Crash-for-cash couple strikes again; over 100 fake accident cases linked

A couple known for staging road accidents in the Klang Valley has resurfaced in Negri Sembilan, this time targeting Seremban car rental operators.  At a press conference organised by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong, rental company owners Mohd Iqbal and Fitri Sinan said the pair rented cars and later abandoned them badly damaged.  Chong said the duo may be linked to over 100 cases and are believed to be in Melaka, urging police and the Road Transport Department to act swiftly as they pose a danger to motorists. 00:14This time, their alleged victims are two car rental operators in Seremban

00:18who said the pair rented vehicles from them

00:20and used the cars to carry out similar scams since early November.

00:25Both vehicles were later found badly damaged and abandoned.

00:28One of the owners, who wished to be known only as Muhammad Iqbal,

00:33said the couple rented a car from him between October 4th and 18th.

00:37When they failed to make payments for two days,

00:40he tried calling them but could not reach either of them.

00:43The 40-year-old said he managed to track down the car

00:46but was shocked to find it extensively damaged.

00:58Another rental operator, Fitri Sinan, said he also suffered losses

01:06after renting a car to the same couple for five days in September.

01:39Both owners lodged police reports and took their case

01:42to MCA Public Services and Complaints Department Head,

01:45Datuk Sri Michael Chong, on Monday.

01:48Chong said he learnt the couple had lodged more than 100 police reports

01:52related to accidents they allegedly staged over recent months.

01:56Now they're going to Melaka.

01:57Step by step, they're going to use this trick motor separately,

02:02borrow the car, rent the car.

02:05After renting the car, they go and bank people

02:07and store people, this couple.

02:11Very particular, very special case.

02:14He said many victims suffered financial losses

02:16either by paying the couple on the spot

02:19or losing their no-claim discount, NCD,

02:22after making insurance claims.

02:24Chong said he is compiling all related reports

02:27and hopes to meet federal police to push for swift action.

02:35because this is a con job.

02:42innocent life and threatening people.

03:02Chong first highlighted the issue in May

03:04after a dozen motorists came forward

03:06claiming the man, who typically drove,

03:09would intentionally collide with their vehicles

03:11and demand compensation on the spot.

03:14He often asked for large sums

03:16but would settle for less after negotiations.
