left side starts small and alternates all the way through.
03:41Cole Davies was doing this line right here.
03:43It triples onto the table, top and off.
03:45And it's a little give and take after the finish line there.
03:47Before the whoops, you saw Chase cut down, make the corner a little shorter and hit the
03:51left side of the whoops.
03:52It does open up the radius from the next turn.
03:55But I think going around the outside of the turn right now, because the whoops are a little
03:59bit more spaced out, a little bit bigger, you're going to be able to carry a lot more speed
04:03if you go all the way around the top of the turn.
04:05So I would expect him to experiment with that line a little bit.
04:08Let's see what this time is right here as Chase Sexton's throwing down a fast one.
04:12Big triple leg out into that 90-degree turn.
04:16The number four goes to second behind Ken Rocks with a 52.7 as Kenny threw down a 52.6.
04:23So it's tight at the top.
04:24And I think Chase, that lap lost a little bit in the whoops.
04:27He cut down, didn't quite have the speed going in, and you saw him kind of lose speed
04:33throughout the course of the whoops section.
04:35So I think he's got to tighten up that area a little bit, but looks good so far.
04:40Malcolm Stewart at Rockstar Energy.
04:42Husqvarna factory racing machine.
04:43Solid ride one week ago in Birmingham.
04:45And we're starting to see the true Malcolm, the speed that the 27 has.
04:49It's starting to come back after injury to start the season.
04:52And it was the season best.
04:53Yeah, season best top five for Malcolm last week.
04:56And it's a tough thing to do.
04:58You get hurt at the first race.
04:59You put in so much time in the offseason trying to get better.
05:02And there's a lot of buzz around Malcolm coming into the year.
05:06Had dominated a couple offseason races and looked so good doing it.
05:12But sometimes you end up kind of overcompensating for your injury.
05:17And then you get healthy.
05:18And you've got to learn how to ride like yourself again.
05:20And we've seen that with Malcolm slowly starting to build up.
05:23He's another guy that I wouldn't count out to be in podium contention in this last stretch of races.
05:31It's number three, Eli Tomac.
05:33Nine points down to the championship points leader, Hunter Lawrence, in this title.
05:39Round 11 here in Detroit.
05:41And how about Joey Savace?
05:42A couple top fives this season and really the resurgence in this 450 class.
05:47We talk about him in the 250s all the time.
05:49Look, he's won races.
05:50He's fought for championship battles all the way down to the very last round.
05:54Now in the 450 class, he's yet to really blossom into a championship guy.
05:58But he's getting closer and closer and closer to get that elusive 450 podium.
06:02Good to see the 17 back.
06:04I'm very happy to have Joey back.
06:06This has been a career year all the way around.
06:08Especially considering the field, the lineup at Anaheim 1.
06:13And those first four or five races when everyone was healthy, Joey was in that 5 to 10 spot just
06:19slowly building.
06:20And I really think there's more there with Joey.
06:24We know how much, how good of a 250 career he had, was in championship contention, won a lot of
06:29races, is a great starter.
06:31I do think that he can get on the podium before the season is done.
06:34I know he's riding a little bit hurt right now, so if he can just get through this one, be
06:39in that 5 to 10 range and build,
06:41I do think he has a chance at a podium sometime in this last stretch here.
06:45Even after missing a round, still sixth in the championship.
06:48This man right here, Hunter Lawrence, that Honda HRC progressive ride.
06:53Wow, he has been great as of late.
06:55Three of the last four race wins as he carries a lot of speed into those whoops.
06:59He's working the left side as Chase Sexton was as well.
07:03But, you know, you hit on it great.
07:04His stoic attitude, very, very calm demeanor, that really is a great asset to the 96.
07:11It is, and I just love the way he's always accountable for himself.
07:16And just hearing some things behind the scenes, he didn't have the bike set up perfect at Anaheim 1.
07:23A lot of time has been put into getting him more comfortable on the bike, but you never hear him
07:29talking.
07:29You never hear him throwing the team under the bus or making excuses.
07:34And I think his unemotional approach, like I said in the open, it just allows him to be completely honest
07:41with himself about where he's at.
07:43And he clearly, his program, as you see him, just absolutely crushed the flat turn before the finish line.
07:48And his attitude, his program, everything all the way around is so dialed, so streamlined.
07:55There's no wasted energy.
07:57And I'm going to be honest, JB, I know you did.
08:00I did not think that his ceiling was this high.
08:03I mean, he just surprises me week after week, getting better and better.
08:07And he's, I mean, look at the red plate on his bike.
08:09He's the best in the world right now.
08:11Absolutely, eight fastest so far.
08:13But he did have some struggles to start this qualifying session.
08:16Let's take a look.
08:17He comes out, goes on, off.
08:20Then he goes triple into this turn, overjumps it a little bit, and over the Burmese goes.
08:24Missed the back break.
08:25Just landed with his foot on the peg there.
08:28Didn't get into the back break in time, and that's all she wrote.
08:30Luckily, what didn't look like too hard of a hit, but any time you have a big one like that
08:35at the start of qualifying,
08:36you go out there with the plan, and then you go and crash, and your plan, you've got to go
08:42to plan B.
08:43But Hunter, of course, like we talk about, unemotional.
08:46Probably took him a couple laps to put that out of his mind.
08:48But so far, eighth in this session.
08:51Not his best, but he's also not a guy that we've seen at the top of the board a lot
08:55in qualifying.
08:56Absolutely.
08:57The 94, Ken Rockson on top, 51.8.
09:00Chase Sexton, a 51.8 as well.
09:03And Justin Cooper, third.
09:04Justin Cooper's teammate, Cooper Webb, on screen right now, ninth overall with a 53.4.
09:12Cooper Webb won here a year ago, and this dirt really suits Coop as well.
09:16It did, and I was not the best result for Coop, and Birmingham had a crash, wasn't near the front
09:21of the field.
09:22But I was very impressed, very impressed with his whoop speed at Birmingham, even in practice.
09:27I don't think I've ever seen him consistently skim whoops that good.
09:31And just watching him ride right now, watching him ride last week, even though he's a very big long shot
09:37for this championship,
09:39you can tell he's still motivated to do his best and to get back on top.
09:42So, Coop, the three-time champ, even though he's not in it, to see the motivation, to see the conviction.
09:49I say that all the time, but see what he's doing right now, even being out of the championship.
09:54I love to see the fight.
09:5614 of Dylan Frandis on that Troy Lee Designs Red Bull Ducati ride.
10:00And Haley, great to see Dylan back on track.
10:03Yes, JB, that is a rider you see on your screen right now who is really happy to be back.
10:08I had a moment to just catch up with him at track walk today, and he is all smiles.
10:12And to take us back a few weeks, it wasn't a broken bone or ligament damage.
10:15It was just a thumb injury.
10:18And really, the last few weeks, it's just been getting that swelling down.
10:21So, he's been back on the bike for a week, put in a boot camp, as he described it, over
10:25the last seven days.
10:26That was a lot to cram into one week.
10:28So, Dylan Frandis, he's excited to be back, and we're happy to have him back because where he left off
10:32in Daytona,
10:33he showed a lot of speed, if you guys can recall, in qualifying.
10:37Absolutely.
10:38Thank you, Haley.
10:38Yes, remember, AC in Daytona, he was top three in qualifying, looked incredible, looked like Dylan Frandis.
10:44The championship-winning Dylan Frandis that we have seen in years past.
10:49Good to see Dylan back on track.
10:5112th right now, 53.8.
10:53Ken Rockson's still on top of that, 51.8.
10:56And interesting, Ken has not topped a session since Indy 2025.
11:00You think about how much speed the 94 has.
11:03It's been that long since he's qualified fastest in a single session.
11:06And he's been way, way better in qualifying this year, and we've talked about it some,
11:11but just how his mentality has matured.
11:14I think in the past, he's been trying to avoid stress throughout the day.
11:19As a racer, sometimes these days feel so long before you actually get to the points-paying race in the
11:23main event.
11:25But I think Ken's more relaxed attitude is allowing him to be a little bit faster,
11:31have a little more intensity in qualifying.
11:33But you see Cooper Webb finishing up a fast lap here.
11:35He's down in 10th.
11:36You know he wants to improve that.
11:38Let's see if Coop can better that 10th with a 53.3.
11:42As Chase Sexton comes across the finish as well, right behind him.
11:46Chase a 51.8.
11:47That's a great way to come back for the four, Chase Sexton.
11:50Oh, there's no doubt about it.
11:51And it's looking like, it's soon, it's only the first qualifier,
11:56but it's looking like the old Chase Sexton is here to play.
11:59Once again, the first time since Indy 2025 that Ken Rockson has topped a qualifying session.
12:05He did just that.
12:06Detroit Q1 here at round 11.
12:0951.8.
12:10Chase Sexton second.
12:11Justin Cooper third.
12:13And we have a Justin Hill siding AC in fourth.
12:15Oh, Justin Hill.
12:16We know he has speed to burn on the days he's feeling it.
12:19He can get up there and battle with the best in the world.
12:21Good to see Justin Hill.
12:23P4.
12:23Absolutely.
12:24Haley's going to catch up with that man, the 94, Ken Rockson, when we come back.
13:01Thank you.
13:01Thank you.
13:04Thank you.
13:14Merci.
13:42Merci.
14:22Merci.
14:35Back to Race Day Live presented by Rocky Mountain ATVMC.com.
14:40And it is the number 94 of Ken Rockson.
14:42Ken, to everyone who's paying attention, this is not a surprise here to have you topping this session, but it
14:46has been since Indy 2025.
14:48What is working this morning?
14:50Um, I don't know.
14:51I'm just having a good time.
14:52The track's pretty sweet.
14:53Um, you know, it has that tack, but it's very hard pack underneath it.
14:57It's completely different than, uh, Indianapolis for some, for some reason.
15:01Um, having said that, yeah, I'm just having a good time out there.
15:03Honestly, I'm focusing on myself.
15:05Uh, I felt one with the track and with my motorcycle and, um, yeah.
15:09Surprise, surprise.
15:10Uh, qualifying win number one, I guess, for me, for a long time.
15:14Great job, Ken.
15:15We'll see you in the second session.
15:16The conditions favor him and it's mutual.
15:19Love to see Ken's attitude.
15:21Just having some fun, not surprised about anything, feeling good with the track.
